Melvin looks at Shekki putting away his clothes in his closet.
"You are working hard, Shekki."
Shekki smiles. "It's nothing Senior."
"But...you are a noble, why do you do these things?"
Flinched. Shekki was not questioned before so she keeps doing it but she remembers this one fatal mistake…..she is a noble. The legitimate first born daughter. Should she lie?
She sighs. "I actually learn from seeing, Senior. I have nothing to do at home aside from studying. I always want to learn how to cook and work around the house."
Melvin smiles. "I thought you are getting bullied at home."
Shekki shakes her head. "Father dotes on me. It's fine."
Melvin sneers. "If he really does dote on you, I do not think your sister can bully you but I guess he can't even do that."
Shekki shakes her head. This era is different. Though men and women are said to be equal. There are still things a woman can't do. And other restrictions She really can't blame Charm's father. He is doing his best to be equal but there are certain rules in society that he has to follow. Shekki thinks that is enough to say 'her' father is doting on her.
Melvin sighs seeing Shekki protect her father.
"How about I buy some life longevity pills for you?"
Shekki tilts her head. "Why? I have my own points."
Melvin scratches his cheek. "Just want to give you something."
Shekki happily smiles and claps her hand. "My~~You are really very thoughtful, senior! I am actually troubled since there are many people in our family. Though, father only married my mother, he has four concubines and 2 of my paternal uncles lived with us with their wives and concubines plus my cousins.. I don't think my points are enough to cover them all." Shekki sighs.
Melvin frowns "Why would you give it to them? Do you like them?"
Shekki shakes her head. "No. But Senior, I am a noble daughter. I have to act one. I should give them all good things to show my filial piety."
Melvin sighs. "I am a lowborn so I don't really understand that. Anyways, I will buy you those pills."
"Thank You, Senior. You are the best in the world!" Shekki grins
"You often said that.. It seems there are so many bests in this world."
Shekki nods. "Of course! My Master and my Seniors are the best!"
Melvin chuckles. "You are so good at flattery. Is that also part of being a noble?"
Shekki nods. "It's part of the training."
Ordinary mortals who can't cultivate can also extend their lives through pills but it's not the same as being a cultivator/practitioner. They will still age but slowly and they can even reach 500 years old if they are careful. Longevity pills are expensive and often only reachable through cultivators. But high ranking officials and royalties have them for a huge price. Even royalty will not give these precious pills to their subordinates so nobles all dream to send their kin in the cultivation sect to have a glimpse of these tiny pills that might extend their mortal lives.
For the pill refiner, they know that Longevity pills will be more popular to disciples who have low cultivation and mortals without cultivation but their proud attitude will not let them sell it to the mortals instead they sell it to those rich low level cultivators. It's also not easy to make these pills.
