Tik' 'Tik' 'Tik'... footsteps echoed down the corridor as Narkasur went for a walk in his palace.

When he approached a chamber, two guards were standing there with their heads bowed, and he could hear objects being smashed against the walls.

He stepped inside, pushing the large wooden doors open with his strong hands, to find his baby sister struggling with her ankle cuffs.

Suchitra tried everything she could to break free from the cuff-like thing on her ankle that was preventing her from using her magic.

Narkasur :- Well, nice try, but it's not breaking. Why waste your magic on pointless things when you can use it for much more? Imagine, sister, how we could rule this world with the help of your magic and my strength. No one would dare to oppose us.

Suchitra :- Jeysth, I'm not going to do anything you're telling me; anything going through your head is not going to work. You are aware of...

Narkasur :- I'm very well aware. After taking down the entire army of Gods, I'm standing here. All they could do was stand and watch as I grabbed their entire herd of four-tusked elephants, Varun's banner, and their mother Aditi's jewellery. You still believe that I am a dreamer?

Suchitra :- Do you realise that you are a monster? All you carry with you is your desire for power; you don't carry any mercy, love, or respect. Do you possess any traits that would qualify you for this power ?

Narkasur :- It's not a question of whether or not I'm qualified. I already have this ability. The question is whether you will assist me with it.

Suchitra :- And you already know the answer.

Narkasur :- You don't have faith in your brother? I swear I will not touch any of your family members, not your husband, his brothers, or anyone else. Why will I hurt my sister ? Or, if I had wanted to, I could have done it with the snap of my fingers.

Suchitra :- My husband... his brothers ?... how do you know him ?

Narkasur :- In the same manner that I know you, in the same way that you know me. I am aware that he was just banished for seven years.

Suchitra :- Seven years of exile...

He began to pace back and forth.

Narkasur :- Unlucky boy, he didn't deserve it, but that's what happened, can't change it. But there is one thing that can be changed: his safety. You want him to be okay, don't you?

Suchitra :- You can't do anything to him even if you wanted to. He is endowed with unbreakable armour that shields him at all times.

Narkasur:- I'm just saying, that armour only protects him; it doesn't make him immortal.

She simply turned to face the opposite direction without saying anything. Narkasur clenched his fist, his patience dwindling.

Narkasur:- It doesn't mean I can't do it if I talk nicely and behave well. I am far worse than you can imagine. And, you know what, I believe you require some incentive. Sister, come with me.

He began to walk away, stopping just outside the door.

Narkasur :- I don't like to repeat myself, but did you hear me when I said follow me?

She reluctantly followed him down the path to the terrace.

She walked alongside him as he came to a halt near the border, but the scene in front of her eyes left her mouth agape.

Buildings, specifically temples, were on fire, corpses littered the area with crows and vultures feasting on them, chewed body parts thrown here and there, and the stench made her want to puke.

She tightly closed her nostrils to keep from breathing in the air.

Suchitra:- What exactly is this?

After taking a deep breath, Narkasur cast a wicked smile her way as he looked.

Flashback :-

After defeating the army of Gods, Narkasur returned to his kingdom.

His soldiers, who were busy slaughtering the villagers and stealing the maidens, stopped and bowed when they saw him.

He acknowledged their devotion with a nod as he noticed some people approaching him and kneeling before him, holding hands.

People :- Maharaj, do you not torture us enough; now your soldiers have taken away all the unmarried ladies from us, even those who were supposed to get married today. In front of their very own eyes, their parents and other family members were slaughtered. Maharaj, please show mercy! Please don't kill us all.

Narkasur :- How many young women have they kidnapped?

One of his ministers responded with a smile after murmuring something to a few soldiers in response to his question.

Minister :- Maharaj, sixteen thousand one hundred.

Narkasur :- Hmmm... not a satisfactory number, but a respectable one; I'm pleased with their efforts, so I grant you your wish, villagers. I'm not going to kill everyone.

Villagers :- Maharaj, we will be eternally grateful.

Narkasur :- But is there anywhere you can feel safe?

An elderly priest replied.

Priest :- Everyone will feel secure in the presence of the Lord, and we will remain in our temples. No one will bother you, Maharaj.

Narkasur :- Good idea, now hastily vanish inside your temples. If I open my eyes again and see anyone wandering around, he won't be alive the next second.

As he closed his eyes, the soldiers laughed as the villagers scurried to the nearest temples, collapsing and shoving one another inside in an effort to rescue themselves.

When Narkasur opened his eyes, the area was deserted.

Narkasur :- Apparently, they took my warning too seriously.

He turned to face his soldiers, who were staring at him as if waiting for his command.

Narkasur :- What are you all waiting for ? Lock them up and burn them down.

Flashback ends.

Suchitra stumbled back in shock, as she stared at her "brother's" evil face.

Suchitra :- Wha... What are you ?

A dreaded laughter filled the already tensed air.

Narkasur :- I won't say again, you now have an idea about who I am. So, still not convinced ?

She couldn't find any word to reply, the shock was too overwhelming to cope with.

Narkasur :- Look, you don't have any option to choose from, you will have to assist me eventually, either do it nicely or I will have to use other means.

She barely managed to shake her head in a 'No' gesture, making her brother sigh. He clapped his hand, following which, two maids came running towards him.

Narkasur :- Tie her up in my garden. I'll meet you there.

He left as they dragged her away towards the garden.

The swing in the garden slowly rocked back and forth, trying to comfort it's lord, who laid down on it, having his peaceful eyes closed.

'Swami!'

A soft voice called him. Krishna opened his heavenly eyes to look up at his beautiful wife, who smiled seeing him awake. The incarnation of Devi Prithvi, she held the aura of a demi goddess.

Satyabhama :- Breakfast is already served, everyone's waiting for you at the table, and you're here.

He stared at her for a moment, then glanced up at the sky.

Krishna :- Maybe there's some more important task to attend, my plate can wait for some more.

She squinted her eyes but said nothing since she suspected he was up to something. A light flashed and Devraj Indra came on the scene at that very instant.

Indra :- Pranam Prabhu, Pranam Devi.

He spoke and bowed before them, and they nodded, recognising his salutation.

Krishna :- I'm guessing there was an emergency that caused this unexpected appearance.

Indra :- Yes, Prabhu, and the cause is Narkasur, Pratiyogitsha's terrible ruler. He's gone wild with power greed after receiving the boon from Lord Bramha. He stormed Swarg lok and grabbed away the four-tusked elephants, all of whom were Airavat's ancestors. We tried everything, but his boon makes him unbeatable. As if it wasn't enough, he stole mother Aditi's earrings. I'm here to seek for your assistance, Prabhu; please provide us with a solution.

Krishna rose from his seat and looked up at the sky.

Krishna :- His death is the only solution left. He had the arrogance to disrespect Devi Aditi, the mother of gods, and had already strayed outside his limitations.

Indra :- He also kidnapped Devi Prithvi's daughter forcibly.

Satyabhama :- What did he do?

Indra :- Yes, I believe he wishes to combine his boon with the strength of her magic in the hopes of enhancing his powers to the point of immortality.

Satyabhama :- Swami, you must stop it immediately because if he succeeds, there will be no stopping his bad activities.

She said to her husband, who nodded and motioned towards Garud, who was sitting in the same garden, waiting for his lord to instruct him.

Krishna :- Garud will take us there.

Satyabhama :- Us ?

Krishna :- Of course, putting an end to the evil king of Pratiyogitsha is not my job alone. I'll need some assistance, so, will you please accompany me, my dear wife ?

His wife couldn't understand what he was trying to convey in his puzzle of words. Getting the assurance, Devraj Indra dissapeared before she could know while Satyabhama just stared at her husband, hoping he might elaborate his words.

But Krishna passed his usual mischief filled smile, and without uttering a single word he caught the pleasantly surprised Satyabhama by the waist and swung her onto Garud. Then he seated himself behind her and soared into the sky.

Suchitra couldn't help but feel tired, having used up much of her energy to break free from the invisible cuffs around her wrists and waist. They were weakened but she'll be totally exhausted by the time she could undo the spells. Strong sun rays rained on the garden, worsening the situation, the surrounding seemed to be on fire it got so hot.

The sound of approach footsteps alerted her to the people approaching. Narkasur stopped in front of her, but unlike last time, his smug smile was replaced with a frustrated expression. He would've lost his patience long ago, had it not for his years of penance.

Narkasur :- Why are you doing this ?

Suchitra :- Should be me to ask this question.

Narkasur :- You know that my people, they're nothing in front of your powers, if you want you can just destroy them within no time then why waste such powers hiding it. Why live in forests when you can be the queen of one of the strongest kingdoms of Aryavarth. Why waste your life raising a useless little thing...

Suchitra :- MY SON IS NOT A USELESS LITTLE THING!!! And you don't get to say anything about him! If anything happens to him, you can't imagine what will happen.

Narkasur :- Ouch!!! Did I scratch something sensitive, yeah, I bet I did.

He smirked, seeing his sister fuming with anger.

Narkasur :- Mura!

He called for his guard, the Five headed devil, who came running and bowed before his king.

Mura :- Yes Maharaj.

Narkasur :- Stand here and guard this place. And stay alert all the time, this woman tied up in my garden is the princess of magic. Inform our people before she breaks out from those spells, which she'll eventually do, there's no doubt, but not before having used all of her energy. And.... meanwhile, I have another important matter to attend.

He grinned before starting to walk away, Suchitra shook her invisible restraint forcefully, as if she could free herself just like that.

Suchitra :- No!! You can't do that, come back here.

She groaned in frustration, she couldn't move, not before freeing herself from the magical spells.

Mura sighed looking at her.

Mura :- You know very well if Maharaj have something in mind then he for sure will do everything to get it, you should better listen what he's saying, might prove to be good for both. Or else you can just stand here and see your world bit by bit.

She scoffed and turned her head to the other side.

Mura :- Well then, suit yourself, cuz the spell ain't breaking anytime soon.

He went to sit at his place under a huge tree, waiting for next command from his master.

As Garud reached the outer gates of Pratiyogitsha, Krishna took his cronch, the Panchajanya and blew a triumphant blare, which alerted everyone present there.

Mura rose from his seat and ran towards the outer door, Suchitra left there alone, wondering what had happened all of a sudden.

Mura reached there only to find Garud hovering above him.

Mura :- Vasudev Krishna, it's about time you came here, but before you get to see my lord, you'll have to pass over my corpse.

Krishna :- So be it, but today is the last day for your King.

Mura raised his glittering trident and charged it towards them but with arrows fired in quick succession, Krishna split the weapon in peices before it could even touch him.

He then sent sharp pointed arrows into the five gaping mouths of asur.

Roaring in pain, Mura flung his mace towards Krishna, who destroyed it with his own.

Getting the news about the fight, Narkasur came out to confirm it himself.

Krishna raised his right index finger, summoning the Sudarshan chakra. Which, when released, went sailing through the air and next moment, Mura's heads were severed from his body.

Narkasur, who witnessed the fall of his most trusted warrior, fumed his anger and ordered his generals to attack Krishna with the entire army.

Mura's seven sons came rushing out with their weapons but Krishna routed them in no time, the arrows coming from his bow were so fast and powerful that they stood no chance against him.

Just as this was over, Narkasur's army of elephants thundered towards Garud, who attacked them with his beak, wing and claw.

The frightened elephants fled away, not wanting to attract the wrath of Garud.

Livid with anger, Narkasur invoked a powerful thunder shaped astra and hurled it towards Garud.

Narkasur :- You vile bird, you can't escape this powerful weapon of mine.

But the mighty weapon turned into a garland of flowers and placed itself around Garud's neck.

Narkasur stood on his elephant, looking up in the air as Krishna aimed his arrow straight at him.

Narkasur too, raised his bow and they began their duel, with mighty astras fired from both the sides. Krishna did have an upper hand but owing to his boon, Narkasur was able to stand his ground. And when it started to look as if the duel will go on without any stop, Krishna had his plan ready.

He summoned a powerful astra but didn't fire, he instead pretended as if he was adjusting it on his bow, and that's when an arrow from Narkasur hit him right on his chest. And he acted as if he would faint.

Satyabhama, who was a silent witness of the battle untill now, fumed in anger seeing her husband wounded, she snatched the astra and charged it towards the wicked Asura, beheading him that very instant.

For a moment, she couldn't believe her own instincts, how could she do it.

Krishna :- Wow, that was a good shot!

Surprised, she turned back to find her husband all well and smiling.

Satyabhama :- You look fine.

Krishna :- And I am.

Satyabhama :- Then what was that, an act ?

Krishna :- Had to, I think you don't know about the boon Narkasur had. That he will only be killed by his mother, so, overconfident he was that no one can kill him. He thought he could do anything without interruption. But now, you put an end to this evil foe and relieved the humanity of another curse.

He gestured Garud to land on the Ground so they could free the prisoners.

Satyabhama stared at Narkasur's lifeless body which lay in the puddle of his own blood, having some pity entering her heart, she raised her hand to bless his departing soul.

From the heaves, a shower of flowers fell upon Krishna, a gesture from the Gods thanking him for killing the Asur.

As they landed near the palace gates, Narkasur's son, Bhagdatt, came running and fell at Krishna's feet.

Bhagdatt :- Hey Prabhu! I am Narkasur's son, Bhagdatt, I place myself at your feet, please don't kill me.

Krishna smiled and made him stand up.

Krishna :- Do not fear Bhagdatt, I am not going to hurt you or anyone anymore, the battle is over. But can you please return Devi Aditi's earrings and Varun Dev's umbrella.

Bhagdatt :- Sure, Prabhu.

He said and clapped his hands, and a few soldiers came running along with the stolen articles, which Krishna accepted and they entered the royal palace of Pratiyogitsha.

Bhagdatt gritted his teeth and murmured under his breath.

"This ain't over"

Though Krishna heard it but decided to ignore.

On entering, they were greeted by 16000 maidens abducted by Narkasur. In a unison, all of them requested Krishna to take them away with him.

Krishna simply glanced at his wife, who, after a minute of thought, gave him a nod in approval.

Satyabhama :- So shall it be.

Bhagdatt promised them to have the damsels escorted with, due respect, to Dwarika.

They went ahead to free all the captured kings and other prisoners who all fell at Lord's feet, thanking him and all the praises.

And when all the work was done, Satyabhama asked her husband about returning, making him smile as he led her towards the Garden.

Krishna :- Did you forget, there's one more person left.

Satyabhama :- Suchitra... but where is she ?

Suchitra felt her legs give up when she tried unsuccessfully for nth time and the vision before her eyes slowly turning to black. And that's when the magical restraints around her wrists and waist vanishing making her loose balance and fall down but before she could land on the ground, another pair of hand helped her steady up.

The motherly warmth she felt, made her look up to Satyabhama, who gave her a hug and caressed her back.

Suchitra :- Mata....

That was all she could muster before a sudden jolt of energy rushed into her.

Suchitra :- Who... who are you ?

She asked the woman from whom she felt aura of her mother.

Krishna :- Your saviour.

He said appearing from behind as he stood next to his wife.

Satyabhama :- He is Dwarikadheesh Vasudev Krishna and I am his wife, Satyabhama.

Suchitra joined her hands to thank them, only to be pulled into hug once again.

Suchitra :- Thank you so much... I... I can't express my gratitude...

Satyabhama :- Shhh... it's okay, we don't want anything in return either.

Krishna :- Just make sure that the powers you have never be used for wrong.

Suchitra :- I live everyday making sure of it.

Satyabhama :- I'll have a chariot ready for you to...

Suchitra :- No need, I can go on my own, please, allow me to take my leave, my son would be looking for me.

She said a joined her hands, chanting a spell, a cloud of bluish energy surrounded her and she vanished along with it.

Krishna nudged his wife.

Krishna :- Looks like your daughter has trained herself well.

Satyabhama :- Why wouldn't she ? I am always with her to guide her ?

Krishna :- Hmmmm... that's true, but now I think we should delight Devi Aditi by returning her the earrings all other things Narkasur snatched from Devs.

Satyabhama :- Why late then ?

And they went away to find Garud...

"It's done, Jiji"

Draupadi raised her eyelashes slowly to gaze at herself in the mirror.

Her figure was covered by a bright red saree embellished with beautiful diamond and gold jewellery, her hair perfectly combed and braided with a chudamani put on it. Those jet black eyes, which had previously expressed purity, were now bloated with dried tears, but she sat up straight, head high, as a queen should.

wasn't something she disliked or hadn't done before, but she'd be doing it alone this time, without her husband smiling back at her and telling her how lovely she looked. But she will do it because it is now her responsibility.

A hand on her shoulder shook her out of her daze, and she noticed Pallavi standing behind her.

Pallavi :- You sure you wanna do it today, you don't look all too well, it could be done some other day.

Draupadi :- There's no point in delaying what should happen. And the sooner we get on with it, the better, I don't want these all useless ceremonies later on, moreover, everyone has to return to their work.

She got up, adjusting her ornaments, Pallavi came in front of her.

Pallavi :- Now you're doing the same.

Draupadi :- Hmm ?

Pallavi :- Taking decisions in haste without discussing it with others, and not being your usual self, you're trying to hide yourself behind that emotionless mask. Please, take a breath, sit down and think about it.

Draupadi :- I'm not hiding anything, cuz there's nothing to say. It's as simple as it sounds, I want to get it over with, and if I do have something to say, you'll be the first person to know.

Pallavi :- Why this all of a sudden ? I don't think it's really necessary.

Draupadi :- Neither do I, but delaying it means it'll have to happen sometime in the future, and I may not be the state to have it done. Bhrata Yudhishthir is not going to accept it, no matter how much I try to convince him, and if not him, no other brother will stand up. Someone has to, so I am.

She placed her hand on her stomach.

Draupadi :- It's also for my child, I want to set an example, this is the kingdom of Indraprasth and I am the queen here, in the king's absence, I must assume the powers and keep it safe till he returns.

Moving towards the balcony, she stood on the spot where her husband used to stand, watching his Kingdom grow with every passing day.

And today, people were entering the palace through the main gate and a long queue waited to get checked before going towards the rajyasabha.

Draupadi :- I will set an example for all the women in Aryavarth, that it's our time to come forward and raise our voices, that we can also bring a change.

Pallavi :- Your intent behind it maybe right, and the message you want to portray maybe be the correct one but what will this gullible public think about it. That not even a week passed since our king left and the queen is already taking his place. The image they have of your's might take a hit. They...

Draupadi :- Govind always told me, that people will gossip and forget, they don't have all the time in the world to think about these issues. Seven years from now, they won't recall when I assumed my powers, all they will think about the sense of oneness and security we provide them. And I think it's all that really matters to them.

Pallavi :- But... it's something.... well, let's get it done, we'll see later what happens and what we will need to do.

Draupadi :- That's like my sister, you'll need to be there with me all the time, so be prepared. Now let's go, everyone would be waiting for us at the rajyasabha.

They exited the room with Pallavi following his sister queen, they walked through a corridor with maids standing with their heads bowed on either sides, till the entrance of the grand Rajyasabha.

Guards bowed before them and pulled the gates slowly open, and the announcement of her arrival began.

"Attention everyone, entering before you is Maharani Draupadi, therefore I request all the courtiers and guests to take their places"

She closed her eyes taking a deep breath before placing her right foot ahead inside the sabha, and began walking towards the throne with flowers raining on her.

Drupad smiled at his daughter as she stopped in front of him and touched his feet, he placed his hand on her head proudly.

Drupad :- Always stay blessed my dear daughter, I cannot ask for anything else.

Draupadi :- It only because of your blessings that I am here today pitashree, I will never let you down.

She then turned to Srikhandini who pulled her in a hug after she touched her feet.

Srikhandini :- My blessings are always there with you sister, you don't need to even ask.

Driystadyumn stopped her before she could touch his feet, he simply caressed her hair and smiled.

Driystadyumn :- Don't embarrass me sister, you are now the queen of Indraprasth, the chief representative, I should be the one touching your feet, if only I can be as great as you.

Draupadi :- That doesn't change the fact that I am your younger sister Jeysth. I still need your blessings.

Driystadyumn :- May you become Samragi of Aryavarth some day.

She turned towards the 5 brothers who stood waiting for her and touched her feet, then moving aside to give her space to walk ahead.

As if the time had slowed down as she approached the grand seat, step by step.

For a moment, she glanced to her side as if hoping by some miracle, he'd be there but no, she's by herself this time.

She sat down on the throne, closing her eyes and opened them slowly to observe the crowd gathered in the hall.

A priest came forward chanting mantras and sprinkled some holy water on her and then on the crown which maids carried beside him.

He then gestured to Drupad to come ahead and crown his daughter, which he gladly accepted and went to place the crown on his daughter's head.

When doing so, he couldn't stop the happy tears that slipped from the corner of his eyes, to which she smiled and wiped them away stood up for her oath.

All the eyes fixed on her as she began.

Draupadi :- Today I.... Daughter of Maharaj Drupad, Yagyaseni Draupadi am taking oath as the supreme leader and head representative of Kingdom of Indraprasth in the absence of Maharaj Karn, till he returns. I pledge to perform my duties with pure intention and to the best of my capabilities. I shall never misuse my powers to the detriment of norms established, I shall treat my subjects with due respect and equality, overlooking their caste, colour or birth. I shall work for the progress of the kingdom and welfare of the people. I take this pledge in the name of the protector of Universe, lord Vishnu.

Pin drop silence, was all that engulfed the sabha for moments before it erupted into chanting in her name.

"Maharani Draupadi ki jay"

People began to shout in unison, praising their new supreme leader. Yudhishthir and his brothers glanced at each other, smiling happily.

Devika went on to stand beside Pallavi, who looked surprise at the reaction of people, she never thought it'd go so smooth, but well, it was still too early to say anything.

Draupadi could now feel confidence slowly seeping into her, which replaced the anxiousness that had engulfed her heart since morning, she can do it, for she has everyone's support.

A drop of tear rolled down Krishna's eye who stood near the window.

"Swami"

Called his wife Rukmini as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

Krishna :- If only I could say that the future of Aryavarth is as bright as the present.

"Still standing out here all alone"

It was more of a statement than a question, Duryodhan sighed as he heard the familiar voice from behind him.

He was feeling bored sitting in his room so came here on the terrace to relax in the cool breeze and rest on his swing. But she seemed to have followed him here somehow, without him knowing, or maybe he was too distracted by with thoughts of Bhanumati to even notice his surroundings.

Sumali came to stand beside him as they stood together to watch the birds fly in the open sky, sun almost down at the western end, casual passersby on roads, random carts showed up every now and then. It had rained for a few days so the sky was mostly clear.

Duryodhan :- So you're with me again, even though I already stated that I don't wanna talk. Why are you doing this ? What do you want me to hear ?

Sumali :- No, I want you to start talking, and tell me what's going on ? If not as a friend, as a mentor, I'm here to help, you can and it'd be better if you begin to say what's going on in your mind.

He smiled a bit, though only faintly, but she did notice.

Duryodhan :- You're not going to leave my way before I talk to you huh ? Now I'm pretty sure Mamashree sent you here to make me feel better, he's only the one always caring about me .... unlike others.

He scoffed under his breath and came back to sit on his swing.

Sumali :- Okay, for a moment, I'm believing what you said, even if he did send me here, what difference does it make ?

He crossed his arms.

Duryodhan :- You're not going to leave before I tell you whatever you wanna know huh, which I don't want to, is there any other way this could be settled.

Sumali :- I will eventually walk away if even after my insistence you don't want to talk. Which I won't suggest, but still... it depends on you. So...

Duryodhan :- Very well, I don't know how to begin or what to say. What hurts me more ? Her leaving me or loving someone else ? Am I really hurt or just jealous ? He has everything in his life ? A beautiful and caring wife, valiant and trustworthy brothers, loving mother and most importantly, a whole independent kingdom with lots of support. Wealth, fame, power, everything. But does it really bother me that much as my wife falling for him, the devil which he hides behind his innocent face is what irks me the most. Why can't he be his true self ? Show everyone what he really is ?

He stopped for a bit, catching his breath, realising he blabbered all the nonsense in front of her, how could he, maybe he just got carried away, suddenly he felt embarrassed and wanted to slap his forehead.

Sumali :- Feels more like jealousy to me. You're not thinking on your own, I can easily see it's someone's influence talking.

Duryodhan :- What do you mean ?

Sumali :- What is the connection between his wealth, power and fame with your wife ? What are you insecure about ? You are the yuvraj, the eldest in line for the throne after your father. You are surrounded by all your brothers who are no less than Pandav, Gangaputr Bhism and Guru Dronacharya are pledged to serve your flag till their last breath. There is more support for your kingdom than any other. And if you think your wife fell in love with him seeing his wealth and fame, then... maybe you married the wrong girl.

Duryodhan :- No! She would never do anything like that.

Sumali :- Hmmmm... when did you came to know that your wife is in love with someone else.

Duryodhan :- It's not something I got to know, I probably knew it from the very beginning, maybe even before I saw her for the first time. I was just denying it, only to comfort myself that it all can be false, that she was there for me. But no, now I think it was crystal clear from the way she looked at him, in that swayamvar sabha, holding a beautiful garland in her hands, looking no less than a goddess. It shouldn't have happened but, she captured my heart without even saying a word. Things changed after that incident...

Sumali :- What happened ?

Duryodhan :- We were in Indraprasth, on the invitation of Pandavs to attend the final ceremony of them having established their kingdom on the land of Aryavarth. Such a grand palace! A place even gods in heaven would desire to reside in. During the night stay when everyone was busy roaming around the palace, observing it's beauty, at a quiet corridor, I stood, watching him carry my wife to her room. I didn't knew what happened between them or why would she not protest, or atleast he should've shown some decency. He placed her on the bed comfortably and covered her wounds with his angvastra. That moment! All I wanted was to grab my mace and wage a war there and then, but something inside me kept telling me to stop and talk to her first, to clear everything out maybe. I did eventually control myself but I couldn't garner patience to talk to her, or even look in her eyes. I told Mamashree about it and he helped me confront her for the truth...

Sumali :- Wait! What actually did you mean by confrontation ?

Duryodhan :- What it means.... I asked her what happened and if there's anything going on.

Sumali :- And who else was present there when you asked her the questions ?

Duryodhan :- Almost everyone... Mata, Pitashree, Pitamah, Kakashree...

Sumali :- This is not confrontation! You were accusing her for all that, this means, questioning her character, in short, defaming her.

Duryodhan :- I never wanted that to happen... it went on and happened so fast I couldn't avoid. Like one day it was all quiet and tensed and the next day all hell broke loose and everything went to....

He couldn't help but sigh, not able to find suitable words.

Sumali :- Tell me one thing, if you knew that she loved someone else, or if you even had the hint, which I can figure out from your words, why marry her in the first place, you wern't fool enough to understand that she'd probably never see you the same way. And... whose idea was it ?

He just stared at her, surprise reflecting on his face. Either she was too smart or his actions were too stupid to guess all what would've happened. His neck seemed to have lost power to support his head, which hung down in embarrassment.

Duryodhan :- Mamashree...

Sumali :- So, he was the one to tell you to go and marry her. And you went there, no other thoughts, abducted her. Knowing that she wanted to marry someone else. After all that, you expected her to forget everything in an instant and live with you happily, how can you even think it's possible.

Duryodhan :- I don't know what came in my mind or what was I thinking back then. It just happened. But you're right, I should've given her the space, talked to her and should've supported her... and I didn't, I failed as a husband and I regret. I also understand what's done is done, it won't come back, but... I simply can't move on, you know.

He couldn't lift his head up to meet her eyes, he knew he wouldn't be able to bear her piercing stare.

Sumali :- Did you had a fight with your brothers after that ?

Duryodhan :- Huh ?

She could feel that the conversation was already too much for both of them.

Sumali :- Just think about it, what if the main objective of this suggestion was to create a rift between the cousins.

Saying this, she left the place before he could even think of a reply.

Princess Jhanvi stood near the balcony in her chamber, her gaze fixed upon the night sky. The moon shyly emerged from behind the melancholic clouds, casting a pale glow over the scene. Wisps of silver mist hung in the air, mirroring the princess's wistful yearning.

The room itself was adorned with regal elegance, draped in cascading curtains of midnight blue velvet that danced gently in the breeze. Soft candlelight flickered on the ornate furnishings, casting shadows across the chamber, amplifying the sense of solitude.

As Jhanvi leaned against the cold marble railing, a trace of sorrow traced her delicate features. Her eyes, normally bright and full of life, now held a tinge of melancholy. The moonlight highlighted the faint trails of tears that stained her cheeks, evidence of her longing for the elusive prince who resided in her heart.

A group of crickets and nightingales serenaded the night, their melodies weaving a somber tapestry of longing and unfulfilled desires. The occasional gust of wind rustled the leaves of nearby trees, whispering secrets that Jhanvi strained to hear, as if hoping they would carry the whispers of her beloved to her.

Lost in her own world of longing, she clasped her hands tightly together, as if seeking solace in their touch. Her heart ached, yearning for the touch of her dream prince, whose presence felt so close, yet remained agonizingly out of reach.

In that sad and introspective moment, the moonlight and shadows played a gentle dance, casting an ethereal glow upon Jhanvi's face. The night held its breath, as if mourning alongside the princess, sharing in her silent sorrow.

As she stood there, the princess remained caught between reality and dreams, yearning for a love that seemed forever distant.

"Jiji"

A voice startled her out of her trance. She took a glance from the corner of her eyes to see it was Subhadra entering.

She quickly wiped away her tears, not wanting them to attract unwanted attention. Gingling sound of payals became louder as Subhadra approached her sister, who stood near the balcony, unmoved even by her presence.

Jhanvi smiled when she felt her sister's presence beside, but Subhadra knew that her sister didn't mean it.

Jhanvi :- How is Dau ? And others, they aren't too worried, right ?

Subhadra :- I can't say they're absolutely fine and going on with their usual chores as they do but, they are definitely doing better than you think of them. Dau is waiting for you, he hasn't eaten anything since morning, and says that he will only eat when you come out of your chamber and tell him to do so.

Jhanvi gazed into distance, her left hand resting gently on her belly. Her face bears a mix of apprehension and sadness, evident to her younger sister.

Subhadra :- Jiji, please sit down, you're wearing yourself out.

Jhanvi turned her head, offering a weak smile, she gestured to Subhadra to take a seat on the sofa near the table.

Jhanvi :- Subi, I don't know what to do. I'm not afraid of what people might say, but, what will my son think of it. I cannot escape this feeling of disgrace, I don't want my child to be weighed down because of me.

Subhadra :- You only taught me that life is unpredictable and circumstances beyond our control sometimes test our strength. You're not alone in this, I'm there beside you.

Jhanvi looked into her sister's eyes for a moment.

Jhanvi :- Yeah, I told you that, and this unpredictability is also the cause of troubles. I don't what lies ahead for me or for us.

Subhadra :- I know what lies ahead.

Jhanvi :- What ?

Subhadra :- That if you don't come with me and feed Dau with your own hands, he will faint.

Jhanvi chuckled shaking her head, her siblings will always be there to support her in times of need. But still she needed to talk to her brother.

Jhanvi :- He's a Maharathi, a warrior equipped with years of warfare experience, he's gone for weeks without food, he knows how to handle himself. Let's go, I'll talk to him.

Subhadra :- Now that's my sister.

She gave her elder sister a hug before they walked out of the chamber.

The moon peers through the shifting clouds, casting a soft, ethereal glow over the garden. Krishna, adorned in royal attire, sits gracefully on a swing made of intricately carved wood. His crown bears a majestic peacock feather, shimmering under the moonlight. He cradles a golden flute in his hands, its sweet and soothing notes waiting to be released into the night.

Krishna's face radiates calmness as he closes his eyes, feeling the cool night breeze caress his skin. The garden around him blossoms with vibrant flowers, their fragrances mingling in the air. Leaves rustle gently in response to the unseen melody that resides in his heart.

The moonlit garden serves as a haven of peace, its silence gently broken by Krishna's delicate touch upon the flute. His fingers dance effortlessly across the golden instrument, creating a tapestry of enchanting melodies that resonate through the night.

The sounds intertwine with the natural symphony of the garden. The gentle sway of the trees, synchronized with the rhythm of his music, seems like an intimate dance between nature and the divine. The flowers, as if enchanted by Krishna's melody, burst with vibrant hues, their petals fluttering like graceful dancers under the moon's soft glow.

As Krishna plays, his eyes twinkle with a profound understanding of the universe. He finds solace in this moment, appreciating the balance between joy and sorrow, light and darkness. His music conveys a subtle longing, a yearning for something beyond mortal comprehension, yet also a celebration of the present.

The melody reached far and wide, permeating the stillness of the night. It whispers secrets of love and wisdom, caressing the hearts of those who listen. The moon, the stars, and even the celestial beings seem to pause, captivated by Krishna's divine harmony.

Krishna's calm and peaceful expression betrays neither happiness nor sadness, but a perfect harmony of emotions. He embraces the bittersweet symphony of life, understanding that every note, every rise and fall, carries its own beauty and purpose.

The scene culminated with a final, lingering note that hangs in the air, as if it echoes across eternity. Krishna opened his eyes, his gaze filled with profound wisdom and compassion. The moon continues to watch over him, casting its gentle light upon his countenance.

In this moonlit garden, under the watchful gaze of the heavens, Krishna finds solace and connection through his enchanting music, reminding us all of the delicate balance between joy and sorrow, and the power of embracing life's ever-changing melodies.

Just as he smiled, sound of payals approaching let him know that his sister wished to talk to him.

Jhanvi walked cautiously, so as to not disturb the merry surrounding, she stood in front of her brother, who said nothing and just stared at her smiling.

Jhanvi :- Bhrata....

Just then, she noticed his stare. It wasn't pointed at her; his eyes seemed to be watching someone else. She turned to look behind her, only to be surprised that she choked. Her eyeballs looked as if they'd pop out.

Karn stood there at some distance, as if not wanting to disturb their moment. He couldn't look up to her; self-doubt had crept into him, and he found himself unable to lift his head up.

Jhanvi rushed to him, throwing herself into his arms as she pulled him in a hug. Her eyes couldn't contain the tears, and they flowed down her cheeks.

Karn froze for some moments, as he expected a slap or at least some scoldings, but this warm welcome made him even more embarrassed. He slowly wrapped his arms around her, patting her back to calm her sobs.

Jhanvi :- Where were you ? How did all this happen ? You had me worried, you know.

He said breaking the hug, feeling better.

Karn :- It.... just happened, I don't have any explanation for it. It could've been worse, I had two options, either I accept to turn into a wolf and live my entire life howling in the woods or go for an exile for 7 years. So I had to go with the second one.

Jhanvi :- And you're going there alone, you didn't even think of me, of our child.

She said placing her hand on her belly. He wasn't surprised, this was expected, he had warned her already, but she didn't listen.

Karn :- You think I never had your image in my heart while all this was happening, hmmm ?

Jhanvi :- That's not the point, how can you leave me here like this, I want to come along with you. To be where you will.

Karn :- That ain't possible, if it were, I'd take all of you with me, but the sage who cursed me, told me that only I have to go in exile, only me alone. And... I'm not leaving you here, it's your home, you are safe here with your family.

Jhanvi :- But...

Jhanvi began to protest, but before she could say anything, he went ahead and knelt near Krishna's feet, placing his forehead on them. Krishna immediately stood up and pulled him up into a hug.

Krishna :- What are you doing bhrata ? You are elder to me, I should be the one touching your feet.

Karn :- I stopped determining a person's age by number of days he lived as human. No matter how long I live, I can never be elder to you Madhav, you are the one I look upto.

He said joining his hands as his Vijay dhanush fell to the ground, Krishna caught his hands and smiled.

Krishna :- Can you change what is fixed by the nature ?

Karn :- Huh ?

Krishna :- Mother nature had already decided that I'll be your younger cousin and you'll be my elder, you can't change that fact. So let me do what I'm supposed to. Pranam bhrata Karn.

Karn :- Pranam.

Krishna nodded his head and gestured him to take a seat on the swing.

Karn :- I'm not here to sit and rest Madhav, I'm here to take my leave.

Krishna :- You don't need my permission to go wherever you want.

Jhanvi :- Wait! You can't go anywhere without answering my question.

She jumped in between the conversation.

Karn :- I told you already, I don't have any explanation for it, it is what it looks like.

Jhanvi :- But how can I...

Krishna :- Think of it like it was already decided by the destiny.

Jhanvi :- If that's supposed to make me feel better, it certainly didn't.

Krishna :- I'll answer your question, but let us finish first. So bhrata, you wanted to ask something ?

Karn smiled nodding his head, Krishna always knew what would be going on in his mind.

Karn :- If not permission, can I atleast get some advice as to where I should go.

Krishna :- Choose a place where you'd find peace and your prayers will be heard by the Goddesses of heavens.

Karn looked at Jhanvi for a moment before turning his head.

Karn :- May I now take my leave, Madhav.

Krishna :- May your journey be helpful to you and change you life for good.

Jhanvi kept staring at him as he picked his dhanush up and touched it to his forehead, he then glanced at her for one last time before walking away.

She tried to follow him behind but a hand on her shoulder stopped her from doing so.

Krishna :- No Jeevu, let him go, he has to do it alone.

Jhanvi :- Why.... bhrata...

She hugged her brother tightly and began sobbing. Krishna caressed her head and patiently waited for her to calm down a bit.

Krishna :- It's okay Jeevu, remember what I told you ? Life is not always what we expect it to be, and these expectations are the cause of worry.

Jhanvi :- But... how can he... leave me...

He broke the hug and cupped her face, wiping the tears with his thumbs.

Krishna :- Love is not always what it seems, sometimes it brings pain and seperation. But it's not a bad thing, one day you'll find yourself loving your love more. And seven years is not a small number but it won't last forever, it will come to an end someday and you will meet him again.

Jhanvi :- Tell me, is it a dream ?

Krishna :- No it's not, and even if it is, you are sure to wake up someday. Now let's go, it's already past midnight, you should take some rest.

He said and they both turned to walk back to their respective chambers.

The chamber was steeped in an eerie darkness, broken only by the pale glow of the moonlight that filtered through the window. Maharaj Alambush sat in his grand chair, positioned near the window, his figure partially illuminated by the ethereal light. He held a smoldering cigar, its tendrils of smoke twisting and dissolving into the air, as if mirroring the king's thoughts. The atmosphere was heavy, filled with anticipation and a sense of impending doom.

In this dimly lit chamber, where secrets whispered and shadows danced, the silence of the night was interrupted by the arrival of Prince Danddhar. His steps, though purposeful, barely made a sound against the cold, stone floor. He approached his father, his eyes gleaming with a wicked fire, the embodiment of his sinister intentions.

Father and son locked eyes, a silent exchange that spoke volumes of their dark connection. King Alambush exhaled a long plume of smoke, his gaze penetrating as he regarded his son.

Alambush:- Danddhar.

He spoke, his voice low and commanding.

Alambush:- It seems the time has come for you to make your move.

Danddhar's lips curled into a sly smile, a flicker of anticipation crossing his face.

Danddhar :- Indeed, Pitashree.

He replied, his voice dripping with malevolence.

Danddhar :- The kingdom is ripe for chaos, and I shall be the one to sow its seeds.

A subtle shift in the air signified an unspoken conspiracy between the two. They shared secrets, their minds entwined in a web of manipulation and ambition. The chamber seemed to echo their shared intent, amplifying the ominous undertones of their conversation.

As Prince Danddhar turned to depart, his silhouette melded with the encroaching darkness.

Danddhar :- Fear not, pitashree.

He whispered, his voice a chilling promise.

Danddhar :- I will shake that kingdom to its core.

Maharaj Alambush watched his son vanish into the murky depths of the chamber, his heart heavy with a mix of apprehension and a father's twisted pride. He knew the wheels of darkness had been set in motion, and their consequences would soon envelop the realm in a shroud of malevolence.

In the chamber's haunting silence, only the distant howl of wind and the faint glow of the moonlight remained as testament to the conspiracy that had been unleashed. The stage was set, and the kingdom teetered on the edge of chaos, its fate at the mercy of the prince's wicked ambitions.

In the soft afternoon light,

Princess Bhanumati sat on her bed in the comfort of her chamber, a delicate mix of melancholy and longing etched across her face. Through the window, her gaze fixated on the vast expanse of the sky, as if seeking solace and answers in its boundless embrace. The playful dance of birds in flight caught her attention, their freedom a stark contrast to the chains that had bound her own heart.

As the gentle breeze rustled the curtains, memories of the past flooded her mind, weaving a tune of joy and heartache. She couldn't help but recall the dreams she once held dear, of marrying her beloved Prince Karn and building a life together. But fate had dealt her a cruel hand, as on her marriage day, she found herself snatched away by Duryodhan and forced into a union she never desired.

Their journey together had been fraught with misunderstandings and turmoil. Yet, as time went on, the tumultuous tides began to settle, revealing a flicker of understanding and even a hint of affection. Bhanumati's heart had softened, and she had even come to carry the precious gift of Duryodhan's twins within her womb. But just as she dared to hope for lasting harmony, another misunderstanding tore through their fragile peace, shattering their bond once again.

In the face of relentless arguments and a deteriorating connection, Bhanumati made the difficult decision to leave, seeking refuge within the familiar walls of her parents' kingdom. It was a choice made not out of regret, but out of a fierce determination to protect her self-respect and preserve what was left of her shattered dreams.

Yet, in the depths of her heart, doubts lingered like shadows. She questioned the uncertain future that lay ahead for her unborn children, contemplating the weight of responsibility that now rested solely on her shoulders. Her thoughts turned to her kingdom, once a bastion of stability, now teetering on the edge of uncertainty without her presence beside Duryodhan. And most of all, she wondered if she would ever have the chance to reunite with the love of her life, Prince Karn, the one who still held a sacred place in her heart.

Lost in her reverie, a tear escaped her eye, tracing a path down her cheek. But amidst the pain and unanswered questions, there remained a flicker of resilience in Bhanumati's spirit. She vowed to find the strength within herself to face whatever lay ahead, to protect her children, her kingdom, and perhaps even find a way back to the love she had once known.

As she wiped away her tear, a determined fire ignited in her eyes. Princess Bhanumati rose from her bed, ready to face the uncertain future with unwavering courage. No matter the challenges that lay in her path, she would forge her own destiny, guided by the flickering light of hope and the echoes of love that still resonated deep within her soul.

The door creaked open, and Maharani Chandrabhaga, Bhanumati's mother, entered the chamber, concern etched across her features. She approached her daughter gently, trying to bridge the emotional gap that separated them.

Chandrabhaga :- Bhanumati, my dear, it's time for lunch. Won't you join me?

Bhanumati's gaze lifted from her contemplation, meeting her mother's eyes. She hesitated, conflicted between her own sorrow and the desire to maintain a semblance of normalcy.

Bhanumati :- Mata, I don't have much of an appetite, but I will come.

Chandrabhaga sensed her daughter's internal struggle and knew there was more to be addressed.

Chandrabhaga :- My child, I understand that wounds take time to heal. But have you given any thought to the future? Your own well-being and that of your unborn children?

Bhanumati's expression softened, revealing the weight of her emotions beneath her stoic facade.

Bhanumati :- Mother, I haven't yet begun to think about the future. My mind is still entangled in the pain of the past. It will take time to heal and find clarity.

Chandrabhaga reached out, placing a comforting hand on Bhanumati's shoulder.

Chandrabhaga :- I know you're hurting, my dear. Take your time to heal. And when the time is right, we will face the future together, as a family.

Bhanumati found solace in her mother's embrace, the weight on her heart lightening ever so slightly, as a glimmer of hope began to flicker amidst the darkness.
