(Krystal POV)
I woke up, feeling refreshed. I was confidant that we could convince my Mom with a little bit of work. Jack can definitely do it!
But first we should probably have breakfast.
I sat up from my bed, quickly getting dressed and ready for the day before heading to the room next to mine.
I knocked on the door. From behind I heard shuffling until a very tired Sapphire opened the door, her hair a mess.
"She is not a morning person." Anna stated from behind her, completely ready.
Sapphire groaned, walking over to the bathroom as I walked into the room. I closed the door behind me.
"Trust me, I know." I sighed. "I'm her dorm mate. I have to help get her ready every day so she isn't late."
"I have to say, I didn't expect that." Anna giggled.
"Yeah, it is surprising." I smiled.
After a little bit Sapphire came back from the bathroom, almost completely ready. She changed before we started heading downstairs.
Entering the kitchen, Dad was making breakfast. "It's almost done." He smiled at us. "Go sit down at the table."
"Okay! Thanks Dad!" I happily replied.
We passed him, heading to the dining room. Mom was reading a newspaper, sitting at the table. Grandma had her eyes closed. Was she sleeping again? And Grandpa wasn't here. Probably already at the Dojo.
It wasn't long until Dad placed a couple plates of eggs and bacon the table for us. We each grabbed a plate, thanking him. I placed one in front of Grandma, who opened her eyes. A strange look was on her face.
"Grandma..? Is everything alright?" I asked.
"Something is wrong." She narrowed her eyebrows. "But my vision is cloudier than usual. I cannot get an idea..."
Sapphire and Anna glanced at each other, before looking over to me. "Seriously, is your Grandma psychic or something?"
"Not exactly." Lightly chuckled Grandma. "It's all about fortunes."
"Like those cookies?" Sapphire asked.
"That is one way." Grandma mused. "I also use my eyes, though they don't always work like right now. Did you know that eyes are windows to the soul?"
"Really?" Anna asked. "I've heard that saying before...but really?"
"The saying simply means that no matter what mask a person placed on, their eyes reveal the truth." Grandma mystically replied. "I see that young Sapphire has learned this."
"Really?" Anna and I asked, looking at Sapphire.
"Well, looking at someone's eyes is one of the main ways I'm able to determine whether someone is lying or not." Sapphire nodded.
"Wow." I gasped. "That's really cool."
"Thanks." Sapphire smiled. "But going back to that thing about something being wrong...what do you mean?"
"I'm not sure." Grandma sadly shook her head. "Usually my eyes can grasp a vision, some sort of idea. A person, a place. Any sort of hint. But I cannot see anything. Except for that something is wrong."
"That's...unsettling." Anna muttered.
"Agreed." Mom sighed. "Does it have to do something with that man?"
"Mom! I've told you, he's good!" I argued.
"And I've told you, I don't trust him Krystal." Mom replied. "But he's left now, so it can't be him."
"About that..." I replied.
"What?" Mom looked over to me. "He didn't sleep here. I very much doubt that anybody else would give him lodge. So what do you mean?"
"He slept outside." I stated.
"Hm...a loyal man." Hummed Grandma.
"Are you kidding me?" Groaned Mom. "He's still here?! Damn it!"
"Honey, calm down." Dad patted her on the back. "He hasn't done anything to us."
"I know." She sighed. "I just...I don't like it."
"I get that." Dad smiled. "It'll be fine. I promise."
"Alright." She sighed.
I sent a grateful look over to Dad, who lightly smiled at me in response. After finishing our breakfast, the three of us headed out to go get Jack.
We walked through the town, Anna and Sapphire looking around. They smiled, seeing all of the happy Kitsunes. We were all a small family, this community.
"This place really is nice." Sapphire commented. "Everybody likes you."
"Everybody likes everybody here." I smiled. "We're all like a happy family."
"Then why did you leave?" Anna curiously asked.
"There's nothing wrong with this place." I replied. "But...I dunno, I just wanted to explore I guess. I wanted to see the world, instead of being cooped up here for a long time."
"And I found a perfect opportunity for that in Hell High." I continued. "And then, as time went on, I made more friends and started to really enjoy my time there."
"Yeah...it is a great place." Sapphire smiled. "We'll convince her. I promise."
"Thanks." I smiled towards the two.
"Krystal!" Newton yelled, running up to me.
"Who is this?" Sapphire asked.
"My childhood friend Newton!" I happily replied. "Newton, meet my friends Sapphire and Anna!"
"It's nice to meet you." He smiled, pushing up his sunglasses. He extended his arm.
Sapphire looked at it for a second before giving it a shake. Anna then gave it shake, and he then moved his hand away.
"Hey, I wanted to say something." He looked around, before looking at me. "I get bad vibes from that man Jack."
"Don't insult my boyfriend." Anna dangerously growled. Sapphire narrowed her eyes at Newton. I was also slightly annoyed.
"Oh, he's your boyfriend?" He asked, looking towards her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to insult him or you...it's just...I don't know, it's almost like I felt something dark from him."
"Thanks for your concern Newton." I replied. "But I completely trust Jack. There's no need to worry."
"Alright then." He nodded. "I just wanted to let you know since...Duncan."
"Again, thanks." I smiled at him. "But he isn't like Duncan. I promise that."
"Alright then." He sighed. "I'll leave you with your lady friends now. Let's catch up later!"
He ran off.
"I don't like him." Sapphire stated.
"I'm also annoyed that he said that about Jack." I nodded. "I mean, he's half-Angel! Something dark coming from him makes no sense! But he's just worried, like Mom was."
Sapphire sighed. "Hm...alright."
I took them to the lake. We arrived there, but I couldn't find Jack. Did he wake up? Or maybe he didn't sleep here specifically, but somewhere else?
"He was sleeping here, right?" Sapphire asked.
"I don't know." I replied. "I thought he was, but I left before he actually fell asleep. He might of went somewhere else to get a more comfortable spot."
"Let's split up and look for him." Anna stated. "I'm a little worried...with all that your Grandma said."
"I Agree." Sapphire nodded. "I'm a little unsettled. It's probably paranoia, but..."
"Alright." I nodded. "Lets split up search."
We went separate ways, looking for Jack. I figured that he couldn't have gone far, so I searched the small first around the lake.
I had been here for a good ten minutes when suddenly someone tapped me on the shoulder. I whirled around to see Jack!
"Jack!" I happily cried. "There you are!"
"Hey." He smiled. "What's up?"
"I was looking for you!" I replied. "You weren't at the lake."
"Sorry." He sheepishly smiled. "I wanted to surprise you."
"Surprise me? Why?" I curiously asked.
"You look really cute, you know." He suddenly stated.
"Huh?!" I exclaimed, my face going red.
He walked a little towards me as I backed up in embarrassment. My back hit a tree, where Jack put his hand against it in a kind of kabedon.
"I was thinking it over last night." He stated. "And I think I've fallen for you. I'm sorry I rejected you last night."
"Jack?!" I exclaimed, my face heating up more.
He leaned down, going to kiss me on my neck. As his face got closer, I thought about what happened to cause this sudden change. And then I realized.
I pushed back Jack, glaring at him.
"Who are you?!" I demanded.
"What?" He replied, confused.
"Who. Are. You." I growled, staring him in the eyes. I realized what Grandma had meant. As I looked into his eyes, I could tell.
This isn't Jack.
"And where is the real Jack? Tell me!" I demanded.
"Damn." The Fake Jack sighed. "I was hoping that would work. It would only make sense that you would figure that out. The one downside to you being a genius."
My blood ran cold. Whoever this was...they were one of us. A Kitsune. And their illusions were stronger than mine.
He gripped my arm. I tugged at it, trying to get him to let go. "Come on, don't be like that." He shook his head. "Don't make this harder than it needs to be."
"Let go of me!" I smacked him across the face. He refused to let go, pulling me along.
I hated this. I couldn't use my own illusions, they would just see through them. And if their illusions were strong enough, then they might not even be touching me. It could be an touch illusion, tricking my mind into thinking someone is there.
What could I do..?
I continued to struggle, whacking him. It didn't seem to have any affect no matter how many times I hit him. He looked towards me, his other hand reaching towards my chest.
No! I tried to push it sway.
"Krystal?!" Someone shouted, pounding footsteps against the grass and leaves getting closer.
"Krystal?!" I heard another person shout. "Newton said he saw that man-!"
Mom appeared in front of us, staring at the struggle currently going on. Anna and Sapphire appeared behind her, staring in shock.
No, no no no no no.
They're framing Jack! They're framing Jack! I tried to tell that to them, but all that came out was a sob from my fear.
Mom's face twisted into fury. "I knew you weren't to be trusted, but to go this low?" She growled.
No! It's not him! It's someone else!
She pulled her hand out, blue fire raging in her palm. "I am going to incinerate you." She snarled.
Before she could do anything, a chain shot out from nowhere and wrapped around the Fake Jack's neck. He choked, as the chain suddenly yanked him down to the ground.
He tumbled to the ground, coughing as the chain retracted. I followed the chain, gasping as I saw who walked out into our view.
Jack glared at the fake, his face at a level of fury I hadn't seen from him since Duncan. He was even angrier than when Mom and Grandpa aggravated him.
He was also noticeably soaked.
"Do. Not. Touch. Her." He growled.
I looked in his eyes, and I saw it.
It was the Real Jack.
