'Low Lights is boring without you behind the bar.'

Lauren smiled at her phone. She had been constantly checking her phone all day for a message from the geordie singer who had so sweetly walked her home the night before.

'Who's that?' asked her friend Nicola. 'Just Sam' Lauren replied. But they all knew that this boy was so much more than 'just Sam.' Lauren had been telling Nicola and Dylan all about her encounters with Sam over the past week, and had rung Nicola to gossip as soon as Sam left her at her house last night. The girls were on the phone for over an hour discussing every detail of the walk home. Lauren made sure to explain in great detail how fit Sam had looked that night.

Just as she was about to reply, her phone pinged with another message from Sam.

'Sorry for not texting earlier, I've been in the studio all day working on the album x'

'No problem! Sorry I'm not in haha, having a night out with my friends Nicola and Dylan. I'm sure you'll have a good time without me there x'

Lauren smiled and put her phone back down on the table, taking a sip of her gin and lemonade. Her and Nicola were sat chatting in the Salutation in Tynemouth while Dylan was, or attempting to, chat up some bird at the bar.

'So... he finally text you?' Nicola asked. Lauren laughed, 'what do you mean finally? I only gave him my number yesterday.' She turned her phone and showed Nicola the texts from Sam. 'Okay I take it back, how sweet!.'

Lauren's phone pinged again.

'Big night out?'

'Not really, just in the Salutation. It's Dylans birthday so we're out for drinks, although he's spent most of the night chatting up a girl at the bar'

Speaking of, Dylan signalled over from the bar to ask if the girls wanted another drink. Lauren had probably had a few too many, but she hadn't had a night out since she started working at the Low Lights and it was her night off. Lauren rose her empty glass up and nodded over to say yes while mouthing 'make this one a double?'

Lauren heard her phone ping again to signal another text from Sam.

'We were thinking of heading Tynemouth way in a bit, Low Lights is a bit dead tonight. Would it be weird if we popped in? Don't wanna crash the party'

Lauren blushed at the thought of seeing Sam tonight before quickly checking her hair and makeup in her phone camera. She decided that she looked okay enough to see him, and showed Nicola the message.

'What are you gonna say?' Nicola asked. 'Well of course I'll say yes, but I don't want to sound too desperate yanno' replied the blonde girl. Nicola took the phone, typed a quick message and quickly flashed it to the girl for approval.

'Yeah come down if you want! See you soon x'

...

Half an hour later, Lauren was much tipsier than when she text Sam. Dylan had returned to a table with a smug grin, an extra contact in his phone and six shots of sambuca. Lauren kept glancing towards the door, awaiting Sam's arrival.

'You look far too keen' said Nicola, noticing Lauren's good mood and glances to see if Sam had walked in. 'Do you think it will put him off' asked Lauren, suddenly nervous of her demeanour around Sam. 'No I don't think so, he seems really sweet and like he's into you' replied her best friend.

Just then, the door to the Sal opened, and Sam walked in followed by Dean and Joe. He quickly surveyed the room before locking eyes with Lauren. She gave him a quick wave to show she had seen him, and a big smile spread across his face before he walked over with his bandmates walking behind.

Lauren stood up and gave Sam a hug hello, before turning to Joe and Dean and greeting them too. She turned back to the table introducing Sam, Joe and Dean to Nicola and Dylan while Nicola was giving Lauren suggestive smirks looking between her and Sam, making her blush.

'Right, who wants a drink?' asked Sam, looking at the table. Joe and Dean both nodded their heads, while Nicola and Dylan who both had full glasses thanked him and shook their heads. Lauren looked at her empty glass, turned to Sam and smiled, 'I'll come to the bar with you.'

The pair found a gap in the queue of people at the bar and waited for a bartender to come over to take their order. Sam turned to Lauren and said 'we went quite big at the Low Lights like, think we've all had a bit too much to drink.' Lauren laughed, leaning on the bar for support and replied 'I'm pretty pissed mate.'

Sam smiled at the drunk girl beside him and ordered drinks for the pair, as well as pints for Joe and Dean. Lauren stumbled slightly, a side effect of the gin and cocktails she had consumed over the past couple of hours. Sam reached out and placed his hand on her back to steady her, but when she was successfully stood straight he chose not to remove his hand. Instead his hand remained, and he said 'you look really pretty tonight by the way. It's nice seeing you not in your black Low Lights shirt.' It was true, Sam thought the girl looked absolutely stunning, hair curled to perfection in a mini skirt and low-cut top.

Lauren laughed at Sam and replied 'Thank you. I know, and it's nice to be on this side of a bar for a change.' The pair picked the drinks for the group up off the bar and walked back over to the table. Nicola and Dylan both seemed to be getting on well with Sam's friends and were immersed in conversation when they sat back down.

The whole group chatted away like they had known each other forever, laughing at each other's jokes and sly teasing of Lauren and Sam came from everyone at the table.

Lauren, who had probably drunk far too much, drunkenly leaned into Sams side. She seemed tired, and it was getting late. Sam noticed this and asked her 'do you want me to walk you home? You look shattered.'

Lauren looked up at Sam and with tired eyes nodded before turning to Nicola and Dylan and letting them know that she was leaving. Sam stared intently at Lauren, noting how adorable she looked when she was tired. This didn't go unnoticed by Joe who smirked at Sam and gave him a playful nudge.

The pair rose from the table and Sam pulled his jacket over his shoulders. Lauren, who had always been adamant that geordies never wore jackets on nights out was envious of the warm North Face that Sam had just pulled on. 'Bye lovebirds' said Dylan with a smirk, which was met by a middle finger from the blonde girl. The two waved goodbye to their friends who had chosen to stay for a bit longer and headed for the door.

The pair left the pub, but Lauren had changed her mind about wanting to go home. 'Do you want to walk down to King Edward's Bay,' Lauren asked Sam. The Salutation was less than a minutes walk from the coastline, and Lauren loved the quiet beach late at night. Sam nodded his head and smiled at Lauren, lacing his hand through hers to try and stop her drunken stumbling.

The two made the short walk to the bay and walked down the steps onto the beach. The two sat on the sand, it was a clear night, and the pair could see the stars clearly over the peaceful sea, but the lack of clouds made the night cold. When Sam saw Lauren shivering in her thin top he shrugged off his jacket and placed it over her shoulders, leaving him in his Umbro sweatshirt.

'How about I take you on a proper date soon? Just us two' Sam asked Lauren. She smiled and nodded at him, before replying 'I'd love that.'

The pair sat in comfortable silence, with Lauren's head leant on Sam's shoulder and their hands intertwined, staring out to the coast as the waves crashed into the shore. Soon after, they both silently agreed that it was time to head home, and Sam accompanied Lauren back to her house.

The two stood face to face outside Lauren's house, neither wanting to say goodbye. She knew her parents would be sleeping inside and so she would have to be careful not to wake them.

The tall girl shrugged off Sam's jacket and handed it back over before saying 'Thanks for coming tonight, it was really nice to see you. And thank you for walking me home.'

Sam smiled down at the girl and replied 'It's no problem darling, I'll text and we'll organise to meet up, just us two?'

She nodded her head, before reaching up and planting a kiss onto the boy's cheek. But, before she could pull away, Sam placed his hands on her cheek and softly kissed her lips. Lauren smiled into the kiss, and blushed as he pulled away.

'Goodnight Sam,' she said, before squeezing his hand one last time and turning her back to him to enter her house.
