I had braced myself for vomitting blood or screaming and convulsing.
Something dramatic seen in movies and horror films, but instead my eyes instantly latched onto a still figure at the other side of the room, beneath a white sheet.
Okay so maybe in my head I should've described it differently, since a body under a white sheet still sounds like a dead body and soemthing out of a horror film, but overall, this wasn't as bad as it could've been.
Stepping into Malia's room was like stepping into a tub of vanilla ice cream, the theme of white and different shades of creme colors enveloping everything in the room. Floor to ceiling length windows, which I've found to be a common architecutral design on this island, take up one of the walls of the room, although white, thick curtains are drawn over most of them.
It's quiet as we all enter, taking in the room along with Malia's still form on the bed inf ront of us.
"She's not dead, is she?" Max breaks the silence, right before Becky smacks him over the head.
"Forutnately, no." Iris says with a light chuckle, before walking towrds the bed. "It's jsut one of her sleeping habits."
Iris leans over and grabs a corner of the sheet, carefully withdrawing it to releive Malia's sleeping face. I walk over beside Iris to stare down at the sleeping Malia, who looks extremely elegant even when sleeping, pale, and gaunt. The beauty standards this woman sets almost make me want to cry sometimes.
"Malia." Iris whispers a little loudly, touching her lightly on the shoulder.
No reaction.
"Malia." Iris tries again, a little louder.
"What if she's dead-" Max is cut off by yet again another smack, although this one on his arm.
"Don't finish that question." Becky glares at him.
I look away from Malia's sleeping face to look back at Becky and Max, my eyebrows scrucnhed together.
"She won't blast light beams at us or anything for waking her up from her sleep...will she?" I ask, the question seeming like a legitimate one to ask at the time.
"I can assure you, I'm not that aggravated by a wake up call."
"Oh okay phew". I say, looking back at Malia where the voice that answered the question was oddly coming from, only to see Malia's eyes wide open as if she had never been sleeping, cuasing me to jump in fright.
"Good morning, Aunt Malia." Iris says gently, helping her to sit up and propping pillows up behind her. "Are you feeling any better?"
"A tiny bit." Malia concedes, although by her weak and slow movements she doesn't seem to have much strength in her. "Before that though I would like to know why our guests are in my chambers? Is there an emergency?"
"Yes and no." Iris states while biting her bottom lip. "Let me get your medication ready while they explain." She walks off to a cart sitting near the door where I'm assuming the medication is, and Becky, Max, and I all share a look.
"I can explain."Becky finally volunteers herself with a sigh, and she starts the story, starting off with describing the run in I had with the mysterious figure who had Cato's eyes and how they tried to basically get rid of me, and then on to the issues we're facing right now with the island being threaten by Dalton.
When Malia hears Dalton's name for the first time her eyes widen, and I could swear fear flashed through them for a split second, but then she's back to being calm and collected right away.
Becky egtting to the end of the logn expkanation about how we theorize that Uncle Andre may be the mastermind behind this whole plot, when Iris comes forward witha tiny cup of what seems to be the medecine adn then another cup of tea.
"Here you are, Aunt Malia." Iris says, passing both fo them carefully to her.
"Thank you, Iris." Malia gratefully accepts, before downing the tiny cup and taking a few sips of tea. "Tea is my favorite beverage." She states upon my questioning gaze. "It helps me down any medecine, no matter how nasty it is. Now, back to what you were saying," She says, turning to Becky.
"That about sums it all up, once again we don't have any conclusive evidence as of yet of the perpretator, but we're dealing with two very serious situation right now, and thought it would be best to let you as High Commander know."
There's a beat of silence, in which Malia contemplates.
"I would like to speak with my niece for a few minutes. You may remain in the room and look around at whatever you'd liek while you wait."
Max, Becky, and I take that as our que to give them some spcae, and without hestitation I turn and start walking to the opposite side of the room which holds a cream-colored booksheld with cream-colored books.
"Are you alright?" I hear Malia ask softly to Iris though before I get outside of hearing distance, and feel a little pang of sympathy and sadness for Iris.
Absentmindely, I browse over the collection of books in front of me, all of them looking the same, when one catches my eye. This one is different from the rest, as it has thin gold script wirrten across it's spine.
Descendants of the Lightling High Commander, it says.
I flip it open out of curiosity, expecting to see pages of numerous family trees dating back to the first Lightling High Commander, but instead I'm confronted with paragrapghs of writing.
The mighty High Commander of the Lightlings holds power over all Lightlings, and therefore also sustains the same power as their subjects, however along with the power to shapeshift into any creature upon will, heal, and manipulate light, the High Commander also holds another power, special to them. Not only may they manipulate their bodies into different creatures, but also different people, making changing simple features such as their hair or eye color very trivial tasks. Recently studies have shown though that this special power may not only reside in the Lightling High Commander, but also in the blood descendants of the High Com-
"Whatcha readin'?"
I jump, jerking my head to the side and bumping foreheads with Max who was looking over my shoulder.
"Ouch." I grit, thankful it didn't hurt too bad as Max takes a few steps back, looking apologetic.
I raise the book, about to question Max on it's contents and if Max knew himself that Malia was able to change specific features along with being able to morph her entire body.
"Ashley." Malia suddenly calls for me, and I look over to see her beckoning to me.
I set the book down, quickly walking to her bedside.
"I sincerely apologize that you were in danger while residing in my Villa." Malia begins, and I opne my mouth to reassure her that I'm fine, but she continues. "I can't even begin to imagine being betrayed by my own nephew and brother, but if what you're saying is true then a proper investigation needs to be held. I'm afraid if the situation concerning Dalton gets any worse however, the investigation will have to be put on hold."
"But that puts you in danger!" Iris interrupts, eyebrows scrucnhed with worry as she looks at Malia.
Malia looks at Iris sternly yet softly. "I may not be in the ebst shape of my life at the moment, but don't forget that I am the Lightling High Commander for a reason. I can handle myself. What needs to be prioritized is Ashley's safety and the Darkling High Commander's capture so that we may focus on sealing Dalton away again."
"Ha ha about that..." I mutter, rubbing the back of my neck with my hand. "Before coming here, I paid a trip to Core, and discovered that the only way to sela Dalton away again is if we find your perpretator, apprehend them, and get your strength back."
Malia looks down, thinking, before heaving a sigh. Then she whistles, the tune not very loud yet still seeming to carry far, and the doors to her room open, a Lightling guard entering and saluting.
"I orer the capture and arrest of Cato and General Andre, effective immediately. If they resist....proceed with the arrest by any means deemed necessary."
Iris pales and another pang of sympathy for her hits me at full force as I watch the guard salute and leave, probably to gather more guards and begin the search and arrest for Cato and General Andre.
"I really hope..." Malia says softly, causing me to look back on her. "That this is a misunderstanding, and the real cause of my illness is soon discovered so the island can rest in peace."
I hope so too, I want to say, but hold it in sicne the statement seemed a bit rheotorical.
"We can't sit around doing nothing about the situation with Lager while the investigation on General Andre and Cato is taking place though." Becky suddenly speaks up.
"I agree" I nod at her before turning back to Malia.
"It's possible he may be coming here soon in order to find me, and if he arrives here when we're unprepared it may result in innocents uneccessarily injured. Is there any way you're also able to contain him if he does show up?" I question Malia.
"Darkling High Commander vs. Lightling High Commander, now that is a showdown I wanna see!" Max suddenly jumps into the conversation, looking hyped up by the way he's boucning on his toes.
"I'll make the popcorn." A dark figure leaning up against the wall next to one of the floor to ceiling length windows says.
"Yuck, we should have fruit instead." Becky says, prtending to barf.
"It's not going to be some kind of spectacle," I cut in, shaking my head at Becky, "So we won't be needing any popcorn, thank you." I say to the dark figure before turning back to Malia.
Wait a second.
I whirl back around to see the dark figure materialize starting from the bottom and revealing black boots, just as black pants, then traveling up to reveal a black tunic, a black cloak over the shoulders, and fianlly a familiar face with hair the color of midnight.
"This almost look like a party, I'm hurt that I wasn't invited." He says in a smooth tone, and I try and make out what color his eyes are, although it's ahrd to tell if they're orange or gold from all the way across the room.
"Lager?" I question, hoping with all my might I'm actually right for once in my life.
"Errrr," He says, making a buzzer noise that signals I'm incorrect.
"......End?" I try again, flinching.
"Errrrrrrrr." He says again, and I can almsot feel my blood run cold as a wicked smirk decorates his face.
There's movement beside me, and I don't take my eyes off Lager as Malia smoothly stsnds up, grasping onto Iris's arm for stability and support.
Malia takes a few steps forward until she's standing in front of me, blocking me from his direct line of sight.
"Dalton." Malia states coldly, and it's almost as if all the air in the entire room is sucked out as silecne permeates.
"Ding, Ding, Ding." Lager's mouth says, the vicious smirk turning into an even more vicious grin.
Uh oh.
Dear readers,
Dangeroustoken looks at her computer, then at the elephant next to her, to which a piece of paper is taped that says "eight months since the last update".
She sighs, smacking her head agaisnt the table, before eharing an obnoxious cough. She looks up and sees the entire cast of Human One standing in front of the table, glaring daggers down at her, especially Sylvia, who was the one obnoxiously coughing.
"Hey guys...." Dangeroustoken trails off, giving a very unenthusiastic laugh.
"So we're not even going to address the elephant in the room?" Lager questions, raising an eyebrow and watching as Max starts feeding the elephant some fruit.
"Wow! Was that elephant always there? I didn't even notice it was so....un-noticeable." Dangeroustoken laughs again and then winces.
"As un-noticeable as us?" Becky snaps, looking anything but happy. "You abandoned us for eight months. And not just us, but all the readers too. You're as horrible as a Lyncher."
Dangerosutoken wicnes again, before sighing. "Yeah, I am. I would apologize again, but I don't think any amount of apologizing is going to make me or my readers feel any better about this. I'm so sorry for abandoning you guys. I really hope you all don't resent me for this."
The cast stays quiet, before Ashley breaks.
"We don't ahte you, we can't speak fro your readers, but you're our creatpr and all so we're kind of obligated to not hate you."
"Was that supposed to make her feel better?" Becky asks from her spot next to Max, petting the elephant with one hand while the other rests on her hip.
"Kind of?" Ashley says.
"Well the main point is you're back now, and you're going to finsih Human One this Summer, right?" Zero speaks up from his position to the left of Ashley, Aella standing silently next to him.
Dangeroustoken salutes. "Yes I will be updating every week this Summer until the book is completed. If anything coems up I may take a week off but that is highly unlikely and will be no longer than a week off."
"Good." The whole cast breathes a sigh of releif, before Zero picks up again.
"So on that note...we're enaring the end so.....am i going to make another appearance soon? I think a lot of your readers want to know this."
Aella jabs him in the stomach with an elbow, and he scowls glaring at her, but she ignores him while saying "Dangeroustoken doesn't condone spoilers."
"True, Aella, but...." Dangeroustoken says, "I'll let you guys know this at least since I've made you wait abotu eight full months for this update. Yes, Zero will be appearing soon, but that's all I'm going to say."
"Yes!" Zero clenches his hands into fists, smiling.
"Anyway," Dangeroustoken says, turning to the wall which has a piece of paper taped to it saying 'fourth wall'. "I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! It is unedited, and I am so so so so so sorry for leaving you all hanging for nearly a year (wow!) and I hope you can all find it in your hearts to forgive me. I also hope you enjoyed this little tidbit at the end, I thought it would be enjoyed better than my usual authors note. Thank you for reading and all the support! I love you all so much! Make sure to vote, comment, and pet an elephant if you ever get the chance to (Safely of course, and with profesional supervision) because they're amazing creatures and also deserve love."
Dangeroustoken is suddenly blinded by a flash and looks over to see Max has transformed into a blue elephant, apparently jealous of the way Becky was petting the other elephant by the way the rest of the cast is standing in between him and the normal elephant, trying to keep Max calm.
"That's all for today! See you all next update! Dangerosutoken out!"
