Fear.
There are many things that can be hidden under this word. It's different for everyone.
Fear of certain kinds of animals, heights, death, losing someone we care about, performing in front of many people, rejection. Fear that people will judge us.
Everyone is different and has different fears.
And I? What am I afraid of?
Shopping.
Not shopping in general, but shopping where Luna switches in her head.
That is happening right now.
"This would look amazing on you." She walked over to me with another piece of cloth, this time blue, and placed it next to me. "Or maybe not." She slowly returned it to the place she had taken it from.
"What are we even doing here? Can't I wear some of my clothes?"
"Really?" She turned to me. "You brought one bag with about three outfits in it. So no, you can't wear any of your clothes." She crossed her arms over her breasts. "Is there anything else you want to say?" She challenged me.
"Can we leave?"
"Can you repeat that?" She raised an eyebrow.
Yep, I'm definitely starting to fear her.
"Blue is not my color." I laughed nervously.
"That's what I thought."
Why do I feel like I'm under a slipper? It's only Luna after all. Harmless Luna.
It's not like she's holding a knife to my throat and forcing me to be here. Although she would probably be able to.
Okay, I admit it. I'm a little afraid of her.
Why? Maybe it's because she can cut me in my sleep if she sees me in the kitchen one more time.
She moved slightly away from it as she walked from one rack of hangers to the next.
This is my chance to escape.
I was really planning to run away. Pack up and get out of New York. Escape somewhere where she wouldn't find me. Because if I left her here, I'd have to.
I wanted to risk it anyway. But then I noticed a man.
He was standing in the front door of the store, his gaze fixed on Luna. He didn't even try to hide it.
His dark brown hair, which was sometimes blonde, fell into his eyes. I immediately noticed how tall and well-built he was. His sharp sledge was decorated with a slight stubble and his narrow lips were slightly parted.
I have to say, Luna looks like an angel, but you can't tell me that a stranger would look at her like that.
He didn't notice his surroundings at all. Probably as much as Luna was oblivious to him. She was just rummaging through things there, which had all her attention.
I hope it will keep her busy for a while, while I go have a nice chat with Mr. Stalker.
I walked past the cash register to the entrance. I looked around and counted how many people were in our proximity.
I walked through the entrance while Mr. Stalker was still paying no attention to anyone but Luna. I bumped into him with my shoulder on purpose, causing him to recover.
"I am extremely sorry." I tried to sound nice and bent down to pick up his wallet, which fell out on impact.
"That's fine." He bent down with me. The moment he touched the surface of the wallet, I stopped him.
He looked up at me confused. With my right hand, I uncovered the dagger that was hidden under my leather jacket. "Let's go somewhere private. Take it easy." I removed my hand from his and we both straightened up.
Before we went around the corner of the building, I checked where Luna was. Surprisingly still next to some shirts.
When we were somewhere where no one could see us, I pulled out a dagger and put it to his neck. His back hit the wall of the building.
What freaked me out was that he didn't fight back.
Who the hell is this guy and why isn't he afraid of me holding a dagger to his throat?
"Why were you watching her?" I started when I realized he wasn't going to speak first.
"Watching who?" His voice was rough, but there was something gentle about it.
"Don't play with me. I don't like it." I pressed the blade to his neck.
"She's a...friend."
"A friend?" I heard a familiar voice next to us. "Really?" Luna snorted. "That's new to me."
I shouldn't have looked at her. It was a bad idea. Her look was killing.
Her arms were folded across her chest and the way she stood was uncomfortable to say the least. She was scary.
This time it's not me who should be afraid. It should be this hottie.
"Are you going to tell your friend to put that dagger down?" And he is funny.
"Eris." I looked at her. She is not for real, is she? "You should press harder." She said with a stern look.
"Your wish is my command." I smiled and nuzzled his neck, causing me to damage his skin slightly.
"Are you serious Lu?"
"You have no right to call me that." She approached us and I considered leaving the dagger to her. "What are you doing here Theo?"
Theo? Where have I heard that name before?
"His eyes were such a beautiful blue. Like the sea." Luna sighed heavily. "I really loved him, Eris. She looked at me sadly.
"He was a fool to let you go."
"Theo was everything but a fool. At least that's what I thought. And I was supposed to marry him. He would be my fool."
Theo! Theo, like her fiance Theo!
No way.
I'm ready to cut the man Luna loves. Or she loved. She doesn't seem to mind though.
"Killian told me he saw you here and that you were leaving town. I wanted to know if..."
"Don't you think it's a little late to be interested?" She interrupted him.
Have I already said that I don't like the feeling of being third wheeling? If not,I'm saying it now. I don't like the position of the third wheel. I will leave it to someone else.
"Lu, please..."
"I told you not to call me that." She jumped to us and I retreated. I left her a space, which she immediately filled with her presence. She stood right in front of him. I think they are too close.
Right now, I'm not sure if she's going to strangle him or kiss him in the near future. Whatever it is, I should probably leave and give them some space.
Or go buy some popcorn.
"What right do you have to just show up here and want something from me?" Her voice broke.
"I... I'm sorry.
If he already knew it was coming, he should have at least rehearsed what he was going to say, because this is so sad. There is no effort involved. I am sorry? Really? As if everything should be good now because he said so. Men are special creatures.
"Leave." Luna's voice hardened and she backed away from him. "And since you're Killian's little bitch, tell him we're not going anywhere. Whether he likes it or not."
I expected him to repeat "I'm sorry" once more, but it didn't happen. He looked at Luna with a broken look until he left.
I noticed Luna looking at him the whole time he was walking away from us. She didn't move a bit.
"Luna?" I walked up to her and put my hand on her shoulder.
Before I could say or do anything else, she turned and hugged me. She buried her head in my shoulder and hugged me tightly.
And I just stood there. What should I do? I was not trained for such things. Comfort someone? That's a Spanish village for me.
Should I hug her? I guess so, right?
"Luna, I don't know what I am suppose..."
"Just...just stand." She said in a shaky voice.
Yeah, I can do that.
*****
"Are you sure you want to go?" I watched Luna in front of the mirror while I stood in the doorway, leaning against its frame.
"Yes I'm sure." She put on a second, gold earring. "And you're sure you want to go in?" She nodded her head at my outfit.
I haven't changed much about myself. I bought myself a brand new pair of black jeans and a t-shirt that I put on with my leather jacket that I've been wearing for ages.
Luna, on the other side, looks a little too formal. Her white dress reached her ankles. It had quite a deep neckline and there was a large cutout on the left side, from mid-thigh down. Her long and tanned legs stood out in that dress.
"At least take that bandana off. It's old."
I grabbed the bandana around my wrist and ran my fingers through it. Luna doesn't know who it belonged to. She has no way of knowing. I never told her anything about myself.
About life before white snakes. About family.
There was never a reason for it. It's in the past. And what's in the past should stay in the past.
"But I like it." I crossed my arms over my breasts.
"Then at least let me fix the bruises on your neck."
She came closer to me with a brush that she had makeup on, I assume, and carefully began applying it to my neck.
"Your throat doesn't hurt when you talk anymore, does it?" I shook my head in the negative. "That's good."
"How far is the club?"
"Just a few minutes. She pulled away. "You look better now." She smiled. "We can go."
'It's probably too late to call it off, isn't it?' That's the question I asked myself the whole way in the car. When we finally stopped somewhere, it was too late to ask her. I have no choice but to go there.
As we got out of the car, I noticed a large final sign on a black background. 1Oak.
There were hundreds of people standing in front of the entrance, but it didn't look like security was letting anyone in. People's conversations echoed across the street and I wondered if it could be heard inside the club as well.
"Are you going to be standing there long?" Luna raised an eyebrow as she passed the front door. "We are going." She rolled her eyes, grabbed my hand and started pulling me towards the club.
Most of the people were giving us really annoyed looks when we stopped by security. They were not very happy that we got to the front of the line.
Luna took out the club card that was also the invitation and handed it to the security guard with a smile.
He scanned Luna from head to toe and then me. "Is she with you?" He returned his gaze to her.
"Yes." She smiled.
Without another word, he ducked out of our way and opened the large, black door behind him. We found ourselves in a black corridor where there was a door at the end.
At that moment, I began to consider all my life decisions.
It looks like we're going to be executed there.
As we reached the door, music could be heard faintly from behind it.
Before we could open or knock, the door swung open and another security guard stood inside, going to the side, to let us through.
I already reflexively looked around the whole bar, at least as far as I could see.
Below us was a black and white floor with a shiny surface. Along the walls were brown leather sofas on which people, mostly men, were sitting.
There was a smaller dance floor on which there were too many people. They were pushing each other there, but it didn't seem like anyone was bothered.
For the fact that there are quite a lot of people in suits playing heresongs like in a normal bar. "Where them girls at" was the song currently playing. I would say it lowers the prestige, but this is more my style than slow songs.
I noticed the stairs on the other side of the bar. They led down to where there was probably another room similar to this one.
But what stopped me were the people at the bar.
Oh shit.
"Luna what kind of club is this?"
"What do you mean?" She frowned and looked around the room. "It's a club." She shrugged. "What's wrong with it?"
"Luna." I said through gritted teeth as I grabbed her hand. "These people are from the mafia. Who gave you that card?" I must be dreaming about this. "We have to get out of here." I started to drag her back to the exit when she stopped.
"What? No. We're not going anywhere. If you're worried about Killian being here, you don't have to be. He won't be here. I've lived under the same roof with him for a while, so I know he doesn't do things like that."
"You can't know that."
"Yes I can. The guy doesn't know what fun is. He wakes up in the morning, then works and then goes to bed. That's his everyday life. The only time he leaves the house is when he goes to a meeting. He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, he even has a problem, when someone touches him. Do you think he would just show up here? He doesn't have time for such things."
"He found some when he came to your apartment and tried to kill me."
"Eris, are you scared of him?" She frowned.
"What? No." I snorted. "Are you crazy?" I'm not afraid of some guy who's from the mafia.
"Well, it looks like you're scared of him. He won't be here. I'm sure of that."
"How sure?"
"One hundred percent sure." I noticed that she hesitated slightly. I don't like it. "Just enjoy the evening, okay?"
"Yay." I faked a smile.
This is going to be a disaster.

Hope you enjoyed. <3
