"Finally." I slipped past Killian as he opened the door to this damned room. "I've been waiting for hours. Why can't I move freely around the villa?" I started walking away from the rooms.
"Don't know, you tell me." He caught up with me.
"Because you think I'm dangerous. And you're right, but you could still let me go. So what's on the agenda today? How do you want to jump start my memory?" I stopped in the living room and threw myself on the couch. "That is, if anything at all needs to be started."
"We're going into town."
"What?" I jumped off the couch. "Are you telling me I get to go out of here?"
"For a few hours, yes." He laughed. "Let's go." He nodded his head towards the front door and started walking away from me. "Don't forget, ten meters!" He screamed and I immediately came to my senses and ran after him before I got a shock.
I followed him into the car and frowned. "You ride in that?" I pointed to the car.
"What did you expect?"
"Maybe a sports car, but definitely not this. It's a family car."
"More space, you mind?" He opened the car door on the passenger side and waited for me.
"I know how to open doors." I walked up to him.
"And I was afraid not." He smiled.
I rolled my eyes and got in before he could say anything else. He closed the door behind me and went to the other side.
"Where are we even going?"
"Meeting an old friend." He said before we pulled out of the driveway.
He didn't say a word until we got to town. I noticed when he looked at me, but nothing else. I don't know if the silence bothered me or not. I can't decide.
"You're kidding me, right?" I frowned as he started walking towards one of the buildings. "Therapist? Really?" I walked past the blackboard behind him.
"Just follow me." He opened the door and let me in front of him.
We stopped by the reception. "Mr. Acker." The secretary smiled at him. "Collin is already expecting you."
"Thank you Hannah." He smiled at her, which surprisingly annoyed me. He started walking away from her, towards the door on the other side.
"Thank you Hannah." I mimicked him. "If you want to get up her skirt, it definitely works."
"Are you jealous?" He laughed.
"Oh come on." I snorted. "I would have to be interested in you."
"Whatever you say." Laughing, he knocked on the door and after a few seconds it opened.
"Killian, it's good to see you again. Where is..." His gaze fell on me and I tell you I've never seen a smile drop so quickly. "What the hell?"
"Where's who?" I glared at Killian demanding answers. Who is he taking here?
"How can you be here?" The guy in the door said. "You're..you're supposed to be dead. Killian, what is this?"
"Eris, nice to meet you, but not really. He's keeping me in his house against my will." I pointed at Killian. "Can we start this session or are we going to stand here all day?" I smiled at both of them.
"I'm lost." He grabbed his head. "This is Lyssa, isn't it?" He pointed at me while looking at Killian who nodded.
"She doesn't remember who we are. Can you do something about that?"
"Can I have five minutes before I come to my senses? Because right now..." He looked at me again. "I'm crazier than my patients."
"Did I travel here for this? I could have just stayed in the room." I walked past the therapist and left the two of them standing by the door.
I heard more of their voices before the door finally closed and the therapist sat down in front of me.
Only now, when he is sitting here, I took a good look at him. He doesn't look the worst.
I never thought that a therapist looked like this. If only I knew.
"I'm sorry for my confusion. I just didn't expect you to show up here." He exhaled. "It's not often that people rise from the dead."
"I didn't rise from the dead. Only one person did that, hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Jesus. Must be a funny guy. Not everyone can turn water into wine."
He looked at me scared. "Funny." He tried to smile but I can see he is a little scared.
I waited impatiently for the door to open again. I couldn't concentrate on work so I just let it go.
After three quarters of an hour, Lyssa appeared at the door with a smile on her face. "Ready to leave?"
"Wait here and don't kill anyone." I stood up and walked past her to Collin.
"I promise nothing." She laughed.
"So?" I asked as I closed the door.
"I don't know who that woman is, but don't bring her here again. She told me forty ways to kill me." He pointed his finger at me. "With a hairbrush!"
"Collin..."
"No." He jumped into my speech. "That woman is out of her mind. Don't even think of taking Lucy to her. She's crazy, can't you see that?"
"It's still Lyssa."
"I understand you've lost Lyssa and that you're hurting, but don't try to find her in her. Whatever happened, she's not her. You're trying to fill the void she left behind, but it's definitely not going to work that way."
"We think someone played with her head. But if that's true, they couldn't make her forget everything. It's not possible. Slowly, little by little, she's coming back to me. The things she says or does. You have to trust me."
"Look Killian, you're a good person. You may have had a hard time, but you've changed. But she can't. When I met Lyssa a year ago, her heart was full of pain, and rightfully so. But she had a heart. Eris doesn't have it. She is not interested in anything but herself. You have to get her out of the house before she does something that can't be undone."
Those are not the words I wanted to hear.
*****
"What did you do?" I frowned at Lyssa, who was sitting in the waiting room with a smile on her lips.
"Nothing. Why would I do anything?" She stood up. "Are we leaving already?"
"Yes." I said carefully and started walking towards the exit.
I smiled at Hannah as I walked past her desk, but she quickly looked away when she noticed me.
That hasn't happened yet. She always smiles at me and wishes me a nice day.
Weird.
"Something wrong?" Lyssa stopped next to me.
"Nothing." I shook my head and looked away from Hannah. I started walking towards the exit again.
"So where are we going now? Let me guess." She thought about it. "Hmm. How about a favorite ice cream stand? Or did I not have one?"
"We're going back home. No more stops." I added to the step, towards the car.
"Have you finally realized that it's pointless? That I'm really not who you think I am?"
"I have a meeting. I have to take you back. So get in." I opened the door for her.
"Always having so much fun with you." She snorted and got in.
"I'm glad you feel that way." I closed the door behind her and went to the driver's side. I started the car and we hit the road.
"Sooo." She spoke after a while. "Are you going to tell me who the therapist was waiting for there, since he wasn't waiting for me?"
"Why should I? You don't tell me anything either."
"I do, but you don't want to listen to me. There's a difference." She shrugged.
"Anything you say is someone else's saying, you don't have..." Before I could finish, I was interrupted by the ringing of my cell phone.
"Answering the phone behind the wheel? Who gave you a driver's license?" She laughed before I picked up the phone.
"Yes?"
"Promise me you won't get pissed." I heard Kai's voice.
"Why? What did you do? Is..." I looked at Lyssa. "Is everything alright?" Lucy, I wonder if Lucy is okay.
"She was playing and accidentally cut herself."
"She cut herself?!"
"Watch the road, idiot!" Lyssa shouted next to me.
"Is she okay? Have you been to the hospital?" I don't care if Lyssa can hear me. I need to know she's okay.
"It's only a small wound, but she won't let me treat her. She wants you."
"Okay, I'm on my way. I'll be there in a few minutes." I ended the call and turned into the parking lot.
"What are you doing? Where are we going?" She asked as we turned around. "Don't you have a meeting?"
I didn't answer her, I just drove.
"Why are we heading towards the port? Are you going to answer my questions? Of course not. I'm talking to myself. How else." She snorted.
"You stay in the car." I finally said as we pulled up in front of the house, close to the dock. "Do you understand me?" I looked over at Lyssa to find her carefully inspecting the house. "Do you understand me?" I asked more sternly.
"What?" She finally came to her senses. "Yes of course." She shook her head as if trying to get something out of her head.
"Good." I reached for the door but she stopped me.
"Wait. Ten meters. I don't plan on getting shocked today."
"Fuck, you're right." I took out my cell phone. "When I come back and you're not in the car, I don't care where you are, you'll get a shock and I'll drag you back if I have to."
"You're really a lot of fun today."
I'm losing my patience.
I've been staring at the door of the house for too long.
When I first saw it, something about it seemed familiar. As if I've been here before.
But I couldn't.
I would remember a house with a literally white fence.
It looks like it's from a movie where a happy family with children and a dog lives.
I wouldn't mind living in it, it looks comfortable.
Have my own house? It doesn't sound that bad.
Wait what? What am I saying again? I've been alone here for a long time. I'm starting to think nonsense.
I've had enough. I'm not going to wait here for four hours. He didn't say anything about not going in.
I got out of the car and started walking towards the house. I stopped on the terrace, in front of the door.
Could it be a trap? Some type of test?
No. He's not smart enough for that.
I grabbed the handle and opened the door. I walked in and almost tripped over a pile of shoes.
Children's shoes.
Why are there kid's shoes all over the ground? And what the hell is Killian doing here?
"Killian?"
I was waiting for some answer, but nothing. Silence.
I don't mind breaking into houses, but this is different. What if a family really lives here and I just flew in? I should probably get back in the car.
I moved the shoes that were in front of me with my foot, but when I looked up from the ground, a child was standing a few meters away.
A little girl with a yellow dress with white flowers on it.
She had long light brown hair and huge brown eyes with which she looked at me like a ghost.
Which is understandable. She is seeing a strange woman in the hallway of her house. That would scare any child. Especially as old as she is. Six or seven I guess.
I opened my mouth to say anything to calm her down so she wouldn't scream.
Because I expected it. That she starts screaming. But that didn't happen.
"Mommy!" She ran to me.
Sorry what? What did she just say?
She slammed that tiny body of hers right into me. She wrapped her arms around my waist and pressed her head to my stomach.
What is going on? Can someone explain this to me?
Why did she call me mom just now?
Hello? Answers?
My hands were close to my body, impossible to move even an inch.
I looked at the small creature that was hugging me tightly.
"I...I'm...I'm not..." I couldn't finish whatever that was. Killian appeared in the place where the little girl was standing a moment ago.
"Lucy, come here."
"But it's mommy." She pulled back a little and looked up at me. A big smile settled on her face.
"Lucy, now." He said more sternly.
"No!" She screamed and squeezed me tighter.
"I told you to stay in the car. What didn't you understand?" This was already directed at me.
I heard his question, but I didn't care what he was asking.
Why did this little creature called me her mother? What have I gotten myself into?
I probably really should've stayed in the car.
