Harley's POV

"Where have you been all day? And What have you been doing? You look a mess." Rachel asked as I walked into the dorm.

"Thanks, Rocky." I joked, and she giggled and rolled her eyes " I was tending to my duties, naturally. Finally, I get to sit down for a second." I said, plopping down in the chair next to me. I knew I had to be vague when telling her what I was doing.

"I heard you pissed the boss off before he left," Tessa said as she picked at her nails obnoxiously. I hadn't even noticed she was in the room until she spoke. She was slippery, just like a snake. I didn't even understand how she got her information and why all of it was correct.

"I did." I nodded. It wasn't any of her business, to begin with, but it also wasn't meant to be a secret.

"I told you he was going to eat you alive," Tessa said proudly.

"Tessa, where the fuck are you getting this info?" Rachel said like she was reading my mind.

"Don't worry about it. All that matters is that I was right." Tessa smiled.

"Stop; she is doing great. She must not be that bad if the boss is still using her." Rachel answered back. The worst part about this whole thing is, I don't think sir has reached his breaking point with me yet. I haven't peaked his anger high enough yet. I haven't even been able to be "eaten alive by him."

"He is only using her for now. He'll find a more competent person for the job." Tessa scoffed. When Tessa rolled her eyes and scoffed, it reminded me of when Avery used to do that when we fought. I hated it before, but now I miss it.

"Like who? You? The boss has spoken a total of 2 words to you since you've been here." Rachel laughed. "He doesn't even notice you!" She said, "Harley has had more conversation with him in 4 days than you have in 6 months!" I wanted to snicker at her comeback, but the dialect between sir and I was far from normal conversation.

"Well, actually Rachel, we don't really converse. He just tells me what to do, and I just say yes, sir." I admitted.

"That's still talking, though." Rachel retorted.

"Just wait. You'll see." Tessa muttered, then began picking at her nails once again. I would love for someone to replace me; I would even be okay if Tessa took this job. Being a regular maid like Rachel sounded and looked better anyways.

"Breaks over. I have to get back now. I'll see you guys later." I waved to them, not waiting for a response but just walking out. My break wasn't exactly relaxing, but it was better than nothing.

"Try and finish early today so you can rest." A voice said next to me. It was Felipe.

"Okay, I'll try." I nodded

"You look a mess, and I'm sure the boss wouldn't like you fainting on the job," he said. I wasn't to the point of exhaustion where I could faint, but I understood what he meant. Sorting those files was proving to be a harder task than I initially thought.

"well, go ahead." He muttered, gesturing towards the steps to the second floor and walking away.

--------------------

I've been working for hours straight, and I only stopped to drink coffee. Although I'm not a coffee drinker, It helped alleviate my headache and keep me away all night. I drank it straight black with some sugar like; sir drinks it, and it's absolutely horrible. It tastes like bitter ass, so I don't understand how he enjoys it. So much for trying to finish early.

I got word from Felipe that sir will be arriving in less than an hour and the only thing I have left to do is label the most important files. I couldn't find a good way to label them, so they stood out from the rest, so I decided to draw small flowers on the top of each important file. I drew the ones I remembering seeing in Avery's garden in the back of her house. They were purple like lavender and grew in bunches. I tried to replicate them the best I could. They were cute and took away from the scary factor of whatever was in the files.

As I colored in my last bunch of flowers, I stuffed the papers neatly into the folder and moved to close it, but something on the sheet caught my eye. I knew I definitely wasn't suppose to be reading what was in these files, and I didn't even bother to scan over the words on these sheets of paper. The confidential papers always started with the word confidential, so that's how I knew not to read them; however, these papers looked different from the rest.

Unlike the other files stuffed to the brim with papers, This one only had four sheets in it. Like the other ones, the top of the paper did say confidential, but that is not what caught my eye.

"Daniel Miller," I whispered to myself as I read the top of the paper. My breath hitched in my throat for a moment. Why business did Daniel Miller have with Sir?

"Harley," A voice began. My stomach dropped as I immediately shut the folder and looked up at the office door that had been opened. I hadn't even heard the door open, nor did I hear his steps. I was too engaged in what I saw to realize him. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." It was Evan. He began as he walking into the room after shutting the door behind him. Why was he here? Most people weren't even allowed to step on this floor, let alone come in. I remembered what Felipe told me earlier, and I instantly became wearier.

"It's ok, but do you need something? No one is supposed to be in here but me." I said quickly, wanting him to leave before Felipe or even sir walks in.

"Oh gosh, I'm sorry. I'll leave now." He smiled widely.

"Thank you." I sighed out in relief that he didn't put up a fight or anything.

"But Harley." He said, turning back around and looking at me with a raised brow and a small smirk on his lips.

"Yes." I gulped. He looks so troublesome and untrustworthy. He gave off such a bad vibe that I couldn't help but panic a little.

"What were you reading just now?" He smiled. My heart was in my throat as he spoke. I closed the file so quickly I was sure that he didn't see anything. How did he know I was reading it? Would he tell, sir?

"It was nothing. Just something sir wanted me to take care of." I partially lied. I was never good at lying, and I'm sure he could see right through me.

"Oh, okay." He said, but he never stopped smiling. It was so fake and painted on.

" So again, not to be rude, can you please leave," I said, growing extremely anxious that he was still in the room.

"Oh yes, sorry. I'll go." He actually exited the room but no, before eyeing me the entire room. My anxiety subsided when he left. However, the uneasily feeling didn't. I don't know if I were more worried he'd tell the boss or that he'd do something bad towards me—either way, I had to finish and leave before sir got back.

I placed the last couple of folders in the drawer and quickly grabbed the keys Felipe gave me, and locked the drawer. All the files were in order, so sir should be satisfied with the way they look. I spent hours sorting the papers and placing them in their correct folders. Since I was still skittish from before, I left the office with quickness and rushed downstairs to my own dorm. When I made it back to my empty dorm, I plopped down on my stiff bed and sighed out in relief; however, what I had discovered on that file earlier and the fact that Evan caught me still lingered heavily on my mind. Why was Daniel Miller associated with the Riot cartel? Their businesses were worlds apart. They did not correlate with each other. It was is strange that sir has contact involving with him. I was dying to know more, especially if it involves Avery's family. I ached to know more.

With those thoughts swirling in my mind, I felt my eyes growing heavier and heavier before darkness took over me.

——————————-

"Harley! Harley! Wake up!" Someone said, shaking my shoulder roughly. I slowly opened my eyes to see what's all the chaos was about. Henry stood above as I laid in my pool of sweat.

"Henry," I said, rubbing my sleepy eyes and sitting up from the bed. I could feel how damp the back of my clothes was. I must've tired myself out and fell asleep.

"The boss wants to see you. Now." Henry said, looking at me frantically. My eyes widened as I let myself process the words, and I quickly hopped down from the bed onto the floor. Henry moved out of the way to allow me to move swiftly out of the room. With no hesitation, I rushed upstairs towards the boss with Henry, who followed close behind me. From the way Henry woke me up; it seemed urgent. My stomach was in knots as we walked closer towards the office.

We slowly approached the office door, and I took a deep breath before entering. Henry pulled the door open for me, allowing me to walk into the office. As I walked in, I saw sir pacing around the room with his hand on his forehead as if he was stressed out. He had on a black button-up and a pair of black slacks that fit him perfectly. However, after prying my eyes off the boss, I looked down at the floor to see all the files I had once organized scattered all over the floor messily.

"Harley." Sir growled once he has noticed I was standing here. "Come here," he yelled.

Harley completed her important task set by sir but something goes wrong. Tessa still isn't fond with Harley being around?

How do we feel about Evan walking in on her?

Is Harley in trouble?
