“Varga, Do you think I am sincere in helping?” Elian asks softly.
He is sitting on the chair next to Varga’s bed.
Duan and Elionora stand behind him.
Varga nods slowly.
“I…I know.”
It’s been a few days with the Fredrist and they showed them nothing but kindness. Even though he is supposed to mistrust anyone after what he went through he felt like he can’t mistrust these people.
Elian smiles.
“Thank you for trusting me. To be true to you, I help you guys without much conviction. I just feel like I can do it so I should reach out my hand. I didn’t know it'd turn out like this. I’m sorry If I have a half assed reason. I feel like a hypocrite.”
Varga looked at Elian’s face and felt sad for him.
“That is not true, Elian. Even though you did not think much about it at first, aren’t you trying your best now?” Duan panics at the back to cheer him up
Elionora pulls him.
“Don’t jump on every opportunity to baby him.”
“But…” Duan looks at Elionora with sad begging eyes.
Varga looks down at his hand.
“My Lord, truthfully…I did think of leaving them a few times too. I…I felt like they are a burden to me and I…I can live a better life without them.” Varga raises his head.
“But I did not. I know I would regret it. So I stayed with them. My Lord, the reason is not important, we are grateful for your help. It wasn’t easy to go down a sewer and find sick kids and help them. Most people will be scared to even be near us. Thank you.”
Elian tears fall down.
He felt that Varga is too mature and too admirable.
It really hurts someone’s heart when a child is too mature for their age.
Elian hugs his head.
“You are brave, Varga. You and your siblings are brave. Let me help you. I will help raise all of you. All other kids! You will all have a bright future.”
Varga can’t breathe as Elian hugs him tighter. The tighter Elian hugs his head, the more he feels his trembling body.
Varga remembers what his father told him about good samaritans who help people out of the kindness of their hearts without asking for anything in return.
He wanted to see one at first but after growong older, he knows that there are very few people who can be called a good samaritan. And Elian and his family are good examples of them.

.
.
“Young Ma–Leader, you really think I can study later?” Leon asks.
A few children with regular names came to the orphanage a few years older, those without human appropriate names were raised as babies in the orphanage.
Jaden told the children to call him Leader instead of young master. After all these children are not servants of their family and just guests.
“I heard my mother will raise a fundraiser to open a children care foundation. There you will be raised until you are able to live on your own as an adult. The foundation will support children who want to study and in return the graduates should help the other children.”
Jaden said, eating a cookie.
Leon smiles.
“That sounds so nice.”
“Do you not believe my mother?” Jaden angrily glares at him.
“You also think he is unreliable?”
Jaden saw a lot of comments about his mother online. Ofcourse it was not directly talking about his mother but the implications and snide deliberate hints are too obvious.
Some even speculate that he fakes his amnesia to elope with another man.
Some said he is not qualified to be a duchess. He is uneducated and has a low status compared to the Duke.
Some even bring up his past using the despicable act of the Houssei.
Jaden was so angry he wanted to find these people and slap some sense in their heads.
“No no!”Leon panics and shakes his head.
“I won’t dare think of that about our savior!”
Jaden looks at Leon who is starting to tear up.
“I’m sorry, I am just mad at those people that slander my mother. And now this about the Fredrist Clan scandal. Everyone is trying to find every little thing they can criticize about our family.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing?”
“That….aren’t we the reason?”
Jaden kicks him with his fat foot.
Leon looks at his foot on his cheek. Since Jaden is sitting on the chair higher than Leon’s. His foot was raised a bit hitting his cheek.
“Are you seriously blaming yourself for what is happening?”
Leon frowns and looks down, pulling the foot away from his face.
“If not for us…Won’t your family still be a whole Clan?”
“Great.” Jaden pokes his cheek with one finger and sends a spark on the tip of his finger.
“Ah!” Leon pulls back holding his hurt cheek.
“Why?”
“WHY?! WHY?! YOU ARE BLAMING THE VICTIM THAT WISHES JUSTICE? YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD PERSON!”
The Children around look at them.
“What?”
“What is wrong?”
“Is the Leader angry?”
“Hey why are you shouting?”
They all gather around them.
Leon is hugging his body crying.
“It’s not like that…”
“Hmp! It is like that! This is the consequence of THEIR actions. You think people should not receive tribulation after all the lives that died meaninglessly due to their greed? Or do you think my family should stay with a Clan that kills people when they are this kind and honorable? Or do you think orphans and all the kids they used in their experiments deserve all these?”
“It’s not like that…It’s not!” Leon sobs.
Leon started to cry loudly afterwards.
Jaden was startled.
Leon looks so mature but he is still a child.
As an adult, he shouldn’t have pressed him so much that it sounds like he is blaming him.
Kids can’t be so mature as to think so deeply. Maybe Leon sees how kind the Fredrist and hearing they’ll leave their family for them, he become conscious about the fact that it might be because of them that is why they have to leave their family. For orphans, not having a family is the greatest pain.
“So….I’m so…” Jaden starts hiccuping that turns into crying.
Seeing them cry, the children also start crying.
.
.
“I can hear crying!” Elian stood up.
“....What? Hey!” Elionora also hears it.
“I’ll go and check!” Duan runs out the door so fast.
“I’ll go and help.” Elionora followed.
“Stay here, Varga. I’ll go check on them.”
Varga nods.
Though he wanted to go and look, he will just become an additional burden if he goes.
He lay flat on the bed clenching his fist on the blanket. Elian told him about the fund raising foundation and the possibility they can go and study. As long as his siblings are fine, they can go and study. He hopes they are fine.
“Master…” Toffer and a few maids are already there calming the children.
But Leon and Jaden won’t stop crying.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Elian panics and carries Jaden in his arms.
Jaden buries his face on his mother’s chest.
Duan also takes Leon on his arm and pat his back gently to calm him down.
After a while the two starts calming down.
“Alright, you give the children some warm water and let them rest.” Toffer said, checking on the two’s red eyes and hearing how hoarse their voice became.
“Alright.”
Elian nods also teary eyed at this point.
Elionora bumps his shoulder.
“Why are you crying too?”
“Because…Because they are so pitiful when they cry.” Elian said, crying.
“This guy is serious.” Elionora took Jaden in his arms.
“I’ll take him, crybaby.”
“Oohh..” Elian followed behind him.
Then pauses and looks at Leon who is sobbing on Duan’s arm.
Duan smiles shyly and gives Leon to him.
“Go. He will be more at ease with someone with a gentle feature. I’ll go to Jaden.”
“Oh..But brother is one of the most gentle people in the Universe!” Elian took Leon but refused to give in.
Duan chuckles and rubs his hair before going upstairs.
Elian smiles and rubs Leon’s back.
“Have you calmed down? Let’s go to your bed okay.”
“Hm..”
Leon said softly.
