Lauren was sulking behind the bar. You would think that she would be excited, as this was her last ever shift behind the Low Lights before moving on to her training contract, but all the girl felt was sadness.
The bar reminded her too much of Sam, who was currently on the other side of the world performing at festivals in Australia. She had gotten too used to being with him over the past few months, spending almost all of her free time with him, that she completely forgot that he would soon have to leave her to go on tour.
The goodbye was heartbreaking. She had dropped him off at the airport, he had showered her in kisses and 'I'll miss you so much's before disappearing up into departures. Lauren had sat in her car for a good half hour crying at the thought of him being so far away from her before wiping her eyes and driving home.
When 11:30pm finally rolled around, Lauren shooed the remaining punters out of the bar, cashed up and locked the doors. Nicola was waiting in the car outside to drive the girl back to the flat. They both sat in silence, Nicola could tell how much the girl was missing her boyfriend so decided against striking up a conversation.
When they got home, Lauren thanked Nicola for driving her home and headed straight to her room. She hadn't cried since dropping Sam at the airport, but being behind the bar she had met him in and which reminded her of him so much was too much for her. She began to feel hot tears rolling down her cheeks.
After around 10 minutes of laying in bed crying, Lauren's phone began to ring from her side table. She could see it was an incoming facetime from Sam. She quickly wiped her eyes, trying to make it look like she wasn't crying and answered the call to see his smiling face looking back at her.
'Hey' she greeted him, her voice slightly raspy from crying for so long.
Lauren saw his smile quickly turn into a frown. 'Nicki said you were upset, what's wrong? Have you been crying?'
She made a mental note to kill Nicki for texting Sam and telling him she was sad. The look of concern on Sam's face made her well up again, and she began to furiously wipe the tears from her eyes.
'It's stupid. I just really miss you. I know I'll have to get used to you being on tour but this is the first time you've been away, and you're literally on the other side of the world! Being in the Low Lights tonight didn't help either.'
'I miss you too Lauren. You should be here with me. The lads have been ripping into me for how much I've been moping because you're not here.'
This made Lauren giggle, she could imagine the banter back and forth between Sam and his friends that she longed to be a part of. 'Anyways' he said, 'I'm back at the end of the week. I'll see you so soon.'
'I know, I can't wait to see you.' the girl replied.
The two spent another 20 minutes talking on facetime, before Sam received a knock on his door, followed by a shout of 'Sam! Come on we need to go.' While it was past midnight in the UK, for Sam it was 10am.
'Sorry, I have to go' Sam frowned.
'It's okay, speak soon? Have fun, I'm so proud of you!'
She studied the thoughtful look on Sam's face, before the boy suddenly said 'I love you Lauren.'
The girl was speechless. The two had told each other they were falling in love with each other after Mouth of the Tyne, but the three words had never been uttered. Yes, the couple had only been together for a short amount of time, but they were practically joined at the hip and anyone could see they were meant for each other.
A worried look was spread across Sam's face, he too wondered if he had just uttered those three words a bit too soon, but his worried look disappeared as Lauren smiled and replied 'I love you too Sammy.'
The couple said their goodbyes and hung up the call. Lauren fell asleep thinking of the boy with a smile on her face, and Sam played his whole show with a grin on his face thinking of the girl waiting for him back home.
