The origins of this story can be traced back to Treta yug, Ayodhya.
Prabhu Sri Ramchandra, Dashrath putr, stood near his chamber's balcony.
After completing all of his responsibilities in this mortal world, he concluded that it was finally time to depart for his celestial abode, so he called his brothers Bharat, Lakshman, and Shatrughna and asked them for any last wishes, if they had any.
When the right opportunity presented itself, Lakshman expressed his desire to be the elder brother in the next birth.
Bharat appeared sceptical, but asked that he and Shatrughna participate in the next dharm yudh in place of the other two.
Shatrughna requested to be with Bharat so that he could serve his elder brother in the next birth.
Prabhu Ram granted them their requests and assured them that he would lead Bharat in the following dharm yudh, which was set to occur at the conclusion of the Dwapar yug.
Detailed Version :- Chapter 10.
Brothers were reborn in Dwapar yug, Prabhu Ram as Vasudev Krishna Lakshman as Balram Bharat as Karn Shatrughna as Arjun.
Dev Raj Indra granted Bharat and his wife Mandavi a place in heaven after they left the mortal world. Bharat spent the majority of his time in penance here.
Rahoo, the minister of asurs, frequently fooled the heaven guards, allowing him to sneak in and roam around.
Because he had consumed the nectar, his illusion had become even more difficult to overcome. He was hiding out and appeared to be a regular Dev, so no one really suspected anything.
Rahoo fantasised of having a chance to sleep with one of the "apsharas" in Dev Raj Indra's court, and as his desire grew with each glance at the otherworldly attractive dancers, so did his control.
Unfortunately, he once caught sight of a timeless beauty picking flowers in the garden. He was mesmerised by her captivating beauty and his desperation became stronger the more he looked at her. Regardless of the potential consequences, he wanted this woman now more than ever. She should only be his.
Mandavi was Bharat's wife, as he discovered after pursuing her and nearly dying in the depths of his unfulfilled desire to possess her. He entered the confrontation because he had had enough of trying his patience.
Rahoo challenged Bharat to a duel when he was performing his penance, but the latter declined.
He used all available tactics to get Bharat to raise his weapons, including taunting, provoking, insulting, and so on, but it had no effect on the latter. Eventually, he made the error of using Mandavi's name and mockingly referred to Bharat as an impotent.
Bharat finally agreed to a duel, and Rahoo was forced to flee after a humiliating defeat.
Rahoo vowed vengeance and sought assistance from the army of Nivatakavac asurs after being abasing in this manner.
When Bharat left for his penance the next time, Rahoo disguised himself as Bharat and used his magic on Mandavi. Then he gradually began to seduce her. ... Unluckily for him, Bharat came back to take his 'Rudraksh' and found his wife on bed, with another man looking like himself.
Taking some water from his Kamandal, Bharat dissolved Rahoo's magic and once again a fight ensued between the two, and this time Rahoo was aided by the Nivatakavac asurs.
An epic battle between Bharat and Rahoo went on and on, at a point, it became so vigorous that all the Devs requested Lord Vishnu to restore peace.
Appearing at the scene, Lord Vishnu advised both the parties to drop the weapons.
Rahoo got cursed to be born as a human and suffer for his doing, while Bharat vowed to avenge his wife's insult.
Mandavi, sinking in her own world of guilt, decided to isolate herself to repent for her part. Even though Bharat tried to convince her and explain about the magic, she remained firm with her decision.
Before she could walk out through a portal, her husband promised to be there for her whenever she returns. But, in his desperation, he didn't realise that he said it Six times.
