XAVIER The early morning air in the imperial castle felt heavy with anticipation as I make my way toward the grand throne room. My footsteps echoed through the vast marble corridors, my mind swirling with questions. Why had father summoned me so early? He rarely did so without good reason.
As I step into the throne room, greeted by its imposing grandeur and the sight of my father, King Roland, seated upon his gilded throne. His presence is as commanding as ever, yet there is a warmth in his expression that eased my nerves. Bowing respectfully, I greets him, "Good morning, father."
He gestured for me to come closer, and as I stand before him, he spoke. "Xavier, I have summoned you to share an important matter regarding the coming new year."
I straighten, curiosity sparking within me. "What is it, father?"
"The imperial castle will host the annual New Year's Ball," he begins, his deep voice echoing across the room. "this year, it will not only celebrate the arrival of the new year but also serve as the occasion to officially introduce you as the Crown Prince of Quesaria. You will be fourteen next year, a fitting age to take on your role publicly."
The weight of his words settled on me, leaving me momentarily speechless. To be officially recognized as the Crown Prince—a responsibility I'd known was mine but hadn't yet fully embraced—felt monumental. "I am... honored, father" I managed, awe threading through my voice.
Father's eyes softened at my reaction, and he continued. "All the noble families of the kingdom will be attending the ball, as is tradition. That includes the Duke of the North, one of your favourites, if I'm not mistaken."
At this, my heart skipped a beat. My particular favourite Duke... I knew exactly who he was referring to. A smiled tugged at my lips despite myself. "Will... will Lady Aveline also be attending?" I asked, trying to sound casual, though the eagerness in my voice betrayed me.
Father's knowing smile deepened. "I would be surpise if she doesn't," he said, his tone teasing. "After all, you seemed quite taken with her during your time at the Duke's castle."
My face burned with embarassment, and I couldn't help but chuckle nervously. "What are you talking about, father?" I asked, though, I knew exactly what he meant.
"You know precisely what I mean," he replied, his amusement clear.
Shaking my head, I tried to hide my bashfulness. "Thank you for telling me, father," I said, bowing once more.
"You are dismissed, Xavier. Prepare yourself for the event," he said with a wave of his hand.
As I left the throne room, my steps were lighter than when I entered. The thought of seeing Aveline again filled me with a quiet excitement that I couldn't quite put into words.
The corners of my lips lifted in smile as I whispered to myself, "So, I'll see her again soon." I am really looking forward for that day to come.
