Fie Wright's P. O. V
The first thing I notice is the cold seeping into my bones as the vivid sight of a castle perched high up on the crest of the hall now turns hazy, everything appearing as if it's been muted and toned down to lack any sort of perpetual vigour. Bland is all I can describe the scenery in front of me where once the imagery was sharp and crisp, catching ahold of my attention like no other but now, instead, I'm focused upon the cold draft that swirls against my exposed legs and arms. I can feel a deep frown etching onto my face while my dark brows knit together, something missing that was previously there just a few moments ago.
An all too familiar feeling embraces me now as I get pulled out of the dream world I was once stuck in, the castle belonging to my mate now dispersing while I flutter my eyes open with a groan. The frown on my face growing deeper than ever before as I realise what the source of my intrusion into my dreams was. Reaching out one bare arm, the right side of the bed feels cold to the touch and I know there and then that Malleus moving out of the bed was what had caused the commotion in my dream.
It's gotten so bad that I can't even dream in peace when the man leaves my side. This is a severe case of codependency.
Rolling onto my back, I run my hand over my bleary eyes while they focus in and out at my careless rubbing, my body already screaming at me to go find my mate and drag him into bed. Neither body nor mind too concerned with it being for sleep or other activities that could possibly take place.
Thankfully I don't have to dwell on any lustful thoughts being conjured up by my naughty mind as approaching footsteps sound out, each footfall coming closer and closer to my room till they stop just outside the closed door while a moment of hesitation passes. I take that as an opportunity to run my hands through my hair and simultaneously propping myself up in bed since the scent emanating from the other side of the door only belongs to one person, i.e. the only person I'll be fixing my appearance for at such an ungodly hour.
I can tell Malleus is trying his best to stop my bedroom door from creaking on its hinges but considering the door moans like a wanton whore eagerly seeking a hefty wage, he'll be pushing it open bit by bit for the rest of the door so that it doesn't make any noise. I can already tell the moment he gives up as a huff resonates from the other side of the wood before it swings open only for the man to pause in surprise at my eagerly awaiting grin.
"Oh. You're up." He says simply to which I nod, that being all the cue he needs to make his way over to me. My smile grows wider tenfold as the little tradition we had set up back in the castle's bedroom seems to take up residence here. A steaming mug of tea cradled in his hands as he leans down to place a chaste kiss onto my forehead while he deposits the hot item carefully into my hold, perching himself on my bed in the process.
"No running off to work this morning," I tease since our morning greetings end up with Malleus scuttling away to some corner of the huge castle while I sip at my tea till it's time to get ready and get my ass handed to me by Asha.
"Not at all. I get to manage to spend these next few days glued to my mate," he responds back, his grin mirroring mine.
"What if I object?"
Soft laughter falls from Malleus' lips, his teeth wide on display while a delightful sensation erupts in the pit of my stomach, "Don't you know? I'm the King. What I say goes." His matter of fact tone doesn't go unnoticed by me as I school my features into that of a glare.
"The woman you're looking at is going to be Queen so I'd be careful what you say around her. She might end up having you eating your own words," I voice out, the playfulness evident in my tone to which he shakes his head at.
Taking a sip of the tea, euphoria runs through me while I hide myself for the addiction that I seem to have gotten.
"She already has me eating out of her palm. I won't be surprised if anything else of the sort happens." Malleus' words are stopped by his smile turning wistful, adoration clear in his eyes which I'm sure mimic mine. Shaking my head to clear the fogginess that emits only when he's next to me, I take another sip of the sweet tea.
"I concur, your highness."
The next hour consisted of Malleus coaxing me out of bed with promises of a hearty breakfast, I finally relent to it after brushing my teeth clean d washing my face till I sparkled from the neck up. Putting my hair up in a ponytail after getting dressed, I finally made my way downstairs and to sight that grows fond in my heart. Malleus leaning against the stove with a frustrated scowl on his face, one hand holding a spatula while the other fiddles with the knob on the stove.
"I didn't know you could cook," I voice out, my mate obviously aware of my presence as he throws a frustrated look over his shoulder.
"I can cook but preferably more so when I know how to work the damn stove." The growl is apparent in his voice causing me to laugh gently, leaning over him and pressing a small button to ignite the fire.
"Dad got the fanciest stove he could to deter mom in any ways possible from cooking," I inform simply, pressing a few more buttons to make sure the flame is just right to cook whatever Malleus intends on making.
"Is she really that bad?" He questions in disbelief while I shrug my shoulders at him. Straining my senses, I can already tell my father had left for work a little over an hour ago while my mother traipsed around in the bedroom, shuffling through something.
"We had to remodel the entire kitchen a little less than a year ago because she tried cooking my father a meal for their wedding anniversary." I shake my head at the memory. Coming home after a tough days of training only to see smoke coming out of the house while people threw water at the flames which of course made it worse, the fire thankfully not spreading to the rest of the house since the firefighters showed up in time and managed to contain and douse it out.
"That's... intense," Malleus utters out after a moment of pausing, the scene probably playing over in his mind, "You can cook right?" His weary tone has me rolling my eyes at the words.
"Of course I can cook. I'm multi talented." This time, Malleus is the one rolling his eyes in amusement at my overly 'duh' tone.
"So what do you want to do today?" I ask once my stomach is filled to the brim with my hefty breakfast, a slight uncomfortableness tweaking at my overly filled tummy as I readjust my position and almost wanting to pop my top jean button open.
Malleus leans over the counter, elbows propping him up with their support while he splays his hands in front of me, "As long as I'm with you, I don't mind but I do have one request," I nearly blush at the implication but manage to hold it back, the intrigue too much for me not to focus on, "I want to check up on your Luna. See how she's coping with being up and what not."
Everything turns blank for a second, my hand on the table going limp while I balk for a tense second. No part of me is able to process what he's just said which is why I take a deep breath and only then look up at him, "You're saying Luna Aria is awake right now?"
Malleus raises his eyebrows, confusion on his face for a split second as he speaks up, "Oh, I thought I mentioned she'd be up in a while to Tyrell when we healed her yesterday."
A huff of air escapes me while I nod my head, still in utter disbelief as I swallow harshly, "Yeah you did but I thought that was just you trying to console him. She's really up?" I try to push down the hope that's clawing its way up inside me, not wanting to bathe myself in any sort of falsity since I know it'll be a pain to deal with later.
"Can you not feel her link? Close your eyes and concentrate." Without wasting another minute, my eyes snap shut while I delve into the fold of interconnecting webs, searching for the one that usually stands at the top in my mind but now at a level just slightly above the others. Ignoring that, I reach out to my Luna's thread, careful not to tug at it yet also expecting the stagnant lifelessness that has been plaguing her subconscious for so long, however, I'm greeted with a gentle thrumming of life as a warmth cascades down the entirety of my body.
Eyes snapping open, my dropped jaw works its way up back into the confines of my mouth while I stand up in alarm, grabbing all the dishes and putting them in the sink as fast as my werewolf body can take me before I'm clutching onto Malleus' hand and lugging him in the direction we came from just yesterday.
I won't believe it until I see it with my eyes.
Stopping in front of the much guarded door, I cease my objectives of checking to see if my Luna is alright and instead, glance from the guards to the door and then at my mate who stares down at me with worry in his eyes. I'm sure I would be worried as well if my mate acted so haphazardly and then stopped altogether.
"Are you alright Fie?" He questions tenderly while the both of us ignore the bowing guards at our feet, or more like his feet.
"Yeah. Um, why don't you just go inside for now. I just realised me barging in like that won't do any good. The Alpha and Luna need some time to themselves so you check in on them yourself. Just let me know how she's doing." I reply, trying to think with a more level headed approach as I nod my head in confirmation at what I've just said.
They need their privacy and me walking in like this is the last thing the couple needs.
"Fie," I can already tell Malleus is about to protest to my words but with another shake of my head, I try to push the tears in my eyes to go back inside instead of down my face, "Trust me Malleus. Make sure my Luna is alright." The hesitancy is clear on his face but after one sharp look from me, he places a soft kiss on my forehead.
The guards rise to their feet after a quick signal from Malleus who looks at me one last time while I practically shove him through the door, watching the obstruction hiding my mates back once he steps through the threshold.
I need to stop being so damn emotional. I'm sure every other wolf in this pack feels the exact same way as I do but you don't see them rushing and barging in.
Taking a deep breath, I smile timidly at the worried and slightly skeptical looks I'm getting from the guards, trying to calm them down and not look like I'm bat shit crazy.
Too preoccupied with my stir crazy mind, I nearly jump in the air as a voice filters in, echoing throughout my head as my body straightens itself up, already used to not slouching in the presence of my Alpha be it physically or telepathically.
'What on Earth are you doing outside Fie? Come inside. Please.' The plea in my Alpha's voice has me automatically reaching for the door handle as if I've gotten some sort of Alpha command even though it was a mere request. The tumultuous churning in my stomach and the gnawing guilt clutching at my heart has me taking a deep breath while I twist the door handle, letting out the breath of air as the door finally swings open. The sight before me had tears flooding to my eyes like a chain reaction but as always, I blink my teary eyes away and force a small smile onto my face. Pretending to be strong when all I want to do is curl up into my mate's arms.
Malleus is already one step ahead as his warm hand makes its way onto the small of my back, not saying anything at all and giving me space while being there for me simultaneously, all while I stare straight ahead like I've just watched a miracle being performed. In short enough words, what I'm seeing right now could be considered a miracle especially with the way Luna Aria is propped up on two pillows, both her hands devoured by a beaming Alpha Tyrell whereas his mate has an even brighter smile on her face, appearing as fresh as a daisy if I dare say.
"Look at you going above and beyond and getting yourself a King for a mate," comes a familiar soft giggle, a voice I thought I'd never hear considering I would talk to it's owner continuously for two months straight, waiting for an answer but only getting silence in return.
"A-Aria," I gasp out, still not believing what my eyes are screaming at for me to realise.
When hands slide over each other and Aria opens her arms wide, the grin growing ever bigger and showcasing her pearly teeth, nothing holds me back this time as I take the next few steps and launch myself into her awaiting arms. The warmth and comfort cascading off of her making me almost want to never let go. I hold on for as long as I can, biting down on my bottom lip to stop the sob from pouring out since I don't want to taint this happy occasion with my useless blubbering.
"You're actually awake." I mumble into her curly hair while I inhale the calming scent of my Luna, the wolf within me letting out a deep howl as she rejoices at the moment of getting not only her Luna back but also her best friend.
"I wasn't about to leave you and Tyrell on your own for too long. God knows what a mess Ezra would have created for you." Another soft chuckle has my heart nearly bursting out of my chest in joy, hugging her as tight as ever before I finally let her go, not wanting to smother the woman too much. I'm barely finished taking a step back from the woman when Alpha Tyrell clutches onto her once more, a kind look in his eyes but his smile slightly strained from being away from her even for a few seconds.
"He did drive us crazy." I nod in agreement, wondering where the young man is considering his sister in law is wide awake. Knowing how he is, I would've expected him to come in singing and dancing before he'd be thrown out by all of us for causing a ruckus.
Alpha Tyrell nods in agreement at my remark in regards to Ezra, a momentary silence settling in as I head over to where Malleus stands patiently, latching onto him immediately while letting out a sigh of content as he wraps his string burly arms around me in a tight embrace.
"Thank you." Comes a choked voice from the direction of Alpha Tyrell, the man's head bowed but shoulders moving with restrained force, almost like he's stopping himself from letting out the flood of tears and sobs that threaten to flow at any minute, "I know I won't ever be able to help like the both of you have but my gratefulness is sincere and if there is ever anything I can do, I'll do it to the best of my abilities." The crack in his voice at the end has my lips tugging down in a frown while Aria rubs her fingers through his hair, calming both the frantic man and wolf as she scratches soothingly at his scalp.
"I will have to follow my mate's footsteps in being thankful. Honestly I don't know what happened for half of it but I'm grateful that you helped my King. You too Fie. I'm in your debt. You can force me to slave away in the kitchen to make your favourite chocolate fudge brownies every day for the rest of my life." Luna Aria jokes while I let out a soft laugh at what she says, almost about to take her up on the offer since her gooey fudge brownies are to die for.
"It was no matter. A subject within my Kingdom was in need and I'll do everything in my power to make sure I'm there to help as best as I can. I just apologise it took so long," Malleus says formally while referring to the three months that passed while she was in her comatose like state. I know there are many unsolved questions as to what happened in the last few moments before the Luna fell ill, the memory causing a shiver to rake down my spine while guilt simultaneously attacks me and almost seeps out of my pores.
"I'm glad you're Fie's mate, your Highness. You will be smitten with her in no time." The Luna speaks freely. I'd have been caught by surprise but the woman wasn't one for any sort of formalities, of course, she's respectful and knows when to stay in her limits but she's also like a free soul that brings light to whatever she touches, causing everyone to be at ease and let loose when they're in her presence. Apparently all Luna's have that trait but I've only come across one another to confirm that theory.
"I already am Luna Aria. This woman has me wrapped around her fingers and she hardly knows it," Malleus is surprisingly forthcoming which results in a blush to rage at my face although I do shoot him a cheeky smile.
"You've fallen into my trap and don't even know it. Why do you think you get me tea every day in the morning," I joke to which he shakes his head in amusement, about to speak up before the door slams open with a deafening thud. I barely even manage to blink before Malleus' broad back covered by his black shirt enters directly in front of me as I try to take a step back but unable to do so due to the grip he's got on my arm. Peeking over his shoulder, Alpha Tyrell appears to be in quite the same position except for the fact that he seems like he's going to shift then and there, the threat of danger alerting the Alpha in front of him to protect his mate all while I roll my eyes at the two testosterone filled men.
Cmon. Has Alpha Tyrell forgotten who'd actually barge into the room unannounced and act as if they own the place.
I don't even get to finish the thought as the person enters, a wide smirk on their lips with their eyes focused on the Luna in front of them.

AN: Whooooo could it be? Is this me creating drama or just pretending to create drama. Who knows? Tbh even I don't know at this point lol but it'll come together as I go along. We'll see. The picture above is the one and only Luna Aria and there might be a book about Luna Aria and Alpha Tyrell in the future. Let me know if that seems like an intriguing prospect to you!
Also thank you to those who helped with the past/passed issue I had, you're all so kind. I'm blessed to have readers like you ❤️.
Question: Would you rather have one real get out of jail free card or a key that opens any door?
