We laid in bed, my arm around Anna as she laid against my chest. We sat in silence, simply enjoying each other's body warmth after everything that had happened.
"Hey, Anna..." I spoke up. "There's something I need to tell you..."
"What is it?" Anna asked.
"I think I'm starting to fall for the others..." I awkwardly admitted.
"...This is literally the worst pillow talk topic you could go with." Anna deadpanned.
"Sorry." I replied.
"No, it's fine." Anna laughed. "I knew this point would come eventually. I'm just glad you're so worried about it. It's fine with me."
"Seriously?" I looked at, surprised.
"Yeah." She replied. "They're bonded to you through that system, just as I am. And besides...I also care for them. They're better than some random weirdo."
"Just promise me..." She whispered. "That you'll still always love me."
"I promise you." I kissed her on the head. "I do, and will always, love you."
"What was that, a proposal?" She giggled.
"It could be." I smiled.
She blushed, before lightly looking away. "We can think about that once everything settles down, mister. She then grabbed me, smashing her lips onto mine.
After another "session", we finally got up to head to breakfast. As much as I miss Sally, I'm glad she didn't hear any of that.
Where are you, Sally?
We walked to the dining table, where the others were already starting to get served their food.
"You're late." Dracula said. "A king can't be late."
"Sorry." I apologized, sitting next to Dawn as Anna sat down next to me.
Dawn glanced at Anna. "Why does she look like she's glowing?"
"She had a good dream." I replied, while it wasn't completely a lie, it definitely wasn't the main reason.
"Must have been a really good dream..." Dawn replied, analyzing Anna.
Throughout breakfast I talked with the girls, while Dracula grumbled to himself and Carmilla giggled at our interactions.
"Do you have a library?" I asked, finishing up my breakfast.
"Yes. It's over down that way, final doors." Carmilla pointed down one of the hallways.
"Thank you." I nodded to her. A butler grabbed my empty plate, taking it back to the kitchen. "I'm going to head there. I'll see you guys later."
"Okay." They nodded.
I walked down the hallway, pushing through the final doors to find a large library filled to the brim with books. My goal was to find anything about a possibility of demonic and holy magic working together.
I can't die yet. The bursts of pain are inhibiting me when I'm in battle. And it's getting harder and harder to hide from the others.
I started to look around, and I found one book about holy magic, but a quick skim through it revealed that it didn't have anything about how it mixes with demonic magic.
"What are you looking for?" A gruff voice suddenly asked from behind me after some time of searching.
"Dracula?" I questioned, looking at him. "You're going to help me?"
"Only so you can actually get to training quicker." Dracula sighed. "I don't know why you're wandering around the library."
"Do you have any books about holy and demonic magic?" I asked.
"Yeah, plenty." Dracula replied. "They're easy to find."
"I mean, like both in the same book. Anything about mixing them or something?" I asked.
"Holy and demonic magic are complete opposites." Dracula replied. "It's impossible to fuse them. Their whole existences reject each other. Why do you think the Angels and us Demons were such big enemies back in the day?"
"I-I was just wondering." I laughed it off.
Damn it. Is there seriously no way?
"Why do you even want to know about that?" Dracula sighed. "It's not like-"
An agonizing pain suddenly hit my chest. I shoved my elbow into my mouth, letting out ragged coughs into my sleeve. I stumbled, before supporting myself with the bookshelf.
I moved my arm from my mouth as the coughs died down, my sleeve now stained with blood. I looked up, only to see Dracula starting straight at me—and the blood on my arm.
Crap.
"Shit." Dracula realized. "You're part Angel if I remember right, already something that shouldn't be possible, but you also have that demon arm...your body is tearing you apart from the inside. You're dying."
"...yeah." I admitted.
"You got to be kidding me." Dracula growled, clutching his face in annoyance. "Fine. I'll do a sweep of the library, see if I find anything."
"Thank you." I replied, surprised by his generosity.
"Whether I like it or not, you won my daughter's heart." Dracula sighed, looking away. "You can't die yet. And especially in such a lame way."
"Thanks..." I replied. "But don't let the others know, please."
He glanced at me. "You'll have to tell them soon. And the longer you wait, the more hell they'll give you. They want you to stop doing things alone. Maybe you should realize that."
The then walked off, leaving me alone. Well, I better get back to searching. As I searched though, I couldn't help but think about those words.
It wasn't like I was trying to do everything myself. I'd just rather solve this and never make them worry about it. But if I can't find a way...
A couple of hours later and neither of us found anything. We found many books about how they were polar opposites and always clashed, but nothing about them possibly working together. My situation was such an unique and seemingly impossible one that there was just simply nobody asking this question, and this nobody writing books to answer it.
Angel-Demon hybrids shouldn't exist. Yet, due to my strange circumstances, it became possible.
My next best bet is to continue leveling up. Maybe in the shop there will be some sort of item that can help me. It was a stretch, but it was a semblance of hope that gave me the motivation to keep moving.
And I need to become stronger anyways, so it's a win-win.
With that not working, I then devoted most of my time to training. I sparred with some of the girls, worked out, practiced my skills, and just continued to work on being stronger.
After a couple days, I had gotten to this point.
