Maybe she had acted too rash. For the last two weeks, Lauren's mind had been playing the whole situation over and over again. Her emotions had obviously gotten the better of her, and that night of overthinking had caused her to act out quickly without really thinking through her decision.
She had heard nothing from Sam since she left his flat. Dean had told her that he was mad, but why wouldn't he be? The girl had told him that she loved him, only to break his heart the next day. Nicki kept reminding her that her mental health should come first, and the insecurities and negative was only making her feel down. She also made several comments about how if she was with her at the market she would have 'beat that bitch up.'
Lauren had thrown herself into her training contract over the past two weeks, keeping to herself and coming straight home on the metro after. She was terrified of seeing Sam, terrified of what he would do or say or how angry he would be at her. She avoided all of his local haunts. Every time Claire had text her asking her to come to the Low Lights for a catch up she had said she was busy. She refused to walk down to the Fish Quay with Nicki, knowing that there was a slight possibility he would be there. In all honesty, she had avoided North Shields in its entirety terrified that she would turn a corner and be faced with the boy she was so in love with.
As she was sitting, wallowing in her own thoughts, she heard a small knock on her bedroom door which slowly opened to reveal Nicki and Dylan. Nicki held a small cake in her hands with two candles spelling out the number '21'. The two burst out into an awful rendition of happy birthday, before Lauren blew out her candles and pulled the two into a hug.
'Right what are we doing tonight?' Dylan asked, looking expectantly at the birthday girl.
'I don't really feel like celebrating' she said sadly. She knew Sam had had plans for her birthday, and it was making her extremely sad that she wouldn't get to spend her birthday with him.
'Right! Enough of this!' said Nicki. 'We're taking you out and we're getting you pissed. It's your 21st for God's sake! You can't just lie in bed all day.'
After that, Lauren had been dragged out of bed by Nicola, showered, her hair perfectly curled and had a full face of makeup on. She had squeezed herself into a tight dress before the three headed to the Salutation for a drink, before planning to head into Newcastle to dance the night away.
Sitting with her two best friends, Lauren had downed two vodka lemonades, five shots of sambuca and two jager bombs. It was safe to say, the girl was drunk and ready to party. The three decided on having one more drink, so the girl got up and headed to the bar to order the last round. As she stood by the bar, she felt a presence to her right. She quickly turned her head to be met with two boys.
'Joe, Drew. Hey' Lauren smiled at the two. She looked behind them, expecting to see Sam. She was puzzled at him not being with them, the three boys often went to the pub on a Saturday night so to not see him was odd.
'He's not here' Joe said. 'Poor lad's too cut up about it being your birthday.'
Suddenly, the good mood that Nicki and Dylan had managed to create disappeared. She dropped her head into her hands, trying not to cry and ruin her makeup Nicki had spent so long on.
'Come on, it's her birthday!' Nicki said from behind her. 'She doesn't need this from you two!' The girl then turned to the upset blonde by the bar, 'come on Lauren, lets go. We'll have a great night for your birthday and then you can deal with this tomorrow.'
The blonde nodded her head and headed out of the bar with her two friends. As the three sat in the taxi on the way into Newcastle, the blonde spoke up.
'I think I've made a mistake.'
...
Lauren woke up the next day with one of the worst headaches she had ever experienced. She didn't remember much of the night after the trio left the Sal, but she did remember drowning her sorrows with a lot of vodka lemonades to the point where Nicki confiscated her phone to prevent her from drunk texting Sam. Lauren wasn't a big drinker and wasn't normally one for clubs, but her bad mood had obviously gotten the better of her and she had gone a bit wild.
Picking her phone up from the dresser, she could see it was one in the afternoon. But what intrigued her more was a text that appeared on her home screen from Sam. She quickly unlocked her phone and opened her text messages. This was the first communication between the two since Lauren had text him to say she was on her way, the day they broke up
Happy Birthday. I wrote this for you.
Attached underneath was an audio file titled 'All Is On My Side'. Listening to the song, Lauren burst out in tears. The song only proved to her how well Sam truly knew her, and how in love with him she really was. The final verse broke her, Sam singing 'the time is now for me and you' made her realise that she truly had made a mistake breaking up with Sam and that her love for him was greater than any insecurities she had from instagram.
The girl knew what she needed to do. She needed to win her man back.
A/N I know All Is On My Side is an old song but lets just pretend he wrote it last summer lol! Also I had lost all inspo for this story so I hope this little bit of excitement will help me see more clearly, but equally, if anyone has any ideas for story points let me know!!
