AN: I noticed I made a mistake in chapter 1! The names of the three older brothers are Alessandro, Axel and Xander while the younger ones are called: Drake, Vito and Olly.
Lila's POV: I awoke to Melissa shaking me awake. Grudgingly, I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and sat up. We were outside a large rectangular building with a porch. The garden on the front was beautiful, and there was play equipment that Lila didn't recognise. Overall, the orphanage had a cheerful vibe- quite different from last time. "This is as far as I go, sweetie," Mellie said, pulling my cheeks even though she knew how much I hated that, "call me if you have any problems and I'll see you whenever, ok?" "Yep," I replied, popping the 'p', "See ya, Mells!" I waved and entered the establishment. I clutched my papers and automatically built my walls up and hid my emotions behind the mask. I was greeted with a long polished hallway with doors lining the walls with gleaming doorknobs. I heard shrieks of laughter and smiled. Yes, the orphanage had definitely changed. Still smiling, I approached the largest door and knocked before hearing a gravelly voice boom, "Come in." Upon entering the room, I saw a well-built man sit behind a mahogany desk. He held a cigar in one hand and wore an expensive suit and a gold watch. He reeked of arrogance and pretentiousness, and I held my head a little higher. Looking into his soulless black eyes, I felt myself involuntarily recoiling slightly. "Sit," he said quietly, and I obeyed, "what do you want?" I put the papers on his desk and recited the lines I've said many times, "My name is Lila, and I am 14 nearly 15 years old. Ever since so was 3, I've been going changing foster families due to... certain situations. I used to reside here many many years ago. Here are my papers." The man nodded and scrutinised the adoption papers. I silently prayed that he would let me stay. Finally, he nodded, "these seem to be fair in order. I am Mr Woods. Your room is number 210, but you don't have a roommate. Thank you and have a nice day," he looked down, and I took this as a gesture of dismissal. X Alessandro POV: I sat at my desk and groaned. For the past few weeks, our supplies and meetings had been disrupted by an unknown source. They would slip in, kill everyone, steal out stock and slip out. I'd asked our Allies- the Russos and the Serpents- for help, but they were dealing with their own problems. My two younger brothers- plonked themselves onto the plush black couch on the opposite end of the room. The office was rectangular with cream walls and a desk in front of a large window. Pictures were lining the wall: one of all my brothers standing next to my parents with the widest grins on our faces, one of Xander's 16th birthday (which ended badly, don't ask) and- our favourite- one of our baby sister, just hours before she was taken. It's your fault, my conscience whispered, you should've realised something was wrong. I told it to shut up. Axel slumped in his seat and ran a hand through his messy dark hair, "I'm exhausted," he proclaimed. Xander hummed in agreement, "These disruptions are not good for business. The employees are calling them 'The Shadows,'." I frowned, "Really? How do you know that?" Xander smirked, "Unlike you, I actually talk to people rather than glare and intimidate them." I huffed in annoyance, "I do not." "You do," all my brothers chanted back. Drake, Vito and Olly had entered the room. Olly sat cross-legged on the floor and began happily eating his burger while the others stood over him. My phone rang, saving me from embarrassment, "Who is this?" "Capo," one of my men said (A/N: I don't know Italian and I'm getting my translations from Google translate. If I have put anything wrong, please correct me!). "Seth," I greeted, "why have you called me?" "We have a lead." I sat up, erect. My brothers looked at me in confusion, but I didn't care. After so many years, we have a lead, "Where?" "California," Seth replied. I growled in frustration, "Goddamit man, where in California?!" (AN: I haven't been to America so idk what it's like... I'm imagining a random place and using that! Sorry if it's not accurate!) "We don't know," Seth said, "looks like someone powerful is covering their tracks. It took a long time to get this information." "Well, find more!" I barked and ended the call, gritting my teeth. "Are you okay?" Drake asked. The rest of my brothers were also shooting me worried looks. Apart from Olly, he kept eating his burger. "We have a lead." Xander and Drake looked up, giving me their full attention. Axel had his keys in his hand, as if ready to go and retrieve her. Even Olly stopped eating his burger.
"Well? What are we waiting for? Let's go find our baby sister!" Xander, ever the impatient one, looked ready to leap up at a moment's notice. Automatically, our gazes drifted to the picture.
"Seth said that she was in California-" I began but was interrupted by Drake.
"Let's go. I'll drive," Drake stood up and went to the door.
"Just wait," I said, "and don't interrupt me, again." They may be my brothers, but I do not tolerate disrespect or disobedience.
Drake sighed and resumed his earlier position. My siblings all stared at me; we had the same green eyes, apart from Olly- he inherited our mother's blue ones. It was slightly nerve-racking to have them all looking at me, but I hid my discomfort, "We don't know exactly where Lila is, however."
Simultaneously, the boys huffed in annoyance and rolled their eyes. I understood their ire and vexation. After almost 5 years, we finally have a good lead, and it doesn't narrow things down.
My phone rang again, and I picked it up, "What?!" I snapped in frustration.
"Capo, some man hasn't been paying what he owes us," one of my men said, not even fazed by my tone.
"Send me the details."
"Already done. Buona giornata," he ended the call, and I narrowed my eyes slightly; as childish as this sounds, no one hangs up on me. (Have a nice day)
"Drake and Vito," I said, "Some man isn't paying the debt. Go and warn him."
They nodded and left the room. One by one, the others left, and I was alone with my thoughts- which is rarely a good thing.
End.
