"Today is is show and tell in Liam's school and he forgot the drawing of his dad at home. And he's having a meltdown at school." I say removing my coat balancing the phone on my shoulder.
"Well go get it," Midge says sounding amused by the situation.
"I know but I have to leave work and I have a few appointments this morning and I don't know what to do." I sighed closing my office door.
"Parenting is easy but you'll have to pull through." She starts. "Your number one priority is Liam so you go get that picture and take it to him."
"Yes, I will," I say with determination.
"Good are you done ranting cause I need to rant?" She says in a breath.
"Yeah sure." I put my Bluetooth on so I'll be able to listen to her and drive. "What's the problem?"
"Yesterday, I was with Theo and he said he had a surprise which made me excited cause as you know I love surprises like the time you and Shelly threw me a surprise birthday par-"
"You're going off-topic." I cut her.
"Yeah, thanks but anyway I was really excited which made thinking of all the things he could possibly do to surprise me but my mind was blank because I was so excited and I didn't expect wh-"
"Get to the point Midge." I cut her from entering my apartment.
"Right. Sorry. Anyway, he dropped a bomb." She says not sounding so excited. "We are having a baby!"
"What?" I asked taken back at what she just said.
"With another woman." She finalizes.
"Another woman?" Okay, I'm confused. I check the bedside table for any pictures but I don't find anything.
"I know." She sighs. "I'm just mad at him but he claims it was a drunken mistake months ago before we met but I don't know."
"Ah hah." I smile picking up the drawing. It was on the kitchen table.
"What?" She asked confused.
"Oh, not you. I just found Liam's drawing." I say heading out f the house. "But regarding Theo, if he says it was a drunken mistake then maybe it was and with the timeline, there might be a possibility. You met him five months ago so she should be at least five months pregnant. Ask him how far she is into the pregnancy and if it's anything less than five months call me."
"Thanks for your help." She lets out a sigh.
"I'm glad to help." I smile even though she can't see me. "But I have to go."
"Yeah, make sure my little artist shows and tells his masterpiece." She says sounding gleeful.
"Bye." I hung up after she replies.
I head to the door and open it,
"Ah!" I scream looking at the person in front of me. "What the hell are doing here?"
"I came to visit my son," Ethan says calmly too calmly.
"Well he isn't here and I need to go to get out of my way." I try to push past him but he pulled me back.
"I know." He leans closer to my face. "I want you to take me to him."
"No way," I say ignoring the feeling of his minty breath against my skin. "I need to go and you need to leave and never come back."
"I could get lawyers." He pulls away smirking. "Very good ones."
"Look, I have a son having a meltdown because he forgot his drawing for show and tell and I need to give this to him," I said moving closer to him. "For the last time get out of my way."
I brush past him and this time he doesn't do anything. I smile internally for not falling for any of his charms but it quickly fades when I hear his voice.
"Why is my son having a meltdown?" He asked walking in front of me to stop me from walking away.
"Our son is having a meltdown because he forgot his drawing that he was going to present for show and tell," I explain walking past him and entering the elevator.
"We need to also discuss his name." Ethan rushed into the elevator. "Liam King just doesn't sound right."
"But Liam Harper does, doesn't it," I smirk looking at his face fall.
"He better have my last name." He said seriously. "He's a King and he should wear it with pride."
"Jeez, I'm joking," I say. "What's so important about being a king."
"A lot of things baby doll." He smiles. "A lot of things."
The elevator stops and I walk out with Ethan trailing behind me like a lost puppy. I sigh knowing deeply that he isn't going to leave until he gets what he wants. I walk to my car but I see he is still following me.
"Halt!" I turn to face him making him stop his tracks. "Where do you think you are going?"
"I'm following you to see my son." He shrugged and tried to walk past me.
"No." I correct him. "You are going back to work and never coming back here."
"Why can't I see my son?" He asked looking at me in the eyes.
"Because I don't want him to be hurt." I spit at him.
"Or you don't want to be hurt?" I knew deep down he was right but I was too afraid to take any chances of him being in my life again. "Don't be selfish, baby doll."
"I'm not being selfish I'm being protective," I argue. "I don't want you hurting you like you did to me."
I saw the regrets in his eyes. He didn't bother to hide it this time. It looked like he wanted to tell me something but he couldn't.
"Look, all I want is to spend time with my son. To make up for every second I lost. He is my priority." I knew he wasn't lying. I don't know if it was the way he said it or because Liam deserved it but I ended up saying,
"Fine." I sigh. "Don't let me regret it."
"You won't." He promised giving me a smile that reminded me why I was in love with this man.
I open the door of my car and see he is still standing there smiling. "Are you coming or not?" I shouted before I entered.
I didn't need to repeat myself. He was in the passenger seat before I knew it. I start up the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
"So we are going to drop off this drawing and you'll drop me at my office." He said strapping his seatbelt.
"I'm not dropping you at your office," I say.
"But my driver is going back to my office." He points out. "And I can't use public transport."
"Fine," I mutter. He always knows the right card to play.
"Tell me about Liam." He says leaning back into the seat. "I want to know him."
"Well, he is very smart. he picks ups things easily from anywhere so you have to be careful where you are taking him to. He loves dinosaurs. I mean I have to cut his pancakes into them unless he won't eat them." I chuckle a bit. "And he loves to draw. He loves it so much he draws all the time. He could draw any event that happened in a day. I might even have to get a larger fridge."
"It's okay." I felt a hand wipe a tear from my eyes. I didn't even realize I was crying.
"I'm sorry." I wipe my tears myself. "His teacher says he doesn't know how to express his feeling but I think she's wrong. I mean he draws. That's how he expresses himself."
"If you think their judgment is wrong we can always draw him out," Ethan says seriously.
"No, it was difficult to get him to adjust to this one. He has already made friends here I don't want to go down that road again." I sigh.
"If you change your mind you can always call." He said holding my hand and giving it a tight squeeze.
"Come on." I pull my hand away from his. "We got to get this to him."
We both climb out of the car and walk into the school. I lead Ethan to Liam's classroom. I see some other parents are here to support their children. His teacher notices me and walks towards us.
"I'm so glad you could make it. I made sure he went last so you could make it on time."
"Thanks." I smile at her but she looks up to Ethan in awe. "This is Liam's dad."
"Nice to meet you," Ethan smirks knowing she recognizes him. He stretched out his hand.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. King." She accepted it hesitantly. "I'll go get Liam."
"Mommy!" Liam shouts running to me.
"Hey, little monkey." I bend down to hug him. "I brought your drawing."
"Thank you." He says taking the drawing from me.
"Now go do your presentation." I smile at him standing up.
He ran to the front of the classroom and got everyone's attention. Ethan pulled me closer to him which made me let out a soft gasp.
"Today I'll be showing everybody a drawing of my daddy." He start raising the drawing so everyone would see. "My mommy said that I don't have one but it's okay because that makes me special and I'm surrounded with love so that fills up the hole. I would really love it if my dad comes back so I can meet him and mommy can be happy again and make more pancakes! Thank you."
He took a bow as everyone clapped. I wiped up the tears that fell during the presentation. I didn't think he would remember all those things I told him. What touched me was the fact he thought I wasn't happy.
Liam ran up to us and hugged me. "Did you like it, mommy?"
"Yes." I smile wiping of the tears. "I really like it."
"Then why are you crying?" He asked confused.
"Remember when I said people cry when they are happy?" He nodded. "I'm happy."
"And you love me." He finishes.
"And I love you." I smile. I turn back to look at Ethan and he had a lot of emotions flashing in his eyes but the one that withstood most of them was pride.
"Well done." He said smiling at Liam.
"Thank you, sir." Liam smiled up at him.
"Aunty Mia is going to pick you up later okay?" I pulled his cheeks lightly.
"Yes, mommy." He said and I let go of him. He ran back to his seat.
Ethan and I left the classroom and headed out of the building. None of us said anything to each other.
The drive to his office was pretty quiet. The only thing that you could hear was the radio playing. It wasn't awkward we were just both deep in our thoughts.
"Come over around seven," I say to him before he leaves the car.
"I'll be there." He said and shuts the door.
I just hope I'm not making a very big mistake. -------------------------------------------------- 🎆🎆Happy New Year!!🎆🎆
