Harley's POV
After that day, I didn't see that man again. I've been here for almost a week now, but it feels like I've been here for years. The days pass by so slowly, and the only reason I know how long it's been is because of a tiny barred window next to the room I'm staying in. The same guys come in to check on me every day at almost the same time, so I always prepare myself before they come in. When they bring me food or command me to do something, I always nod or either say "yes sir" and "Thank you." Luckily I haven't earned any physical punishments. I haven't showered or been able to clean up at all. I used the water they gave me to at least rinse my mouth, but that only does so much.
I slowly feel myself going crazy staring at these walls all day. I keep trying to plan some magical way out, but the door is never open long enough for me to even move towards it. Plus, I can hear men outside the room constantly. They laugh loudly, and they sound drunk more than half the time. With the noisy men and uncomfortable floor, I haven't slept at all. So instead, I lay awake at night and think about my dad, brother, and Avery. It keeps me a little more sane just thinking about them.
When I woke up the first day, I found my broken phone had been taken out of my pocket along with my watch and earphones. It seems like they weren't taking any chances. My skin felt sticky and gross, and my hair was in a tangled mess. I peeled off my crusty hoodie a while ago, but I had to keep my jeans on since I had nothing on underneath. I also tied my hair up into a tight ponytail for the time being. Leaving it over my shoulders, only made me hotter since it felt like a blanket over me. It was hot and humid in the room, and I felt like I was suffocating.
As I began to fan myself with my hand, the door scrape open making me quickly shuffle to my feet. I kept my eye fixed to the floor, and my hands held into one another as I heard the clank of someone's shoes walking towards me. It was those strange feelings again. The atmosphere had shifted in the room, and I knew who it was now. I swallowed the lump in my throat that formed as the shiny black shoes stopped in front of me.
"Look at me." The man said, making me slowly look up to meet his eyes. Those piercing green eyes. His hair was laid messily on his head, and his black button-up clings to his body so nicely. I felt like a lunatic thinking about how attractive this man is. How could I possibly find my kidnapper attractive? " Starting today, you work here." He said, making my eyes widen.
I moved my mouth to speak, but I was quickly cut off by him. "I need a personal maid; my last one didn't work out." He said casually, staring at me. Work here? Personal maid? None of this was making any sense at all. I wanted to scream in frustration, but I couldn't manage to do anything but nod. I guess he must've known what I was thinking because a couple of seconds after he opened his mouth to speak again, "either that or be a prostitute. The house could always use more whores." He said seriously.
"N-no, I'll do it." I squeaked out quickly. I didn't know if he was bluffing or not; the look on his face was too somber. I didn't have the capability to be a prostitute, especially not for these men.
"Good girl." He breathed out, "You'll address me as "Sir" nothing more, nothing less. Henry will show you around and to your living counters. You don't serve anyone else but me. If you do what I say, then you'll be fine, but if you don't, I can easily kill you. If you try and plan up some brilliant way to escape, don't even try; the entire perimeter is guarded. You'll be dead within 3 minutes. I don't like cleaning up dead bodies, so please reframe from doing anything stupid-" He said sternly. As he spoke, I tried to follow, but the more they talked, the more frustrated I got. The hope at had was now slipping away more and more. The last little bit of determination I had now vanished. "You're not to leave this house. Your not to speak to anyone that I do not permit you speaking to," he said, and all I could do was silently nod. My head began to pound consistently. "Do we understand each other?" he asked suddenly. Again I only nodded in response.
"Open your mouth and speak." he all but growled.
"Y-yes w- yes," I stuttered uncontrollably. His eyes never left mine, making me even more nervous. I felt my body heat up in embarrassment and shame. He stayed silent for what felt like an eternity. I shifted my gaze away from him as I couldn't take his unbearable stare any longer. It was like he was looking straight through me.
"Henry will show you around," he spoke again.
"Y-yes, sir," I answered.
"Consider this a blessing, Harley. If it weren't for me, you'd be dead already," he finished before exiting the room without another word.
Without realizing it, tears spilled down my face as soon as he left. My mind was racing with so many questions and thoughts. I was so overwhelmed by so many emotions at this moment. I felt completely drained. My legs went weak, causing me to sink to the floor. I held my head in my hands softly, trying to comfort myself. I wanted nothing more than to see my family and Avery right now, and If I could go back in time, I never would've gone to that stupid party or told Avery to stop. I felt so much regret and guilt. A sob I was trying to suppress finally managed to escape from my mouth. I stayed that way for minutes until I heard steps coming towards me, but I couldn't manage to lift my head even then.
"It's time to go now." an unfamiliar voice spoke. I slowly lifted my head to meet a pair of dark brown eyes looking down at me. "Come with me. I'll show you around," he spoke again. I suppose his name is Henry since Sir did just tell me to expect him. He definitely didn't give off the same energy Sir did. Only by looking at him I could tell they were very different. Knowing that put me at slight ease.
"Okay." I squeaked out and began lifting myself off the ground; surprisingly, Henry wrapped his hand around my arm and helped me up to my feet. "Thank you," I said softly, averting my eyes away from him and pulling away from his grip. Although he is looking nicer than Sir, He still worked with him.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you." He said. I was shocked at his statement since I didn't expect him to address my hesitation openly.
"O-Okay," I said awkwardly.
"Follow me," he said, gesturing towards the door. I nodded and approached the door to exit. He followed close next to me as we walked down a suspiciously long dark hallway. Rooms occupied either side of the hallway.
I wasn't content with being someone's maid, but at least I was leaving this room. I wonder what sir meant when he said I would be dead if it weren't for him. Was I kidnapped just to be kilt in the end? It seems pointless, but I'm glad it didn't come to that. As we were walking, I noticed that I was in the basement of a house—a huge one at that. Henry led me up a flight of dark stairs, which made me feel a bit uneasy. I guess he must've noticed my uneasiness because he placed his hand softly on my back-- not too low as to make me uncomfortable-- encouraging me to continue.
"Don't worry, boss won't let anything happen to you. Just try and keep up." Henry called behind me. I highly doubt that seeming as he is the reason I'm here. "Here is the main floor," Henry said as we got to the top of the steps. This place was so big and luxurious. There were white marble floors and huge couches off to the side. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. Even Avery's house didn't compare. There were two flights of stairs on either side of the room that led upstairs. I noticed large suited men standing on both sides of the stairs. They stood straight and stiff with their hands in front of them. They showed no emotion at all, nor did they, even more, look at us as we walked towards them.
"They are the boss's bodyguards. Don't be alarmed if you see them." Henry spoke nonchalantly as we walked past them. All I did was nod in agreement, but in my head, I was panicking. These men looked nothing like normal bodyguards. They weren't the kind of bodyguards you would see a celebrity stand by or security protecting a famous singer from a crowd. "I'll show all the designated areas on this floor." He said, interrupting my thoughts, which I was slightly thankful for. I kept following him as we walked through a large corridor towards the back of the house.
The walls were all black marble with gold streaks in them. It was absolutely stunning. After walking for a couple of seconds, numerous white and gold doors leading off into rooms appeared. All of them were closed shut, and some even had padlocks on them. I can only imagine what type of stuff was in those rooms. We passed by those doors, but Henry didn't address them at all. "W-What are all those other rooms?" I asked a little above a whisper.
"Those doors are only opened by the boss. You don't need to know or see them unless the boss allows it, and he won't." Henry replied without any hesitation. I knew he would give me a vague answer, but again he was very blunt about it. That reply was enough to convince me not to ask any more questions. Although it appeared like all the doors were closed, I soon learned one was not. The room had double doors, and I could hear a voice coming out of it before we even reached it. Once we made it to the door, Henry halted his step, making me stop with him.
"This the entertainment room." He said, pointing towards the room that I heard all the commotion coming from. The door was only cracked so that I couldn't see anything clearly, but I managed to make out a poker table with men sitting at it along with two women dressed in short, worn-out dresses sitting on their laps. "No females are permitted inside, so stay away," Henry added shortly after. I raised my eyebrow in confusion as I had just seen two females in the room just a second ago. "Something wrong?" Henry asked
"W-well, I see some woman in there already," I said softly, pointing towards the door.
"Yeah, I know, but they are different. It's their job to entertain hence why they are in the entertainment room," Henry said nonchalantly. My eyes slowly widen as I realized what he was trying to say. I felt my heart break a little, just imagining how they are treated and what they have to do for these men. "Don't think about it too much. Come on." he began walking further down the hall. "This is the meeting room, which I'm sure you will go in eventually." He said but never stopped walking, "And this is the kitchen." He continued quickly as walking into the biggest kitchen I'd ever seen. It looks like an entire restaurant kitchen. Large pots and pans hung from racks along with utensils and strainers. I stared, stunned at a small short older woman cooking away fiercely on the gas stove next to me. The smell of herbs and bread filled my nose as soon as I stepped further in. My mouth watered at the smell. All I've eaten in the past week is mushy cold rice and unseasoned beans, so the smell alone was enough to make me go dizzy with desire. "They will prepare the food, and you'll come in here and take it directly to Boss. He doesn't eat a lot, but he does drink a lot of coffee, so either way, you'll be seeing a lot of this kitchen." Henry said. I would've never expected that sir didn't eat much since he is a huge tall man. "Next, We have your room. It's shared with three other maids, so don't get too excited." Henry said, gesturing to a door off the side of the stairs. I pulled the door open, slowly revealing two bunk beds, followed by a bathroom and closet. "You'll meet the other maids later." He said, exiting the room and immediately turning up the steps. "Come quick," Henry called after me making me pick up my pace. Once we made it to the top floor, I was baffled by what I saw. There was a large pond in the middle of the common area and rooms leading off the side. There were large columns separate from each door. It was beautiful. There was one single room at the very top of the hall that stood out because the door was massive. "That's the boss's office." Henry said, "Get used to it. He's in there a lot. His room is just off to the right." He said, pointing to the door. "Not many people are allowed up here." He added.
"How come?" I asked, raising my brow in confusion
"The boss is private, and he only trusts a handful of people." He said. It wasn't shocking, but if sir was so private, why did he make me, a complete stranger, his maid. Why not choose someone he knew? Also, what was so personal about his business that he could only trust a small group of people. "Anyways, my room is on the opposite side, and Felipe's is right next to mine. You will meet him later." Henry finished. "So that pretty much concludes the tour. Any questions?"
Yes. I had so many questions. My mind was filled was questions. However, the questions I wanted to ask him were too straightforward. I also knew that if I asked a question, he would only answer vaguely or not at all. I learned my lesson after I asked him a question the first time.
"No. I'm good," I replied
"Alright, so the boss is away, but he should be back shortly. I'll walk you back to your room so you can get settled before he arrives."
"Ok. Thanks, H-Henry," I stuttered, making him offer me a weak smile, which he kindly offered one back. Finally, I will have the chance to be alone and less uncomfortable so that I could collect my thoughts. —————-
We learned some things about the place Harley is begging held in, and we learned a little more about this "Mystery man" or "sir."
Impressions on Henry and sir?
