Krystal knocked on the door. We waited a couple seconds until the door opened, a woman looking very similar to Krystal standing in the door.
She had blond hair just like Krystal. Her eyes were red, unlike Krystal's pink eyes. She had fox ears and six fox tails, opposed to Krystal's four.
"Krystal!" She happily hugged her daughter. "I was so worried!"
"I'm okay Mom!" Krystal laughed, hugging her back. "It's good to see you."
"Yes, it's very good to see you." She smiled at her daughter. "And you brought your...friends." Her voice noticeably died down in excitement as her eyes landed on me.
"...Hello." I greeted.
"...Krystal...why did you bring a boy? That better not be-" Her mother started.
"That's not Duncan!" Krystal quickly informed her. "This is Jack. He's good, I promise."
"Look, honey...I don't want to insult you, but...you thought the same thing about Duncan." Her Mom replied.
"I can vouch for him." Sapphire stated. "My name is Sapphire Caer, a friend of Krystal. It's nice to meet you, Miss Fox."
"It's nice to meet you as well." She smiled at Sapphire. "I've heard a lot about you."
She looked towards me. "I still don't trust you, but I'll let you inside my house. I'm sure you can understand."
"It hurts, but I completely understand." I nodded.
Duncan had tricked almost everybody, though a good portion of it was due to his charm as an Incubus blinding people from the truth.
"Alright then." She nodded. "I should introduce myself! My name is Kali Fox, the mother of Krystal."
She ruffled Krystal's hair. "Mom!" Krystal whined.
"Anna Webb, it's nice to meet you." Anna nodded.
"Jackson. Jackson Walker." I stated. "It's nice to meet you as well."
Kali nodded at us. "Welcome to our house."
She opened the door for us, allowing us to walk in. We entered the house, leaving our shoes at the entrance.
"You arrived just for dinner. Follow me." Said Kali. We followed her into the dining room, where multiple other Kitsunes were.
One of them looked similar to Krystal, but younger and with red eyes like Kali. She only had two tails, less than her sister. The girl was about ten years old. She rushed out of her seat, giving Krystal a big hug.
"Krystal! You're back!" She happily smiled.
"Who is this?" Sapphire curiously asked, looking at the younger girl.
"This is my younger sister, Mami." Krystal stated.
"Hello!" Mami greeted.
One other Kitsune sat at the table. She was older, her hair gray and tied up in a bun, she looked up to us, giving us a small smile. She had six tails, all which had grayed like her hair.
"Grandma!" Krystal happily said, hugging the old woman.
"Oh Krystal, it's so good to see you." The Grandma happily smiled. "How are you?"
"I'm good." Krystal smiled. "How are you?"
"Feeling as good as ever." Lightly chuckled Krystal's Grandma. "These are my friends."
Krystal's Grandma looked towards us, giving us a small smile. "It's nice to meet you three."
"It's nice to meet you as well." Sapphire nodded.
"You can introduce yourselves once everybody is here." Krystal told us. "So you don't have to keep repeating."
"Alright." We nodded.
Kali sat down at the table, before giving us a nod of approval. We sat down, Anna sitting next to me on my right and Krystal on my left. With Kali's gaze on me I could she didn't like that.
I didn't even do it!
Sapphire sighed, taking the seat next to Anna as Mami scrambled to the seat next to Krystal. She glared at me once sitting down, clutching onto Krystal's arm.
This whole family is against me...Well, except for the Grandma. She was quite nice.
"Dinner's done!" Someone stated.
A really buff Kitsune walked into the room, with seven tails behind him. A scar ram down his right eye, and he looked downright intimidating.
Well, if it wasn't for his "Kiss The Cook" apron he was wearing. He held some plates which he placed onto the table.
I feel like Brutus and him would get along well.
"Wow, this is a lot." Krystal stated.
"I had to make a lot, my baby daughter came back home!" The man happily said, kissing Krystal's forehead.
"Dad!" Krystal yelled, her face going red from embarrassment. "I'm not a baby!"
"I know, I know." He chuckled. He looked towards us. "It's nice to meet you. You must be her friends?"
"We are." Sapphire nodded.
The Dad nodded, sitting at the table. He looked over to the Grandma. "Where is Dad?" He asked. "Do I need to go get him?"
"No, he'll be here in any moment." Smiled Krystal's Grandma.
The door to the house opened as footsteps echoed throughout. An older man with gray hair walked in, eight gray tails behind him. He wore some sort of robe, the kind you would wear at a dojo for karate.
"Oh, dinner's ready?" He asked.
"You're just in time, Dad." Smiled Krystal's Dad.
"Good. I'd hate it if the food was cold." Krystal's Grandfather replied. He glanced over to Krystal. "Welcome back, Krystal."
"Hello Grandpa." Krystal smiled.
Her Grandpa nodded back, sitting down next to his wife. "So, who are these people?"
"My name is Sapphire Caer." She greeted. "It's nice to meet the Fox Family."
"So, you're a dragon?" Questioned Krystal's Grandpa as he looked at her horns. "You strong?"
"I'm...not the strongest." She slowly admitted. "But I'm currently training to become stronger."
"Hm." The Grandpa grunted. "You have a fire in you, that's good. Don't lose it."
Does he mean literal or figurative, because she literally does have fire inside her when she breathes fire, since she's a Dragon.
"You?" He looked over to Anna.
"Anna Webb, it's nice to meet you all." She introduced herself.
"Oh, are you the daughter of Madam Webb?" Lightly gasped the Grandma.
Even they known of Madam Webb? Wow.
"Yeah." She nodded.
"Madam Webb helped me quite a bit before." The Grandma smiled. "She's a nice woman."
"And then, you?" Grandpa asked, looking towards me. The air seemed to become tense and stifling as everyone stared at me. I took a deep breath.
"Jackson. Jackson Walker." I stated. "It's nice to meet you."
He stared me in the eyes. I didn't back down, staring back into his eyes. For a moment I thought I saw something, but that vision was quickly lost and forgotten.
"Hmm...interesting." He shrugged, leaning backwards.
Krystal's Dad looked at him strangely, before sighing. "Alright everyone, let's have a good dinner."
We started to eat the food that Krystal's Dad prepared. I grabbed a couple things, but not too many. Less than everyone else. I didn't want to impose more than I obviously already had.
Once everybody had finally finished dinner, Krystal's Grandma stood up, hanging a fortune cookie to each person.
"This is...?" Sapphire asked, looking at it.
"It's a fortune cookie. Have you never had one?" Anna asked.
"No." Sapphire shook her head.
"Fortune cookies have a little slip inside with a fortune." Krystal stated. "But, these are special ones. They're made by my Grandma, which means the fortunes are real."
"They're real?" Anna asked.
"Yep." Krystal's Dad nodded. "I don't know how Mom does it, but she makes them so that only the person who opens it can see the fortune, and that fortune does come true."
He chuckled to himself. "I remember when the fortune said 'A villain creeps from below to take your arm', and then a week later I slipped and broke my arm!"
Really..? That sounds like a coincidence. But all of the Fox family seems to believe that they are real. I'll give it a chance.
Besides, I've always liked opening fortune cookies. I cracked it open, eating the cookie. I held the paper, seeing a blank. I slowly flipped it over, looking at the text imprinted on.
It read, "Your past will catch up to you; the start of the countdown to the end."
...That's not ominous at all.
I pocketed the paper in my pocket. And then I felt something squishy in there. Peeking into my pocket, Boo was in there!
Boo, you snuck into my pocket?! I meant to leave you with the others!
Anna frowned at her fortune, while Sapphire let out a small smile and Krystal cheered. "Yes!" She happily said.
"I see you got something good." Anna sighed.
"It'll be fine." I patted Anna on the back. "Whatever your fortune is, we have your back."
Although I said that to her, I felt I was also trying to say it to myself. Trying to convince myself that everything will be fine.
"It's okay." Sally said. "Even if that ominous fortune does come true, you do have the others. They'll be there for you."
Thanks Sally.
"Well...now that we've had dinner and all, I wanted to ask something." Krystal suddenly said. "Is it alright if they stay here in Shippo for the weekend?"
"Yes, it's fine." Kali smiled, though her eyes when she glanced at me didn't agree.
Seriously, I get it, but those looks hurt. I'm not Duncan...
"Then...I had another thing to ask." Krystal slowly said.
Oh no.
"I want to return back to Hell High." Krystal stated. "So please, can I return with my friends to Hell High?"
"...And why do you want to go back?" Her Mom asked.
"Because of my friends, of course!" Krystal replied. "I have so much fun going there, and I don't want to lose that."
"And also..." Krystal shifted, a blush on her face.
Krystal, please don't-!
"I don't want to leave the man I love." She stated.
The air became tense.
Oh no...
