The next morning the family woke up to another hearty meal. Tang Shushui cooked chicken porridge with orange juice, made apple puree for the baby, then made an additional herbal chicken soup, and told the Shen family to drink it throughout the day. The Shen family was more than grateful to the Jiang Family for the help they received, so they were a little awkward at the table.
"Uncle Shen and Auntie Shen are coming this morning right?" Tang Shushui inquired with a gentle voice.
"Yes, they should be arriving in some minutes." Granny Shen responded with a smile.
"Alright. Yesterday with everything going on I didn't have time to really talk to you guys and your rooms needed a little bit of ventilation, so I couldn't make you sleep in them. I will be showing you guys your rooms after work." Tang explained.
"The rooms we slept in yesterday weren't ours?" Shen Yuan Fang asked bewildered.
"No, since mother-in-law already planned to live with you guys since the beginning, I had your rooms made with care and especially for you. The rooms you slept in were guest rooms. Your rooms need at least one more day of ventilation. You guys each have a room, and the baby too. Since Yuan Fang is married he will have a room with his wife and since both Granny Shen and Uncle Shen are also married they will also have their own rooms with their partners. It's sister-in-law's choice to put the baby in his room, so if you guys have any issues with the arrangement you can come to talk to me." Tang Shushui explained patiently.
"Then we thank sister-in-law in advance for your consideration. We can talk about the arrangements after work." Shen Yuan Fang responded in a thankful voice.
"No problem." Tang Shushui responded honestly. He truly didn't have a problem. Since he was a child he's always wanted a big family and his dream was being fulfilled right now, so what other complaints could he have?
The Shen family slowly started to relax, and joined the chat at the table, they were all interrupted when they heard a knock at the door. Jiang Yanwei placed his bowl down and went to get the door. When he opened them he saw a skinny middle-aged man standing with a ger that looked no better. At one glance you could tell they were malnourished. This fact seemed to pain the Jiang family to no end.
"Come in Uncle Shen and Auntie." Jiang Yanwei said as he went over to support the ger.
"Ah, auntie forgot to bring those roasted snacks you like, you're not angry at auntie are you?" Auntie Shen suddenly recalled and asked as he looked carefully at Jiang Yanwei, he seemed to have forgotten that Jiang Yanwei was no longer a child. Hearing the ger say that, Jiang Yanwei's eyes slowly reddened. No matter how poor, or how much the Shen family suffered they still tried to put them first. Especially Auntie Shen, who always took care of him as a child. He was indeed a brat, getting mad at his auntie for not bringing him snacks when he came back from town after work.
"No, how could I be mad at Auntie? Auntie took care of me when I was a child and now it's my turn to take of Auntie, so Auntie doesn't have to worry about anything ok?" Jiang Yanwei assured, and it seemed like it was Auntie Shen's turn to cry. Seeing how this brat grew Auntie Shen was no longer worried about his future, she was proud to see his growth over the years.
"Jiang Yanwei you never change do you? Every time I come to see you, you always try to steal my wife! What is wrong with you?" Uncle Shen questioned in an angry voice, but the smile on his face betrayed him. He would often joke about this with Jiang Yanwei since he was a child, so Jiang Yanwei himself was used to this kind of joke.
The family joked for a little bit before leading the Shen couple to the shower. Haohao gave them three sets of clothes and two sets of shoes. The couple seemed to be out of it throughout the whole process. This was the first time they had such treatment. They were even more shocked by the food that they were going to eat.
They have eaten porridge before, but it only had a little grain and a whole lot of water. This porridge was not only thick and rich with glutinous rice, it even had chicken, and they were given an additional herbal chicken soup. The Shen couple were reluctant to eat but the Jiang couple didn't give them the chance to refuse. During the breakfast, the Shen couple got to know a little bit about the new family members of the Jiang family. While they were eating they heard somebody knock on the door, the knocks were very impatient and the person was yelling rudely, so tang Shushui went to open the door.
"Hello, what can I do for you?" Tang Shushui asked politely as he opened the door.
"Who are you? Isn't this Jiang Yu Sixin's house?" An old lady asked rudely as she tried to look inside the house from the half-opened door.
"This is the Jiangs house, and my father-in-law is inside." Tang Shushui responded with a less polite tone seeing how rude the lady was. Hearing the voice coming from outside father Jiang's eyes darkened. He immediately got up and went to the door.
"Old Lady Jiang, what are you doing here?" Father Jiang asked his tone relatively flat.
"Is this how you talk to your mother?! What a son I've raised! Now that you're rich you've abandoned your parents? How filial of you!" Old Lady Jiang Yelled as she complained. She seemed to have forgotten that they were separated because of how horribly she treated Father Jiang when he lived in the Jiang family.
"The money does not belong to me but to my daughter-in-law. I had a mother? Then where was she when my wife was on the verge of death after childbirth? When my eldest son was starving? Or when I disappeared for six months? Six months! And not once have you inquired of your eldest son, but now that you've heard about the big house I live in and the successful restaurant of my daughter-in-law you suddenly have a son? And you still dare to call me shameless?" Father Jiang refuted. He was never one to beat around the bush.
He was not the stupid filial type of son that would get his wife and children killed. He was filial to his mother since he was a child, but this mother of his always disliked him because when she was pregnant with him she went through many hardships and almost died at some point. Learning about his mother's experience since growing up he never complained and fulfilled his duties as the eldest. When the Ling war broke out and they started to draft soldiers he went without even waiting for his mother to make a decision, he already knew the outcome would be the same.
He worked hard to earn twenty taels to exempt himself from the war and came back home, but he got scolded for wasting money that he could have sent home for the youngest daughter and son. His mother had loved all the children she had after him since that's when Old Man Jiang got lucky and started making money, she especially favored the fourth child and fifth child. He didn't mind this and stayed quiet but this action chilled his heart quite a bit.
His life finally took a turn for the better when he married his beautiful wife, Wu Ning. She didn't mind hardship and tolerated his family. He loved his wife and didn't want her to suffer so he always told her that he was open to the idea of separation. She wanted to separate but seeing that he was still attached to this family she drank back her bitterness and put up with his family with a smile.
When she became pregnant he was so happy that he immediately went to the country town to find a job so he could feed his wife nutritious food, especially meat. His wife was suffering but she wasn't willing to tell him because of how happy he was. One day after returning from the country town he found his pregnant wife passed out by the village river with a pale face, he was so worried that he rushed her to a physician.
Seeing her situation, he went to inquire about what happened to his wife around the village and then learned what his wife had gone through for the past three months. They made her wash all the family's dirty clothes in the cold river even though she was pregnant, half of the land was left to be farmed by her alone, and even the harvesting was done by her. She was to cook, clean, and farm by herself even though his three brothers were at home, along with three sisters-in-law?
He was so enraged he went and beat up all his brothers and went to ask his mother for a letter of separation and even threatened his father. The old couple was so scared that they hurried and signed the letter. He rented a stipulated house in the village and took care of his wife for two days before going to work only to find out that he was fired because his second brother went there and complained as an act of revenge. Seeing that they were still so cruel, he went to the Jiangs' house and beat up the second son half to death once again.
His wife and him were running low on food, and winter was coming, that's when the Old Shen couple stepped up to help them. During that time he became an exceptional hunter. He became stable enough to build a house with five rooms and fed his wife and his eldest son meat three times a week. He wanted to help the Shen family but they refused because they were scared to get them implicated by the Li family. While doing the trading meat business he was scammed and was almost killed. Luckily he escaped and was left stranded in a forest he didn't know, but the thought of his wife and children kept him going and somehow made his way to the village's gate where a villager saw him and brought him back.
He knew he would die soon, but seeing his wife and children once more was enough. That's when his daughter-in-law he didn't even know existed stepped in and saved him. He was more than grateful. He could now live with everybody he loved, and he only saw Granny Shen as his real mother so he didn't need the mother who abandoned him for such a fickle reason back in life. These types of people don't deserve to be parents. He would also not let them bully his family.
"You! I'm still your mother!" Old Lady Jiang spat back.
"My mother is inside what are you talking about?" Father Jiang said putting his best-confused face on.
"Fine, I only came to remind you to come to dinner on the fifteen every month like it's written on the separation paper." Old Lady Jiang said with a cunning smile.
"Okay, we don't mind." Tang Shushui said with a smile twice as big.
Seeing that she was only punching cotton after exchanging a few words with Tang Shushui she returned home angrily. Tang Shushui assured Father Jiang and brought him back to the table for breakfast.
Tang Shushui and Haohao went to work at the restaurant while the two husbands went to the farm. The husbands were the ones that grew most of the stuff for the restaurant since the fields in the Tang Shushui's space hadn't been upgraded yet. He bought about five acres of land for the husbands to farm and they seemed quite happy doing farm work.
Tang Shushui arrived at the restaurant and the employees immediately came to greet him he made small talk with them and went to train the cooks, especially the pastry makers. After two hours of training, he went to talk to the general manager.
"Li Shi Qing how's the dorm construction going?" Tang Shushui asked as he walked around.
"It's going well, Madam. The base has already been constructed."
"Okay. I will be needing you to hire more art students and pastry makers for me, preferably the ones with low income. Also, I will need some help back at home, do you know where slaves are sold?" Tang Shushui inquired. He wouldn't hire employees to work at his house, he would rather buy slaves. His home would have more confidential stuff so he needed people he knew wouldn't run their mouths.
"Yes, I do madam. How many do you want?" Li Shi Qing asked.
"If you could get me two families with the kids mostly grown, and about five strong men, and at least two or three experienced girls, it would be more than enough." Tang Shushui responded.
"What about the employees?" Li Shi Qing inquired.
"Have at least fifteen art students some of them should be able to design, six pastry makers, and hire somebody you can train to be the general manager for my next project." Tang Shuhsui responded, and Li Shi Qing wrote them down. "Also, how is the bamboo steamer project going?" Tang Shushui inquired.
"It worked Madam, we should have at least twenty bamboo steamers by the end of tomorrow. And I talked to all the people you told me about. I managed to hire the blacksmith and potter. The ceramic maker seemed to be interested in 'glassmaking' so I also managed to hire him. I also hired twenty students with low income to work as waiters like you asked Madam." Li Shi Qing reported.
"Good work. Remind me to give you a bonus on payday." Tang Shushui uttered, impressed.
"Thank you, Madam." Li Shi Qing bowed gratefully.
The restaurant finally opened and there were many new things on the menu. There were chocolate shakes and cakes, coffee to drink, macaroons, and many others. Tang Shushui once again managed to shock the people with his cooking. Tang Shushui's Rose venue never lacked nobles because of how organized the restaurant was. They were more than happy to spend money here, and they always liked to talk to Tang Shushui whose views differed from theirs.
In A Mansion.....
"What do you mean you lost him?" A man asked coldly to his subordinate after listening to his report.
"Master we did not see the spy we asked to follow the ger and she never came back, so we came to the conclusion that she has been disposed of. This means that we don't know of his current actions." The subordinated kneeled as he reported.
"Are you sure?" The man asked coldly. He doubted the ger he saw talking so gently to his son could actually kill somebody so neatly.
"Yes, and he most likely got rid of the body skillfully. I went to the spot where I and the spy were supposed to meet and I only saw this note." The subordinate responded as he handed over the note.
The man, named Zhou Ding Cai opened the note and let out a chuckle reading it. He lightly brushed his fingers against the writing. This was the first time something fun happened in years. He looked at the note that was written once more and his smile deepened.
"I hate being followed, so I killed her on the first day, (I also hated how she looked at me, she loved you and was trying to kill me)and your like super creepy. I have a husband okay? And a baby on the way, so leave me alone or I'll come for your neck next time."
