"What? How would Ella's father know it?" Dante asked.
"Well, there's a story behind how, but I don't think I have enough time to tell you" Antonio replied.
"Because you're going to die, or is it because the bomb is going to kill us all?" I asked, walking up to them. "Let us out!"
"I can't, I already told you, only your father knows the word for the doors to re-open" Antonio said.
"Figure it out, now!" Dante yelled.
"Sorry, but I'm dying at the moment, because your fiancé just shot me, so I don't think I can think at the moment" Antonio said.
"I'm sorry, but aren't we all going to die? So, just tell us how to escape, connard!" I yelled.
"I thought you wanted to die, so I'm just doing the job for you," Antonio said.
"Che cazzo?" Dante asked. (What the fuck?)
"I know a lot about you Ella. I know that your mother died when you were only three, your father started abusing you at the age of five, you fell into depression at the age of fourteen, you cut yourself many times trying to make the pain go away in hopes you would feel something other than numbness but it never helped, and then you attempted suicide many times, because you got sick of life. And you don't believe in love anymore because of your father's actions towards you" Antonio said.
"How did you-?" I asked.
"Show me your wrists!" Dante demanded.
"No!" I shouted. He grabbed my arm and pulled my sleeves up.
"Oh my- When were you going to tell me!?" Dante asked.
"Never. Can we please try and figure a way out of here!" I shouted.
"I already told you, you can't. We are all going to die. However, it is nice you know. We're going to die together as a family" Antonio said, with a smirk.
"Oh, ferme ta gueule!" I shouted. (Oh, shut the fuck up)
I ran to the doors, banging on them, turning on the knobs, but nothing was working. These doors were never going to open, and we're going to die here. I ran over back to Dante.
"I don't want to die, please. I- I don't want to die... not today, not tomorrow, not ever. I should tell you something if we're just going to die here. Ever since I met you, my life became so much easier, I felt happy for once, I even stopped cutting myself, but when your father took you, I started cutting again, I didn't know what I was going to without you, so I wanted to save you, but I couldn't. You saved me, even if you don't know it" I said.
"We're not going to die" Dante said, hugging me.
"Actually, there's only a minute left before the bomb explodes" Antonio said.
Suddenly, the doors opened. Dante and I turned round to see the doors wide open with a man, waiting for us.
"Come on let's go!" the man yelled. Dante grabbed my arm and ran out.
"Aren't you going to save me?" Antonio yelled.
"Burn in hell, asshole!" Dante yelled.
Dante closed the doors, and ran out the mansion, with my hand still in his. We got in the car and the man started driving. I looked back at the mansion, and saw it explode and fire, consuming it.
"Oh my god, your father" I said.
"I don't give a single fuck about him, he made my life a living hell, and now I just sent him straight to hell" he said, with a smirk.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I'm fine" he replied.
"Fine? How are you fine? Your father and Marco abused you for a week" I said.
"That's nothing; they hurt you for almost a month" he said.
"I'm fine, and I'm glad that you're okay," I said.
"How do you think my father knew the word that could re-open the doors?" I asked.
"I have no idea, I guess we'll never know," he said, as we pulled up to his mansion.
We walked in and Camilla hugged me.
"Oh my god, you're okay and so is my brother!" she shrieked.
"Yeah" I said, pulling away.
I could see Alessandro resting on the couch; he was okay, thank god. Camilla went to hug her brother and I noticed that my dad and Charles were still waiting here.
"What are you still doing here?" I asked my father.
"Your husband owes us money, remember?" he said.
"Che cosa?" Dante asked. (What)
"Ella and I made a deal, where if I were to help her, you had to give us half a million" my dad said.
"WHAT?" Alessandro yelled, standing up.
"Sit back down, you're still injured" Camilla told Alessandro.
"No, not before Ella here tells us what the fuck she did!" Alessandro yelled, walking over to us.
"I wasn't thinking, I wanted Dante back alive, so I made a deal with them that he would pay them half a million. Plus, Dante's life was on the line!" I shouted.
"I'll give you the money, if you tell me how only you knew the word for those two doors to re-open" Dante said.
"Fine if I must and Dante you might want to hear this, because it involves your father" my dad said.
"Sure, just start the story" Dante snapped.
"Years ago, when I was only six years old my parents abandoned me, and I was left all alone in the middle of the street. I had to fend for myself, I was terrified, I didn't know how to survive on my own, until a woman found me. She took me in as her own, she loved me just like I was her real son" he explained.
"What was her name?" I asked.
"Taylor Colombo" he replied.
"She was Italian?" Dante asked.
"Yeah, I'm Italian" my dad replied.
"What?" I shouted.
"I was born Italian, but I moved to France and changed my surname to a French one" he answered.
"Why did you move to France?" I asked.
"Can you let me finish!" my dad said.
"Sorry, continue" I said.
"Thank you. But she already had another son, he was two years older than me; he was eight years old. His name was Antonio Romano" my dad said.
"What. The. Fuck." Dante said.
"Let me fucking continue for the love of god!" my dad snapped.
"Sorry, I just- how the fuck" Dante said.
"It is, and if you don't believe me, ask your father" my dad said.
"He's dead" I said sharply.
"What? How?" my dad asked.
"We let him die in the mansion" I replied.
"Nice, now let me continue. We instantly became good friends, we were inseparable, we really saw each other as brothers. But things changed when we became teenagers, for some reason they started favouring me over him, they favored me, even though he was their real son. They gave me everything and they just ignored Antonio, I felt bad about how they were treating him, so I tried to stand up from him, but they still found a reason to blame him and hate him. At the age of fifteen Antonio got into drinking and he started getting drunk often. When I confronted him about it, he said that it's a great coping mechanism for the pain he was feeling; that our parents were making him feel. I just agreed with him because he was older than me, and I thought that he was right. Then at the age of seventeen Antonio did something extremely absurd. He got a girl pregnant" my dad explained.
"What? You mean, my mother and father were never married?" Dante asked.
"No, it was just a one-night stand and the girl got pregnant with you, I never met the girl though. Anyways I was the first one he told, he was petrified of telling our parents, but he got the courage and told them. They already hated him enough and this just made everything worse, because the night he told his parents, they kicked him out of the house. I had no say in it, because they were going to kick me out as well if I were to stand up for him. I wanted to say something; I wanted to stand up for him, but I was only fifteen, and if they kicked me out, I would have been fucked, so I said nothing and saw him leave. My heart had shattered, he was like my real brother, and I had lost him. I never saw him again after that day. When I turned eighteen, my parents sat me down to talk about something. I stayed quiet and listened, they explained the secret system of the doors and they told me the word that would re-open the two doors if they were locked. I promised I would never say anything about it to anyone, and I kept it. A year later, I couldn't handle the pain of not seeing Antonio anymore, so I took his advice, I got into drinking as well. And I did the same mistake Antonio did, I got someone pregnant, your mother, Ella" my dad said.
"So, I was a mistake as well?" I asked.
"Sort of. My parents found out and kicked me out as well. Your mother was French, so we moved to France together and we fell in love, and we even got married and I took her surname and then we had you, Ella. I never saw Antonio after the day he got kicked out, I saw him again, the day I sold Ella to you. At first, I didn't think it was him, but then I eventually realized that it was him." My dad said.
"So, that's why you both have the same shitty personality, because you grew up together and you took after your older brother's actions" I said.
"Whatever, I told you the story of how I knew it. Now where's my money?" my dad asked.
"Here, take it and never come back" Dante said, handing him a check.
"Goodbye Ella" my dad said, walking out. I stayed silent and said nothing and let him leave.
"I'm sorry" I said.
"It's fine, you did it to save me and plus we found out a lot of things we didn't even know about our fathers" Dante said.
"I still can't believe our fathers were 'brothers'" Camilla said.
"Yeah, me neither" I agreed.
"I'm going to go to bed, I'm tired" I said, with a yawn.
"Wait, we need to talk" Dante said, grabbing my arm.
"About what?" I asked.
"About what my father said about you, don't think I have forgotten about it" Dante replied.
"I-I don't want to talk about that" I said.
"I just want to help, please tell me" Dante said.
"Can we talk in your room?" I asked.
"Sure, come on" he said, leading me to his room.
"Now, can you please promise me not to do it again" Dante said.
"It's not that easy Dante, I can't just stop. I wish it were that easy, but it isn't, I just, I don't want to be in pain anymore, I just want this pain to be gone, I don't want to wake up, wondering why I woke up to another day, or what the point of life is anymore, or if I deserve to be happy, or if, if-" I couldn't continue, I broke down crying.
"Let it out, Ella" Dante said.
"I just don't want to wake up every day, wanting to kill myself!" I screamed. "I don't want to wake up every day feeling like a freaking burden to everyone, or like no one cares, or-" I was cut off when he pulled me and hugged me.
"I'm sorry, Ella. I wish I could do something to make you think otherwise" he said, hugging me tighter. I stayed silent and cried in his chest.
"I'm sorry for you having to see me like this" I said, pulling away from him.
"No! I'm glad you're opening up to me and trusting me enough to tell me all of this" he said.
Suddenly he pulled me by my waist and held me close and my arms wrapped around his neck, I pressed my lips against his and he kissed me back. My hands went up to his hair and his hands went up the back of my shirt.
"Capo, dobbiamo parlare" a man said, walking in on us. (Boss, we need to talk)
"Oh my, I'm sorry" he said, turning around. We parted lips.
"Che cosa?" Dante asked. (What)
"Alessandro wants to talk to you" the man said.
"I'm coming" Dante said, giving the man a sign to leave.
"Grazie, cara mia" he said, kissing my forehead and walking out. (Thank you, my darling)
I could feel butterflies in my stomach if that's even possible. What's going on? What am I feeling? Could this be the feeling of... love?
