Jadwa

The queen sent for me the next day and gave me some herbs for Sultan

"Jadwa I'm trusting you with this please dont let him see it" she pleaded and i just nodded my head

"In shaa Allah your majesty" I answered holding the small bag tightly

"A little will be enough in the food so it wont be obvious kin san shi he gets irritated easily"

She finished telling me all i need to know then i left,

Didi came to the house immediately i went back and I didn't know when I hugged her

"Yar Albarka kwana 2" she said holding my hands

"I heard Yarima is sick thats why i came to see him" she said sitting down

"He's upstairs why don't we go there?" I asked her but she frowned a little

"I really don't like stairs" she confessed

"I'll help you up" i said holding her hands leading her to his room

We met him laying down with a book on his hand so i left then there and went back down,

About an hour later Didi came down and was about to leave,

"Jadwa follow me i have something you're bringing back for Yarima" she called and I hurried and followed her,

Guards were following both in front and behind us

"I decided to stroll a bit my legs are getting weak" she said and I couldn't help but smile because she is old i know but she looks stronger than women of her age

We got there and she handed me a small bag but i have no idea what was inside so I collected it

"Should they escort you?" She asked pointing at the guards but i said no and headed back

"Here is the message Didi asked me to bring for you" i said to him,

He was laying down but he kept the book aside and he's on his phone now

I noticed he's a reader too because most of the time when he's doing nothing you see him with a book on his hands,

I remembered the last time he was sick and he asked me to read a book for him, the book was I interesting but I didn't get to finish it because he never asked me to read it for him again,

"Thank you" he said pointing at his drawer for me to keep it there

"Can you help me read this book before you go?" He asked and I gently came back and sat on the carpet,

he was laying with his tummy on his head using his elbows to support himself, so he was looking at me waiting for me to start so I opened the page he stopped and started reading,

About 30 minutes later he fell asleep or so I thought because immediately I stopped reading and got up to leave his voice brought me back "i am not sleeping"

So i came back and continued reading till i got tired and kept quiet

"I'm hungry" he said still with his eyes closed

"What would you like to eat your highness?" I asked and he opened his eyes to look at me

"Pancakes and milk" he said so I gently dropped the book and went to the kitchen

I poured a little bit of the herbs the queen gave me into the pancake mix and fried it pouring the milk from the fridge for him but when i took it he asked for warm milk instead,

He finished and made me continue reading for him and so i did,

I didn't even notice it was late till I checked the time and gasped immediately

I didn't know how to tell him that it's getting late and i had to leave

"Your highness!" I called but he didn't answer

"Your highness!" I called again

"Mmmm" he said not wanting to look at my direction

"It's getting late and i.... i wass asked not to reach 9 here" i said stammering

"Says who?" He asked

"W.....when i....i f.....ff...first c.....c...came ma......m....mami said that" I replied

Then He turned to look at me,

"Jadwa" he called which is a normal thing because he stopped calling me Jalila

"Na'am" I replied

"You can leave" he said in a very calm voice

"Thank You" i then dropped the book beside him and left

Already the gates were closed but the guards know me now so that wasn't a problem,

I was in the kitchen mixing the masa i just blended when Mami came in,

"Good afternoon Mami" I greeted kneeling down

"Tashi tashi 'yar nan, ya aiki?" She asked sitting on the kitchen island

"Lafiya kalau" I replied covering the bowl so that the masa will rise

"Sit" she ordered directing me to the chair next to herh

I sat down quietly waiting for her to talk

"How's sultan's health?"

"Alhamdulillah he's getting better" I replied her

"I came to talk to you personally" she said making my heart skip a bit

"Hope all is well?" I asked sounding so concerned

"Lafiya kalau relax, its just about your work here and all" she said and I opened my eyes widely not understanding what she's saying

"You are supposed to be of help to Sultan whenever and whatever" she started

"So the queen suggested that since is he is sick and will be needing surveillance 24/7, you should leave the maids quarters and come back here in the maids room" she said

I didn't know what to say to her so i nodded

"Things changes Jadwa" she said getting up to leave

"I expect you to come back here by tomorrow"

Immediately she left i went to meet Amla to tell her what is up

"Nima i was surprised when i saw you in the maids quarters the first time" she confessed

"Why?" I asked and she just smiled and explained to me that Sultan's personal maids have a room in his chambers and they don't stay in the maids quarters

"You were the first to stay in the maids quarters" she added and I sadly nodded

"C'mon Jad, we'll still be seeing each other" she said wiping the tears that managed to escape from my eyes,

So that day I packed to the room there in his chamber and to be honest the room wasn't that bad,

He asked me to read for him that day till he fell asleep and since then it became a daily routine,

He finish eating dinner and lay to sleep and i read for him till he falls asleep before I slowly sneak out,

I was reading for him on a Friday night but his mind wasn't here at all,

He was laying down flat with his head up and his eyes closed I taught he was sleeping but when I looked clearly his forehead was sweating so bad, moments later he started shivering,

"Your highness!" I called but there was no reply,

I didn't know what to do or who to call because it was so late but by the looks of things its like he was having high fever and I remembered what I usually do for my dad when he was having fever,

I hurried and dropped the book then i got a mini towel from his collection of towels and poured cold water on it then I squeezed the water out but still making sure the towel was somehow cold,

I rushed and came back with the towel folding it into two before placing it on his forehead gently,

I waited for some time before I removed the towel and rinsed it with cold water then I brought it back and placed it on his forehead again,

I was about to remove my hand when I felt his hands on mine so i was forced to keep my hands on his forehead,

I knew he was sick and didn't know what was going on and i was so afraid to make any movement that will wake him up so I stayed there for as long as i can till he removed his hand and I hurried and left the room panting, "what is wrong with you Jadwa??"
