Can was going crazy, Sanem text and even called a couple of times but she hadn't invited him to any more of her book readings, she hadn't said if she was coming back to Istanbul. He didn't know what else to do, he knew she needed time but he needed her. She just didn't know how much he needed her. He had tried to call her earlier but it went to voice mail and he had left her a message but still hadn't heard back.
He walked down to the coast, their rock, the place they had fought, laughed, even cried. How many times had they sat on that rock trying to work through their problems. They had even talked about getting married on these rocks. He was worried that she would never want to be with him again, scared that he had screwed up so much that she wouldn't take another chance. He felt more alone now then he had ever in his life, since Sanem and her family had entered his life he finally found a home, a family. He must have sat there for hours, the afternoon had turned into evening, he finally stood and walked back to his truck. Maybe it was time he just moved on. He could sail around the world and maybe find some solace. But, he knew that wouldn't help, he would always be looking for Sanem where ever he went.
As he was starting the truck, his phone rang, he looked at the number, it wasn't Sanem but Ceyda, he couldn't understand how this woman couldn't get the hint that he wasn't interested. He thought about how she was trying to insert herself in his life, always showing up at the agency or calling to ask him to meet her. Every time he had either had someone else deal with her or had declined all offers she made. She had even started coming into the agency with Huma, if she only knew that put him off more. He let her call go to voice mail and drove home. When he walked in the door he was shocked to see Emre there sitting with Ceyda. He wanted to just walk into his room and ignore her but he was afraid she would follow him inside. He hated aggressive women and she was the worse.
"Emre, Ceyda" he said, he looked over at Emre with a what the hell look. Emre just shrugged his shoulder.
"Ah, Can, there you are." she said "I have been waiting for you, I tried to call but it went to voice mail. I thought we could have dinner and discuss the campaign." "Ceyda, I have told you several times that Deren is handling your campaign."
"I know, but I want you to work with me on the campaign." she stood and placed her hand on his arm as she pouted. "Even Huma feels that we should be working together." He removed her arm and stepped back, which pissed her off. She huffed out a breath.
"If you are not happy with the campaign I can talk to Deren but I am not going to work on it with you." he stopped to look at her with anger in his eyes "If you think you are making points with me by hanging with Huma you are dead wrong, I want nothing to do with her or anyone she uses." "If you refuse to work with me then I am afraid I will have to take my account somewhere else." she said as a threat, if she only knew what a relief that would be to Can.
"That is your choice. You have every right to take your business elsewhere." He answered, his phone started to ring, he looked, what perfect timing. "I need to take this call" he walked away.
"Sanem" he answered as he looked at Ceyda, she was obviously pissed off that he took the call from Sanem and was ignoring her. Can looked at Emre, pointed at Ceyda and the door.
"Ceyda, let me walk you out." Emre said and handed her her coat.
Can started to walk out to the garden but stopped "Ceyda."
"Yes, Can"
"Please do not come to my home uninvited again." He then turned to walk outside but turned. "If I wanted you here I would have asked."
He walked into the garden "Can, are you ok?"
"Yes, why do you ask?"
"I was concerned since who ever you were speaking to you did not seemed to be very pleased with."
"Ceyda, showed up at the house, the woman has no clue or self respect." he took a breath to relax "Are you doing ok? I was afraid when I hadn't heard from you that you changed your mind about us meeting up."
"Can, I told you I needed time." she stopped and thought, here we go.
"I know but I." he stopped, he had promised not to push her and here he was doing it again. "I'm sorry it has been a rough few days and between Huma and Ceyda trying to interfere in my life, I am about to lose it."
"I am sorry I haven't been able to take your calls today, it has been crazy here also." he could hear the smile in her voice "They want to publish my book in America." she sounded so excited.
"That is wonderful" he said but he felt defeated, if she went to America he would lose her for sure.
"Thank you, I am excited."
"Will you have to do a book tour there?"
"I don't know, they haven't said anything about that but then again I don't speak English so it would be harder for me to do readings." she stopped and took a breath "I have one more reading and this book tour will be over. I am ready for it to end, I am ready for a little rest. I am tired but it has also been fun and I have loved meeting my fans." she giggled "It sounds funny to say my fans."
"Ah, Sanem, you deserve all this. Your book is wonderful even if it was hard for me to read and finally understand what you had went through"
"I am headed home to rest for a few days. Then I have to write one more book per my contract so I may just try to think of ideas. I thought about writing about my adventures leaving Istanbul."
"Home as in Istanbul?"
"Ah, no. My home now."
"Well, it sounds like a good plan." he suddenly wanted to get off the phone, she was moving on without him.
"In three days, I am in Erzurum." she paused, she wasn't sure if she was ready to see him again but then maybe it was best to see what would happen if they met again. She didn't want to wonder about the what ifs, like her new friend Mihriban had.
"I was wondering if you would like to come and meet me?"
"I would love to meet you, do you want to meet for dinner again?" he answered quickly.
"I was hoping you would come to the reading?" he couldn't believe it, finally.
"I would love that. Are you sure?" "Yes, I have a room for the night before, I am meeting Mihriban for dinner. I also have a room the night of the reading. So I was thinking we could have dinner after the reading. I can text you the information."
"I would love to." was all he could say. They talked for a few more minutes then hung up. He had a huge smile on his face when he walked back into the house.
"Well, well, that call must have be good from the smile on your face."
"Yes, I am going to meet Sanem at her next book reading." He didn't want to think too much of these, she could be saying goodbye as well as saying she would like to take a chance. To finally start to feel whole again would feel amazing. If only she would only take a chance on their love again.
