Fie Wright's P. O. V
The walk down the cold draughty hall has me nearly shivering even though I try my best to mask it, not wanting the tall man besides me to figure out just how cold these damn stone walls are making me.
The urge to stare at my mate out of the corner my eyes gets to be too overpowering and I finally give in. It's been barely a few hours since I've even known about the prospect of my mate currently existing and me being apart of his life and vice versa but nonetheless, I can't help myself from making both my wolf and I know that he's really here. He's not something my imagination has merely conjured up.
Not that even my imagination could make up something as beautiful as the being walking besides me.
Man, did I hit the jackpot or what?
My eyes travel all the way from his legs up his huge expanse of a chest before finally making their way up to his face, eyes immediately connecting with his own blue ones causing me to blush immediately. Clearing my throat, I try my best to pretend like I don't notice the knowing glint in his own blue gaze as he catches me practically drooling over his looks.
Pretending to turn my head away from where Malleus is, I look this way and that as I try to fake intrigue at my surroundings which is a feat to do considering all we're walking through is a tunnel laden with stone.
"This is the outskirts of the castle. More towards the barracks. Just up ahead is where the actual part of the castle begins." Malleus announces as I nod my head in understanding even though I'm not entirely sure what the man means by 'actual part of the castle.'
Does that mean I'm going to be surrounded by the glitz and glamour that the life of royals seems to be indulged in.
I practically cringe at the thought as I think back over my own belongings. The fanciest thing I own is a Luis Vuitton handbag which I stole from my mom, which I also think might be fake but that's besides the point.
It's apparent when we start getting closer towards, what Malleus describes as the actual part of the castle, as the ground we walk on levels out properly and the walls seem to refine their jagged rocky surface if that even is possible. We pass through a door edged into the wall and it's as if we step through into another place altogether as the stoned walls get replaced with wallpapered walls that branch off in multiple directions as other hallways and corridors branch off under wooden panelled archways. A warm toned carpet is soft beneath my feet as my mouth drops open in wonder at the paintings of regally dressed men and woman grace the walls at intersections here and there.
What makes me come to an abrupt halt, however, is the sight of a huge chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The light reflecting off the tiny diamonds that drape from it in swooping torrents. The expensive aura isn't what takes me by shock but rather the fact that there aren't candles situated in the holders of the chandelier, rather ordinary looking glass bulbs.
"Is everything alright?" Comes my mates husky tone from right bedsides me while all I manage to do is merely gape before pointing a finger at what captures my attention.
"You have electricity." I state simply to which the man raises a singular black eyebrow, what I think is subtle humour erupting within his eyes.
"Do you think we live in the tenth century? Of course we have electricity." He says simply before he regains walking as I splutter behind him.
"B-but back in the hall there wasn't any light. Nor at the pub we stopped off at. They were using candles." I say indignantly, not wanting the man to think I'm a complete idiot even though I haven't really given him an option to think otherwise.
"Because that pub is too far out of the city's reach. That is practically in the middle of nowhere. We have WiFi too if it eases your conscience." This time my mouth properly drops open and I nearly start patting at my pockets to check if he's actually messing with me or not.
One look at the stoic man and I realise he probably doesn't know what a joke is if it slaps him straight in the face.
"Ezra will be pleased." Is all I get out as we make our way further down the hall. I note how once before there was not a single soul roaming around in the castle corridors when we were being led to and away from the rooms we were situated in but now there are people scuttling about everywhere. Most them appearing to be staff as men and women alike are busy scampering down the hall with everyday household cleaning items as they dust off paintings and re arrange the decorations to be in pristine condition.
"You say he is your cousin." The man states while my brows furrow at the particular wording and tone of his statement before realisation dawns on me when I think back to how any mated wolf is in general.
"I say he's my cousin because he is my cousin," Malleus let's out a grunt, not seemingly amused with my words as I shake my head and continue on, "Like I said, he's Alpha Tyrell's brother and Marcus' son. Their mother was the reigning Alpha." I finish as he nods his head at me astutely.
"Yes. Alpha Eleanor was a competent leader. She raised her son the same." He states as my eyebrows raise.
"You know Alpha Eleanor?" I question, wondering how many times I've been around the woman and finding it slightly disconcerting that her and my mate were in touch when I barely knew he existed.
It's a small world.
"I keep in touch with all Alpha's." Malleus says simply while I bite my tongue, forgetting the little tidbit that my mate is a king and I'm currently walking in his castle.
I try my best to ignore the blatant staring of the people flirting by us even though I also try to smile back at the nicer people who give me their own timid smiles. I'm about to open my mouth and ask Malleus a question but stop mid way just as we step out into what looks like a staircase that leads up towards who knows where.
Just as we're about to go up the stairs, a flash of gold stops the both of us mid way as a woman calls out Malleus by his title. I try and fail to not stiffen up as the mere voice of a woman addressing the man meant for me as my wolf fidgets around somewhere inside of me. Willing my anxious wolf to stop, I chide both myself and her to stop acting like a crazy obsessive girlfriend.
Malleus stills in place before turning around while I hover awkwardly before deciding to turn around myself, not wanting my side to face whoever is calling out my mates name.
My eyes land upon what I assumed the flash of gold was; a beautiful shimmering dress that grazes the floor is adorned by a woman with dark strikingly clear skin. Her big youthful green eyes shine both respect and mirth as she takes the sight of the both of us in. Her dark full red lips are pulled back in a polite smile with her straight pearly white teeth glinting at us. Her hair is obscured from sight as it seems to be piled high up in a bun that's wrapped up in a deep maroonish red head scarf. The woman stands tall with her hands clasped in front of her as she bows her head just as she reaches us.
"You must be King Malleus' mate. The new hot gossip." She jokes before stepping forward and pulling me into a deep tight hug. I pause momentarily before softening my stance and finally hugging her back, bringing my arms up and around her to loosely return her death hold.
My eyes catch those of Malleus as he waits for the woman to step back which she does after a few moments, "Fie, meet Asha. She is head advisor to the throne. Asha this is Fie," the man pauses for a moment as his eyes meet mine before letting the words slip past his tongue, "My mate." The way with which he utters my name causes a delightful shiver to run up my spine which I try my hardest to dampen down.
My wolf is not about to get up and horny with a man she's just met not even a day ago. Even if he is my mate, damn it.
Asha's kind green eyes meet mine and my previous jealous spout slithers away as all I can see is sincerity as she wishes me congratulations. "It's so nice to meet you," she gushes as my own smile tugs at my lips.
"You look just like your father, I must admit." Asha smiles fondly as I smile back before I my brows furrow at my words.
"You've met my father?" I question as I watch her intently, her own smile not faltering but the man besides me placing his hand at my back once more, almost as if urging me to move along.
Asha nods her head eagerly at my words as she answers me back, "Fredrick Wright? Of course I know him. He's one of the Head Advisor's to one of the best packs in the other realm-," she gets cut off as Malleus clears his throat. The woman's own lips clamping shut as her once vibrant smile now strains slightly as it gets just that tiny bit fake.
"Well anyways. It was nice to meet you. I hope to catch up with you some more. It'll be great to get some friendly perspective rather than the ordering around this brute does." Before Malleus or I can get a word in edgewise, the woman throws me a sly wink as she saunters passed us and down the hall which we just came from.
"Why did you shut her off when she mentioned my father?" I ask to which he strides ahead, almost as if he's hesitating to answer my question as we go up the stairs.
"I did no such thing." Is all I get in reply as we continue to go up the carpeted stairs, my hand gripping the ornately decorated railing as I haul myself up. Finally reaching the top, Malleus continues to guide the way before coming to an abrupt stop at one of the most luxurious corridors that I've seen in this place. Granted I haven't seen much of the huge castle but everything in this place sparkles and shines with gems or gold. Nothing seems to be overly gaudy but just right with minimalistic touches here and there to lessen the glitz and glamour of everything else.
"This is the Royal Wing," he states almost as if the entire castle doesn't belong to a royal itself, "This is where I stay and where you will be staying." If that doesn't bring my sarcastic thoughts to a screeching halt, I don't know what will as I peer up at the man through wide eyes.
"We'll be staying-," I cut myself off as the thought runs through my mind.
Will I be sleeping in the same room as this guy?
The nerves rushing through my body cause my stomach to twist and turn with butterflies and other such creatures alike. The imagery of us bundled together in one bed is enough to let a blush take over not just my face but almost my entire body as my mind wanders down a lustful line of thinking.
Not that I'm worried about Malleus' wandering hands touching things they shouldn't be. Oh no. It's definitely my own body parts I'm careful about since I might take things down a road that I most definitely shouldn't be so early on. Not that my horny wolf wouldn't enjoy it. The damn animal is practically panting at the thought of such a moment occurring.
"You'll be spending most of your time here. I can show you around," Malleus pauses momentarily and I can feel that he wants to say something but it's almost as if he's hurried over what my reaction will be to what he says.
Since when I have I been so good at reading someone?
"You can stay in my room but do not worry. If you want your own room to sleep in, you can choose one right next to mine." The King says as if he's reading my thoughts to which I gratefully nod.
"I think I'll have my own room for now." I try to say as kindly as possible, only just missing the tightening of his already sharp jaw.
At least I know he'd like for me to share his room with him.
We walk further down, passing only a few doors till we reach a set of double doors with carvings etched into the expensive wood. He pushes them open without much effort as my mouth drops open at the interior of it all. Crème coloured walls with accents of gold here and there along with a few pops of vibrant colours tiding everything in place. The room isn't a bedroom like I thought it would be but instead is a living room with a huge television perched up on the wall with a fireplace beneath it. Two sofas in front of it with a rug draped across the wooden floor of the entire room. A pair of long floor to ceiling curtains take up one end of the wall that are ready to block off the light emitting from the huge french windows at one end showcasing the views of another garden much different than the one I saw before. Two different doors branch off in opposite directions and I'm going to take a random guess and say that Malleus' bedroom is situated behind one of them.
"The one to the right is my own bedroom. That room over there is a connection to yours. If you need anything, just come through that door and into the other one." He says simply before heading over to the door that apparently connects my future room to his personal living room.
If I need anything, huh? No.
I have to mentally give myself a shake to stop the thoughts running through my mind. I'd die before I let anything like that slip to the man waiting for me to walk through the door.
Walking passed him, my eyebrows raise and nearly blend in with my hairline as I take in the sheer size of my bedroom. The room is bigger than my parents master bedroom back home and that's saying something since I thought that room was huge. The bed takes up nearly half of it and is stacked high with pillows of various shapes and sizes. I have to restrain myself from launching across the place and landing face first in my own bed. The walls themselves are a light colour and the furnishings consist of a dresser and a few side tables here and there with another two doors branching off. I'm assuming one of them to be the bathroom. Maybe the other one leads somewhere else?
I don't get to take my room in any longer as Malleus walks out and sits himself on the two seater sofa in the living room before motioning for me to join him. Hesitantly I do so and sit across from him which he doesn't seem to take too kindly to as his blue eyes narrow by just a tiny amount. The man doesn't seem to show too much emotion.
"We have a few things to discuss. Set a few ground rules." The mere phrase sets my wolf on edge and I can almost physically feel the slow burn of her emotions mixing with mine as she peers through me into my own mates eyes.
"What ground rules?" The words are thick in my mouth as my own jaw clenches together, one part of me already guessing what he's about to say.
"You are obviously my mate but along with that connection comes the title of you being my Queen. However, before I can rightfully claim you as my mate, you'll need to pass a few tests. To see if you are worthy of the title and duties of being what you are to me." The words seem to come out carefree yet simultaneously monotonous as my eyebrow raises, my legs finding themselves baring the weight of my body as I stand up once more. That same fire coursing through my wolf's body causing me to nearly bare my teeth at the man besides me.
"What did you just say?" The words come out through clenched teeth as Malleus himself stands up, his height dwarfing my own but that doesn't make me want to back down but to set him straight even more so. "Is this why you've been distant? Not acting like an overly affectionate mate?" I don't realise the extent of my words till my own wolf practically forces them out of me.
It does indeed dawn on me as I think back to how nearly all newly mated wolves can't even seem to take their hands off of each other. Practically dry jumping each other then and there when they set eyes on one another for the very first time. Never not touching and holing themselves in their bedrooms for the next few days if not a week. The higher your ranking, the higher your possessiveness towards your other half and it's not only the male that feels the connection. Considering my mate is the King, us being even a few feet away from each other is a big deal.
Malleus' eyes blaze in anger as his own teeth pull back, his words a growl as he speaks, "It is not just myself that I have to think of, it is everyone else as well. You will stay in this room till further notice. You're lucky I'm even letting your cousin stay back to keep you company since I could very easily chain you to your bed with the only company you get is from the maid's serving you food."
The human side of me nearly cracks then and there but my wolf doesn't let me roll over in submission and allow the Alpha King to speak to us that way. My own words harsh and guttural as the animal inside me voices her animalistic twisted jargon that works it's way up my throat, "I will not sit idly by and do not think for one second all I'm worthy for is looking pretty and baring your pups. I do not need to prove myself to anyone least of all you, mate." The last word comes out like poison coating my tongue, my eyes locking onto his as my wolf fully takes control. I barely realise us running out of the room and leaving our mate behind.
The only sounds coming from the room is his thunderous growl.

AN: Hello! How was that? Typical Alpha Male crap with the man needing to be put in his place or was Fie over reacting, well her wolf rather? Both of them in the wrong?
Question: What is your least favourite genre of music?
