Demeltha Ethel Everleigh. She is a commoner raised in a loving family, but in a world full of unique people born with magic, she was an exception who was born with nothing. But one day, the Goddess above loved her beautiful soul and bestowed her a gift, the power to heal and give hope to the world. The Power of Divine.
That was when her parents knew that keeping her for themselves would be so selfish, they didn't want to deprive the world of the ray of sunshine that their daughter can give. Thus they asked her if she wanted to share it to those who need it the most. And being the kind hearted and lovely person she was, Demi agreed happily and departed for the Capital to enter a Prestigious Academy and grow her power to be able to help everyone.
Her face, her personality, everything about her was nice. No wonder even the Duke's Heir who hates the world loved her, and the Prince who was as cold as winter and hard as ice warmed and melted in her presence. The foreigner who was known as someone who would never settle for a single woman changed and dreamed to be with her and no one else and the broken man who built a wall to protect himself opened to her touch.
But of course, like people often say, it is hard to be hated by no one. Even a kind girl had someone who despised her whole being.
The future Empress, Avana Arkwright. The one who secretly made her suffer and acted like a victim in front of everyone, and the sole person who sold her soul just to take everything from her.
"It was you who took everything from me. I am just taking them back."
She was blinded by her greed, she desired to rule the Empire and marry her first love. Betrayed her fiance and cooperated with the villain to kick him out of his throne, unbeknownst to her, she was nothing but a puppet of the Man behind the shadows who was planning on discarding her after she is no longer useful.
And it finally happened. Her judgement has come, after throwing away everything she has, hoping that she could conquer all things that every single person possesses, she was left with nothing. Staring at the aftermath of her own foolish actions, the Marionette felt nothing, her eyes held nothing but pure darkness, it was as if a curse was lifted. She was not built to have a happy ending after all.
Avana died on the hands of the Man she chose to throw away.
"I am at fault for opening my heart to someone who is not you, but I don't regret feeling at ease in the presence of the girl who made me feel as if I was not alone."
Those were the last words she heard before she took her last breath. It was not the person she loved, not the man she sacrificed everything for, it was the man she saw as a stepping stone.
...
"What's that, Lady Avana?" the young Prince pointed at the scribbles at the notebook she was holding. It was the day after their 'small' talk and all of them sat around the small table in the Garden once again. This time, the two young boys were the ones who waited for the Lady to come, and when she asked them the reason why they were there, they answered.
"We're answering the assignments that the Academy sent."
That's why Avy thought she should also do something instead of just staring into space.
"My notes," she said but the Prince just raised his brow in confusion staring at the paper with dots and dashes written on it.
-/•-/•••/•/•-• --•/••-/-• --•/•-•/•/-•/•-/-••/•
"How do you understand that?" he asked.
"This is Morse Code. If you know what each symbol stands for, you will be able to read it."
"You invented it yourself? That's amazing." he looked at her in awe which she returned with a deadpanned expression.
"It's created by a man named Samuel Morse, hence the name Morse Code. I'm pretty sure you don't know him, since I'm probably the only person in this world who does," she told him and closed her notebook to avoid any further questions from the boy.
"Is he a friend of yours?"
Avy was quiet irked by how curious and carefree the Prince was, she's not really used to conversations nor does she want to converse with people, much more to a child who looks like he was pampered all his life. And being a Prince he was, the possibility is high. She doesn't have that much patience to deal with those kind of people, she might end up yelling at him and that wouldn't give her anything but problems.
"I thought you we're doing your homework, Your highness?"
"I'm stuck. I'll just ask my brother once he gets home." he shrugged and leaned back his chair comfortably and started playing with his lightning magic.
"Why don't you just ask Ciel?" she told him and shifted her gaze to her brother who was staring at his paper intensely.
"I'm afraid I can't, sister. We're both stuck. B-but I'm trying to figure it out," the young Arkwright responded without his eyes off the book he was using an reference.
"Let me see." Avy gestured him to hand her over the book, but Ciel just stared at him for a couple of second before speaking.
"It's Arithmetics, sister. Don't you hate this subject?"
"Give it to me. I'm good at it," she said and snatched the book from his hands. She looked at it for no more than ten seconds and snorted cockily, of course it was nothing serious, after all the world she was in was far old than the era she grew up in. Even if it was normal, she would still be able to answer it, she may look like she only knows about building scraps but she's pretty confident about her skills in solving numbers.
"Get in here. I won't explain it twice," she said, the boys quickly scurried to her side, curious on how she would solve the problem both of them couldn't.
"These are just fraction, basically the easiest for me." she took her pen and a piece of paper and started writing the numbers down.
"First thing you should do is turn this, you know what it's called right? Into like this. To do that you should multiply this, this one below the line, to this number, this big number on the side, and then add it here, the one above. Do you get it?" she looked at the two who were immerse by how fast and swiftly her hand moved and how easy for them to understand everything she said, they nodded their head focusing on the paper lying on top of the table.
Their learning session extended without them realizing, even Avy didn't get bored while explaining what is what and which is which to the two young men who seems to be more than willing to listen to her.
"You're so smart Lady Avana. Why don't you apply as a Professor in the Academy? You're honestly way better than them." Light praised her, his hostility completely forgotten.
"Sister is only sixteen. Women are only allowed to enter the Academy after their coming-of-age ceremony." Ciel commented, he became quiet comfortable speaking his mind around his sister after a long session where Avy occasionally tells him to say what he wants to say without restrictions.
"Lady Avana-"
"Why don't you stop calling me Avana? I don't like it." Avy cut him off with narrowed eyes.
"Should I call you Lady Avy then?" he asked
"As long as you like it, Your Highness." she busied herself from the food that was bought by the servants earlier after they finished studying.
Light looked at his side and thought of something that would annoy the young swordsman.
"How about calling you something more appropriate?" he said and Ciel was quick to catch on what he was trying to say. He glared at him with eyes saying 'Don't you dare.' but he was too amused to care.
"Sister?" he said.
"Fine by me," Avy nonchalantly stated, she was also, too occupied by her food to care about the young boys' quarrel.
"รtคא ςl๏รє t๏ tђєรє ςђเl๔гєภ."
For the second time ever since she woke up in the novel world, she heard the deep voice that sent chills down her spine. But not like the last time, it was with a sudden pain in her chest that she couldn't breathe for a couple of seconds.
"Are you alright, sister?" Ciel noticed her taking a deep breath, she put down the utensils and brought her hands to her chest.
"Hey. Sister, is there something wrong?" Light asked, they stopped quarrelling and turned their attention to the older female, she was pale, face white as a blank canvas.
"W-wait here. I'm going to call a priest-"
"No." Avy abruptly stood up from her seat. "I'm just tired. I'll be resting." she marched back to the Mansion, leaving the two young lad confused and worried.
~~~
Avy's feet were fast, she can feel her eyelid getting heavier and heavier every step she takes.
"Mi'lady? Did something happen?" Mariel, who was told by her Miss to help out inside the Mansion saw her walking back. Eyebrows almost meeting as she clenched her chest with her hand.
"Don't talk to me. Don't come near me. Go away." she told her off and hurriedly ran back to her room.
"B-but My lady-"
"I said no! Go away!" she shouted at her without looking back. But Mariel didn't think about it, her concern took over that she didn't care about the lady's attitude. As much as she wanted to go after Avy, she doesn't like seeing her upset, she just worriedly gazed at her lady's back until it disappeared.
.
"Just a little more..." Avy was catching her breath as she twisted the knob of the door of her room. She immediately went straight to bed and sighed in relief feeling the fatigue of running fading away as well as her consciousness, she drifted to sleep.
And once again, when she opened her eyes, she was in the middle of an unfamiliar dark room, the only light that can be seen was the sunlight seeping through the curtain of the half open window. It was still in the middle of the day, but the room somewhat felt cold.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart, Mom can't play with you again today." she heard a woman's voice, it was weak yet warm and sweet. She turned herself at the direction where it came from and saw a bed, a figure lying on it and a silhouette of a young girl sitting next to it.
"I don't want to play with you Mom, Uncle said you're sick." it was another familiar voice and it didn't take her long to recognize which person it belongs to. It was the young Avy that she saw in her last dream.
"I'll be better in no time. Mom is strong." she could see the woman's hand caressing the face of the little girl, but she didn't dare to get close.
"Zach visited again today. I tried to play with him but Ashton keeps saying I shouldn't run around. Zach doesn't like playing games though, he's always in front of the river outside the estate wall with Ashton."
"Listen to me darling."
"When you grow up, you should choose who you want to be. Don't be restricted by everyone's mocking gazes."
Avy was standing still, she couldn't see the face of the woman because of the curtain blocking her but she was certain that it was the one on the painting last time.
"If there is something you want, do everything to get it. Use every means necessary to do so."
"Because you can be anything you want. You can do anything you want."
"Anything?" the little girl asked and the woman answered with a soft chuckle.
"Anything." she said.
"....I can do anything I want." the girl repeated
"I love you, my darling daughter."
