THE QUEEN looked at me strangely, "Greek?"
I nodded, "Yes, Greek. It's not a common language in this part of the continent but it's used by some." I just hope it's not who I think it is.
"Well, what does the letter say?" she asked.
"Do you have a piece of paper and something I can write with?" I asked looking around her desk.
"Oh! Yes, I do!" The Queen reached into the drawers of the desk searching franticly for my requested items, "Here you are."
She handed me a notebook with brown leather and a pencil. I took the chair which was nearest to me and pulled it up to the desk. I sat down on the chair and opened the notebook to a random page, and then I started to translate. I wrote down every letter, every single word in English.
Queen Aria watched over my shoulder as I translated. Once I was done, I set the pencil down and read the translation.
"Inhale. Exhale. It all means well. To find your King, you must dwell. The journey of learning, what it means to fully trust, you must stand in to the glass temple of lust. He is still breathing. His story is not over. To find him, you must search the city of the clover."
"It's a poem?" The queen asked.
"No, it's a clue. His takers are making us go on a scavenger hunt for the king." I explained.
"Who could this be? What do they want?" The Queen infuriated questioned.
I racked my brain on who this could be. The kidnappers are sending us on a goose chase for him, but why. They use letters to communicate with us and speak Greek. Only so many people would go through this kind of trouble and effort for some dumb reward.
"Okay, there are only four groups I can think of that would do this." I began, "Xemteki, Gladpon, Glahmeel and Thrinfexe. Each group is from a different Kingdom."
"Are they cults?" Aria asked.
I shook my head, "More like rebel organizations."
"Oh. Where do they originate from?"
"Xemteki is an organization that has existed for hundreds of years. They came from the kingdom of Lorechester, ruled by King Theo and Queen Kaycee. Xemteki is a big group, but they could care less about causing trouble unless they needed something. If your kingdom or King Kole has something that they want, they would hesitate to take him."
"Okay, what about Gladpon?"
"Gladpon is newer. It's only been around for a decade, but they are dangerous. They are from the kingdom of Haerford ruled by King Fynley and Queen Elena. Once the group began growing, they were banished by the King, but that doesn't mean they don't have moles placed with the kingdom. They are sloppy and aren't very organized. I doubt it was them that took King Kole, but they could always surprise us."
"That's interesting." Aria hummed.
"Glahmeel is a bit older than Gladpon, but only but a hundred-year roughly. They are from Withall, ruled by King Affan and Queen Aizah. They are made up of the criminals that the King and Queen banned for life. They focus on strategizing, and because they are made of criminals they are very bloodthirsty."
"Oh great," Aria huffed, "What about the last one? What was it?"
"Thrinfexe." I sighed heavily, running my hand over my face.
"Why do you sound so worried?" Aria asked.
"Thrinfexe is the most dangerous group out of them all. They are the smartest, strongest, and biggest group out of the other three. They tear down everything in their way and don't care whose lives they have to take to make their wants happen. Thrinfexe is from the kingdom of Laventhorpe."
"Laventhorpe?" The Queen gasped, "B-but the kingdom of Laventhorpe i-is-"
"I know. The Kingdom of Laventhorpe was demolished all those years ago by Thrinfexe. They burned down the pillars and staus of the kingdom. Slaughtered the royal family, women, and children of the Kingdom and took their men in as slaves to do their laboring. Just to kill them later. If they took the King, we are in trouble." I explained.
"Oh my god." The queen gasped.
"We best pray to the Gods that he wasn't taken by them." I sighed. A few beats of silence passed before the Queen spoke again.
"We need to find out what that clue means." she sighed. I looked at the page again.
'Inhale. Exhale. It all means well. To find your King, you must dwell. The journey of learning, what it means to fully trust, you must stand in to the glass temple of lust. He is still breathing. His story is not over. To find him, you must search the city of the clover.'
"The city of the clover," I whispered. Why does this sound so familiar. "We need new eyes on this. Do I have your permission to allow a couple more people?"
She nodded, "Yes. As many people as you need to. Who do you need?"
"I need Evander."
She nodded and alerted her guards who stood outside the door. She requested him to come to her office. Till he arrived we continued to try to decode the letter. We waited for a couple of minutes till we heard footsteps.
Evander opened the door and walked into the room, "Mother, you sent for me?"
She nodded, "Yes, Aislin needs your help."
Looking up from the notebook, a grim look appeared on his face as he looked over to where I saw him sitting. I simply looked back down at the pages.
"What work do you do?" I asked.
"Excuse me?" He asked me, confused.
"I asked, 'What work do you do?', and don't make me repeat myself ever again," I repeated. I looked up from the notebook again at looked at Evander. He seemed confused and annoyed by my question.
The queen huffed, rolling her eyes, "For the palace dear. What work do you do in the Palace."
"Oh." Evander started, "I help in the Kingdom's archives. We keep the records of over kingdoms and the maps of our continent, why?"
"I was about to translate the letter we got from your father's kidnappers. Here read that," I handed him the notebook and watched as he quickly skimmed the page, "I think that the clue has to do with a place but I can't think of anything."
"The city of the clover-" Evander mumbled. "I know this. Why can't I remember it?"
"I couldn't remember either, it sounds so familiar," I admitted.
He took in a sharp breath and read the page over and over again. 'It all means well. To find your King, you must dwell. The journey of learning, what it means to fully trust, you must stand in to the glass temple of lust. He is still breathing. His story is not over. To find him, you must search the city of the clover.' What could it mean?
Evander suddenly looked at me wide-eyed, "Why didn't we think about it before?"
"Think about what?" I asked.
"City of the clover! What Kingdom uses The clover to represent their kingdom?!"
That's when it hit me. At the same time, we both yelled, "Aberystwyth!"
The queen looked at us strangely, "Huh?"
"The page says, "Inhale. Exhale. It all means well. To find your King, you must dwell. The journey of learning, what it means to fully trust, you must stand in to the glass temple of lust. He is still breathing. His story is not over. To find him, you must search the city of the clover," He recited, "The city of the clover, is the nickname for the Kingdom of Aberystwyth. Their Royal Crescent is a clover."
"What about the rest?" Aria asked, looking at him intently.
"In the Kingdom of Aberystwyth, they have a public library and garden also know as the glass temple of lust." He explained.
"-you must dwell. The journey of learning, what it means to fully trust, you must stand in to the glass temple of lust." We need to go. How far of a trek is it?" I asked.
"A few day's worth, at most. But it will take at least a week to prepare and we don't have the right men for the job on hand." He said.
"We have to start making preparations for our departure right away. As for the men, I know of some that will suffice." I said standing up from the chair.
"What? No!" Evander said suddenly.
I looked at him with a challenging look, "Excuse me? No, what?"
"You have to stay here. It's dangerous and you also have an army to train." He tried to explain, "That's a lot, you-"
"I am going to need you to shut your trap before you dig yourself a bigger hole." I smiled sweetly, "I am coming, whether you like it or not. You're the prince, the one who needs protection, not me."
I walked away from the desk and towards the door, but stopped next to Evander, "You should be less concerned about what is dangerous, and more about who is dangerous. Remember which one of us has killed men and woman with their bare hands." He looked me in the eye knowing I was talking about myself.
I smiled sweetly and walked out of the room.
