Aurora
Aurora stared at the passing by of blurred green and all sorts of colors, as they drove back to her apartment. The ride so far had been filled with silence, with none of them talking and not even the radio had been put on. It was completely still but the only one affected by the silence must have been her, since she knew Matteo wasn't one to talk much.
She continued to stay quiet as he drove her back to her place. A place that she did not want to go back to, but she needed to see if her cat was still okay. She felt embarrassed that she cried in front of Matteo over a cat who could be starving. It was such a typical childish act that must have changed his view on her. He must be seeing her as some pathetic child.
She couldn't help that she was sensitive, but she still couldn't help but want to kick herself for looking like a fool in front of him.
She was a bit confused as they neared her apartment. Matteo had not once asked for her address like she had expected him to. It all felt a bit off to her that he was driving her to her place, but maybe he wasn't even going to her home. Maybe he was taking her somewhere else first.
That thought soon diminished the moment she recognized the street that came just before hers. She familiarized herself with this street as she walked this same exact one everyday for work. She wondered how he knew exactly where to go when he never even asked her to direct him on where to go.
She ignored the weird feeling in her stomach as it began to grow from being suspicious about it.
They arrived at the apartment complex and as soon as they did, she saw in the corner of her eye Matteo checking his phone. She was a bit hurt to see that he wasn't going to wave her off or at least say goodbye to her, something that she wanted him to do. Instead he was looking at his phone as if she wasn't sitting in his car with him.
His brows were furrowed as he seemed to be reading a message and she could tell it was troublesome news from the way he clenched his jaw every now and then. He always seemed to be frustrated but this message made him really angry.
"A-are you okay?" she asked softly.
All he replied with was a "mmh" sound, as if he wasn't listening to her. She felt as if they were once again strangers, taking her back to when he was completely closed off and didn't even utter a single word to her. As if he was starting to become that really mean person who he was in the beginning before he became less mean to her.
Aurora gasped as he flung his phone over his shoulder, the phone hitting the backseat. He muttered a string of curse words under his breath but her good hearing had caught all the bad words he had spoken. He pinched the bridge of his nose and he started roughly breathing through his nose, reminding her of a wild animal.
He looked really angry at that moment and she gulped as she took in his terrifying look on his face. The muscles in his jaw flexed as he kept grinding his teeth, and his gaze that now snapped to her was so sharp that she flinched.
His eyes were so dark as they were glued on her face. His eyes flitted to something behind her and his scowl on his face had deepened, clearly not liking what he was seeing. Noticing that he was looking at the old barely stable building that she lived in, she felt ashamed that he had to see that. It was nothing like the beautiful house that he owned.
"You're not getting out?" he asked, his voice extremely low.
She had missed the words that had escaped his lips as her gaze was transfixed on the blackened globes of his eyes. She was so drawn to them that it felt like she was getting sucked into a pit of never ending darkness. It had her pinned to the seat as they stared at her, hard.
He just tilted his head slightly and looked at her again, expectantly. She didn't understand why he was looking at her like that until she realized that they have arrived at her place and she should get out.
"Oh." she blushed, feeling like a total idiot.
She was confused by his behavior but didn't want to pester him any further. Not wanting to get on his bad side she fumbled with the seatbelt with for some reason, it didn't want to work. She kept struggling with the button of the seatbelt, her trembling fingers making it difficult for her to unbuckle herself. At that moment she wanted nothing more than to just die as she felt his gaze still on her face.
She looked like a total fool in front of him.
Her cheeks flushed as he continued to stay quiet as he watched her struggle. The only sound that could be heard was the fumbling of fingers against the seatbelt, and no one dared to speak.
She thanked the heavens after she successfully managed to unbuckle herself and shorten the embarrassing moment. She didn't hesitate to open the car door and want to make her way inside her apartment, where she could suffer from the scenario that just happened.
"Be safe, agnellino."
She spun around to look at him but Matteo was already driving away and all she could see was the back of his retreating vehicle. Feeling now sad at the loss of his attention and no comfort, with her head hung low she made her way to her apartment.
It has been roughly three days since she had last seen Matteo. Even though she tried to convince herself that she didn't miss him, given her gloomy expression everyday was an indicator that she did miss him. She didn't mean to crave his attention once again and want him to hold her again like he had last time, but unfortunately she did.
She didn't want to accept the reality that she had gone back to minimum groceries and cold showers. The drop of the temperature in the apartment never had an effect on her, but after staying at Matteo's place for almost an entire day, she didn't want to be in that cold place anymore. She missed the home cooked meal she had at his home, the delicious cookies that he had given her, and his overall presence alone.
He had left her without care. She felt a pinch in her heart when he had left her at her apartment complex that one morning, thinking that their moment together at his home meant nothing. It shouldn't mean anything but to her it meant the world. To be able to be in someone's hold like that, it was all she truly wanted.
She wanted someone to be there for her. Kitty was always there for her, but Kitty couldn't give her the type of attention she wanted. She wanted the endless conversations with someone, the laughs that bring them to the brink of passing out and the memories that she wanted to create with them. She desired to have that special someone who would have her troubles fade away.
Someone who would make her forget all of her problems. That is what he had done to her, but only for a short while. She wanted more of it, more of the fuzzy feelings that she got when he was near. She hated herself for wanting to see more of him when he could be wanting to ignore her existence.
Aurora jumped as Lauren popped up in front of her. "Since when does a loser like you have friends?"
Aurora furrowed her brows. "What?"
Lauren rolled her eyes. "There's a kid out in the front claiming to be your friend. I think her name is Cordelia or some shit."
Matteo's sister? What could she possibly want with Aurora?
"S-she's looking f-for me?" she asked her.
"Yes. Did I perhaps speak another language?"
Aurora gulped and got up from the position she was in on the floor. She was grateful that she had been interrupted from the disgusting job she was given by Lauren. She didn't mind helping out, but cleaning the toilets was not supposed to be her job.
Dusting herself off from all the dirt that had gotten on her clothes, she strutted towards she front of the cafe. She wondered why Matteo's sister was looking for her, and what she wanted specifically with her.
When Cordelia came into her line of view, her forehead creased as she took in the sight in front of her. Chandler was talking to Cordelia and they seemed to be laughing about something, well more like he was laughing and Cordelia scowled at him. She must have not appreciated the joke he had made.
Chandler ruffled her hair, making her swat his hand away before Chandler let out another chuckle and walked back into the kitchen. He hadn't noticed Aurora standing there and neither did Cordelia, who was furiously patting down her hair that was ruined by Chandler.
Aurora was very much confused. First Chandler was in obvious trouble with Matteo and now he was speaking to Matteo's sister as if they were childhood friends. It was all becoming suspicious to her but she brushed it off thinking that they were maybe all close friends.
When she approached Cordelia who wore a pair of sunglasses that shielded her eyes from the sun shining through the window, Cordelia smiled at her.
"Aurora, hi." she said, her voice filled with excitement upon seeing Aurora.
Aurora scanned what Cordelia was wearing and was surprised to see someone so young be able to pull of something like this. She had a gorgeous pair of black ankle heel boots that added a few inches to her height. She had a pair of white jeans on and a cropped tank top that revealed a bit of her stomach. It was paired with a leather jacket that gave her a bad girl from the movies type of look.
She looked a bit older than what she actually was, however Aurora didn't know her age. She must be around fourteen or so given her young features and her immaturity from their previous meeting.
Aurora returned her smile. "Hi." she responded softly.
"I wanted to ask you if you could accompany me on a shopping spree." Cordelia slipped of her sunglasses.
She was a bit surprised that she had gotten straight to the point. She sounded a bit like her brother, the both of them not beating around the bush.
"A s-shopping spree?"
Cordelia nodded her head. "Yes. It's so boring when it's just men who take you out shopping, who by the way have no sense of style. I want a woman with me this time and who could be a better candidate than you, hmm?"
Aurora couldn't describe what she was feeling. Never in her entire life on this earth had someone asked her to go with them shopping. Never had she even gone shopping for herself, either than buying herself some groceries every once in a while.
She bit her lip. "I-I don't know, Cordelia."
"Please, Aurora. I really want to get to know you better too. You seem like a really nice girl."
She blushed at that, not very good at receiving compliments.
Aurora shook her head. "I can't. My lunch break is only in h-half an hour."
"Well then I'll wait for you." Cordelia said with a shrug of her shoulder.
Aurora couldn't believe this girl. Did she really want to hang out with her that bad?
"You really don't have t-to." she told Cordelia.
Cordelia waved her hand dismissively. "I don't mind. I guess I'll start scanning through the menu then, hmm?"
Cordelia, in a confident manner, trotted to a table and sat down. The girl held so much confidence that had Aurora feeling very envious since she was younger than Aurora. Such a young girl having a better life than she could ever imagine, made her feel a tad bit jealous.
That feeling was soon replaced by warmth spreading in her heart. She couldn't believe someone had just invited her to go shopping. It was something she had never done before and doing it with someone, it sounded so exciting that Aurora couldn't help but smile.
Maybe life isn't so bad after all.
