Ezra's pov
I sit in a cafe, wringling my hands in anxiousness. Looking around at the sweet and homely place.
It's been 20 minutes passed 6. Is the person not coming?
Picking up the glass of water, I gulp it. Shaking my right leg in anxiety. To look around.
People were busy laughing and chatting ,in the day's usual affairs.
"Excuse me Ma'am, what will you like to have?"
The waiter asks me the third time and I look at him with a sorry look. Not knowing what to do or say. This was so embarrassing.
"I... actually. The person I am waiting for is still not here. Can you please wait for few minutes more?"
He sighs looking around.
"I have waited for a lot of time already."
"It's a bit crowded today Ma'am. Some people are waiting outside. Can you please call the person and ask?"
"Ya. Sure. I...I will call and ask. Sorry!"
"Hurry up ma'am. Or else I will have to ask you to leave. You can't just sit here."
I smile apologetically. And he whispers lowly to himself. Making his words prick my heart.
"I don't know why people like her come here"
He was a bit rude. But he is reasonable.
Giving me one last irritated look ,he leaves. And I stare at my phone in my hands, not knowing what to do?
Should I call mom?
No...I should wait. It's just 20 minutes. There can be an emergency.
My thoughts are interrupted by a glass shattering sound followed by a high squeak.
"Ouchhhhh! You stupid waiter! How dare you ruin my dress!"
"I....I....am so sorry ma'am! You...you suddenly got up-"
I see the same waiter, who was looking down at me apologizing to her.
"Such audacity! You dare to blame your mistake on me? Do you even know who I am? "
She screams at him. And I scrutinize the girl. Perfectly styled hair, a latest edition dress, expensive purse. Dolled up face.
Definately a rich man's daughter in comparison to the average looking waiter.
He lowers his eyes,as she steps closer to him. Looking down at him in disgust.
"Do you know how much this dress costs? Even your annual salary can't afford it!"
"I...am...I am sorry ma'am I didn't knew. It was a mistake...."
"Mistake? A damn mistake? Your mistake ruined my dress completely! Only 2 dresses were made of this ! Only 2! How the hell will I get it now?"
I roll my eyes at her, how dramatic. It's just a dress girl.
"Call your manager now! I will get you fired this instance! Just how can they hire incompetent staff like you?"
Fear strikes the waiters eyes. As he nearly folds his hands together, pleading.
"No ma'am please! I am sorry! I... don't do this ma'am! "
"Shut up! Manager! Who the hell manages this place, come out!"
The girl starts screaming, drawing everyone's attention. While I put down the glass of water, sighing.
Man! Why so much drama.
"Ma'am please! I...I have a family to feed. Don't do this please....it was just a mistake."
"I don't care! Mistake huh? Take this then!"
Picking up a glass of water, she empties it's content on the waiter.
Gasps are heard,as everyone looks at the scene like it's a damn drama movie.
But no one interferers, enjoying the scene.
The waiter was literally shaking, standing there with his head bowed. And I knew I had to stop this.
"People like you don't even deserve to be worth a second of my time, yet I stand h-"
"Then leave Madam"
I say stepping towards them. With my hands placed in my pocket.
The waiter looks at me in shock, but I don't pay heed. Standing between them.
"You? Who are you?"
She asks looking at me from top to bottom and I just smirk. Tilting my head to a side.
"A commoner perhaps. Who hates people looking down on others, just because they aren't that rich?"
She looks at me in shock. To only cover it up. Stepping closer to me.
"Step out of things that don't concern you girl. I will hate to include you in this."
"Stop humiliating others like they owe you something. And if you are really that rich."
"Why don't you buy a new edition dress yourself?"
"You bitc*!"
She seethes, stepping closer. And I refuse to back down. My eyes set in stone at her.
She wasn't taking this lightly, it seems no one stood up to her before.
"If you are so considerate for this man here, why don't you repay on his behalf then?"
"$2000"
My throat runs dry. What the hell? It was just a normal dress, according to me? Is it stitched with gold threads or what?
I gulp, going silent.
I do have enough in my card. But they were my entire years savings. Should I ?
I clench my fist, looking at her. A victorious smirk on her lips as she flips back her hair.
"What a poor thing? First know your worth ,and then talk to me like that. Now get lost."
"Get the manager here! Now!'
"No... please..."
The waiter says with tears streaming down his eyes and I let out a sigh. Taking out my card and offering it to her.
"Here"
She stares at my outstretched hand in shock. Her smirk dropping. While my hand holding out my card was literally shaking.
We are doing the right thing Ezra. Don't worry, we will earn it again.
This man needs it more.
Looking down at the floor, I was trying to stop the heaviness in my chest. When suddenly I felt a warm grip on my wrist.
Furrowing my brows, I look down to see a pair of shining shoes in my vision.
I gulp, looking up.
And what or rather who I saw, literally took my breath away. He was a beautiful man indeed, with a set of blue hypnotizing eyes.
His orbs set on the girl, and his jaw clenched.
But his grip on my wrist, gentle.
"What is going on here ,if I may ask?"
His choice of words were sober, but his tone. It seeped with underlying anger.
The girl looks at him and I see her mouth opening and closing. It seems, it was not only me getting attracted to this beautiful stranger.
He had this effect with other girls out there.
Gathering herself, she speaks up. Flickering her eyelashes, her persona completely changing from bitchy to extra sweet.
"Hi! I was just calling for the manager here. I need to talk to him."
His next words making me take a double take. As my heart thuds.
"I am the owner here. Speak"
Her mouth opens in shock as she passes him a nervous look. Looking at the waiter and me, to set her eyes back at him.
"Speak ma'am. I don't entertain such ruckus in my place."
"I...I....your waiter here just ruined my dress."
I almost roll my eyes, these double faced people, I tell you! I just hate them!
"I apologise on his behalf. I am sure it was a mistake."
His words come out so smooth and confident. That I just admire this man.
How perfectly he handled the situation.
Taking out his phone, he asks her directly.
"I will compensate you for your loss. Tell me yo-"
"No!"
She exclaims. Stopping him. To only give him a flirtatious look.
"It's nothing. Seriously. You don't need to compensate."
His fingers stop typing ,as he looks up at her. That look? Damn man, I am telling you this man was something else.
"Are you sure? "
The girl smiles a fake laugh, waving her hand.
"Of course. However, if I can get your number or your name perhaps? It would could be considered to be settled."
What the hell? Did this girl really? How can she openly flirt with him like that?
He however didn't look happy with this. His jaw hardening,as he slides his phone back in his pocket to look back at her.
"I am afraid, it's against the protocols here. Sorry , once again."
Her face drops, for a second. To show her dissapointement, followed by her covering it up
"It's completely fine. I understand."
He barely nods.
"Thank you for coming. Come I will show you the way out."
And that's how he makes the girls leave. I stare at the man's back as he takes them out.
And I gulp, moistening my dried throat. He stood out from everyone.
With that toned body and perfect face. He was indeed, any girls Mr Perfect. Or atleast he seemed to be.
My chain of thoughts are broken by the waiter, who bowed at me.
"Than...k you so much for saving me Ma'am ....I can't thank you enough.."
I smile at him, telling him it's fine.
"No...ma'am I sincerely feel ashamed of myself...I was so rude to you yet you..."
I place my hand on his shoulder. Stopping him.
"It's fine. You were just doing your job. Don't be sorry..."
His eyes flicker from mine to set on something behind me. And he stills, gulping. Confused, I turn around to only have my eyes come in contact with a broad chest ,that was just centimetres away from me.
I immediately move back, finding myself too close to someone. To only stumble on my own foot and fall back.
A low shriek leaves my lips, to only have my fall interrupted in mid air.
Two strong arms, wrap around my waist and I find myself, looking back at those piercing blue orbs.
His eyes locking with me for the first time in last 5 minutes.
The moment ended just then,as he pulls me up. Steading me. A pleading voice, audible behind me.
"I...am sorry Sir! I beg your pardon! I didn't do it intentionally.....the lady just-"
"It's fine. Go back and do your work."
I look up at him again, to find his eyes fixed on the waiter behind. Do men like him exist? Goodness this man was so charming.
His eyes flicker down to me and I immediately lower my eyes.
Damn Ezra! You were just caught staring.
He didn't seemed to mind though,as next I know. He trails his fingers down my wrist, to open my palm.
And place my card back in it.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long, Ezra?"
I look at him with my mouth open. My senses short circuiting.
How...how does he know my name?
And that's when the reality sets in ,as I gulp looking up at the beautiful stranger smiling softly at me.
He is the one I was set to meet up with?
Damn man, I can already hear my heart thudding in my chest.
......
The girl walks out of the restaurant, breathing heavily. Her eyes fixed on the figure leaning against his car , on the other side of the road
Reaching him , she folds her hands. Looking at him with perplexed look .
"You seriously are so difficult to understand. Why would you want me to do that?"
The man doesn't reply. Sunglasses placed on his eyes as he stares inside the restaurant.
Arms folded and posture casual.
"Thank you for your help. You don't need to know the reasons."
He shuts her up, and she gives him a look of disbelief.
"Fine! Don't tell me. But what about what you promised. I did your work."
He takes away his eyes from the restaurant to look at her.
"You will get the admission letter next week."
She exclaims in happiness. To only bid him farewell and leave.
The man stays there for next few minutes ,taking in the couple getting seated beside each other.
To only turn his back on them and clench his fists tightly. Opening the door of his car, he settles in.
Removing his sunglasses.
To see those grey eyes staring back at him in the rear view mirror. And he questions himself, as to why was he doing it.
Why he wanted her to move on from him so badly?
Looking back at the restaurant, one last time. He starts the engine and leaves.
Uttering the last words to assure himself, that what he was doing was right.
"Hearts that bleed don't love Ezra."
"And I can give you everything you ask me, except for my heart."
