"I have no idea who you hired to put that file together, but he should give you your money back." Looking at the folder in my hand, I stormed into Killian's office. "I learned more from Luna than this." I walked a little further into the room, still looking at the papers.
I only looked up when I heard someone clearing his throat.
Killian sat in his seat and glared at me. After that I shifted my gaze to the guy across from him and realized why he welcomed me like that.
I should have knocked.
"Eris. Simon." He pointed to the guy in front of him. "Simon. Eris." He pointed at me and exhaled heavily.
"We've met before." Simon said.
"Oh yeah." I smiled. "I didn't know then what I know now."
"Eris." There was a warning in Killian's voice.
I have not forgotten what Abraham said. Killian may have let it go, but there's something I don't like about him.
"Just kidding." I'm not.
"I'll see you off Simon. We'll meet some other time."
"Of course." He said with a fake smile.
Killian stood up and started walking towards the door. He walked past me and gave me a nasty look. Simon got up right behind him, but I stopped him before he left the room.
"I know what kind of person you are." I maintained eye contact with him.
"And I know exactly who you are." He leaned into my ear. "Stay away from this family." He slipped past me and followed Killian.
Guess we won't be BFFs.
"Next time knock." Killian finally returned and closed the door behind him.
I have already found a place opposite his and spread my legs on the table.
"Next time pick up the phone." I snorted. I called him five times this morning. Not once did he call back.
He sat down across from me and didn't take his eyes off my feet on the table. He didn't say anything, but it was enough for me to put my legs down.
"Did you come to scare away my visit, dirty the table, complain about my people or is there something else?"
"Well, first of all, I didn't scare anyone, he left voluntarily. Second, the table is obviously clean." I pointed to where my feet were. There wasn't even a scrap. "Third, I'm not complaining about your people, I'm just giving you advice. And fourth, I'm here for this." I threw the photo I took out of the folder onto his desk. It's the same one Luna told me about.
"What about it?" He frowned and looked at the photo.
"I am eighty-seven percent sure that those people know exactly who is responsible for the attacks on your family." I smiled victoriously.
"Not a chance." He threw the photo on the table. "Stay away from these people." He warned me.
"What?" I frowned. "What do you mean? If it's because I'm only eighty-seven percent sure..."
"Bradley Whitlock is a psychopath, end of discussion." He cut me off. "I don't even know why he was there, I said exactly who they should cut out."
"Excuse me? Cut out? Are you telling me there should have been more people? Why did you cross them out?"
"Because you are not in a state where..."
"Think carefully about how you want to finish that sentence, Killy." I warned him.
"I understand you think you're tough and invincible, but you're wrong. Forget these people, end of discussion."
"If I didn't know you, I'd think you actually care." I snorted.
"Don't get your hopes up. If that's all, I've got other things to do." He stood up and buttoned his jacket.
"Great, where are we going?" I straightened up and waited for his reaction.
"I have a meeting with the suppliers and you do whatever you want, just stay as far away from me as possible." He started to walk away from the study, but I followed him.
"Come on, you forbade me from going to see Whitlock, thus canceling my plans. I have nothing to do now."
"Go to Luna and find some program."
"I can't, she left yesterday." We walked out of the villa and Killian stopped.
"Really? Where?" He turned to me.
"Somewhere in Europe? I think. I didn't listen to her much, but I know she's going there for two weeks."
"Interesting." The corners of his mouth turned up.
"It is?" I frowned.
"Luna isn't the only one who went to Europe yesterday. Sebastian offered to buy a hotel and Theo went with him. Guess how long they're going to stay there."
"Two weeks." I smiled at the thought that Luna had tricked me.
"But that doesn't change the fact that you should find entertainment somewhere else. Go home and watch TV or whatever you do in your spare time." He continued on his way to the car.
"You're a load of fun, do you know that?"
"Only for you." He yelled before getting into the car.
He would probably mind if I stayed here, wouldn't he? Or at least stole Odin for a few hours. Maybe he wouldn't notice it.
I'll be gone before he comes back.
It was a little after eight in the evening when I finally got home. Exhausted and devastated from today, I entered the villa. The first thing I noticed was the noise coming from the living room. And the second thing was the smell of something burnt.
I walked into the living room to find the noise coming from the kitchen. I walked through the dining room and opened the kitchen door. The stench of burnt butter wafted into my face until I almost felt overwhelmed.
"What's going on here?" I looked at Eris by the stove in horror.
I ran up to her and turned off the stove that had the pan on it. I put it to the side and opened all the windows to let the bad smell out
"What are you still doing here?" I turned to Eris as I opened the last window.
"I was trying to make something to eat."
"Looks like you wanted to burn it to ashes here. What were you even trying to do?"
"Scrambled eggs." She shrugged.
"Oh my God." I grabbed my head. "You couldn't do that back at Luna's? I sent you home."
"Well. You told me to stay away from you. And as you can see, I stayed away from you all day." She leaned against the kitchen counter and crossed her arms over her breasts.
"Why didn't you call the cook to help you here then?"
"You have a cook here?" She raised an eyebrow.
"The number is on the fridge." I pointed to the piece of paper.
"That makes sense."
"You should have ordered a pizza."
"I'm already full of that. I've been eating it since I arrived. I stopped liking it a week ago."
"You're just lucky I'm hungry too." I pointed my finger at her. "Take the pot out of there." I pointed to the bottom line next to the stove. "The middle one." I elaborated before taking off my jacket and throwing it over the chair. I bent down to Odin who was lying carelessly beside the table and petted him. "She could easily burn it here and you wouldn't care." I laughed softly.
"This one?" She held up the pot for me to see.
"Yes. Take the pasta from the top shelf." I instructed her as I walked over to the fridge and took out the milk and cheese.
I went to the stove and poured milk in. I turned it on fully and took the box back to the refrigerator.
"Will you tell me what you're cooking?" Eris asked while I took out the cheese grater.
"I use cheese and pasta, guess."
"Macaroni and cheese?"
"Maybe you have something in that head after all." I smiled and walked over to her. She dodged so I could spread out on the kitchen counter.
"So this is all you need?" She stood next to me, almost too close, and watched what I was doing carefully.
"You wait for the milk to boil and add the pasta. You stir it until it's soft and the milk is barely in the pot anymore. Then you season it with whatever you want, add grated cheese and stir it all together. Simple." I looked over my shoulder at her and noticed how she looked away from my face.
"Maybe for you. I can burn anything." She turned and sat down at the table.
This is probably the only food that I can eat endlessly. I don't care how unhealthy it is. Kai, as the only sibling who can really cook, taught me this a few years ago. It's not difficult, and it doesn't take much time either.
"Watch that milk." I nodded my head towards the stove.
"Are you sure you want me there?" She slowly walked over to the stove.
"I just want you to look at the milk." I shrugged.
I don't know anything about her life or why she doesn't know how to cook, but whatever it is, it probably wasn't easy growing up in the conditions she did.
"Do you mind that I didn't leave?" After a while she broke the silence.
"As long as you didn't kill anyone." I put the cheese grater in the sink and checked the milk with one eye.
"You'd never know anyway." She laughed. "Collin told me to stick to people. And since Luna's gone, you're the only person I know in town. Odin enjoyed my presence. The poor thing was left alone."
"How many times have you given him something to eat?"
"You probably shouldn't ask. How can one resist those eyes of his? It's not my fault."
"Of course not." I laughed and picked up a landle which I handed her.
"Do you want me to stir it?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure you don't screw it up." I opened the pasta when I saw that the milk was starting to boil. I walked over to her and dumped half the bag into the milk and slowed it down.
"Why did you do that? Isn't the milk supposed to boil?"
"If you leave them longer on the slower setting, they'll be better, trust me. Now stir." I nodded my head towards the pot.
She shyly dipped a wooden spoon into the milk and slowly began to stir. But her pot was moving, so she tried to hold it to stand still.
"Careful." I caught her hand as she almost touched the hot pot. "Don't touch it down like that." I put her hand on the rubber handle. I looked up at her and noticed that she was looking at me in surprise. "What?"
"Nothing." She went back to mixing.
I reached over to the cabinet above our heads and pulled out all the spices I could find. From herb butter to chili.
"Are you allergic to something?"
"Why? To put it there?" She laughed and I just rolled my eyes. "Only strawberries. What about you?"
"Nothing, as far as I know."
"That must be cool. I bet you laughed at other kids when you were young."
"Are you kidding me? Of course I did."
"I knew it." She laughed.
For a moment we found ourselves in silence again. Not because we had nothing to talk about, but because it was peaceful.
But I had to stop it, as I saw that there was almost no milk left in the pot. "Try to see if they're ready."
She tried to scoop the pasta onto the flat ladle, but it always fell off her, and she almost burned herself.
"You know there are spoons, right?" I took one out and scooped the pasta onto it. I handed it to her and waited for what she would say. "So? Are they done?"
"I guess you should try, I'm not sure." She returned the spoon to me and I tasted one of the pasta.
"They're done." I turned off the stove and poured all the spices I had ready at my right hand into the pot and finally added the cheese. "Give it a good stir." I instructed her before I went to set the table in the dining room.
In the middle of the table I put a wooden serving board, on which the pot will go, and two plates with forks facing each other.
I went back to her and picked up the pot, walking back into the dining room with Eris on my heels. I placed the pot on the table while Eris sat down.
I took her plate and loaded her first. I put it in front of her and was slightly surprised that she started eating when I did.
"What's it like?" I asked.
"Perfect." She said while tossing in the pasta. I couldn't help but smile.
"You should eat slowly so you don't throw up later."
"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine."
I'm not worried about her. I'm just saying that it would be a shame for the food.
"After I eat this, and I have at least one more serving, I'll be out of your sight."
"There's a spare room if you don't want to go back to Luna." Where did this come from? What am I saying?
"We both know that's a bad idea. It would be a great temptation to kill you in your sleep."
"Maybe it would be the other way around. What do you know?"
"It's not nice to lie to yourself, Killy." She smiled at me and at that moment I realized that I didn't mind her presence at all.
For the first time in a long time, I had a conversation with someone that made me feel good.
But that doesn't mean anything, does it?
