I stood silently in the empty void of the room, slowly darting my eyes for any sign of light but not a single thing to be seen except for the black walls that felt like if I was in a vast room without a wall except for an endless hall.
Not even a sound could be heard.
I glanced down at my hand, the very palm of mine was open, and I stared blankly at it 'Did I die?' I thought to myself.
My mind was blank, and I couldn't think of anything except the question that has been lingering in the back of mind for a while now.
'Did Kaido survive the gun shot?'
A long distressful sigh left my lips, and I closed my palm then to look up and scan my surroundings again. 'Where am I?'
"Hello, is there any living soul inhabiting this dark and sorrowful place?!" I called but to get no response. "I'm not surprised" I scratched the side of my head before walking on an endless walk in the middle of an unknown nowhere.
The sound of my footsteps echoed through, bouncing off the visible walls. It gave me a chilling feeling as if I was some sort of escape room in a horror movie.
From the corner of my eye, I saw a small light. I instantly turned around and my eyes laid upon a small figure that stood silently in the corner. I squinted my eyes to get a better look, long silver wait hair that came down the figures shoulder's and its bangs covered it's face. The figure wore a laced white dress that came down to its knees.
That's when I realised it was a little girl, standing there without a word with her hands gently slumped beside her while a faint glow outlined her figure.
"H-hello?" I was able to mutter after a few seconds of dazed silent. The little girl didn't respond but to slowly turn to the side and walk off without a single hearing of her heels against the ground.
"Hey, wait!" I called out but the little girl did not respond and continued to walk with her back towards me. "Fuck" I mumbled to myself then to run after her.
I had thought I would reach her, but she was suddenly so far away from me, so far that it felt like I was being pulled back while she grew smaller and smaller from my vision before her light disappeared.
"Are you kidding me?" I whispered, searching in the midst of the dark for the little girls light when a sudden innocent giggle sent a shiver up my spine.
"Mhmhmhm" I felt the presence of a little girl pass me and I swiftly turned around, my shaken eyes darting around to see nothing but black.
"I'm not playing these games! Came out!" I shouted. My voice was getting clogged in my throat. This vibe feels like if I'm in some haunted house with a spirit lurking in the shadows. I hate ghost children; they scare the shit out of me.
There it was again, the same chilling giggle that sounded to innocent. Another chilling presence past from behind and I quickly turned around again but to found no one.
"Fuck this shit I'm leaving." I told myself. With a swift turn, I walked back to the direction of where I came from... Well, I hope so since wherever I turn everything is the same that I don't have a clue which way I had come from however it's better then standing there in the presence of that little ghost girl.
"Where are you going?" the whisper of the little girl made my skin crawl.
'Somewhere far away from you of course'
"You cant leave this place unless he lets you"
I froze in my tracks, the sudden feeling of déjà vu crawled up my skin. 'Who?'
"Oi, where am I? Am I dead?!"
"Shh~ we don't want to disturb him." her innocent whisper echoed around me. "hehehe~" soon her giggles took over.
'So much for quite'
Immediately after her giggled fainted a sudden cool wind blew from behind, the sounds of my flapping white lab cloak whooshed behind me, and I held my stance so the wind wouldn't blow me away.
"Big sis Artemis can you train me to run and hide in the shadows like an assassin, like how you did when you took down the edge lords?" when the wind had died down a child voice had taken over. I felt my body stiffen when I heard the name of my sister.
The idea of an unfamiliar person having the same name of my little sister crossed my mind for a moment. It was just coincidence when suddenly "Maybe if you shut that hole in the middle of your face I might reconsider" her voice had struck a core to my heart. The tears burned the corners of my eyes and the trembling of my lips made it difficult for me to speak. How long have I waited to her voice again?
"Artemis!" I turned around and I saw her. My little sister's long jet-black hair danced gently with the rhythm of the wind, the dark teal of cloak that looked like a haori flowed to the side. It was her, it was Artemis walking along side a child that wore the most ancient looking clothing and looking closer was a fox. A beautiful orange fox that jogged slowly beside her, it's tail swinging side to side as it walked.
They were slowly getting further and further away from me, away from my grasp. 'No, No. I can't Artemis go. Not again.' I hurried after her but no matter how fast I ran she was getting further away from me. The terror of losing her again darkened the back of my mind and the fear clogged my throat refusing me to call out to her.
I stretched out my hand to grab a hold of her, to stop her from walking away, to tell her I'm right behind. 'Your big brother is right here, turn around.'
"ARTEMIS!"
There was a sudden gust of wind that blew towards me, and I was forced to shelter my face from it. It was a cold and icy wind that felt like it was constantly piercing my face with its shards of ice. When it stopped, I slowly peeked my head from my arms.
My heart had jumped to my throat, and I felt my knees become weak.
Her beautiful ruby eyes gazed wistfully towards me, tears ran down her cheek and the colour of her skin glowed under the moonlight of the night. Black hair that faded into the dark night flowed rapidly beside her as she stood in the edge of a cliff while holding a glowing crystal in her arms, hugging it tightly as if it was her child to protect.
She looked at me with a sorry expression on her face as if she was telling me everything was ok, and she was sorry for doing this.
I began to cry seeing her like that, my voice began to tremble. She wasn't going to do what I thought she's going to do. Please no, please no, no, no "A-Artemis. D-don't stand there, you will fall." I tried to coax her to come here, so she wouldn't jump.
The wind howled angrily at me, and I tried to hold my balance together.
A painful smile crossed her delicate face as the tears came falling down her cheeks. The memory of the same painful smile of that day came back to me. My whole body trembled, and I wanted to move my feet and stop her, but I couldn't, my body wouldn't react.
"It's alright Artemis. Your big brother is here, there's nothing to be afraid of. Come to me"
She mouthed something to me, and I couldn't hear anything, I wanted to call out to her again, but I was too late, I watched as she fell back with the crystal hugged against her chest.
It felt like my whole world had slowed down as I watched her fall, my heart hammered in my chest and my mind went hazy, eyes had widened in horror. "ARTEMIS!" my hand grasped nothing but thin air.
I had failed again. I failed the second time. I couldn't save her. I failed as an older brother.
I ran after her nearly stumbling over my feet. When I reached the end of the cliff I didn't hesitate to jump after her. I soared down with the wind cutting the very skin of my skin, I held out my hand for her for to hold.
My tears flied out and the sound of my pounding heart had taken over my hearing.
If I could reach her, just to hold her once again even if it meant we were both to die. I just want to hold her in my embrace just once more.
Wistful ruby eyes looked straight up at me with the reflection of myself in them desperately trying to reach her.
"Brother" her gentle voice was clear to my ears as if she was close to me not so far down.
I smiled feeling my throat tighten. "Artemis"
