I walked inside of the church, Anna and Angela shortly following behind.

I've been here before. I can feel it. But I don't remember it.

"Why is this place so familiar?" I muttered to myself.

"I haven't been inside a church for so long..." Angela marveled, looking around.

"That's why this place is abandoned." Anna commented. "Your family moved out."

"Yeah. I always did wonder why the church was abandoned..." I replied.

As you would expect of an abandoned place, vines were growing all over the church. I wonder if God hated my family for leaving.

I walked through the main hall, touching each wooden seat. Every single grain of wood felt familiar. Why was this so familiar?

This isn't coincidence. Something is going on.

I walked up to the podium, examining it. It's so familiar.

I stood on the stage, looking at the whole church from this angle. The wooden seats, the stone walls, the stained glass murals. They were so familiar.

I examined the stained glass windows. They seemed to tell some sort of story. The first showed an Angel from Heaven. The second one showed that same Angel coming down to Earth, a basket in hand.

The third showed the Angel placing the basket at the doorstep of the church. The fourth showed a family from the church discovering the basket.

And then the final stained glass window revealed what was inside of the basket. A baby.

...

This can't be a coincidence, right?

But this mural is telling the story of the baby of an Angel. That can't be me. I'm human, and they found me when I was four, wandering inside the church.

"A Nephilim..." muttered Angela, staring at the stained glass windows.

"A what?" I asked.

"A Nephilim. That's what the story is about. It's the child of an Angel and a Human. They're legends for us Angels." Angela explained.

"Interesting..." I thought. Angels also have their own legends.

"It doesn't happen often though. Most times Angels who do it then get kicked out of Heaven and become Fallen Angels." Angela continued. "At least, according to the legends."

"Does that mean you can fall?" Asked Anna curiously.

"I can't." Angela replied, shaking her head. "There isn't a Heaven for me to be kicked from."

"Oh...right..." Anna awkwardly replied.

"Are Nephilim always delivered to churches?" I wondered.

"No. The legends say most are killed. After all, the contain the power of an Angel but don't retain the weakness. They're incredibly dangerous. That is, if they exist." Angela responded.

"And if they did exist, they don't anymore. It's been 1000 years since the Angels died." Angela sadly added.

I looked over at Angela. Giving her a hug, I felt her hands tighten on my shirt. I can't imagine what she must feel. The weight of the survivor's guilt she must have.

"It's not your fault." I told her.

"I know...I know. But it hurts..." She cried.

That's when I remembered something Mom told me before, when one of our relatives died a couple years ago.

"It's going to hurt. It always will. But I promise it will get better. And there's nothing wrong with that." I stated.

"...Thank you." She replied, hugging me.

We stayed like that for a little longer, until Angela's sniffles died down and she wiped her eyes, removing the tears.

"Sorry..." she weakly replied.

"It's fine." Anna said, patting her back.

Oh, they're getting along for once.

"You think there are more rooms in here?" Asked Anna.

"There has to be. Where else would my family live?" I responded.

I noticed a door behind the podium. Opening it, it led to an area behind the big stage. In this area were multiple different rooms, all empty.

This was most likely where they used to live. I can already see it, a bed there. A drawer there. This room could have been a closet.

This can't be it, right? This can't be all to the church! There has to be something more. I need answers!

I stomped my foot on the ground, frustrated. But then I realized that it sounded hollow...

"Anna! Angela! Come here!" I yelled.

They quickly ran over to me. "What's wrong?!" Anna asked.

"Listen." Was all I said. I stomped on the ground again. "Doesn't it sound hollow? Like there's an empty space beneath?"

"It does..." gasped Angela. "Do you think there's a basement?"

"Most likely." Anna replied. "I wouldn't put it past a creepy abandoned church like this."

We started to search for a stairwell, but couldn't find any. I searched every room but there was no place for stairs to be located.

Every room was empty. Except this one, which had an old red rug. Wait...

Why is this the only furniture left?

Moving the rug, underneath was a long trapdoor with a lock. Reaching down with my Demonic Arm, I easily pulled off the rusty lock. Opening the trapdoor, it revealed a staircase that descended into darkness.

"Anna! Angela! I found something!" I called.

They came over, gasping at the sight of the open trapdoor.

"A secret passage? In the church?" Wondered Anna.

"Angela, do churches usually have secret passages to a secret basement?" I asked.

"No, they don't." Angela replied, shaking her head. "If there is a basement, it isn't hidden like this."

"So this isn't an ordinary church..." I realized.

I started to walk down the steps into the pitch black basement. Angela lit her hand on fire, illuminating the hallway.

The stairs led to a stone hallway with a lone door at the very end. We slowly approached the door, before pushing it open.

We were in some kind of altar room.

At the other end of the room was a large statue depicting a woman with bird wings. An Angel. The stone Angel wore robes, and in one hand she held a staff. In the other, a sword. A mirror was inside the base of the statue, allowing you to see your reflection.

Other than the statue, the room was fairly empty. There was a desk to the right, but otherwise than that, nothing else.

I opened the drawers of the desk, only to find it completely cleaned out, except for a single ripped piece of paper. Taking out the small piece of paper, I read what it said.

"Gabriel's St"

"St?" Anna asked.

"It probably means statue." Angela commented. "The rest of the word was ripped off."

"So, this is a statue of Gabriel? Isn't that a major Angel?" I asked.

"She was. One of the strongest, bravest, and kindest." Angela replied. It sounded like Angela personally knew her...

I looked at the statue, a small glint catching my eye. Looking closer, I noticed a silver necklace around the neck of the statue.

It was a cross.

It reminded me of my families, but they weren't the same. Mom, Dad, and Lilia all had the same styled cross, but this one didn't match those. This one had a different style. Somebody other than my family was here.

I don't mean to be impolite, but I need answers.

So I slowly took the necklace of the cross off of the statue. Holding it in my hands, it gave me a weird feeling. It felt...

Familiar.

[96%]

This is so strange.

I got onto my knees in front of the statue, holding the cross to my chest.

Please, God, Gabriel, or anyone listening. I know I'm not someone you would probably like to help, considering I go to school in Hell and have a Demon Arm, but please...please help guide me. I need to know who I am. All my life I thought I knew, until suddenly I found out the truth.

[99%]

I have questions, and I'm searching for answers. Of who I am, and if it connects to everything. Please, help guide me to find myself.

I heard Anna and Angela gasp in shock from behind me, breaking me out of my trance. What's going on?

Opening my eyes, I looked into the mirror on the base of the statue, allowing me to see myself.

What?!

My left eye was no longer amber, now a light blue. Above my head was a halo, and I had a single Angel wing on the left side of my back.

I'm...

"No way...you're a Nephilim..." Gasped Angela.
