Before school at Legacy High starts, three small events must happen.

The written exam.

The awakening.

And the physical exam.

The physical exam at the beginning of the year serves two purposes. One is so teachers can examine how the new students act and how quickly they can grasp their new powers. The second is so it can be compared to the physical exam at the end of the final semester.

The students only have two days to train. And that's because the first Tier is pretty simple. It's always the power to create and manipulate an "element", no matter the Arcana. Like how Bianca's Tier 1 allowed her to create and manipulate ice.

So I need to train. This will allow me to have basic control of my element and blend in perfectly with the majority of students. After all, two days isn't that much.

But the first thing I must do is manifest my Arcana for the first time. That is how you unlock the first tier.

I focused on that feeling inside of me that has been inside since my Awakening. I started to tug on that feeling, pulling it out.

And then I felt a weight in my hand. Looking down, I saw how my Arcana had manifested.

A One-Handed Viking Axe. It had a wooden handle with a silver blade. On the blade was the carving of three symbols. A wolf, a snake, and what looked like a math "greater than" symbol, open to the right.

Honestly, this is a pretty cool weapon. I pulled out my Adventurer Card, ready to see what my ability from the first Tier was.

Fenrir. C Rank.

Tier 1 - Fire Element

Fire? Is Fenrir associated with fire? Well, what would it be if it isn't fire? He's a wolf.

Alright, let's see if I can create some fire in my hand. I raised my hand up, palm open and facing towards the ceiling. I closed my eyes, imagining a small blaze of fire on my hand.

A light warmth formed on top of my hand. Opening my eyes, I saw a small flame flickering on my hand.

Hey, controlling the fire isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

And then my whole hand caught on fire.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH-

...

...

...

...

...

"What?" Goku asked incredulously.

"Yep, I caught my whole hand on fire. Controlling the element is trickier than I thought." I replied.

I was now back at the Dojo, here to ask advice from Goku on how I should train for the physical exam. And retell how I burnt my hand. I'm lucky my apartment room didn't burn.

Goku sighed. "I can't believe you did that...how's your hand?"

"It's okay." I replied, showing him the bandaged hand. "Just hurts a little."

"It's bandaged." Goku pointed out.

"Yes. It is." I confirmed.

He just stared at me.

"You know what, you need some help." He sighed.

"You can help me?" I asked.

"I also have an Arcana." Goku grinned.

Wait, what?! Since when?! This was never mentioned in the anime!

"Seriously?!" I gasped.

"Yep." He replied. "A Rank, Tier 9."

He extended his arm out as his Arcana manifested in his hand. It was a large, fiery shotgun. A SHOTGUN.

"This is Vulcan." Goku stated. "It's been a while since I've brought him out."

"Anyways, my Tier 1 also happens to be the Fire Element, so I think I can teach you a few things for your physical exam." Goku stated.

"First, you can't try to control the fire. Fire is an unstoppable wave of destruction. While this sounds bad, it can also be used for good." Goku informed. "In order to truly use the fire element to it's greatest ability, you must let it be free."

Let it be free? "That sounds incredibly dangerous." I retorted.

"It can be, if handled incorrectly. But used the right way, it can be an incredible power." Goku replied. "Don't try to control it. Let it be free."

Don't try to control it...

Don't try to control it...

I created the small flame in my hand, but this time I didn't try to control it and keep it small. The fire started to grow in my hand.

Please don't burn me...

The fire grew and grew, before it slowed down to a stop, staying at about the size of a tennis ball.

"See? You didn't try to control it, and let it roam free. Since you've just awakened your Arcana it isn't that large, but it can end up becoming huge as you become stronger." Goku explained.

He extended his own arm out, palm facing up. In his hand a fire was created, and slowly started to grow in size until it was the size of his head.

"But you're Tier 9. Wouldn't it be larger than that?" I questioned. "And you said not to control it, but this looks like you're controlling it."

Goku chuckled. "Yes, it can be much larger. And it ain't controlling. Rather, it's guiding. You can't control it, but you can influence it to become the way you want. In time, you'll become attuned to your fire and you will understand. It comes with experience."

"Now try manifesting your Arcana." Goku ordered.

In my other hand which wasn't holding the fire I manifested Fenrir.

"A Viking Axe? Interesting." He commented. "Try placing the fire onto the axe."

I did as Goku instructed, placing the fire onto the axe. It spread across the silver, blade of the axe while leaving the wooden handle alone. Interesting how it doesn't burn it.

"And now your swings have a little extra power." Goku stated. "It's small things like this that can change a game."

Goku pulled up his shotgun. "Here's a little trick I invented." Fire started to manifest into the barrel of the shotgun. He aimed the shotgun, shooting it.

A large blast of fire erupted from the shotgun, flying through the air. The fire then twisted, being sucked back into the shotgun.

"I can use the fire as my bullets." Goku grinned. "Neat little trick, eh?"

"Was the fire returning back to the shotgun part of the trick?" I wondered.

"No, that's just so I wouldn't catch my Dojo on fire." Replied Goku, sweatdropping.

"But small little tricks like these can change a game. Remember that." Goku repeated, tapping me on the head.

"Now, as for your axe I might be able to help." Goku added.

"Really?" I asked, hopeful.

Goku really is an amazing teacher. Learning as much as I can from him will be extremely beneficial.

"I've learned many instruments of destruction. Swords, axes, shotguns, rocket launchers..." Goku trailed off.

The fuck did you just say?

"We haven't finished your training with the Dragon Fist Style, correct? Then we can integrate it with the axe now." Goku stated.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Martial Arts isn't just following a set of instructions in a specialized style. Experimenting and changing is part of it. That's how the Dragon Fist Style was created." Goku informed.

"So we should be able to create your own style from a combination of the Dragon Fist Style and my own axe skills. We can call it the Dragon Axe Style." Goku continued.

"So...how will we do that?" I wondered.

"The Dragon Fist Style focuses on dodging and powerful hits in a fluid motion. We'll combine it with your axe to create a fluid motion in which you can deliver strong hits with your axe and hand while dodging the opponent's attacks." Goku explained.

He walked over to a wall where a bunch of weapons, training or real, sat. He grabbed a real axe, weighing it in his hands. Nodding, he deemed the axe as satisfactory.

He walked back over. Holding the axe, he started to instruct me about the axe.

"Most of the weight in the axe is at the front." He stated. "This makes your hits more powerful and chop easier. However, this means that missing a shot can be extremely dangerous, as the weight can lead you forward and give the opponent an opening from behind."

"Keep your axe up and make sure you don't miss your shots. Another important note is that because of the shape of the axe, it is hard to block a shot. You can if you turn it over and use the side as a shield, but it's hard to execute. Luckily for you, the Dragon Fist Style focuses on dodging, so you won't be needing to block." Goku continued.

"You won't really be able to parry either because of the short blade. However, because of it's shape you will be able to hook an enemy's leg or weapon. Use that trick to your advantage." Goku added.

"Now, let's do a small practice run with those new tips." Goku grinned.

Oh god, this is going to hurt...
