The area turned pitch black.
No one could see who was where or what they were doing.
"What?"
A raspy voice was heard through the rain sending shivers down the spines of the assassins.
"Never seen a ghost before......" The voice chuckled.
*thunder*
A bolt of lightning struck again revealing a figure with half ripped clothes and dark green eyes glaring at them.
It became dark again and only the sound of the rain was heard.
The men stood with their feet rooted to the floor unable to move. They were focusing on the direction of the cliff with bated breaths.
It was their first time seeing a ghost or monster or whatever it was. Even though they were killers by profession, they feel the fear seethe under their skin after seeing the dark figure.
"Ugh.."
*thud*
There was a strong smell of fresh blood in the air.
"Wha..??!" exclaimed the assassin's leader
*thud* *thud*
There were groans heard from all sides.
*thunder*
"Oh my god" exclaimed Gurgie, his eyes were as wide as saucers from the shock. He could see green eyes shine in the darkness like a predator sizing its prey.
"!" Gurgie gulped.
Although he couldn't see its face he could feel that it was looking right at him.
The figure stood holding one of the assassins under its feet. Blood was dripping from the blade in its hand.
"Kill it!" shouted the assassin leader.
*thunder*
He could see it charging like a beast in between the lightning flashes slicing through the air. It was going on a rampage, tearing down everyone in its path.
*thud* *thud* *thud*
In a matter of minutes, nine of his men were on the floor.
It jumped in the air and caught one of the last remaining assassins in the neck between its thighs.
It strangled his neck by rotating in an anticlockwise direction and landed on the ground.
*thud*
Now the only ones left were Gurgie who was trembling on the floor and himself.
"AAAAAAH" Gurgie's scream was heard in the darkness.
At that moment, the rain stopped and the place became eerily quiet.
'What is going on? Are ghosts real?' The assassin leader's eyes quivered.
He stood petrified and unable to think. The stench of blood in the air was stronger than ever.
*thunder*
"AAH" He flinched back.
The ghost stood before him, inches away from his face.
"Where are the masked men?" It asked, its eyes fuming in rage.
"They left" He answered unconsciously, intimidated by the pressure.
"Who were they? What organization do they belong to?"
"I don't know..."
"Really?" It asked again, tilting its head to the side.
"They were sent by the client. All I know is that we were supposed to attack and stall the carriage the Frost Knights were escorting until they arrived"
"That's a sad thing" It said, bringing its face close to his.
"Wha...What?" His eyes wavered.
"You're not as useful as I thought you would be... tsk"
Without further ado, Angelica punched him in the face with her fist.
The assassin's leader fell to the floor with his eyes rolling backward. His face was entirely covered in blood as two of his front teeth popped out. He rolled on the floor, groaning in pain and unable to move.
Angelica stabbed him in the arm with the Third Eye's knife she had.
"Ugh" He groaned.
Soon he fell unconscious from the blood loss.
It was over.
Angelica had escaped her fate of being killed as a cannon fodder. But still, she cannot return to the Frost mansion. Because if she were to return now, it would strain away the flow of the novel.
And there are high chances of the snake-masked men returning to attack her again and finish the job.
"Damn it!" Angelica seethed in anger.
She had expected assassins from the Third Eye organization to attack her. But the ones that did, were on a different level compared to them.
"Ughhh..." Angelica heard a light groan coming from behind her.
It was Sir Tate. He was struggling to keep his eyes open as the blood on his eyelids was hindering his eyes and making his view hazy.
Angelica sheathed her dagger back on the belt and kneeled beside him.
"My lady" Sir Tate called out.
"You're safe now" She whispered, wiping the blood from his eyes.
"I'm sorry I couldn't help sooner"
'Because if I did, the situation could have turned worse than it was now. That lunatic would've killed everyone if I didn't follow his words'
Angelica stood up and looked at the sky. The rain had long stopped and the skies were starting to clear. The moons were peeking out from between the clouds, revealing their presence to the world.
"Thank you, grandma. Thank you for making me into who I am today" Angelica said, kissing the dollar of her necklace.
"I don't know what I would've done without your guidance"
She walked back to the assassin's leader and searched through his clothes. There was an identification tag and a bag full of gold coins.
'Bad guys sure are loaded'
Angelica threw away the tag and took the money. Then she stripped him off his robe and covered herself with it. Her clothes were damaged far beyond repair and she needed something to cover herself until she could reach the nearest town.
Just as Angelica was about to walk away, she suddenly remembered something.
It was a flash of memory of the scene from the novel.
Edward wanted to propose to his true love, Helen, in a romantic and passionate way. He took her to the top of Mount Zion, where lovers pledged themselves together for eternity.
Edward escorted Helen to the edge of the cliff. To not ruin the surprise, he had her eyes tied with a ribbon.
The sky was full of stars, and the weather was perfect.
When he removed her blinds, Helen opened her eyes to find thousands of lanterns floating in the sky. It was a magnificent sight.
Edward had arranged for them to illuminate the sky that night.
"Do you like it?" He asked her from behind.
"Yes" Helen answered, turning towards the sound of his voice.
Her eyes went wide when she found him standing on one knee with a ring in his hand.
"Will you marry me?" He asked in a sweet voice to the astonished Helen.
"That f*ckin dumpster trash!" Angelica howled, clenching her fists.
'He proposed to her where I freakin' died!'
Angelica felt the rage in her grow stronger than ever. She has never felt such a strong emotion towards anybody before in both of her lives.
In her anger, she kicked the assassin leader in front of her. He was no longer in a state recognizable to anyone.
'Maybe I should just go and kill him' She debated reaching for her dagger.
"No! That b*startd isn't worth my time" Angelica muttered under her breath.
She didn't want to waste her only way out to kill the abominable male lead.
"Ughh.... I'm sooo mad right now" She grunted holding her head.
'I have to calm down. The world thinks I'm dead. And I shouldn't risk being exposed because of rash decisions made in anger'
So in order to lead a peaceful life, Angelica took a rational decision.
'I'll kill him the next time I see him...... AFTER the book reaches the ending...he....he....he..' She smiled menacingly.
Before leaving, Angelica took a look at the carriage.
Following her orders, the maids did not get down from the carriage. Throughout the mayhem, they didn't even dare to take a peek.
'At least they're not hurt' Angelica smiled wryly.
'That's one less trouble'
Angelica disappeared into the night after taking one last look at the knights.
Angelica got down the mountain following the pathway through the trees. When she reached a mid-point she found a group of dead assassins and some Frost knights scattered on the pathway.
Contrary to their adversaries, the Knights weren't dead, just unconscious from injuries.
'The Frost knights sure have a long life'
From the looks of it, they seemed to have run into the handsome lunatic, who decided to just leave them for fun without killing them.
Angelica looked at them with astonished eyes.
'That is an insane amount of luck' She moved past them still unable to believe her eyes.
'Wish I had some too'
Leaving them, Angelica continued on her path till she reached the bottom of the mountain.
