Fie Wright's P. O. V
The conversation I had just taken to divert everyone onto the main topic backfired and went down in a fiery flame, ready to turn everything to ashes. My mouth still ajar as even Ezra's faultless blabbering stopped, the not so quiet man now all too quiet for a change as the King speaks his words.
My prior words were simply, not enough to evoke a response that would lead to a calamity. Maybe we're all just exaggerating but I must admit, it's unnerving to think of let alone literally unheard of.
When I tried to ask, 'What is our next course of action? Our Luna is dying and the veil between the two realms has been tampered with, surely we have to do something about it. We will right?'
A simple question. Not too complex but straight to the point and something that needed to be addressed. I was even planing to help out with it, not only considering the fact that I'm going to be the literal Queen but also wanting to settle into my role of advisor and well actually advise for once since I've been here.
"It's simple. I head to the realm and do it myself."
Blank stares and gaping mouths greet the King who looks on as if he just mentioned the lovely weather, granted it is pouring cats and dogs outside so the matter was subjective.
"B-but you're the King!" Ezra blabbers out as Malleus cuts off a bit of chicken with his knife, my mate raises his head with a raised brow, his expression not changed at all from the nonchalant one he's been sporting throughout the entire lunch.
"Which is why I'm the best one to go and do it. I'm the King, I can give my own seal of approval and I along with everyone in the Kingdom necessary will know it won't mess up again." He says bluntly. I continue to stare at him, only to snap out of my trance as he motions to my still full plate with his fork, eyes bemused at my lack of eating.
"Um," I pause for a second, forking some food into my mouth at the death stare I'm currently getting from my mate, chewing thoroughly, I swallow before asking him the question that I'm sure is plaguing everyone's mind and is rendering them speechless, "But you're the King. The King has never left his Kingdom in all the years he's reigned. I mean whose going to look after everything going around here if you're well, not here." I say confused, trying to wrap my head around the entirety of the situation.
Wars are few and far between since all of us live in pretty much simple harmony. That and the fact that no other species really gives a lesser shit about each other. We all do our own thing in our own little Kingdom with the only interaction being civil trade and an adventurous romp in the sheets here and there.
'To each their own' is like every mythological creatures life motto to live by.
His warm hand comes to rest on my knee as he diverts his entire attention to me, the worry most likely shining clear as day in my eyes while everyone else looks on, confused much like I am.
"Your Majesty, Fie speaks the truth. It is not possible for you to leave the Kingdom let alone the Realm on unofficial business. As important as this is, it's not official state business, I'm not sure how any of your council would agree to this." Marcus speaks around his food before his eyes connect with that of my mate's and his face starts to lose its colour, "I apologise if I spoke out of turn my King. I guess I am much too habituated with giving out advice, even when it might be unwarranted to do so." His words trail off into a silent murmur, Ezra eying his sad weirdly but then thumps his old dad on the back as if he just told the greatest joke in the world.
"Cheer up father. The King is family now. We can even call him Sire." Ezra's comments with a beaming smile, clearly missing out on the narrowed eyes and curled lipped snarl that Malleus threatens him with.
A squeeze of my hand and a quick mental 'please be nice' has everything turning out quite well as Malleus drops the threatening expression, instead deciding to focus his stare onto a still overly worried Marcus.
"I keep these things under wraps but it is not the first time I have ventured out of the Kingdom on visits that are quite the opposite of State business. Where do you think I had come from the day you ventured into the Realm and I met Fie?" He says as if it was completely normal of him to be gandering around, skipping across the cobbled footpaths of the village, having a picnic in the forest with some wood nymphs.
The thought disturbed the shit out of me. I can not imagine Malleus doing any of those let alone all of the above.
I do find myself reminiscing and thinking back to when I first waltzed into the huge throne room, my mate perched on the throne and changing my life completely. I nearly snort out loud as I think back to how I didn't even realise the man I was talking to for a few moments was actually my mate. I am a tad bit slow some times I do admit.
"How would that work out then?" I ask albeit timidly, not sure how this will all go down especially when it comes to the King leaving his Kingdom in broad daylight, although when you think of it maybe he sneaks out like a petulant teenager banned from going out to some random high school party on a Friday night.
Not wanting to alert anyone to my sudden movements, I slide my hand that was on his knee over to where his rests on mine, discreetly latching onto his hand and then intertwining our fingers to seek some comfort from my mate.
I can see Malleus pause for a second, his facial expressions getting clearer and clearer to me the longer we spend more time together. Right now it being obvious that he's trying to tack back his train of thought onto the proper tracks, my actions rendering him blank for a brief moment. The reaction enough to leave me struggling to hide my proud smirk.
"Firstly I will contact Alpha Tyrell to know the condition of your Luna. I will sort a few urgent matters I need to attend to here and then within a few days time, I will set off for the Fenrir Pack. If your Luna is deteriorating more than expected, that will top my list of emergency. Asha will be overseeing things while I leave and you can be under her wing." My nodding along to whatever Malleus says comes to a screeching halt as my lips part and I stare at him with a shocked expression.
I can hear someone coughing across the table as the tension increases around the table bit by bit the longer the silence drags on. My mate finally takes the bait as he asks me what I've been waiting for him to, "What is it Fie?"
"You said I'll be under Asha's wing which means you expect me to stay behind while you go wandering off back to my own Pack." I reiterate slowly, the animosity reaching tenfold as Malleus nods along to what I've said as if they weren't nonsensical or absurd.
"Yes. That is precisely what I said." He mutters curtly.
"Well you shouldn't have! I'm coming with you." A scoff can be heard coming from me followed by a clamber of steps as everyone gets up from their chairs, sending quick bows to the King before hightailing it out of the lavish dining room.
"Fie. This is not the time nor the place for you to want to come along. This is the serious matt-,"
"-Exactly why I should be coming along. You said yourself didn't you? I need to prove myself. This can be me being given the task that all King's and Queen's need to do in order to take over the throne. That way people will know I'm meant to be your mate and stand besides you." I end my rant, only now noticing I cut Malleus off mid way, the man looking rather peeved but not showing any other hint of annoyance.
"Fie, this is not some popularity contest. I told you that you don't need to prove yourself to anyone and that still stands. Besides, as harmless as this expedition is, the Kingdom needs the Queen at the throne. If something were to happen to me, there needs to be someone in charge to look over everything." The man says it so firmly while I try my hardest not to roll my eyes at his absurdity.
"Malleus, you might be forgetting I'm an advisor but I most certainly have not. We're not even mated nor have I had a crowning ceremony done. I am not officially the Queen and we all know how dirty politics plays its part in the throne. If something were to happen to you-," the pause comes automatically as a lump forms in my throat at the mere thought, my wood whining in distress at the back of my mind, "-I would be on that throne for less than a day before one of your cousins comes and slits my throat then and there. This might not be an episode of Game of Thrones but it's happened once, it'll happen again!"
My babbling of words and fierceness to be in the right for once has me spewing things I shouldn't be mentioning, especially the history of our Kingdom but my tongue seems to hold not restraint. That is of course until a deafening growl starts to be heard from the man sitting besides me, his once slack grip on my hand now tightening painfully as my ears hurt from the sheer volume of his growl. My eyes widen not in fear of my mate but at the vast blast of power exuding from his body, a wave of something unknown blasting around us as everything goes black and the distinct sound of glass rattling in their panes as some unlatch only to bang against the stone walls and letting in cold drafts of air. Pitch black greets me as the light flickers out while the wind and rain filters in, the atmosphere turning eerie within seconds.
I expect fear and terror to catch ahold of me in their death grips but instead, worry courses through me as I pry my hand out of my mates own hand. I make a move to get up but another sharp growl has me stilling all too quickly.
"Malleus." I start off slowly, raising my hands in front of me so that I don't bump into something I'm not supposed to, "Relax, Malleus." I try to soothe as thunder claps outside nearly causing me to jump from the sudden sound while the sky lights up a few seconds afterwards.
His beautiful blue glowing eyes burn brighter in the darkness as the light from outside fades away, my mate's eyes taking in every movement I make as I slowly reach my hand out, placing it delicately over his own. My slow hesitant movements end up in vain as another snarl tears through his throat, his hand flipping mine over as he grabs a hold my wrist, pulling me towards him nearly causing me to go flying. I try to maintain my balance but another forceful tug has me stumbling forward and into his chest, his arms caving around me as his hands move to my hips, lifting me up only to settle me down into his lap before latching onto my wrist again. I freeze for a little while, trying to take in his frame of mind.
Releasing my wrist from his grip, I place both hands on his chest, gently moving them up and down the large expanse in hopes he'll calm down. Not much seems to be working since I already know his wolf is at the forefront, his human and animalistic side battling against each other to conquer his mind. Frowning for a second, I wonder what next to do since he seems just as on edge, his lip curled up and shining as I catch a glimpse of his elongated canines.
The thought of him marking me here and now not exactly settling well with me. The man might be my mate but in terms of connections, that's the only one we have. I don't even know his favourite colour or anything of the sorts that can establish and deepen our bond.
Leaning forward, I let out a silent sigh as I gently place my forehead against his, sparks erupting at the soothing contact. I nearly smile in relief as the soft growls coming from Malleus slow die down. Unable to help myself, I lean down a bit till my lips land on his, my smile growing bigger as he responds almost immediately, his lips against mine nearly frantic as we pick up speed. One of Malleus hands leaves its grip on my hips and comes up to cup the side of my face, a slow subdued whine echoing around us and reaching my ears.
I nearly aww audibly at my mate's reaction as I pull back, nothing how his eyes have gone back to their normal gorgeous blues, the iris as dark as the storming sky outside.
"You okay Malleus?" I ask softly, not wanting to break the calm trance he appears to be in. I'm granted with the soft nodding of his head as his slackened grip tightens on me, his head burrowing into the crook of my neck as another whine leaves the back of his throat. Threading my fingers through his unruly hair, I give him a few moments to further relax while I scratch gently at his scalp, messaging him in the hopes that he'll relax even further.
"Don't ever say that again." Malleus' voice comes out gruff and thick with emotion.
"I agree I went a bit over board." I say hesitantly, not wanting to upset him further.
"A bit?" The exasperation clear in his voice, "I never want you mentioning anything like that happening to you again."
"I'm sorry. I won't." I say sincerely, not wanting him to revert back to how he was just a few minutes ago.
I do have an itch to bring up the topic of me venturing with him back to my Pack, wanting to see my parents again along with the rest of the members since I didn't even get to say goodbye properly, however, I know this is not the time nor the place, especially with how Malleus just reacted.
"Come, lets go to the bedroom and relax for a bit." I mumble to him as I try to get up but to no avail. A grunt and a tiny laugh later, Malleus is on his feet with my tightly in his arms, not letting me down no matter how much I pester him. Deciding to let the subject drop for now, I allow him to carry me to our bedroom. The lights flickering on slowly all around the castle.
Maybe he has some backup generator or something? Although, there is a nagging feeling telling me that the wave of power emitting from him just might have had something to do with it. As likely as it seems, it's also increasingly unlikely because wolves don't have the power to do things like that. No matter the fact that you're a King of all of the wolves.
I let out a sigh of content as Malleus deposits me on the bed. My body immediately missing the comfort and warmth of my mate's body as he walks around the room, picking up things and placing others down here and there. Snuggling into the pillows, I bury myself in the plush comforter, looking like a burrito as my eyes latch onto my mate.
When he turns back around, I stick my hand out of the bedding, wanting for him to join me which he does so without a second thought.
"I have ordered some more food to be delivered to you since you didn't finish your lunch." I smile sheepishly, not wanting to admit that I am still a bit peckish as I scoot over to give him some room. My eyes dart outside to the window, the darkened sky looking eerie as ever since it's barely four in the afternoon right now but feels as if we've just hit midnight.
"You have to share with me since you didn't finish either." I say pointedly while leaning into his embrace as he backs the both of us into the headboard, my head on his shoulder while my hand splays onto his chest.
"We should get to know each other." I muse after a short silence, wanting the air to be filled with something other than my overly noisy breathing.
"How so?" He questions.
"Um, well I already know you're a twenty something virgin which isn't a good look on anybody." I joke lightheartedly.
"So are you. What's your point?" A swift smack later I settle down against him once more. "How old are you anyways?"
My question doesn't get answered right away as a knock ensues at our door, signalling the arrival of our lunch. A few minutes later, I end up perched on my mate's lap while I try to pry the fork passed his lips.
"I'm twenty six. You're twenty two." Malleus says nonchalantly as if that was common knowledge.
"I asked Asha when she went through your file," he says simply while I nod along.
"Hmm. What about your family?" I question further.
"Parents are off somewhere in the Kingdom. I don't have any siblings and well my Aunt and Uncle were killed off by another relative of mine."
Well, it definitely doesn't feel like I'm in an episode of Game of Thrones.
"How cheerful." I comment dryly which earns me a laugh.
"I wasn't bothered by it. They died before I was born." He quips back as I nod my head, according the bit of meat on the fork into my mouth.
"You're right you know?" Malleus says slowly after a subdued silence.
"About what?" I question confused, brows furrowed while he tugs me into his embrace, placing the empty dish on the bedside table.
"You should come with me back to your Pack. You need to go back properly to say goodbye, meet your cousins and parents before coming back here." He says finally, leaving me stunned.
"I am allowed to see them repeatedly aren't I?" My voice is laced with shock and longing of the possibilities.
"Of course you are. They can visit us as well but officially you'll be a part of my Kingdom and won't hold ties to your previous Pack." He explains which causes me to calm down a bit, nodding at his words.
"You'll really let me come with you?" I ask, the excitement barely concealed in my voice as he nods his head.
"I jumped to conclusions and then lost my mind when you-," he stops before clearing his throat and continuing, "-said what you said. I should've thought about it from your perspective." His words brings a smile to my face as I tilt my head up, placing a soft kiss onto his lips which earns me a soft purr of approval rumbling from the depths of his chest.
"Thank you." I say sincerely which leads to another short peck.
"Anything for you my Queen."
