Me and Conan are walking side by side heading back to Ran's house. It was all silent until we step out of the school gate, Conan ramble out his distressed.

Conan : Geez that professor. There's such a thing call moderation you know.... Now, we gotta be careful with these gadgets.

He started to complain about the event that happen in PE class just now to me. I just chuckle hearing him keep on complaining about professor gadgets.

We keep on walking for some distance when we see a silhouette of someone we know.

I look at Conan as he did the same. Sometimes I wonder if we actually have telepathy. We always did most of thing at the same time.

Anyway, we both nod and turn towards Oji-san and walk up to him. He doesn't seem to realise we're behind him. I see that Oji-san is following someone.

Erena : Is he shadowing that person.

That man wears a really long jacket and a pair of sunglasses with a beret. His face is somehow a bit hidden with all the beard on his face.

I see Conan open his mouth to call out to him, so I quickly shut his mouth with my palm. I look at him and I motion him to look far up front.

I somehow, thought how is this guy a detective. Most of the time, he never really did observe his surroundings.

I look at Oji-san hiding behind a pillar holding and pretending to read a newspaper.

I was too lost in my thought when I feel something wet or more likely licking my palm that send shiver down my spine. I withdrew my hand quickly, clutching it and look at the culprit only to see Conan smirking at me.

I can feel my face heating up and my eyes go wide. I stood there not moving as if I am nailed there while Conan went up to Oji-san. My heart is hammering inside me.

Erena : G-get a-a grip (Y/N)! H-he is j-ju-just messing a-around. Yes, yes. He is just messing around....

Conan : Oji-chan!

I snap out of my trance as I heard Conan call out to Oji-san. I am not that far away from them so I can hear them. But, for others, maybe not.

I see that as soon as Conan call him, it startles him making him flinch from the sudden call.

Conan : What are you doing?

Oji-san turn to him and motion him to keep it down even though Conan voice is under the volume.

Kogorou : This is work!!

Conan : Are you shadowing that guy?

I heard Conan ask. I walk up to them quietly while thinking 'Isn't it obvious already. But then a thought came to me and I snickered to myself.

Erena : Ahhhh! Clever! Pretending to be an innocent child with question.

Oji-san then started panicking and hold out his arms out to motion Conan to shut his mouth.

Kogorou : Aah, what if he hears you?! you're a bother. Go home, home. Tell Ran I'll be a while, so don't make dinner for me.

He said and motion Conan to go away. I am standing near them by now, but somehow, I feel like they didn't even realize I am there.

Erena : Do I have to go home too, Oji-san?

I said and for once they look at me, but they look like they only now realize I was there, especially Conan.

Erena : Okay.... That's really hurt.... Can't believe he forgot that I am here too. Why did I love this guy again?

I thought as I look at him disbelieving. I turn towards Oji-san and see that he looks a bit hesitant. After a while, he heaves a heavy sigh and come towards me, kneeling in front of me.

Kogorou : I'm sorry Erena-chan. But today you can't follow me, okay. I am doing my job now, so can you please go home, okay?

He said softly to me. How his voice is so soft when talking to me make me stun and can't help myself nodding to him.

Erena : Wait, no! Why did I agree? But, maybe because of the way he talks to me that make me listen to him. Is this how parents always talk to their kid if they wanted to convince them? If it is, how lucky Ran and Shinichi to have their parents besides them always.

I thought and smile bitterly. I guess that Conan sees the meaning behind my smile as I can feel he hold my hand and give a light grip. I look at him and smile thankfully.

Erena : Yeah.... Even if I don't have parents at such an early age, I still have Shinichi and his parents, professor, Ran and others.

Kogorou : HAHAHAHA!! What a piece of cake.

Kogorou voice can be heard all around his office as he excitedly counting all the money he got from shadowing a man. You, Conan and Ran stood beside the couch looking at him.

Kogorou : I got 500,000 just for following some guy for three days. I gotta get some more of these high-paying jobs.

Ran : That's great! You're finally getting some good work!

Ran said happily. These makes Kogorou even more arrogant.

Kogorou : Hahaha.... Finally, the rest of the society has noticed my genius!

Ran : You were so amazing in that last case, Otou-san.

Conan : Aah, what have I done....

Ran : And your work's have gone great ever since Conan-kun and Erena-chan came.

Ran said as she looks at both you and Conan. You just act oblivious to it as you pretend to do your schoolwork while Conan can be seen a bit startle at the sudden mention.

Ran : Maybe you brought us good luck?

Kogorou : Hey, how long do you wanna keep this brats? Are their parents still unavailable?

Kogorou ask making the both of you to start panicking in silence.

Ran : W-well.... I went to see Professor Agasa yesterday, but he said that Conan's parents did have left the hospital, but right after that they had to go overseas on urgent business and that they left two days ago to join Rena-chan's grandparents. And he also said that they would call when they got there.

Kogorou : So they're just going to stay here as long as they wants?

Ran : But, don't you feel sorry for them? They doesn't have anywhere to go....

Before Kogorou can replied, you went up to him and look up at him with your puppy eyes.

Erena : Can't we stay here longer Oji-san? I like to stay here with you and Ran-neechan.... You both awesome, especially you Oji-san!!

You said and cringe internally as you said the last sentence. Kogorou look down at you and contemplating for a moment. He then heave a sigh.

Kogorou : Fine.... They can stay as long as you take care of them!!

Ran : Okay!!!

You and Conan release a sigh of relief as both of your shoulder relaxing. You smile excitedly at Kogorou.

Erena : Yay! Thank you Oji-san!!

Hearing the excitement in your voice make Kogorou to smile fondly at you. This didn't go unnoticed to Conan. He looks at both Kogorou and you.

Conan : What is going on here? I've never thought that old man can look like that.... What is he thinking? I think I've seen this before, but not frequently.

Kogorou : It's like your parents and grandparents just threw you guys away.... I'd like to see them face to face....

Kogorou said then stop talking and get closer to Conan. He looks at Conan closely and observe every detail on his face with a hard expression. This makes Conan to sweat dropped.

Kogorou : Hmmm.... I feel like I've seen you before?!

Conan : Oh shit....

Kogorou : Musta been around the time Ran and that little girl, (Y/N) was in grade school.

You and Ran are oblivious to Kogorou and Conan conversation as you focus on *pretending* studying and Ran focus was all on you in case you need any help understanding *not like you need it anyway*.

Then a news popup on the television that catch everyone attention, especially Kogorou as his eyes went wide.

News : At 8:00 this evening the charred remains of a human being were found in the Yagura at the Himatsuri of the bustling tourist town of Akaoni.... From lost articles and such, his identity has been confirmed as Negishi Masaki-san, age 42!

Kogorou : WHA-?!

News : The police highly suspect it was homicide and are continuing their investigation....

Kogorou : WHAT WAS THAT?!!

Kogorou yell out to the television while shaking it front and back. You, Conan and Ran watch Kogorou action in confusion.

Kogorou : It is him.... It has to be....

Ran : What's wrong Otou-san.... Did you know him?

Kogorou : I knew him. I was right behind him for three days

Ran : Three days.... It can't be!!

Kogorou : Yes.... The one I was shadowing until yesterday.... Was that man!!
