I watched her get into her car and pull out of the driveway.
Abraham, whom she took out of the trunk before she left, was already accompanied by my security, who were already leading him to the villa.
I can't stop thinking about what she said when she gave me her number. I don't have to be Einstein to figure out that she's already talked to him. That means she found something out. Something she didn't tell me so I have to find out for myself.
I first met Abraham at 1Oak, so as far as I know, we don't have any conflicts. I don't understand why he tried to kill me or my family.
"Boss?" A security guard appeared next to me with Abraham in his hands.
"Escort him to the living room." They frowned in confusion at my answer, but obeyed.
Not even a minute later I followed them. I nodded my head to the exit so that the security would leave us alone.
Abraham, slightly nervous, sat on the couch with his head in his hands.
He must have realized that he had a big problem.
"I'm giving you a chance to tell me everything now. Before I get it out of you some other way." I sat opposite him and he looked up at me. "So?"
If I didn't know he had some information, he would have been dead a long time ago and I would have had peace. But I know, thanks to Eris, that he's hiding something.
"I don't know what you want to hear from me." He tried to say it confidently, but his voice gave him away. He spoke as if someone had put his balls in a clamp.
"Really?" I snorted. "Are you sure?"
"Yes." He swallowed hard.
"Last chance."
"You have the wrong guy."
Without hesitation, I stood up and jumped to him. I didn't even bother to draw my gun, I just grabbed him by the neck and pushed him even harder into the seat, leaving him not even a shred of oxygen.
"You have about thirty seconds before you pass out. I suggest you speak quickly." He tried to shake me off and push me away with his hands, but it didn't help him much. He's just wasting time here. "Twenty seconds." I warned him. "Why did you send those people after me?"
"Fuck you." He said bitterly.
"Fifteen." I counted down without interest. If he doesn't give me any information, he's useless. "Ten."
I could see how much he was trying to stay conscious. I hope he's not a fool and finds out soon that he has no choice. Before knocking him unconscious, I personally would like to.
"Orders." He said as he struggled to catch his breath. I gently eased the grip on his neck so he could speak once he started. "They were my orders."
"From who?"
"I can't. He'll kill me."
"And guess what I'm going to do to you. Who's giving you orders?" I repeated my question. I'm running out of patience here.
"I can't." He said just before he passed out.
I let him go and pulled away, adjusting my suit. Positive side? I got something out of him before he passed out. Negative one? It doesn't look like he would say anything more after waking up.
So the only thing left for me is something that will probably do more harm than good.
I came out of the living room and ordered the security to take him down and tie him up properly. Maybe he'll come to his senses and talk some in time.
I went into the office and took my cell phone out of my pocket while I looked for a piece of paper with a number on it.
When I finally found it, I typed it into my cell phone. I deleted it a few times and wrote it again. This is a stupid decision.
Thinking about what to do, I sat with my phone in my hand for almost twenty minutes.
"I'm going to regret this." I said to myself before dialing the number.
I put the phone to my ear and listened to it ring on the other end. After a few seconds of ringing, she finally picked up.
"Yes?" I heard her voice from the other side and regretted every decision that led to this.
"Who does Abraham work for?" I went straight to the point.
"Oh, it's you." Her voice sounded slightly tired, but what was more strange to me was that she didn't immediately make some sarcastic remark that would make me hang up.
"So?"
"I don't know. I only got from him that he works for someone." She got straight to the point? I don't like this.
"Why don't I believe you?"
"I don't know, and I don't care. I have more important things to do." She said irritated.
"Too bad. You will work for me again and find whoever is responsible."
"Too bad?" She snorted. "Too bad for you. I'm leaving town, so you'll have to find someone else. Good luck."
Before I could say anything else, she hung up. On the other side, there was only silence.
What the hell?
How dare she hang up on me? She gave me her number to call her and she'll do this? What's wrong with her? Or rather, what is not wrong with her?
Even though I know she is too complicated and incredibly annoying, I need her. She is the only person who can help me right now.
She knew how to deliver Abraham to me within a day, and I doubt it was easy.
"Everything all right?" Sebastian peeked into the study.
"Is Kai here?" I stood up and headed towards Sebastian, ignoring his question.
"No, he went to meet some CEO or something."
"Fine then tell Theo to stand in for me." I slipped past him and crossed the hall to the front door.
"That's going to be a problem." I stopped and looked at him confused. "He left right after the woman did."
"Where the hell did he go?" I frowned.
"I'll ask him when I see him." He shrugged.
"Then you'll stand in for me for now. Don't do anything stupid." I warned him and left the villa. I headed to the car and got in. I started up and pulled out of the driveway.
The goal of my destination? Luna's apartment, where Eris is definitely located.
*****
"So this is an unpleasant surprise." With a disgusted look on her face, Luna opened the door for me. "What do you want?"
"Where is she?" I entered her apartment uninvited. I pushed past her and headed straight for the living room where she might be.
"Sure, come on in." She snorted and I heard her close the door.
But who I didn't expect to find on her couch was Theo. He looked even more surprised to see me than I was.
"What are you doing here?" I frowned.
"I..."
"What are you doing here Killian." Luna interrupted him.
I shook my head. Theo is not a priority right now. I will deal with this later.
"Where's your friend?"
"Eris?" She raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't you know?" She crossed her arms over her breasts. "After all, she spent more time with you today than with me."
"So you don't know where she is?"
"That's exactly what I said. Didn't you get it?" She rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Why do you even care?"
"Because she has to do something before she leaves."
"I'm sorry I have to be the one to tell you that the two of us aren't going anywhere."
"Funny." I snorted. "That's not what she told me."
"Eris wouldn't leave without saying goodbye."
"And how sure are you?" I came a little closer to her.
"I know you don't know what the word friend means, but try to imagine for a moment that you have someone like that. Eris wouldn't leave without telling me." She repeated. "Unless she thought..." She stopped mid-sentence, her face showing just about every emotion there is. "Unless she thinks she's protecting me. Shit, she's leaving." She exhaled heavily and grabbed her head.
"I'm glad you finally got it. Do you know where she might be?"
Without saying a word, she walked past me and stopped at the table, from which she took her cell phone and dialed a number. Eris I suppose.
"I already tried calling her on the way here. She doesn't pick up. You're wasting your time." I turned to her, my gaze darting between her and Theo, who was staring at her.
When he noticed me looking at him, he shifted his gaze from Luna to anywhere else.
"Eris, hi." Luna was looking at me with a winning smile. "Yes Theo has already left. When will you be back?" While she was quiet, she listened carefully to Eris. "Okay. Sure. And where are you now?....of course you are there." She laughed. "See you later." She hung up.
"So? Where is she?"
"Like I'll tell you." She snorted. "You should both leave. And it would be best if you never came back." She turned to Theo. "I'm serious."
Devastated. That's exactly what Theo looked like. Perhaps devastated is an understatement.
"I'm not going anywhere unless you tell me where she is." I stood my ground.
"Don't make me kick you out." She came closer to me.
"I'd like to see you try." I took a step towards her, erasing any space left between us.
"We should go, Killian." Theo stood next to us. "I'm serious."
"When you see your friend, tell her to pick up her phone." With one last look in her eyes, I turned and left her apartment with Theo at my heels.
I'm not in the mood to ask him anything. At least not now.
It doesn't look like he's bothered.
"See you back at the villa." That was all I said to him as we each went to our car. I saw Theo get in and leave. I, on the other hand, stayed. Leaning on the car door, waiting for Eris to appear.
She must return one day, and when that time comes, she will not avoid me.
I know what she is capable of and it would be foolish of me to leave her alone. She is useful. Even more than my security. But I will have to put up with her unbearable comments if I want her to work for me again.
How low will I go for my family?
I was prepared to wait hours. What surprised me was that less than two minutes after Theo left, I saw her coming out of the store across from Luna's apartment.
I noticed that she had something in her hand, but I couldn't see it properly. What was visible was the smile on her face as she looked at the object in her hand.
That smile quickly fell when she saw me. She said something to herself and started walking towards me.
The closer she got, the more I could see the object in her hand. I must be dreaming. This cannot be real.
Was she really smiling over chocolate?
"I told you to find someone else." She stopped by me.
"And I want you to be the one to help me."
"Don't tell me you're starting to like me." This is the Eris that gets on my nerves.
"You do this last thing for me and I'll leave you alone. How about that?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Get in the car." She said out of the blue, her gaze fixed somewhere other than on me.
"What?" I frowned.
Before she said anything else, she dug her hand into my chest and pushed me. I hit my car with my back.
But while I was falling on the car, I heard a shot and the bullet flew right by me.
"I said get in the car!" She shouted at me and ran to the passenger seat, where she immediately sat down. Without hesitation, I got into the car and started it. "Go! Go! Go!" She screamed as someone fired at us again and hit the car.
I immediately recovered and started driving far away from here. But a black car appeared in the rearview mirror, which began to chase us.
"Could you step on the gas? Before they start to..." Before she finished her sentence, my car caught a few more shots. "To shoot." She exhaled heavily. "I'm going to die in a car with a complete idiot."
"If you keep your mouth shut, you might survive." I turned the steering wheel sharply and went in the opposite direction. Car horns echoed through the streets.
"Do you even know how to drive?" She grabbed the roof of the car.
"Shut your mouth."
At least for a small moment, I needed to concentrate on not hitting the cars that were driving right at us. I swerved again, causing Eris to press into me. She muttered something under her breath again.
Every time I looked in the mirrors, the car was behind us. A gun was sticking out of the passenger's window, which fired at us again.
"Are they after you or me?" I asked Eris.
"After you." She scolded. "One hundred percent after you."
Awesome.
We got to a street that was less busy and easier to maneuver.
"Do you think you could start shooting at them?"
"And risk being hit the moment I stick my head out the window? No way. But if you want, I can drive and you take care of them."
"You don't know where to go. You don't know it here."
"Looks like you don't either. Watch out!" She screamed as we almost hit a walker. "What idiot gave you a driver's license?"
"For five minutes. Shut your mouth for five minutes." I looked at her. "Do you think you can do that?"
"If you kill us, I'll murder you."
"I'm aware of that." I said as I turned towards the harbor.
She's really not going to like my plan.
