Ethan's POV
I have a son.
It's still shocking. I can't believe it.
I run my hands through my hair in frustration. I pick up the shot glass in front of me and take a sip from it. I really should not be drinking at work but I can't help it.
This is unbelievable. I can't believe that I have a son. This is too much to take in. Four years I'm gone and the next thing I know is I have a son.
I pour more vodka into the shot glass and drown it at once. Five days ago I would have been planning on how to take her on a date and tell her I made a mistake but with all this, she's the one that's should be telling me she made a mistake of keeping a huge secret like that from me.
I don't even know his name.
What kind of father doesn't know their son's name?
My office door opens to reveal Nicole.
"What are you doing here?" I asked annoyed. I really can't deal with her judgmental comments right now.
"I met her?" She says sitting down. She puts her bag on the chair next to her.
"Met who?" I asked internally groaning.
"Dora." She says as if it's not a big deal. Why can't she could bring up anybody her?
"And why would you do that?" I asked leaning forward.
"Because I wanted to." She shrugged. "I also think she's cool."
"Good for you." I give sarcastic smile. "Now if you'll excuse me I have work."
"You're not going to ask me anything about that?" She asked surprised.
"No." I look back at my computer.
"What's bordering you?" She asked.
"Nothing," I say opening an email my assistant sent me.
"So your drinking during work hours for nothing?" She crossed her hands leaning into her chair.
"And you're visiting my ex because you feel like." I point out smirking.
"Touché." She nods. "But I only visited her because I wanted to see what made you want to get her and I totally understand because she's changed for the better and I also understand why she wants nothing to do with you."
"What are you talking about?" I asked leaning into my chair.
"Dora is not the same woman you left four years ago. She has gone through public embarrassment and heartbreak. You stood her up on her wedding day. Do you think she want anything to do with you right now?"
"But she could have told me we had a son?" I ran my hand through my hair in frustration.
"Which wasn't easy because she couldn't be around you at the moment. She probably wanted to tell you later." Nicole defended. I honestly don't know why she's defending her.
"I missed four years of my son's life. Fuck, I don't even know his name. How the hell do you think I feel. She doesn't want me to know him or be around him. She doesn't want me in my son's life!" I snapped at her.
"You didn't tell me that." She said taken back at what I said.
"I know. I didn't want you to try and fix this." I sighed. "I want to fix this myself."
"I'm sorry." She looked down. "I thought you only found out you had a son I didn't think she'll ask you to stay out of his life."
"I'm scared," I admit looking outside taking another gulp from the bottle this time. "I don't know anything about being a father and the timing couldn't be worse. I have enemies. Lots of fucking enemies that would do anything to get rid of an heir."
"And they wouldn't get you because you are Ethan Vincenzo King." She smiles taking my hand. "They are only trying to get under your skin and don't let them."
"Easier said than done." I sigh. "Once they realize I have a son, they would do anything to get to him. I can't let that happen. What if they kidnapped him? What would I say to Dorothy?"
"Nothing because they won't." She says. "You are stronger than all of them. You are just being paranoid."
"Thanks." I smile at her. She always knows what to say.
"Now if you would excuse me I have to meet up with someone." She stands up taking her handbag with her. "And be nice to your sister. Just explain what happened."
"Yeah." I nod at her looking back at my computer.
"Good." I hear her say with the sound of the door closing after.
I look at the bottle of vodka and toss it in the bin. I have bigger problems to deal with than sulking over the fact I have a child. I need to find out if any of my rivals know I have a son.
I start focusing on the business deal I got from the company that I think might help us keep my profit consistent. Since I left my father wasn't running the company as I did and we suffered a few loss but I think I can bring everything back on track.
I hear a knock on my office door and I groan. "Come in."
"Sorry sir but your sister is waiting and she causing quite a scene." My assistant says.
"What do you expect Sarah, she's pregnant." I sigh.
"Should I send her in?" She asked.
"Well, it depends if you want the commotion to stop and keep your job." I look back to the letter I'm reading.
"Right sir." She nods and steps out. I wonder what happened to Samantha and how Sarah got the job.
The door flies open. "What the fuck happened to Samantha and how the fuck did she get the job." A very angry Mia walks in slamming the door behind her.
"Just like you read my mind but if I must remind you, this is an office," I say standing up to help her.
"I don't need your help." She slaps my hand from her.
"Well, thank you for agreeing to meet up," I say sitting beside her on the couch. "Do you want something?"
"I want to kill you does that count?" She smiles sweetly.
"I'm feeling the love" I mutter under my breath.
"What happened what took you so long?" She asked opening a chocolate bar she got from her bag.
"I had to stay longer." I look at her. "I swear I didn't plan to."
"You said you'll leave for months not four years." She snaps. "Do you know how hard it was for me to lie to her, pretending I didn't know where you were?"
"I'm sure it wasn't as hard for you to keep the fact that I had a son." I snapped back.
"It wasn't my place to tell." She said taking a bite from her bar.
I don't answer her. I grab a bottle of water from the coffee table in front of me.
"Dad is disappointed you know." She avoids my gaze.
"I do, but it's wasn't my fault," I say. "I needed to know if it was safe enough for me to come back. I didn't want to risk putting anyone in danger so I waited until Francesco was dead."
"I understand and I think Dora would if you explained this to her. I know she would." She sighs taking another bite.
"I don't want her to be worried about possibilities of someone taking our son or being paranoid over little things. I want her to live a normal life. A life without fear. That's why I want her left in the dark."
"But you'll have to tell her eventually." Mia smiles at me.
"Eventually, when it is over," I say smiling back at her.
"What about Liam?" She asked looking out the window.
"Who's Liam?" I asked a bit confused.
"Your son. His name is Liam"
Liam. I like that name. But Liam King. Sounds weird.
Lorenzo King.
That sounds better.
I'm brought out of my thought when Mia slaps my arm.
"Earth to Ethan." She smiles.
"What did you say?" I asked.
"I asked if you'll ever tell Liam about the Mafia." She took another bite.
"I don't know." I sigh. "I mean he's the next heir so a lot of rivals would target him if they find out he's my son."
"That's why you need to tell Dora about this?" Mia said looking at me seriously. "She needs to know that a lot of people are going to target her son. She needs to be careful."
"I know and I will but right now I just want to get to know my son and live normally until I have a plan." I need to tell Luca all about this, we need a plan.
"I hope you'll have enough time to do all this but you also need to be careful." She sighs.
"Thanks" I smile.
"Anything for my little brother." She pulls me into a hug squishing my cheek.
"Your little brother is not so little anymore." I groan pulling away from her.
"I need to go and pick up Liam and Jojo from school." She stands up giving me the rest of her chocolate bar.
"No, you need to rest." I point out.
"I'm pregnant, not sick you idiot." She snaps walking towards the door. "And besides I need to do something."
"If you say so." I sigh standing up.
"But remember, you have limited time to tell Dora." She says with her face straight. "And don't run away this time."
"I won't." I smile at her.
"Good." She smiles back. "Oh and say hi to Nicole for me."
"I would," I say then she leaves the room.
I sit back down on the sofa with only one thing clear.
Limited or unlimited time, I want to know my son.
