Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening or Night whoever is reading this, hope you've been good. Well now you're back here, another chapter, more Nino fantasies, it's what the heart desires right?. Anyway, enough stalling hope you enjoy :)
-------------------------------
"So guys! Who's excited for the field trip that's coming up!?" Yotsuba pumped her fist into the air excitedly. There were about two days before the actual trip began but no one was near the level of excitement that Yotsuba was, everyone was just sitting around the sofas talking.
Fuutaro sighed a big sigh.
"Dude, what's the matter with you?" You ask him
"I got assigned as the executive committee on that test of courage that's happening at the field trip"
"Really? I wouldn't have expected you to do something like that, maybe you're finally spreading your wings, oh how my little Fuutaro has grown" You laugh.
"Dumbass, I told you I was assigned, not volunteered. My class forced it on me when I was solo-studying"
"Wow, that sucks"
"Hey! Is anyone even listening to me!? Uesugi, I already said I'd help you with the test of courage!" Yotsuba said flailing her arms in the air to get our attention.
"Honestly I don't see much reason to be excited for it" You reply.
"But Y/N, did you know that there's a legend tied to this trip?"
"Bigfoot?"
"No not bigfoot, I'm talking about the campfire legend" Yotsuba said holding her hands together like she was about to start praying. "It's said that you'll be bound by fate for life to the partner you dance with at the finale of the bonfire dance that takes place on the last day."
"It sounds really romantic" Ichika adds.
"Yeah It does" Nino agrees.
"Right? So aren't you guys excited?" Yotsuba says holding Nino and Ichika's hands.
"Yeah I guess so" Ichika smiles.
"W-Well I guess I am just a little bit..." Nino trails off, you could have sworn she looked over at you for a brief moment but you just thought your eyes were playing tricks on you.
Miku remained quiet throughout the conversation, Instead just continuing to play Zelda Breath of the Wild on the Switch.
You slap Fuutaro on the back. "Ay, hear that Fuutaro, if it has to do with fate, maybe you'll meet the girl in the pict-" You're cut off by Fuutaro grabbing your lips and holding them closed so you couldn't say another word. The girls looked on in confusion. Fuutaro looked into your eyes so deeply it felt like your soul was being shunned. "Showwy" you barely manage to get out.
"Dumbass" he says as he releases you.
"Fuutaro, what was Y/N talking about, do you have a secret crush?" Nino edged forward on her seat seeing as the opportunity to have some more dirt on Fuutaro had arrived.
"No wonder you two are so compatible, you're equally as dumb and annoying as each other"
"HEY!" Nino and You both say in sync. You look at each other and laugh.
"Wait, Yotsuba, why are you so excited about this legend? Is there something you're not telling us?" You question.
"E-Eh!, No way, I just thought it was...cool!" She says in her best attempt to deflect.
"That's right, you need a partner, has anyone found a partner for the dance yet?" Ichika asked the group. Every soul in the room remained silent.
"Ichika, the rest of us aren't like you and Nino, we don't have people confessing to us every other day" Miku pointed out, which was true, those two seemed to be the most popular quints with the guys in your school, it did make you wonder if the other 3 girls ever got confessed to.
"Yeah...." Added Yotsuba.
"Aw c'mon, don't be like that I'm sure you guys have been confessed to before" Ichika says trying to seal the wound she'd accidently opened on her sisters.
"W-Well yeah but..." Miku went from speaking to mumbling, obviously you knew she wanted to dance with Fuutaro but knowing her she was way too anxious to actually ask him. You glace over to your best friend to notice he was paying absolutely zero attention to the conversation, it was about romance so you weren't exactly surprised.
"But what! Miku you have to grow up at some point and stop being such a kid about this stuff!" Nino said maybe a bit too bluntly for Miku's liking. Another classic Nino vs Miku argument was about to take storm.
"A Kid? You're the one who still sleeps with her plushies every single night"
Nino face lit up red. You leant back in your chair and continued sipping on your drink ready to watch the action unfold. Yotsuba, Ichika and Fuutaro all started to make their way to the kitchen attempting to retreat from the battlefield. Cowards.
"Huh!? You still constantly play all of those video games, you need to work on your feminine charm"
"You are the last person I would go to about feminine charm, look at your stupid pointy fingernails" Miku said coldly, looking down upon Nino's fingers.
"As if you would understand my fashion sense, you still constantly carry around those tacky headphones as some budget accessory" Nino harshly retorted.
Miku seemed to be on the backfoot as she cared a lot about her headphones, it was honestly a pretty low blow from Nino but you knew what she was like so it wasn't surprising.
"Alright you guys, relax a bit" You interrupt
"But she started it!" They both say in unison with a synchronized pout.
"Yeah yeah, whatever you say" You walk towards them and put a hand on each of their heads and pat them both. It seemed to have calmed them both down somewhat as they broke away from each other and sat on opposite ends of the sofa.
"There's no point..." Miku sighs
"In what?" Nino asks with concern in her voice.
"In being excited for the bonfire"
"Why not!?"
"B-Because even if it is all this mythical stuff, I have no clue how to dance." She replies. Miku did make a good point, she didn't seem like your natural born dancer so it must only add onto her already existing anxiety about the whole event.
"In that case, why don't I teach you?" You offer a hand out to her so she can stand up and dance with you. Miku looks at you confused and Nino looked at you like you had just stabbed her in the back.
"Are you sure Y/N?"
"Of Course, It's not a big deal, I'm actually a pretty good dancer you know"
"Really? I had no idea, how did you learn?"
"My parents taught me when I was a kid, well mostly my mother, as she had to force my dad to do it with her most of the time because he was too embarrassed to do it in front of me" You chuckled to yourself reminiscing on the good old days.
"Your father?" Miku asked, insinuating she wanted to know more.
"Never mind, anyway here grab my hand and I'll teach you" You say with a little smirk.
Miku takes notice of your reluctance to say anything about your father but grabs your hand anyway and you stand her up. Her hands were super soft and she smelt really nice so close up to you, but you had to keep your mind on track. Nino was the one you liked and nothing was going to change that.
It was easy to read from her expression she seemed pretty hesitant to begin, as Fuutaro was literally a few metres away in the kitchen and her sister was obviously staring daggers at her from the sofa.
"Alright, let's just do some basic rhythmic movement to see how fluid you are, does that sound good to you?" you tilt your head and ask.
"Sur-"
Miku was cut of by the sound of a foot stomping, arms crossing and the audible cue of a pout incoming.
"Hey! Y/N!, why are you being so touchy touchy with my sister?" Nino barked, in an attempt to draw everyone's attention over to you.
"Dumbass, I'm teaching her how to dance, what else would it look like? Did you lose your contacts again Ribbons?" You satirically replied while locking your eyes with hers.
Once again, simple eye contact and a sarcastic comment seemed like enough to tame the beast, so she naturally backed down, and went to join the other in the kitchen, but not after leaving you and Miku both with a simple but cute "Hmmpf!" as she kept her arms folded and quickly turned away and walked towards the kitchen.
You turn back to Miku who was looking directly at you now, there was a very very faint blush on her cheeks as you were both still holding hands.
"Don't worry about what she said Y/N, I know you're only doing this to help me..."
"Ah, thanks, that's good to hear, anyway just follow my lead and I'll teach you the basics"
"Right"
You raise one of your hands high and keep the other about mid body level, you move your feet in a slow and easy to follow rhythm as you bounce soundly from foot to foot, it was nice dancing again as you hadn't done it in years but you could feel it all coming back to you. You do notice however that Miku was struggling to find her rhythm and balance quite a lot, for someone who listens to music on her headphones constantly you found it pretty surprising she had little rhythm.
The uncomfortable look on her face remained so you took a step back and let go of her hands.
"Sorry Y/N, I just don't think it's going to work out"
"Huh, didn't think you'd be the first sister to say that to me..., but anyway ya gotta keep it pushing otherwise your chances with Fuutaro will always remain low and you wouldn't want that, would you?"
The spark in her eyes lit up which was always a good sign, she instinctively grabbed your hands and aggressively started to try and move in a non-existent rhythm.
"Woah, slow down there tiger" Gripping her hands tighter in order to stop her movements. "Let's take it from the top shall we?"
After a enthusiastic nod of approval Miku eased into the rhythm more and more, eventually being able to flow and move at a consistent fluid pace. It was kind of insane how fast she had managed to grasp the concept after a little motivation, but hey, you weren't gonna complain about fast progress.
10 minutes later, Miku had gotten the hang of her movements as you taught her various things and she was moving pretty decently all together, Fuutaro was a terrible dancer anyway so as long as she could pick up his slack that was all that mattered.
"I'm impressed Miku, maybe Dancing is your hidden natural talent!"
"Thanks Y/N, but I wish it was cooking..." She pouted, looks like you unintentionally struck a nerve.
"Well, if it makes you feel any better, Fuutaro cannot usually tell the difference between good and bad food so no matter how bad your cooking is, I'm sure he'd like it. Well as long as it's edible.." You trail off with a nervous laugh
------------------------
Little did you know this entire time, there were a hawk's gaze glaring at the both of you, and it was about to take flight.
"Are you guys still dancing? Y/N, you're wasting your time, she's never going to improve!" Nino clamoured, her classic strategy of trying to assert early dominance into a situation. Miku opened her mouth to speak but you put out your hand to stop her and then turned to face Nino, looking her straight in the eyes and bracing yourself.
"Well Nino, If this bothers you that much, then we'll just dance at the real thing"
"Wha-, Why should I dance with you?" She said completely in shock but with a blush was rapidly forming on her cheeks.
"Oh, you don't wanna to go together? Okay" You turn towards the kitchen and cup your hand around your mouth raising the other in the air.
"Hey Yotsuba! You wanna dance together at the bonfir-! "
A hand gripped your arm suddenly, and cut you off.
"D-Dummy, I never said no...." Nino's entire face was a nice shade of red from the embarrassment that was hitting her right now. You turn to face her and smile but she can't meet your eyes at all and was instead trying her best to cover her face with one of her hands.
"What did you say Y/N?" Yotsuba suddenly said from beside you, much to your and Nino's shock.
"Ah... Nothing Yots, Don't worry about it" You place a hand on her head and give her a little head pat like you usually did. She turned on her heels and jogged back to Ichika and Fuutaro who were still in the kitchen, Ichika was giggling at what was happening with you and Nino and Fuutaro looked like he didn't give a single care in the world.
Noticing that she was still grabbed onto your raised arm, Nino quickly let go and let out a deep breath to relax herself. Miku stood by with a faint smile.
The others started making their way back to the sofas and to everyone's surprise, Itsuki had finally come out of her room and joined everyone downstairs so now everyone was all together again.
"So, have you guys thought more about who you're going to dance with" Ichika said, propping her chin on top of her hands and staring directly at Nino
"Wait Ichika, what about you?" You point to her.
"What about me?"
You pulled out your phone and scroll for a few moments. "Yeah, my good friend Maeda texted me telling me you rejected him earlier today, was he not up to par?"
Miku and Fuutaro both tense up at the mention of that, weird but okay.
"W-Well I'm sure her standards are pretty high!" Fuutaro awkwardly laughed.
Even weirder but okay, again...
"Ah, Fuutaro's right, Maeda's not really my type..." Ichika played it off. That whole conversation was pretty suspicious and the fact that Miku flinched immediately made you think it was a classic Quintuplet switcheroo.
"Hmmm, alright then" You turn your attention to the new arrival to the group. "Itsuki, what about you?"
She stays quiet, purposefully not answering your question and instead continues to eat whatever it was she was eating. The silence hit the room pretty hard as her ignoring you brought by an uncomfortable air.
After a few moments with the silence you stand up and look at Nino, and signal her to follow you as you make your way out towards the Balcony, she hesitates for a moment while everyone else besides Itsuki watches her. She turns on her heels and follows you out to the balcony, once she arrives you close the door behind you both.
----------------
A big sigh comes out of your mouth, "What the fuck was that?" as you lean on the railing
"Y/N..." Nino looked at you sweetly, similarly to how she looked at you on that one night when you came back to get your earbuds.
"No Nino, I mean it, at this point it's just really weird. I don't know why she still has some kind of stigma against me but to be completely honest, it's starting to piss me off. I've literally been nothing but supportive of her and her dreams and she still acts like this towards me. Sure, not everyone has to like everyone, I get that but all in all it's just so weird"
Getting that off of your chest to someone felt good, it never really bothered you how Itsuki had acted towards you since the Midterms when she said what she said at the Lunch Table but recently she had been doing little things like ignoring you, or leaving when you entered and your patience was running kind of thin.
"Hey... C'mere Y/N." Nino had her arms outstretched towards you, awaiting a hug. A smile creeps on your face, you couldn't hide how much you needed her right now, you walked into her arms and wrapped your arms her body.
You both stood there in the breeze in a small embrace, she was so warm, contrasted with the cool air outside. She smelt so nice, like some type of flower but had no clue what flower it was. Nino also hummed quietly while rocking your bodies back and forth, it was so sweet that you felt perfectly at peace. Looking over her shoulder reminded you again how long her hair actually was, you wondered to yourself if there was a reason she had the longest hair out of her sisters.
Her grip started to loosen, so you reciprocated and broke off the hug too. Both of you loosely held each others arms before she flashed a quick smile and raised one of her hands, and flicked you in the forehead.
"Ow, what was that for?"
"That was for that little stunt you pulled earlier, truth is I knew you would ask me to dance with you at some point" Her outstretched finger pointing at me with a cheeky grin plastered across her face.
"I'll give you that one, I guess it was deserved"
"You're damn right it was deserved, now, I'm going to bring Itsuki out here and you're gonna settle you're differences, understand?"
"What?"
"You heard me, my sisters come first, and I won't fully accept you until my sisters do so this is the only way!" She stated, pouting and crossing her arms as she usually did.
"I guess you're right, honestly I don't want this to last forever and you seem like the best bridge between us, so I'm counting on you"
"Sure, but you owe me" She winked before opening the balcony door and heading back inside and approaching Itsuki.
-------------------------
You turned back around to lean over the balcony like you had done so many times before, day by day your feelings for Nino were becoming more concrete and as much as you wanted to just confess and get it out of the way you still had some doubts plaguing the back of your mind. Nino was great, and was basically the girl of your dreams but you didn't want to make a mistake but you needed to figure out what to do to completely solidify your love for her. But first, you had this Itsuki issue to deal with and also Kaito to deal with at some point.
Speaking of Itsuki, you hear the door abruptly open up behind you.
"What is it?" She said as she stepped out onto the balcony, a stern look on her face as she started rubbing her arms to protect herself from the cold wind.
"All right, Itsuki I'm just gonna hit you with it straight" you start, locking eyes with her.
"Wha-" before she even has a chance to get her bearings you continue.
"Do you hate me?"
The look on her face seems like this is a shocking question to her. She pauses for a moment and looks at the sky before facing you.
"I don't hate you"
............. There was a silence.
"Okay, cool, but why do you act so flip-floppy with me, one minute we're cool, next minute you're calling me an intruder, and the minute after you're trying to avoid me. It just doesn't make any sense to me"
She lets out a sigh and leans on the railing next to you. "I don't hate you, it's just...." she trails off again her voice fading. "It's just, I don't know how to feel"
You raise an eyebrow "Whaddya mean?"
"I mean I feel conflicted" She turns to face you now "Do you remember when we took that practice exam and you told me to keep pursuing my dream of being a teacher?"
"Yeah, of course and I still stand by that to this day"
"Thank you. But as much as I appreciated hearing that back then, I couldn't help but feel sceptical of you. I questioned what your motives really were and had that feeling multiplied when you told me at the festival you weren't getting paid for coming here. To me it seemed like you had an ulterior motive" she realises she's rambling at this point. "Or something like that.... because I didn't know you and I still don't really know you." she blushes.
You let out a faint laugh. "Itsuki, I'm glad you told me. To put your feelings to rest, no I don't have ulterior motives. I just wanted to help Fuutaro originally as you know how bad of a first impression he can make and his non-existent social skills." She laughs at that remark. "But overtime I genuinely grew some attachment to you girls, it's fun being around all of you, so yeah that's just how I feel"
She observes your face while you're speaking as if to see if these words were true. After you finish speaking she smiles, "Okay Y/N, I understand"
"Really?
"Yeah... I'm sorry for how I've been acting towards you, it's pretty unfair for you" She braces herself before continuing. "So can we put all of this behind us?"
"Yeah, I'd be glad too, and I'll take you out for something to eat sometime so you can get to know me, that sound good?"
A blush appears on her face, causing you to damage control what you just said. "I didn't mean it in a date sense, just two friends hanging out, don't worry I have no intention of making a move on you."
"I know, you'd rather make a move on Nino right?" she smirks smugly, resembling Ichika far too much for your liking.
"You too? you Quintuplets are way too alike" you laugh. She laughs too and you both begin to make your way back inside at the sound of the others all laughing and talking.
-----------------------
Both you and Itsuki returned to the sofa while laughing and talking and joined the others. She sat next to Yotsuba and you took a free seat next to Fuutaro. As soon as you sat down, he leaned over and started whispering in your ear.
"So, now this is done, what are you gonna do about Kaito" You told Fuutaro what had happened previously at that lunchtime between you and Kaito. The girls still had no idea as far as you were aware.
"I don't know, I think he's gonna make a move on the field trip, that's my best guess"
"Hey, why are you guys always whispering to each other, it's getting creepy!" Nino shouted across the sofa
"That girl..." Fuutaro growled. You let out an awkward laugh and leaned back into the sofa.
Soon the school trip would begin, three whole days of unforgettable memories as Yotsuba had repeatedly put it. There were concerns on your mind but overall you were still somewhat looking forward to it as a whole. This would be the do or die time period to see if you and Nino would actually be able to go anywhere together as a couple, what you two had right now felt perfect but you knew eventually you would either want less or more and you planned to use the Field Trip to give yourself the definitive answer.
That internal monologue reminded you of something.
"Hey, Nino"
"What?"
"Out of curiosity, do you actually know how to dance?"
"O-Of course I do Dummy!"
You deadpan and stare her in the eyes for a few moments. "Hmmmmmm" is all that leaves your mouth
"Wha-What! I said Of course I can dance!"
"Oh, I get it now" Miku smirked chuckling to herself, you were both on the same wavelength and started to laugh
"I-It's not what you think, Shut Up!" Nino barked as she stormed off towards the kitchen embarrassed.
With everyone finally in good spirits, all we had to do was wait for the day of the field trip which was only 2 days away, and who would have been able to predict what would happen in just 3 short days....
-----------------------------------------
That's a wrap for chapter 15!, damn, I've been doing this for just over 3 months now which is kind of insane to me. Sorry for the longer wait for this chapter, as I said on my page I had some stuff to deal with this month.
Thank you guys for over 10k reads! (Currently at 12.5k!) We also hit Number one on the ninonakano tag which is really cool. I'm glad there's people who actually enjoy my work out there somewhere in the world.
Also, although I may not reply to them I do read all the comments I get and honestly, comments are the highlight of me doing all this it just makes me feel good about continuing the series so keep the comments coming!
But yeah, onwards to Chapter 16, it's the start of the long-awaited Field Trip arc, and I actually have a lot of it planned out so it should be smoother sailing. Hopefully Chapter 16 is up within the next week or so, I don't plan on making you guys wait too long.
Thank you guys for the support as always, appreciate you all and have a damn good week! See you Soon!
(Side-note: I may or may not end up changing the cover for the book at some point and put the title on it to just make it look nicer, so if you see it change then yeah)
