We moved along the forest path, the clashing of water being our navigator. As we ambled our way through, the sounds of whooshing water became louder, and the path became rocky as we leached closer.
Jackal and Homura followed close by, both of them quite as they kept with my pace.
The rocks beneath us vibrated beneath my feet, it travelled through my body, and I felt it tingle the tips of my fingertips. It was a quick adrenaline that shook my core, an excitement that sparked inner curiosity.
I could hear my own breathing amongst the forest sounds.
I had always wanted to see a waterfall in a fantasy world. There was always something magical about it then the ones seen in the real world. Maybe I will get to see another beautiful creature just like the Kautegris back in Viridis forest.
We soon rounded to the corner and the source of the sound revealed itself. I was breath taken at the sight of what my icy blue eyes had laid upon.
It was like I was seeing silver tear tracks on the wrinkled face of the cliff, plunging into the depths of a paradise-blue pool with its transparent glow as layers of beautiful smooth pebbles which lay at the bottom of the water that flowed beneath the cliff we stood on. Then the water foamed into lather at the base.
The air itself was fresher to breath in and it tasted like fresh flowers in the spring.
The cataract noise echoed loudly through the forest. As I neared, the waterfall seemed to merge into separate strands of liquid fabric. It appeared as if a loom of silver liquid was pouring down the rocks. The noise had become rhythmic. The spray struck the pool's enormous bottom like a thunderclap. It roiled and bubbled down the hillside, boiling and churning. The pool supplied two smaller waterfalls, which were not as loud.
"So pretty" Jackal beamed, his silver eyes glittered like the crystal rays of the sun that danced on the surface of the blue paradise water. His mouth widened in a huge 'o' grin.
"Do you think the water will get dirty if something muddy jumps in?"
My mood dropped the moment Homura questioned something so silly. I could feel my vein throb and my eye twitch. 'Could he not ruin something so wonderful for one moment?'
"Or maybe get yellow if some creature pisses in it?" he continued on while he peeked his head down at the edge of the cliff as his amber eyes stared with curiosity into the paradise water. "It doesn't look that deep either. Would that human brat die if he jumps - AHHHH!"
I watched Homura zip down through the air, screaming loudly that could wake up any hibernating ancient beast from a km radius. His paws wailed around and his howl cursed my name "ARTEMIS YOU-" He didn't get to finished what he was about to say as he plunged into the depths of the blue water with a plop that wasn't loud as the waterfall. Air bubbles arose from the water and popped when it reached the surface.
"Oops, my leg slipped" I said sarcastically then to lower my feet back to the ground. Jackal tensed when my eyes shifted to the side to look at him. His mouth zipped shut, hands instantly making its way to his side like a startled soldier.
"Oh no. Homura is in deep trouble. You must dive in there and save him" I said like a bored yet sarcastic narrator, dull and expressionless.
"B-but-" he stuttered but was interrupted by me.
Crossing my hands against my chest and leaning my hip to the side I said "Training purposes mate"
"Y-you c-can't just tell m-me to do something and say it's for training purposes" he tried to argue with me with the best courage he could muster up.
I glanced side to side looking as if I was looking for his opinion around me. "Mind telling me whose the person who was willing to put all her energy left to train an annoying, stubborn brat like you? Because you know there are a lot of other people who could do it, but they aren't going to be good as me though" I shrugged, shaking my head in disappointment, and sighed.
Jackal gulped down, his Adam apple bobbing as he peeked his head out to the edge of the waterfall.
Homura was scrambling up like a dramatic person who was drowning in a public pool, his little paws scrambling to lift him up as well as he gurgled and cursed me.
"Homura's dying" I tuned, admiring my almond nails that need to be cut a little shorter since it was growing longer than I need it to be.
To be clear, Homura is just being dramatic right now. He knows how to swim, all foxes do. He just wants me to jump in and save him so he could bite me to death in the water.
Don't think I don't know that princess fox intention.
"Is it even safe if-"
"Oh get in already" I kicked his ass down the cliff, seeing him wail like a maniac in the air. Hands and feet shaking widely as he spun like a slow fidget spinner in the air before his whole body splattered like spread out starfish on top of the surface water, front body flat like a pancake on the water.
'Oof that would leave a mark.' I winced back.
My lips twirled inwards, and I glanced side to side in guilt as if was looking for someone to shift the blame to.
Taking a last glance down at the two idiots scrambling about in the water, I turned around and left "Now I'll just find my own way down".
As I begin to walk to find my way to the two idiots at the bottom of the cliff, something caught my attention and I zipped my head to the side. Swiftly getting into a defensive stance as I zipped my hand to the handle of my Katana, grasping tightly as I unsheathed the blade by a cm.
What my eyes had laid upon, immediately had brought ease and I relaxed my stance, standing back straight and sheathing my Katana.
Standing not far from where I stood, in front of a lushes green bush was a fox.
But this one, this one was the one I had saw in the dark forest of Viridis which had disappeared before I knew it which I had just believed that I was seeing things.
It was like I how remembered.
Small in size, defiantly smaller than Homura. The elegant fox had its harp triangular ears pointed straight into the air as it's beautiful dark blue wedge-shaped eyes stared deeply into my icy blue ones. But something about how it looked at me so charmingly made me feel like I was looking into paradise, a heavenly ocean.
It's elegant beauty bloomed with fur that was a light blue transparent hue all round while a fog like smog flowed out like a steaming cup of hot water.
It was the most beautiful fox or creature I had ever laid my eyes on, and I couldn't stop staring at it's beauty. How bad I wanted to touch it.
As if it read my mind, disagreeing with that idea, the spirit looking fox stood up gracefully and shifted it's body towards the forest.
'Wait don't go. I didn't mean it' I hesitated in my spot, feeling my heart drop. I didn't mean to scare it with my thoughts.
The fox had turned its head to my direction, dark blue eyes that was different than any foxes eyes gazed at me as if it was hinting me to follow it before it leaped gracefully into the bush and disappeared from my sight.
My body suddenly moved on its own and I subconsciously had chased after the spirit like fox into the bush and into the forest.
"Wait come back!" I called out like an idiot. The wind wafted past me quickly and swatted away any incoming twigs that poked out from the tree trunks, making it clear for me to see where the fox was leading me to. It lead me to the parts of the forest that I could not recognise, it was definitely not the way Homura, Jackal and I had come from.
I know following some unknown creature that looked some sort of spirit was a bad idea but something about it made me feel like I could trust it. I don't know why it was this sinking feeling of institution of confidence that it was a harmless creature of light than dark.
Maybe that's just enchantment placed on it's victim to lure into it's den before turning into a horrific monster and devouring me whole.
That's just ridiculous thinking that disappeared the moment it come.
The crashing sounds of water against water began to fade away as I got further away from it.
I shouldn't be leading myself far away from the others. It's not safe for them to be all alone in forest that could have wolves or monsters hunger for human or fox flesh.
I should turn back. Forgot the spirit fox. Those two dimwits need me to be there if something were to happen. So why I can't I turn around, why won't my body do as it's told.
I couldn't stop following it, it was definitely felt like I was enchanted with magic. I chased it down as I made my way down a steep hill, my heels digging into the ground as I slid down the dirty ground before getting back to a run.
The sounds of waterfall disappeared, and I did not hear anymore. My heart pounded and I was feeling stupid for following in the beginning. I was getting worried that my absents will endanger the two fools.
Suddenly the fox turned to the right and ran that way and I too followed suit, leaping over a fallen log, and landing silently on the forest ground.
I watched how the fox gracefully ran, leaping side to side avoiding it's obstacles that came in it's way. I was enchanted by how beautifully its tail will spring up and come falling down when the gravity pulled the fox down to earth.
Diana's stamina had increased by a little then last time, and I could feel myself run longer but it was still not enough than my original body and my feet began to tire out and my lungs gasping for air.
How long left before the fox stops?
How long do I have left before I can stop and take a break? Can I even when I can't even control my own body?
Where is this fox even leading me?
My heart immediately stopped when the faint sounds of waterfalls was heard again, and I couldn't help but smile.
Seemingly my last question was answered.
