You slowed down as you made your way into the forest. You scanned the trees for any signs that Reed was there.
Come on (Y/n)...Think! Reed needs you!
You slowed to a stop and looked around. It didn't make sense for Reed to come the way you had since he was near the opposite end of the castle. You turned to your left and ran that way.
You cut through the village, dodging stands and people who were still wandering around.
Reed...I'll find you.
You could see the forest on the other side of the village, and you pushed yourself to make it. Guards were everywhere in the village and the sooner you left, the better.
You crashed through the trees and stopped for a moment to catch your breath. Where was the most probable place that Reed would be...
You glanced around before you started heading back in the direction of the palace. You'd run into him this way...hopefully. Walking through the forest, you glanced around for any sign of the blonde boy.
"Reed?" You called out as you wound around the trees and ducked under low branches.
Your ears picked up the sound of hooves and you darted behind a tree. Looking around wildly, you grabbed a branch and hoisted yourself up. You peered around to try to see who it was, but the leaves blocked your view.
You held your breath as you saw them pass underneath you and your heart sped up. Without thinking, you hopped to the ground next to them.
"Reed!" You yelled as you tried to regain your balance.
He turned around, his eyes wide, "(Y/n)?! What are you doing over here!?"
You gave a small smile, "I'll tell you later. I'm just really glad your safe."
He jumped off the horse and came towards you, "What do you mean? I've been fine the entire time."
You pulled him into a hug, "I just...had a hunch that something bad might've happened. I'm glad I was wrong." You glanced down to see a sword hanging at his side. "Where did you get that?"
He followed your gaze and smiled sheepishly, "A guard kind of saw me. I told him I was out looking for you, but that I needed a weapon in case you tried to fight back. He gave me it." His eyes shone with pride.
You sighed, "I thought you'd ran into real trouble for a second."
He wrapped his arms around you, "You worry too much. The plan worked though! We're free! We're-"
A twig snapped and both of you turned around, your eyes widening.
"You're...? Please finish your sentence." Connor growled as he looked at the two of you angrily.
You felt Reed grab your hand, but you didn't dare look away from the twins.
Aiden leaned forward, smirking, "Why, I'd say they're shocked to see us." He tilted his head, "I guess your plan didn't work as much as you'd thought."
You pulled Reed behind you, "Go away."
Connor raised his eyebrows, "That's rather rude dear. You just ran away and made fools out of us in front of all our guests and now you're being cold?" He shook his head.
"I ran away because I don't want to be with you two. You're crazy!" Your grip on Reed tightened as you watched their faces grow cold.
"We've only done what you've made us do, dear." Aiden scowled. "Now are you going to come with us, or do we have to kill the child to persuade you?"
Your eyes widened for a moment before you glanced back at Reed. His face was a mix of anger and fear. Your mind thinking quickly, you leaned toward him and whispered something in his ear.
His eyes widened, "B-But (Y/n)-"
"No. Listen to me. Okay?" You smiled and took the sword from his side, facing the twins again.
Connor and Aiden looked at you in amusement and anger.
"What are you doing?" Connor asked, eyeing the sword.
You looked at him angrily, "Reed. Run!"
Suddenly, the child took off behind you and instantly disappeared into the forest.
"Hey!" Aiden's horse moved forward but you held the sword up.
"Come any closer and I'll run it through my chest."
Aidens eyes widened, "Dear. Don't say such things. You wouldn't-"
"Oh, but I would." You held the sword to your chest. "Do you want to test me?"
Connors jaw tensed as he stared at you, "Why? Why are you trying to help him? Why are you-"
"Because you took everything from me!" A single tear rolled down your face, "You took everything from me. You killed Micah. You killed my parents." Your voice echoed out and around you.
Aiden furrowed his brow, "Dear-"
"Don't 'dear' me. I don't want to hear it Aiden. You two are insane. You can't blame me for every action you've done because I did not force you to. I never did."
Connor went to dismount his horse, "(Y/n)-"
"Stay on your horse or I swear I'll be gone faster than you can blink." You screamed. "I'm tired of you two not listening to me. You don't take my feelings into consideration and you do whatever pleases you!" You looked at the ground, feeling your voice going hoarse, "You probably killed your parents and your nanny! You two are so bloodthirsty!"
You glanced up at them and took a slight step back. They had never looked that angry around you.
"Never say that (Y/n)." Aiden murmured. "Our parents deaths destroyed us... So never say that we wanted them dead." His grip on the reigns tightened.
You shook, "Why...Why do you two get to act like you value life so much when you've taken it away from so many people!"
"That's enough!" Connor shouted, his eyes completely dark.
"You just don't like hearing the truth!"
Aiden hit the ground and he walked towards you angrily.
"Don't come any closer!" You screamed, tightening your grip.
He stopped a few feet away from you, "Stop it (Y/n). You're getting out of hand. Now come back to the palace and-"
"Leave her alone!" A voice cried and you watched as Reed jumped down and dragged Connor off of the horse. The two of them hit the ground and grunted. Reed jumped up and brought something down on Connor.
"Why you little-!" Aiden turned to run, but you grabbed his arm. You whirled him around towards you and his head collided with the hilt of your sword. He fell to the ground.
"(Y/n)!" Reed cried as he came over to you.
You grabbed him and gave him a quick hug, letting the sword fall to the ground, before you dragged him towards the two now unoccupied horses. "Not now. We need to get away before they wake up."
He nodded and both of you climbed up. You both flicked the reins and rode away from the palace.
"I'm sorry! I know you said to wait for a while, but Aiden got really close and then I couldn't stop myself and-"
You laughed and looked over at him, "It's fine. It worked out, my brave knight."
His eyes widened and sparkled before he nodded, smiling.
You turned your attention back to the forest, "Do you know how far the eastern border is?"
He thought for a moment before nodding, "Yeah. We're about two hours away from it. We should be able to be far away from this place by morning though." He smiled at you.
You nodded.
Far away...
You hadn't had the chance of thinking of what you'd do after you escaped.
You glanced at Reed, who was smiling and talking to the horses.
You'd gone through a lot in the past few weeks. You'd lost a lot of people as well. You smiled as Reed laughed and ran a hand down the horses mane. But maybe...just maybe Reed was the light at the end of the tunnel.
"What's wrong (Y/n). You're spacing out." Reed looked at you, smiling.
You shook your head and laughed, "Nothing Reed. Nothing."
Yeah...maybe it was worth it.
~~~~
His footsteps didn't make any sound as he walked through the forest, but he'd gotten used to the lack of sounds he made now. He saw what he was looking for and a small smile came to his face.
He knelt down in front of Aiden's unconscious form and let a small laugh escape his lips. He looked around to verify that you had gotten away. You had.
He looked up at the night sky and let a single tear fall down his cheek. It disappeared before it even got halfway to the ground. He reached a hand up toward the sky, noticing the faint glow around it.
"You did it Angel." He whispered, his hand falling back down, but no one heard it except for the wind.
A/N: It's done! This is the first time I've ever finished a book I've started and I've been writing since fourth grade. Never did I think that this many people would have taken the time to read the random story that came to my brain, but I am so thankful for every person who did. The support really kept me motivated. While this story may be done, I'm pretty sure I've already posted a new story so potentially check it out if you did like this one. If you didn't...sorry! Leave a suggestion on how I can improve ^-^. If anyone has any questions on the story or really anything in general feel free to ask! Ahhh~ It feels so satisfying to be able to switch this story to completed!
