Kaiya POV
(at the gala)
We entered the venue after handing in our invitations to the security. I was wearing a silver dress with a matching lace eye mask, courtesy of Yukiko choosing my outfit.
"Wow Kaiya-neechan! Look at that dessert table!" The detective boys ran towards it.
"Careful!" I exclaimed as they crashed into a elderly man with a bird-like mask. "I apologize for their behavior." I quickly told the man, and the detective boys followed suit.
"It's alright, no harm was done," a lanky man wearing a similar mask next to him reassured me.
"Okay you guys behave and be nice to Alain and Jean-kun alright?" I told to the detective boys, who headed off to play with them.
"Watch over them, won't you?" I told Conan and Haibara.
***********
"You should enjoy the party, you know." A voice said besides me.
"Saguru you're here as well?" I turned to him. "Oh thank goodness. If I'm being honest, events like these aren't really all that exciting..."
"You'll get used to it." He reassured me. "Shall we have a seat?" He motioned to a nearby table where the Kudos and other guests were sitting and pulled out a chair for me. I nodded thanks to him.
"Yusaku-san, Yukiko-san this is my friend Saguru." I introduced him.
"A pleasure to meet you, I believe my father has worked with you before." Saguru told Yusaku.
"Ara Kaiya-chan could this be the handsome but annoying detective you mentioned before?" Yukiko asked playfully.
My face turned a shade of red. "Y-You know s-she's always saying stuff like that." I told Saguru, forcing small laughter.
Saguru gave me an amused look but didn't say anything.
"So what brings you here to the party?" Yusaku asked Saguru. I mentally thanked Yusaku for switching topics.
"We were invited as well since my father knows Mr. Cassel." Saguru explained. "He's over there, chatting with the detectives." he motioned to Takagi and Sato.
Our conversation was interrupted by a sudden scream from the lounge room the Cassels were at.
"Well, this night just got more interesting." Saguru remarked, running to the scene.
"Why is it only interesting to you whenever there's a case?" I sighed, following him. Beside me, I could see Conan inching towards there as well.
"Yusaku-san" I turned around, expecting him to join in.
"There's plenty of detectives there already." he replied. "Besides, I can solve it from here if needed."
*****************
At the scene I secretly let Yusaku listen through the phone.
"M-My husband Theo he suddenly collapsed!" a elegantly dressed middle aged woman sobbed.
"Papa what happened?" Alain and Jean ran towards Pierre.
"U-Umm there was an accident." I explained to them. "Can you guys go back to the detective boys? I'm sure your papa must be busy."
"Okay" they nodded. Luckily they listened.
"What about him?" Pierre noticed Conan.
"Don't worry, he's with me." I told Pierre. "He's also helped the police a lot before as you know." I explained to Pierre.
Conan and Saguru knelt down next to the man. "It's cyanide poisoning."
"There is a distinct almond smell from the mouth." Sato and Takagi agreed.
"No! Who would do that!" the woman sobbed.
"Madison, we'll do anything we can to get to the bottom of this case." Pierre Cassel reassured her.
"I apologize for the trouble, but we need everyone on this table to stay put." Sato told the guests.
*********
The lounge room had a tea table surrounded by sofa and arm chairs. Saguru inspected the glassware and a bottles on the table.
"Who poured the drinks at the table?" Takagi inquired.
"I poured the first round, but afterwards everyone else filled their own glasses." Pierre replied.
The table consisted of Pierre Cassel and his wife, then Mrs. Madison Richmond and her husband Theo (the victim) who was a high-level manager at the company, and other important guests such as the younger couple the Lopezes and another couple the Millers.
"Could you please describe the seating arrangements of the table?" Takagi asked.
"Well the Lopezes were next to us, and going clockwise it was the Richmonds and the Millers." Mrs. Cassel responded.
A man on the forensics team soon came in and reported that poison was only found in Theo's glass.
"Then could it have been a suicide?" the Lopezes wondered.
"Everyone did pour their own drinks after all." The Millers agreed.
"Based on these seating arrangements, excluding the Cassels, the others were close enough to slip something into Mr. Richmond's drink." Saguru said.
"We would never do that to Mr. Richmond!" the Lopezes insisted.
"I was just stating an observation, I meant no offense by that-" I began before I brushed against a tray behind me.
"Ah it smells like smoke here!" Conan piped up, drawing attention to the ashtray.
"And what about these cigars on the ashtray by the sofas?" Saguru noticed.
"Smoking is allowed in this room of the venue." Pierre explained.
"My husband unfortunately had a smoking addiction in the past and he was starting to relapse a bit." Madison admitted. "So it was mainly him tonight."
"These cigars are of a fine quality." Saguru observed.
"Eh? Your clothes smell like a lot like smoke mister." Conan ran around like a kid.
"Mr. Richmond offered me one of those." Mr. Lopez answered.
"Unlike my husband, I'm not a big smoker though." Mrs. Lopez said.
"We were offered some too, but only my wife had one." Mr. Miller added.
"T-That's right." Mrs. Miller added, slightly coughing. "I'm not a big smoker as well, but I couldn't refuse his hospitality."
Conan looked at the ashtray and back to the glasses on the table before he wore his trademark smirk.
"Hmm" Saguru wore a slight smirk in his usual thinking pose.
