(Song on the next slide) it's pretty amazing!!
I was up early today, and there was no way in hell I was going back to sleep again so I decided to make the boys breakfast. I had this amazing Spanish omelet recipe, I didn't make it often, given the obvious housing and no food situation but I had always seen the cooks make it at the club back in London and I had picked it up pretty easily.
I put on some music and started making the breakfast, as I put the waffles in the iron my mind started to wonder back to the past week, things have been going well. I've been getting closer to all of them, Dante the most, because he is the closest to my age, and he probably is the only one who doesn't get a gun out every time I take a guy's name, which isn't very often but still...
Now don't take this the wrong way, the guy does have a murderous look in his eyes at every mention of a guy but he controls it a lot better than the others. Things have been going well with Marco and Alex, they always try to hang out with me after dinner.
Xavier has been more attentive but we haven't yet gotten the time to actually have a one on one conversation so it's hard to say where we stand right now. There has been progress with Luca, not completely good but we're getting there.
It was around 7:30 when everyone came downstairs already dressed, while the eldest two looked fresh and ready for the day, the youngest three looked like literal zombies. And I am in no way exaggerating.
"You made breakfast?" Alex asked and I nodded placing the plates full of bacon on the table and going to get the omelettes I had prepared. "You know you didn't have to do that. And this is all so much, how long did it take you to make it?" I shrugged to him, I didn't actually think about.
But it had to have taken me longer than usual as I was also jamming out to the songs playing. As everyone took a seat I came back in with the last plate that had the waffles and a coffee pot in the other hand, as most of us liked a strong cup in the morning.
"Oh hey,I remember this song. God I used to listen to it all of the time when I was 14." Luca said with an amused and reminiscing look on his face. "Lucy in the sky with diamonds? I didn't know you were a fan of this kind of music." I replied, Luca honestly didn't seem like a person to enjoy this genre.
"Oh I don't usually listen to this kind of music but you know, this has my name in it so..." I almost spit my coffee out at that. "What?" "Well when I was young they called me by 'Lucy' as a nickname and when I heard this song I became so fucking excited that it had my name that I used to listen to it all the time." Luca further explained.
Oh god. He really did think the song was about someone named Lucy. How the hell can someone like him be so confused. I looked towards Xavier who just shook his head at me, telling me not to flip his life right now. But I just smiled back and turned to my other brother.
"You do know that the song isn't about someone named Lucy." His face fell at my statement. "What do you mean? It's about some pretty girl." Dante replied just as confused as Luca. And looking at his face I guessed that Marco had also been kept in the dark about this little detail.
"The song isn't about a girl, it about drugs." When they didn't say anything more I explained myself further. "It's about LSD, Lucy (L) Sky (S) Diamonds (D). The whole song is about psychedelic visions you get after taking LSD."
The three were just stuck there, mouths open eyes staring of into the distance "Great, now you broke them." Xavier commented but given how he only looked up from his food for only a second I'd say he wasn't too concerned.
I just ignored the three coming to what I wanted to ask my elder brother. "So I was thinking. When do I get to go down to the basement?" Everyone stopped eating staring at me as if I was crazy.
"Oh come on. I know about you guys and I know for sure that the basement is some kind of base for your work with you know people tied up to chairs while you get information out of them. I wanna see that. It's been way to long since I had the proper chance to torture someone." I pouted slightly. I missed it.
"Why the hell would you want to do that?" Alex asked with a shocked expression on his face. "Wow, it took you a week to forget who I am. I am a fucking assassin, I gutted a guy at 14. So yeah I enjoy this fucked up shit. Now, when do I get to do that?"
Alex looked back to Xavier with wide eyes almost as if screaming at him to say no. Xavier held eye contact with me. After what felt like forever, he inhaled deeply and spoke "Fine, you can come after school, but you don't get more than two hours down there." I almost squealed, almost.
I was so fucking happy to be doing this again. Now again, I wasn't a sadist in any means but I just liked hurting people who were bad, like rapists or sex traffickers. Those fuckers deserved to be burned on a fucking stake.
After getting the twins and Dante out of their existential crisis, the four of us drove to school picking up Elijah on the way. The day actually was pretty boring but I was still pretty excited about what was waiting for me at home.
I had told Elijah and to my total surprise he said 'Okay.' He was super chill with me wanting to beat up a couple of guys, which I was thankful for. I honestly didn't want him to be creeped out by me but as it turned out we're both pretty fucked up expect with me it's more physical while with Elijah it's his crazy psycho stare while his mind is doing crazy things.
Now was the final class for the day. Art. This would probably be the first art class I attended when I'm not super pissed or depressed, after the whole family talk with my brothers I had actually started to feel a lot better and that meant no more depressed paintings.
Maybe for the first time in a long long time I would actually make something happy. Once everyone settled in and the second bell for the period rang, the teacher stood up, starting to explain today's assignment.
"Hello students! Now today is a special assignment. One that counts for 50% of your grade this year. You don't have any specific topic but you are to draw a piece within class time." She said turning to look at a particular group of kids who usually took their work home but never actually submitted it.
"Now you can use whatever method you want. The canvases are already placed on your table. You can use a picture as reference. One rule is that it has to be coloured so no sketches. And one more important thing. The painting I like the most will be posted outside the class for a whole week."
I didn't really pay attention to that part. I didn't really care if she displayed mine or not. I just wanted to paint. I quickly got my material, deciding to go with acrylics. I hadn't decided where I was going to take the painting but had started anyway. Letting the brush lead the way.
Five minutes in the class had gotten quite except the scratching of pencil on paper or a brush being cleaned. Then suddenly the sound of the door being opened echoed through the class, like everyone I looked back to see who it was, and my heart did that weird fucking skip it always did when I saw him.
Ace Alvarez, there he stood in all his glory dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and black t shirt under an unzipped hoodie. His bag hung from his left shoulder, his eyes found me, a small smirk falling onto his lips. I just shook my head turning back to my work, trying to fight the smile threatening to appear on my face.
He dropped his bag by the free seat next to me, going up to the teacher who handed him the supplies, telling him that there was no specific topic for today but he needed to hurry it up as he was already late to class.
A few minutes in I tried to sneak glances at his painting but before long he caught up and hid his painting pretty well but from what I got he was making a portrait. Focusing back on my painting which I barely finished in time but I was pretty happy with my results. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows but compared to other paintings recently it was certainly happy in a subtle way.
(Kate's painting)
I didn't get a chance to look at Ace's painting before he handed in the painting all I saw was the satisfied yet slightly shocked look on our teacher's face.
Exiting the class, I went to the restroom to get cleaned up before walking up to Leigh, my brothers would still take a little while so I decided why not have a chat. And I was in desperate need of some girl friends.
We had known each other from history but haven't yet had a chance to talk properly, while Leigh and I were talking about how heartbroken we both were at Neil's death in the dead poets society, I saw Elijah running up to me.
"Kate, have you- ha- hold on a second." He stopped trying to gain his breath back. Once he got his breath back he spoke up again. "Have you seen the painting that was put up today?" They put it up already? "No, but I'm surprised it's already up. Why? Whose is it?"
Elijah didn't say anything just grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards the direction of the art room, Leigh following behind as well. As we reached, we saw a crowd gathered around the glass case supposedly holding the painting that is going to be featured for a week.
I pushed through the kids gathered there and what I saw knocked the breath out of my lungs. Oh my god. He didn't. Oh, but he did.
I honestly couldn't believe my eyes, turning back to the other two, almost as if to check weather what I was seeing was true or not. But Elijah just nodded back. He didn't have playful smile he usually did whenever we talked about this.
Because this unlike fantasy land was real, for literally the whole world to see. I am sure he didn't know that his painting was going to be put up otherwise I am pretty sure he wouldn't have drawn this. Oh, forget this, why the hell did he even draw this in the first place.
He hadn't signed it, but the name plaque underneath it was enough of recognition. Ace Alvarez. The bastard made this painting. I need to talk to him, I mean I should right. Yes, yes of course I should.
But the ringing of my phone cut me out of the reverie I had, looking down I saw Luca's name flashing across, signalling that they were here waiting for me, but what about Ace? As if hearing my inner thoughts Leigh approached me, seeing my brother's name on my phone she turned to me.
"Go home, you can talk to him later, we don't want to keep your brothers waiting. And this'll give you time to actually think about what you want to say to him." See this, this is exactly why I needed more girl friends. Shooting her a grateful I went to the parking lot getting in the car, my head still spinning with thoughts from what just happened this last period.
He drew that. He drew me. A portrait of me. Of all the people he could have chosen he fucking chose me.
Why the hell would he do that?
