(Dawn POV)

Today's the day.

I looked at myself in the mirror, making sure I looked good for the party. Even if I wasn't looking forward to today, I still have to look good.

I placed the bat earrings into my ears, topping off my outfit. Doing one final check, I deemed that I looked pretty nice. Moving into my room, I looked out of the window. My door opened as my mother walked in, smiling at me.

"Hey honey." She softly greeted.

"Hey Mom." I replied, sighing.

"You ready?" She asked.

"Not really." I responded, sitting myself onto my bed. "I don't want to choose a fiancé."

"I know honey, I know. Neither me or your father want this for you, but it's been a Vampire Royalty tradition for centuries. The people would be up in arms about it." Mom explained, sitting down next to me.

"That's only because they want a chance to marry into the royal family." I scoffed.

"I'm sure not all of them are like that. Are you sure that none of them take your fancy?" Mom asked.

I hesitated for a second, thinking of one man.

"Oooh, who is it~?" Mom teased.

"What are you talking about?" I grumbled.

"There's totally somebody." She smiled.

"Fine. It's just...a small crush. Not like it would work anyway. He's not a vampire." I sighed.

"You know...you have to choose a fiancé, but it never said it had to be a vampire." Mom revealed.

I felt a spark of hope for a second. He would absolutely be better than anybody else. And ever since he saved me I've had a little crush towards him. But it's just a crush.

"So, who is he?" Mom asked.

"He's the guy that helped me against those robed men when I snuck out." I told her.

"You shouldn't have done that." Mom sighed.

"I know, I just feel...trapped. I needed a breath of fresh air. I love you, I really do...but..." I muttered.

"Then you should just choose him as your fiancé. I'm sure he would love to be the husband of such a beautiful girl." Mom suggested.

I felt a smile tug at my lips. If it was him, it wouldn't be bad...But then another thought crushed my hopes.

"What are the chances that he would even be here?" I asked. "You don't just invite everyone..."

"You never know." Mom replied. "If he was strong enough to help you, there's a chance he may be here."

"Oh! I have the guest list here!" Mom suddenly said, pulling out a piece of paper. "What's his name?"

"Jackson Walker." I told her.

She unfolded the piece of paper, which multiplied in size, with the bottom of the paper hitting the floor.

"Let's see...Walker..." Mom muttered, scrolling through all of the last names that started with W.

"Here he is! Jackson Walker." Mom said, pointing to a name on the paper.

"Seriously?!" I gasped, looking at the paper.

Mom smiled at me. "You must really like him."

"Huh? Why do you think that?" I asked.

"You're smiling." She simply said, gesturing to my face.

I moved my hand to my mouth. I really am smiling...

"Come on." Mom smiled. "It's almost time for the party."

"Alright." I replied, smiling. This party is going to be better than I thought...

We walked out of my room, heading through the hallways. Eventually we walked up to the door which led to the second floor of the ball room, which my Dad was waiting.

"Hey." He smiled.

"Hey." My Mom smiled back.

I looked through the glass of the door. Maybe I could see Jackson! I scanned the room, searching for him. And as I finally found him, my heart dropped.

It was Jackson. He was putting a necklace around a girl. The same necklace I helped him buy. He then leaned in, kissing her on the lips.

Heh. Of course. I was such an idiot. Of course he has a girlfriend...why else would he buy a necklace for a girl...?

"Honey?! What's wrong?" My Mom worriedly asked.

I touched my cheeks.

Ah, tears.

Maybe I liked him more than I thought...

"He-he...already has someone..." I gasped out.

Dad just looked at Mom confused, who shot him a "I'll tell you later" look.

"It's okay." Mom said, wiping my tears from my face. "I have an idea."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Ask him for a dance. Talk to him, and see how you feel. And if you still feel that way, then he can be your fiancé." Mom suggested.

"But...what about his...?" I wondered.

"Who said he can't have multiple wives?" Mom grinned. "After all, he would become a king."

"What?!" I gasped. "Mom?!"

She can't be suggesting that?! That's crazy!

"Wait what?!" Roared Dad.

Mom shot Dad a "no discussion" look, causing him to clamp his mouth shut.

She really has you whipped Dad...

"I'm sure that if he is as good as you believe he is, he will treat both of you well." Mom smiled. "All right. It's time."

"Okay." I nodded.

I took a deep breath. You can do this.

We faced the door, opening it and entering the ball. Everybody turned to look at us as we started to walk down the stairs.

That was a good entrance.

I glanced over to Jackson. He looks shocked. I hope he liked it.

We reached the bottom of the stairs. I started to walk towards where Jackson was. Everybody moved out of the way for me, allowing me to easily approach him.

"May I have this dance?" I politely asked him, extending my hand.

He glanced over to his girlfriend. He must be very loyal. I hope I don't break that...

His girlfriend hesitantly nodded, obviously not wanting her boyfriend to dance with another girl. But she would be refusing the princess, so she can't really do anything.

He looked back to me, taking my hand.

I think my heart just skipped a beat...

Pulling him to the middle of the dance floor, we started to slowly dance together as everybody moved backwards, creating a circle around us.

"It's been a while." I greeted.

"It has." He smiled. "No wonder they were after you...you were the princess."

"You didn't know?" I asked, slightly shocked.

"No clue." He replied, shaking his head.

I giggled. "Of course. My disguise was perfect."

"Ah yes, perfect. A robe is the best kind of disguise." He sarcastically replied.

We both laughed a little together.

He didn't save me because I'm the princess...he's so kind. And he doesn't seem to care either. He we are, easily joking around.

"That girl. Was that your girlfriend?" I asked.

"Yeah." He smiled. "Thanks again for helping me with the necklace."

"No problem." I replied. "How long?"

"About two weeks now." He smiled.

That smile...he definitely loves her.

Is that how I looked to Mom...?

I...need to know more about him. To really see...

"Tell me more about yourself." I asked.

"Uh...I currently go to Hell High..." He said.

"You do? You must be pretty high ranked then." I replied.

"Well...I think I am at the status of strongest..." He added uncertainly.

"Wasn't it that piece of crap Duncan?" I questioned.

I met him one time. Despite having a girl, he hit on me. I think he also tried to use a Charm spell. Luckily I can resist those kinds of things. We kicked him out quickly.

"Yeah, I beat him. He was cheating on a friend of mine, and when I helped her break up with him he then challenged me." Jackson revealed.

"Wow. Condolences to your friend." I replied.

"Oh, she's fine now. She has her eyes set on someone else now..." He replied, sweatdropping.

"Good for her then." I smiled. Wonder what the strange reaction was about though...

He's really nice...

"Why are you so nice?" I accidentally blurted out.

"What?" He asked, confused.

"Sorry..." I mumbled.

"No, I've just never had someone ask that to me before..." He replied. "I just...want to help my friends, I guess? I don't know...that sounds cringy..." he chuckled.

That smile...

My heart's racing...

He's so nice...

My heart's pumping so much...

He's so much better. All of these teenager vampires just want either my body or my money. He actually looks at me like a person.

He doesn't care that I'm a vampire. He doesn't care that I'm a princess. That's not why he saved me.

To him, I'm a person.

And that's what I need in a partner.

I pulled him closer, kissing him on the lips.

I just gave him my first...

Releasing him, he just looked purely shocked.

"I choose you." I smiled
