Aurora

Aurora moaned in pain as she clutched her abdomen tightly. She was hunched over as droplets of water trickled down her naked body. The warm water of the shower eased some of her pain but the immense amount of pain came in powerful waves in her lower stomach.

She turned the shower off as she howled in sheer pain. It was that time of the month for her and she didn't expect it to appear at this random time. There were still guests in the house and she had to excuse herself from the table when she felt an ache in her stomach and wetness between her legs.

There was no tight schedule for when her period came so she couldn't predict when it would appear. She hated that because she couldn't prepare herself for when it would come.

She stepped out of the shower and entered her room, the short towel tightly wrapped around her body. She walked hastily towards her drawers, in hopes of finding some pads for herself. To her disappointment, there was none in sight.

She bit her lip as she rummaged around through all the drawers and even in those in the bathroom, but to her dismay there was none. This situation couldn't have gotten worse for her since she was stuck in her room with bloody Mary who did her rounds and three men downstairs, with no pads.

How would she tell Matteo that she needs these things?

She stood in the middle of her bedroom, pain in her stomach and the anxiety of having to inform Matteo about this with his friends here.

She was about to cry when there was a sudden knock at her door. She didn't have time to comprehend that the person had opened the door right after the knock and in barged Reggie.

"Amore mio, it is time for us to leave so I came to-"

She gasped as she clutched the towel tightly against her body, her cheeks reddening from the intrusion. Reggie's eyes widened but being the respectful man he was he slapped his hand over his eyes and turned around not before letting out a little screech.

"I-I'm sorry. I didn't know you were naked and I didn't mean to walk in on you in this state!" he said in a rush.

Aurora couldn't even speak, not knowing what to say as she stood looking at him with red cheeks.

"What happened?" asked Vincent.

She snapped out of her flustered state and urged her legs to move into the direction of her bedroom to hide. There was no time for her to do that since she noticed that Matteo had appeared behind Reggie, who was struggling to find the handle of the door with his eyes still covered.

If it was even possible, she felt her cheeks become even hotter when his gaze locked on hers and for a second scanned her body. She had just made a fool out of herself by letting these men see her with just a towel.

"Oh." said Vincent. He cleared his throat, looking very awkward and he too turned around.

"Sorry for the disturbance." he said, tugging on the collar of Reggie's shirt and dragging him away from Matteo and Aurora.

Matteo stared at her for a moment longer, his eyes not looking down at her body but he was staring directly into her green orbs. After a second longer of just watching her, her grabbed a hold of the door handle to close it and give her privacy.

"Matteo." her voice seized his movements.

"Yes?" he asked.

She cleared her throat. "I have a problem." she said softly, a bit too soft.

"Pardon?"

She looked down, feeling very awkward because of this situation. She swiped her toes against the rug on the floor, the embarrassment seeping into her body.

"I-I have a problem." she said a bit louder.

He stepped further into the room. His attention was now on her after she said that and he closed the door behind him.

"What bothers you?"

This is so embarrassing.

She glanced up at him for a second before looking back down. Right at that moment she felt a sharp pain shoot through her abdomen and she gasped, the surprise of the pain arriving shocking her. This has caught his attention and he stepped towards her immediately, his hand shooting out but retracting a second later.

"Are you in pain, agnellino? Should I call the doctor?"

She shook her head. "That won't be necessary." she said hurriedly.

He furrowed his brows. "What is it?"

She gulped, knowing that she had to explain to him what was going on. She looked down, and told him about the situation.

"I have my period." she muttered shamefully.

She thought that he was going to be disgusted by what she had said, or show signs of being disinterested. However, when she looked up at him his face was still neutral as if the news didn't appear to him as disturbing. She was confused by how he wasn't weirded out by this.

He gave her a nod. "What is it that you need?"

She felt herself smiling a bit at how much care he was showing. Never would she have thought that he would be like this towards her, and yet here they are.

"I'm o-out of pads."

"Okay. I will go and get it for you. Anything else?"

"Can you please get some pills for the pain and heat packets? That would be all."

He nodded. "Will you be okay?"

She shook her head, yes. "I'll be okay."

Just when she said that she felt some pain in her stomach. "Hopefully." she whispered with some humor in her voice.

He looked at her with nothing but concernment in his eyes, that emotion so foreign coming from him that she was a bit flabbergasted at that. He worried for her and that made her feel warm inside.

He looked at her for a moment before turning around to leave. She stopped him and he looked over his shoulder at her with a raised brow.

"Thank you." she said.

It has been about twenty minutes when Matteo returned home. Aurora made sure to wash herself again since she felt dirty all over again without having a pad. She felt much better now that she had the pads and Matteo got the correct ones for her, and she made sure to drink the pills as well.

She was wrapped up in her blankets with a heat pack against her stomach. She couldn't sleep and it was already late at night. The pain in her stomach was no longer present but she still didn't feel comfortable.

She grumbled as she got up, staring at her door wondering if she should leave the room or not. Matteo must have been asleep already and the last time she saw him was about an hour ago when he put her to bed. She remembered how hesitant he was to leave her on her own.

She sighed as she got out of bed, not knowing where exactly her destination should even be. She wasn't hungry so she didn't want to go to the kitchen. She had an idea of going to the library that Matteo had in his home and it was a bit of a ways down into the building.

When she approached the library she was surprised to see that the door was halfway open. She was confused since it was late at night and there was no way it could be Matteo in here since he doesn't look like much of a reader. Malinda should be back in a few days and even if she was here she wouldn't be in the library this late at night.

She opened the door further and stepped inside. The yellow light in the room made everything visible and she scanned the room, thoughts of the library might being haunted. She didn't believe in ghosts but there could be a possibility that she was wrong and there was a ghost in this room.

Maybe it was someone that Matteo killed and they are now haunting his house.

She was shocked to see Matteo turning around with a book in his hand, standing further into the room besides one of the many shelves. His face was still expressionless but his brows did furrow a bit showing confusion of her being here.

"Is something wrong?" he asked her.

He looked so out of place. He was in his sleepwear which consisted of his basic sweatpants and white sweater. Matteo didn't look like he belonged in a library but only in an office with a suit and tie.

He looks so cute. She blushed at her thoughts.

"No." she said. "I couldn't sleep."

He hummed as he turned around, placing a book that he had in his hands back in the shelf. She stepped closer to him, looking at the books that he had his eyes on.

"I didn't know you read." she said in surprise.

"I like to read when I can't sleep."

This was new for her. Who would have thought that the big scary man actually reads books?

"What is your favorite genre?"

"Romance."

Her eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. Her mouth was agape as she stared at him. He looked down at her puzzled expression and raised his left brow.

"Something the matter?" he asked her, as if it wasn't surprising to hear this.

She shook her head vigorously. "I would have never guessed."

He didn't say anything back and continued looking through the different books.

"Why is it your favorite?"

He shrugged his shoulders. "It intrigues me to read about the different ways in which people fall in love."

"Have you ever fallen in love?"

"I do not believe in love."

"Why?"

He sighed. "I do not think I would ever be able to reciprocate those feelings. I was raised that love makes men behave like fools and to never make the same mistake my father made."

"Your mother was wrong for what she has done to your father but that doesn't mean that it would happen to you too. Everyone deserves to love someone or even be loved and I think that it is something beautiful to share life with your special person."

Matteo scanned the book in his hand. "Why do you believe in love?"

That question made her pause and think about it. Why did she believe in love? She has never been in love with anyone before and she never would have thought of ever being with someone. The man in front of her however was different. He was a broken man who was raised with the wrong morals and ways to live.

When she looked at Matteo all she saw was a man who didn't know the side of positivity. In his heart was only sheer hatred and an immense amount of negative emotions created by his father. She had always wondered how he would have turned out if he was raised in a different way without being a mafia leader, and just a normal man.

But she still found him astounding. He had flaws like every human being and he was not perfect. He was a man who didn't know what love is and what it is to show affection. Deep down he did care for his family and his friends, and that is how a man should be. A man should protect the ones he love and he been doing that without him even realizing.

Why does she believe in love?

"Because love will never fail you."

They stared into each other's eyes. Matteo's brows were a bit creased as if not understanding what she had told him just now. If she was being honest she didn't entirely understand what that meant as well but she was certain that someday she would find out the true meaning behind those words.

Aurora hissed as she felt the pain return in her lower stomach, it wasn't as intense as before but it was still evident. "Ow." she mumbled.

"Let's get you to bed." he told her.

"But I'm not tired." she pouted.

"Aurora." he said her name, his voice dripping with dominance that made her shiver slightly.

"Fine." she grumbled under her breath.

"That's a good girl."

She gulped as she heard him praise her with his deep voice. She didn't understand why her body responded to these praises and the way he called her that but what she knew was that she liked it. She blamed the tingling feeling in her stomach on her period.
