Sanem had the taxi driver drop her off at Ayhan and Osman's house, she wasn't ready for the questions she knew her anne would ask if she saw her tear streaked face.
Ayhan held her friend in her arms as she cried and told them what had happened and how Can had treated her. She could see by the look on his face that Osman was getting mad. She almost didn't tell them about him grabbing her arms but she did and Osman's face turned red.
"He is a bully, Sanem!" he said "I don't know how you can still love this man."
"I have made a lot of mistakes, I wish I had done what you said in the beginning and told Can the truth then maybe he would be able to trust me now. But, you know how much family means to me and I was afraid if I told him about Emre, it would cause trouble between the two brothers and I couldn't be the reason they didn't speak to each other."
"What about your trust in him? Is it ok for him to question your actions while he has his old girlfriend staying at his house, or he flirts with women in front of you." Osman was upset "And you telling Can about Emre wouldn't have been the cause of trouble between the two brothers, Emre did that all on his own. The sad thing is Can found out and was still mad at you. And every time he doesn't get his way he threatens to leave."
"I know but understand why he leaves, he is afraid of being left behind." she said.
"Sanem, quit making excuses for his bad behavior. Yes, you did some bad things but you didn't know the truth and were used by someone that you thought was a better person."
She nodded her head and then continued her story about what had happened at the mountain hut.
When she got to the part about giving the cream to Polen to prove her point, Ayhan laughed.
"I hope it stunk on her." she laughed.
Sanem laughed also "I believe it didn't smell quite as good on her."
"What are you going to do?" asked Osman, he didn't want to hear anymore about Can at the moment.
"I am going to have to find a new job. I can't continue to work at the agency even if he leaves, there would be too many memories there." she stopped and sighed.
"I think it would be best for you to get away from it all." said Ayhan.
"I wish I could just go somewhere and work and write my novel, but I can't afford to move away. I mean I have saved some money, but I still need to pay the agency back my loan and most of what I have saved I would spend on transportation and finding a place to stay until I found a job."
"I will give you the money if you want to go." said Osman.
"I agree, you need to get away from Can. Maybe if you leave him he will see you as he does others who have left him or maybe it will wake him up and he will see how much he truly loves and needs you." said Ayhan.
"I am not sure he cares enough about to me to be hurt if I leave, maybe it will be a relief."
She cried even harder, she had always thought of Ayhan and Osman as family and they had always been there for her "I don't know what to do. I just can't take your money!" she said.
"Sanem, I have saved a lot of money from the modeling jobs and now the butcher shop is getting busy."
Ayhan laughed again "Yeah, all women hoping he will ask them out but he isn't over the snow queen." she rolled her eyes.
She shook her head "I still can't take your money."
"First of all, you are not taking my money, I am offering it to you. If it would make you feel better about accepting my offer then let's say it is a loan. We can do this, I will pay off your work loan and give you enough to be able to leave and live for a couple of months. This would be a loan from me and you can pay me back instead of the agency."
"Sanem, think about it. You would no longer be under their control, if you don't owe them any money, they cannot try to force you to stay and work there." Ayhan said.
Sanem thought for a long time then Ayhan spoke up "Do it! What have you got to lose? Anyway from what you said, Can may take a job with Polen and leave, so why don't you leave first!"
"You may be right if Can is going to leave with Polen then I should just leave first."
"I think you need some time away from him. I understand why Can has guarded his heart and feelings all these years but right now I want to beat some sense into him." said Osman. "I believe he really loves you and he is afraid but that doesn't give him the right to treat you the he does."
She thought for a moment "If I do this, I want to leave tonight so that my parents don't try to stop me. You know they would never let me leave." she said.
"I agree if your Anne has a clue that you are thinking this way she will lock you in your room and stand guard. " said Ayhan.
"I need some clothes and other things if I am going to go. What will I tell them when I go home to pack?"
"I will go with you, we will think of something on the way."
"I will have the money ready for you and you can leave as soon as you get back."
The two girls rushed out and ran to Sanem's house, when they opened the door her anne was standing there with a smile on her face, shaking her head she asked "What are you two up to now?"
"We are going to go upstairs and go through Sanem's clothes so that we can give them to the less fortunate. It is one of my new projects." answered Ayhan. "Do you think we can have some bags or boxes to use?"
Mevkibe looked at the two girls and shook her head again, "There are bags under the kitchen sink." she turned and walked toward the living room. "Don't make a mess."
The girls grabbed some bags and ran upstairs.
"That was quick thinking. What made you tell her that?" asked Sanem.
"I knew we couldn't walk out of here with luggage or everyone in the mahalla will be calling your anne asking what we are doing?" Ayhan smiled "This way, we walk out with a few bag, take what you need the most and leave the rest, and then when we get to my house I will give you some luggage to use." Sanem hugged her friend, she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, she pulled it and showed Ayhan that Can was calling. Her friend looked at her with questions in her eyes. Sanem shook her head and turned the phone off.
They started gathering Sanem's clothes, she made sure she packed the items she used to make her creams and to write in her journals. She placed the white feather pen in her bag, took down the albatross poster, quickly wrote a note and placed it on her pillow, looked around her room then with tears in her eyes, turned off the light and walked out.
She yelled at her parents that they were taking her old clothes to Ayhan's and then they ran out the door. Ayhan took a deep breath when they made it to her house.
"I was so afraid your anne would ask to see what's in our bags." she laughed. They walked into the living room, where Osman was sitting with a couple of suitcases. Sanem arched her eyebrow "Ayhan text me that you would need luggage." he said.
She placed her items in the luggage and then Osman loaded them in the trunk of his car.
"Well, I am not sure where you want to go or if you really wanted to leave a way for Can to follow you." Osman said as he handed her an envelope.
"What do you mean?"
"If I get you a plane or train ticket, Can will be able to go to the station and find out where you purchased a ticket to. Then he would know where you are headed."
"I don't think he will try to find me, he is going with Polen, so I am of no worry to him." the thought of this saddened her. "I am not even sure where I want or should go."
"You are going to take my car and you can do one of two things, keep the car for a while or leave it somewhere I can go pick it up."
"Throw a dart at a map." Ayhan said.
"Which would you prefer?"
"I would prefer you took my car and kept it until you decided where you really want to be. I don't need the car and Ayhan doesn't drive so you can keep it as long as you want." he stopped "This way if something were to happen and you needed to leave quickly you have a way."
"Osman, I don't know what to say." she cried.
"Here is a map, take a look at where you would like to go and then get started. You can't tell either one of us where you are headed or where you end up, because I don't want to lie about knowing where you are."
Sanem ran and hugged her friend, "I don't what to say or what I would do without either one of you. But, I think I will just pick a direction and drive, I will know the place I need when I see it. I need a place to get my heart stitched back together, a healing place."
He handed her the keys "There is enough in there for you to find a decent place to stay and have money for food and other essentials. You will need to find a job soon as possible so that you don't use all the money in case something happens. Make sure you put this in a safe place and make sure you put some away in case of a emergency."
"I wish." she started to say and stopped.
"What? What do you wish?" asked Ayhan.
"I wish you would go with me." she said to her friend. "I am afraid to go by myself, afraid someone will see I am alone."
"Ah, Sanem" she answered and hugged her friend.
Osman was standing back from the two girls deep in thought.
"Come back in the house for a minute, please" he said.
The two girls followed him and sat on the couch waiting on him to say something.
He sat down, looked at the two girls and laughed "You two have always been trouble together. I have gotten you both out of more situations then I want to say. I have covered for both of you with your anne. She is our anne also, she has loved us and has taken care of us as if we were her own. I know she wouldn't forgive me if something happens to you, knowing I helped you leave. I don't think I could forgive myself."
"You are her own, she loves you the same way she loves Leyla and me." said Sanem softly.
"I think, even though, I shuddered at the thought, that you might be right." he stopped "It might be better if the two of you went together. At least, that way, if something were to happen then one of you would be able to call me if you get into trouble and need help."
Ayhan was speechless, did her abi really give her permission to go with Sanem. Sanem screamed and jumped up and down.
"Since, Ayhan is going with you then you will only own me back half of what I give you but I am going to give you more because it will be more expensive with the two of you."
Both girls jumped up and hugged Osman, all three had tears in their eyes.
"Go pack, Ayhan." he said. When the girls came back he handed Ayhan another envelope with money. "Please, use your money wisely."
He took Ayhan's suitcases and placed them beside the others in the trunk.
They all hugged "Make sure you keep your phones charged, understand?" both girls nod yes. "And check in with me regularly. I want to hear from one or both of you every day. And call me when you arrive at your destination so I can tell your parents you are ok."
They nodded in agreement and then got into the car. Sanem drove off with both of the girls waving and Osman standing shaking his head, wondering if just did the right thing. He watched until he could no longer see the tail lights of the car and then went in and went to bed. Tomorrow was going to be a hectic day, especially dealing with the Aydins and Can.
