Author here, hello :) Please point out any mistakes in this chapter and I will correct it, thank you <3
There are no warnings in this book, mostly the warning you guys are expecting...
Walking down the streets of the deserted city, Aurora clutched the thin material of her jacket. There was no assured destination since Aurora was not familiar with this town. Walking in the streets of an unfamiliar city might have irked her, but she needed the fresh air.
With the last minute plans to get out of her apartment, she didn't think for a good second to take her phone with her. There was a good chance of her getting lost so she did not have her cellphone with her to call the cops.
Aurora was only visiting this city for a week, she had to visit the hospital to have a meeting with a doctor. After meeting with the doctor and seeing if they are able to asses her better than the hospital where she stayed, she would move here permanently.
As she grumbled under her breath, spouting complete nonsense about her situation at home, Aurora noticed a park in the near distance. The park was vacant as far as she could see which urged her to walk towards the direction of the park. Having no one to bother her and some peace and quiet sounded really good right now for her.
Aurora made her way over to the swings and decided to have a seat on one of them. As far as she could remember, she doesn't remember much about visiting the park. Her childhood wasn't that depressing like in the movies, where the child was locked up in the house and homeschooled her entire life.
Aurora used to be normal. She just never spent that much time in a park for her love for flowers distracted her. She spent most of her time in the garden in their backyard, planting and growing different types of flowers. That was a futile attempt to make her forget about the darkened memories.
She shook her head to rid herself from those memories.
She just wished that there was someone out there for her to speak to.
Lifting her gaze from the ground, she looked up to the sky. As she lifted her head, she couldn't help but notice something in the corner of her eye. Aurora turned to her right to look over at the direction of the bench. The moment her eyes settled on the mahogany bench situated near the swing, Aurora froze.
Meeting her gaze, a man sat on the bench.
Until this very moment Aurora has not noticed him sitting there, which bothered her. She didn't realize that someone else was here in the park with her, let alone a man who looked to be a few years older than her. He must have been here before her but that didn't make sense to her.
She was supposed to notice him sitting there when she approached the swings, but clearly she didn't. There was not that much light to be able to see the man clearly, making it even harder for her, since everything about him was also dark.
Everything he had on, was black. From the black turtleneck he was wearing to the black pair of dress shoes on his feet. The solemn expression he had on his face while he was watching her made her feel uncomfortable. Aurora had her fair share of seeing emo's in her life but she was not one to judge anyone by their choice of clothing.
She took in what he was wearing. His clothes seemed to be really expensive, his shoes looked as if it was polished just a few seconds ago. She looked over to his side and saw that a blazer has been hanging on the arm of the bench. He most probably took it off which was very odd since it was a bit cold outside.
None of them moved.
Dark eyes clashed with green ones as their eyes met. The man didn't seem bothered as he noticed the girl had finally seen him sitting there, longer than she has by the way. He has been watching her now for the past five minutes just sitting there on the swing with a look on her face he knew all too well.
Something was bothering her.
He didn't even go to the trouble of asking her what was bothering her, because he wasn't a people's person. He didn't lack any communication skills, that wasn't the case, it was just the he didn't like getting involved with anyone. He simply didn't care for others which seemed like a waste of time.
Getting over the shock of a man sitting across from her and possibly watching her, Aurora's friendly side stepped forward. Mustering up the courage to walk towards him and hopefully be able to converse with him , she did just that. The man watched her with dark eyes as she walked over to him, and with a small smile she stopped in front of him.
"Hello." she said in a soft voice. "M-my name is Aurora."
Up close she could finally get a perfect view of his face. Aurora felt her heart pick up it's pace as she inspected every faint detail on the man's face. The little bit of light emitting from the street lights and the moon exposed a bit of his features. The first thing she noticed was his eyes which never left her from the moment she stepped off the swing. She was so intent in his eyes that it was nearly impossible to look away from those hypnotic globes of darkened ink.
She noticed that those onyx orbs were the same color as his hair, the color matching his entire clothed look which made him even more intimidating. Everything about him screamed dark and depressing yet Aurora felt that there was more than what meets the eye.
The one thing that made her heart flutter the way it did was the attractive manner in which his undercut made him look. Aurora had never seen such a look before, no, she had never seen such an amusing look before which made her feel so entranced. It made him look undeniably good including the bits of strands of his hair which lazy fell just above above his eyes.
"Oh my..." she thought to herself.
Her green orbs trailed down his face and without thinking about her actions, it settled on his lips. Full pink lips were wrapped around an object that made her eyes widen. She didn't even realize what he was actually doing alone at night until she looked at him closer. Standing right now here before him she made out of the white little stick , which had his ring covered fingers wrapped around it.
"Little girls like you shouldn't be out here alone at night."
Aurora felt her knees nearly buckling at the authoritative tone in his voice. His voice was something that she could see herself never getting enough of, the kind of voice which was deep but at the same time smooth. Smooth like the beautiful texture of velvet but a light rough mixture to it.
Aurora detected the slight accent in his tone of voice, and identified it as Italian.
Everything about this stranger was beautiful.
Snapping out of her dreamland, she found herself blushing at his choice of wording. "I am t-twenty. I am not a little girl." she said which was followed by a pout.
The man felt himself inwardly smirk at her tactics.
"You don't look a day over fourteen."
Aurora let out a small gasp at his rude remark. She must admit the man was right, because he wasn't the first person to mistake her for a little girl. Many people before him have mistaken her for being a fourteen or even a thirteen year old girl.
Aurora's features weren't of those of a thirteen year old girl, as a matter of fact she did look her age. The only thing that made her look even younger was her height. Her age and mature features put aside, she was a really petite girl which could be mistaken for a middle school girl.
"I-I am not that short." she whispered.
"How tall are you?"
Aurora bit her lip before saying, "Five foot one."
"I guess you are a little girl then." The man said slyly.
She huffed and gave him a glare. A glare in which was supposed to be an intimidating one, made her look like an angry little kitten. The man oddly enjoyed the cute little reactions he was getting from her but he wouldn't show his enjoyment.
"C-can I sit here with you?" She asked him tilting her head a little bit to the side. Looking at her he found her to be really adorable, but that was something he blamed on the toxins he had in his system for thinking that way.
"No." he answered.
"Why not?"
"Just go home."
Aurora slightly grimaced at the thought of going home. That expression didn't go unnoticed by him but he didn't think it was his place to meddle with her life, besides he did not care.
"I guess I'll just make myself comfortable." she said just before she sat down next to him.
The man rolled his eyes. He simply didn't want anyone to bother him right now and clearly this girl seemed like one who won't shut up. Her overall demeanor was really captivating but he knew he wouldn't be the suitable person to have a conversation with.
Aurora glanced at the man next to her. He didn't look at her as he was still facing the front, his eyes now fixed on the view in front of them. He continued to inhale and exhale the smoke which consisted of many bad substances which she could not understand the point of using.
Even his side profile was prestigious. She was convinced that God had favorites and took his sweet time to carve the man sitting next to her. His features were not only mature and sophisticated but it was elegantly sculpted, so beautifully made. It was a sight she could not find herself looking away from.
Not being able to see it clear enough, Aurora leaned a bit over to his side. As she came face to face with his neck her eyes widened as she took in the beautiful inked patterns on his luscious skin. The contrast of the black ink on his tan skin was remarkable, surprising her at the fact that he became even more attractive.
"Oh my..."
The pattern on his neck was not visible enough for her to make out what it is. It was still beautiful to her. Aurora wondered who this man was, he seemed to have an aura which screamed pure dominance and authority.
"What's your name?"
He didn't reply.
"H-how old are you?"
He didn't answer her.
"Do you live around here?"
No answer.
"Well I don't. I'm not f-from here actually. I c-came here to do some business. I'm actually leaving in about t-two days, so you probably won't ever see me again stranger."
The man exhaled the smoke. "Lucky me."
Aurora frowned at his short and rude reply. She ignored it however and continued to ramble on about useless information that the stranger could care less about.
"That's mean b-but I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. Do you come here often?" Even though she knew he didn't answer her previous questions, she continued to interrogate him.
To her surprise, he answered her. "Yes."
Aurora smiled, her eyes gleaming under the light of the street lamps. She was overjoyed that he at least answered one of her questions, ignoring that it was just a one word reply.
"You must have a lot on your mind to want to have some time to yourself. I-I am the same!" she said and smiled widely at him.
"Do you ever stop talking?" His voice was filled with irritation but she overlooked it.
At the sound of her giggles, he felt his hand twitch at that sound. Never in his life has he ever heard something as beautiful as that before.
"Nope!" she exclaimed.
"Hmm maybe you aren't good at talking so I guess you are good at listening. Do you want to know s-something stranger?" she looked over at him slightly leaning forward to get a look at his face.
He snuck a quick glance at the girl next to him, she was looking at him with such excitement in his eyes that it made him slightly uncomfortable. How this girl had so much energy was beyond him.
He didn't bother answering her because he knew that she would answer him anyway. And she did.
"You know I'm only telling you this because we will probably never see each other again and I don't have a-any friends. " she started off.
"You are probably too annoying for friends." he muttered.
"Hey!" Aurora paused before she let out a small chuckle. "I guess I do t-talk a lot."
There was a moment of silence between the two of them before she spoke, murmuring two words which caused a bit of tension to rise in the air around them.
"I'm sick."
His movements stopped for a few seconds. The cigarette midway in the air only centimeters away from him his lips. He knew what she meant by those words, that she was sick. He knew that it wasn't the usual flu because telling him about that would be pointless and there was an edge to her tone that had him understand what it meant.
Aurora continued swinging her feet, the two of them not looking at each other as she spoke.
"I have a sickness called aplastic anemia and I had it since I was about thirteen years old. Holy cheeseballs, I remember that day like it happened yesterday. I was at s-school this one day and all of a sudden I passed out, which was weird because I've eaten my breakfast and I wasn't overheated which is the main reason people faint. A-anyway I was rushed to the hospital and they took some tests. That's when they discovered that my bone marrow was d-damaged and diagnosed me with aplastic anemia."
Aurora dug her finger nails deep into her skin, the outline of crescent shapes could be seen on the palm of her hand and she spoke. "Ever since that day I was being treated d-differently by everyone. By everyone I mean Aunt Jocelyne at the coffee shop I work at. She is the only closest thing to a family member I could call. The real reason I am here is because I heard that there was a surgeon who was really g-good at his job and I thought it would be a good idea to hear his thoughts on the matter. "
Aurora let out a bitter laugh. "They just won't give up. I have already come to terms with it and ever since I watched the lion king movie, I wanted to become a s-star! Just like Mufasa said to Simba before he died, and then he became a star. Doesn't that s-sound wonderful?"
"Aurora."
"Yes?"
He turned his head and their eyes made contact. He examined the girl sitting next to him. After hearing about an issue she had which did not concern him at all he noticed how truly unbothered she was. Even though the girl is suffering from a death threatening illness, she still managed to have a smile on her face.
He hated it.
He hated this girl.
He had to admit, opening up to a complete stranger was the dumbest thing someone could do, but after hearing that she had no friends he understood. The only problem is he doesn't care, at all.
People die and it was nothing new to him, hearing a random girl say they don't have long to live wasn't at all touching. He felt a bit sorry for her because she looks like such a good person for something so tragic to happen to her.
Death was something he was all too familiar with, and hearing from another that they might die, it did not surprise him.
But in the end, she is a human.
And humans die.
"Go home."
