(Y/n)'s POV
It was a brand new day and the events that happened last night still play inside my head. I walk along the paved sidewalk on the edge of the footpath, with one of my arms outstretched to keep my balance from slipping off and going on the street. My other arm held my skateboard on my side as my backpack was slung over the shoulder of the same arm. To anyone who walks by, I look like any normal kid going to school, but that wasn't the case since today wasn't a school day.
As soon as I make it to a large field of grass that belongs to a public park, I look around to see if I can find a familiar pink-haired male anywhere, which explains why I was out here in the first place.
The reason why I was outside was because I was looking for Kaoru. Last night, before we left "S," Cherry asked if I wanted to meet up with him and I agreed. I thought it would be a good opportunity to give him a chance to be a father and to catch up on things relating to me and my mother. I want to know everything about her, starting from when he first met her. And maybe I could share a few things with my father about how my mother was like taking care of me.
"Where could he be?" I mumble those words to myself as my eyes scan the area. I pulled my phone out of my jacket pocket, looked down at the time, and saw that it was a few minutes after 10:00, which is when he said he would be here.
Just as I was about to think that maybe he bailed out at the last minute, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I got a bit startled as I turned around to see who was standing there, only to see Kaoru himself standing there with a small smile on his face. He was wearing his normal attire, which was a plain navy blue kimono that I had seen him wear before along with his silver glasses.
"Hello, (Y/n). I'm glad you made it here safely," he tells me with a small bow. I return the gesture as I put my phone back in my jacket pocket. "Hi, Kaoru. I hope you weren't waiting long," I told him as respectfully as I could. After I found out that he was my father, there hadn't been a time when I called him "Dad" yet. I was still waiting for the right moment since there was still so much going on and so many questions I wanted to ask.
Kaoru shakes his head in response to my statement. "No, I was not waiting long. Would you like to sit on the bench over there?" he then asks as he points toward a wooden bench that isn't far from where we are standing. Finding that a good idea, I nod my head.
"Sure, we can do that." After I say that, we make our way over to the bench. The whole way there, Kaoru still had his hand on my shoulder as if he was leading me there in a kind and gentle manner. Once we were there, we sat down together and I placed my skateboard and my backpack on the ground.
Every once in a while, I would constantly look around as if I was expecting someone else to be there. I guess I was still a little paranoid that I might run into that one inspector who planned on taking me away that one time at the hospital, and I think Kaoru caught on to that because he placed his hand on mine to get my attention.
"You don't have to worry about being taken away, (Y/n). I won't let that happen again," he tells me reassuringly. I let out a sigh of relief, but some part of me was still worried. We still weren't sure about her whereabouts or her current plans and I couldn't get that nagging feeling away from me.
"A-are you sure? What if--" I start to say, but was cut off when Kaoru reassuringly squeezed my hand and spoke in the same tone.
"Don't think that much of it. You're with me and the inspector can't do anything. I won't let her."
After Kaoru's reassuring words, I felt calm and let out a sigh of relief. Kaoru also sighed, but his tone was different from mine. "Besides, I wanted to talk to you about your mother." His words piqued my interest, and he released my hand, sitting up straighter. "I can tell you have many questions, and I won't stop you from asking. I'll answer honestly and truthfully."
Now it was my time to ask whatever was on my mind. I didn't even know where to start. There were so many questions that were running through my head that I just wanted to ask them all at once. With my head looking down, I rest my hands on my lap as my fingers grip onto my leggings.
"My mother..." I start off saying before continuing. "How did you first meet her?"
As I raised my gaze towards Kaoru, I noticed that he appeared to be lost in contemplation. It seemed as though he was struggling to find the right words to reply, but then he suddenly relaxed. His facial expression softened and a faint smile appeared on his lips, suggesting that he was certainly contemplating about my mother.
"I met her when I was in high school," he started to explain and I listened carefully since this was going to be a chance for me to know more about my mom. "Kojiro and I were out skating with a couple of other skaters at an abandoned building late at night. It was just us boys performing tricks on skateboards, but then (M/n) showed up. Many of the boys made fun of her for being a girl who loves to skateboard, but the moment I saw her, I knew she had talent... just like you," he says as he looks down at me with the same smile that never disappeared. It made me smile as well knowing that he sees a bit of my mom's talent in me and I stay silent as he continues.
"She was a very daring person and showed off most of her tricks to everyone. And the moment she soared through the air, it was as if I saw something in her that sparked my interest. Not only was she very talented, but she was also very beautiful. That was when I fell in love with her."
Now his explanation was starting to get interesting and it sure sparked my interest even more. "So then, how did you approach her?" I asked him, wanting to know more.
"Oh, I didn't approach her. She approached me," he tells me with a small chuckle. My eyes widen a bit at that speck of information. I always had the feeling that he would have gone to my mom first since that's usually how fairy tales go. "It's safe to assume that she noticed I was admiring her, and she became interested in getting to know me. Even though we didn't attend the same school, we managed to find ways to meet up. As it turned out, she had been skateboarding for most of her life and had developed a love for the sport. From then on, Kojiro and I would sometimes stay out to skate with her. We formed a group, and she always felt welcome to be around us. This continued until she graduated from high school, while I was still in my senior year."
At the thought of high school, I remember Joe had told me something, at the time when we were at the hospital after Cherry's accident, that had to do with him and Kaoru during high school. We were talking about Adam...
"Joe mentioned to me that you both met Adam during high school," I bring up to Kaoru. "Does that mean my mom met him with you guys, too?"
Just by mentioning Adam's name, I could tell that Kaoru didn't want to talk about him. But in the sake of the story, something had to be brought up about him.
"Yes, she did," he started off with a small huff. "Our group of three slowly turned into a group of four ever since Adam showed up. Although he was a talented skateboarder, I could sense that Adam only hung out with us because of your mother's exceptional skating skills. He was interested in (M/n), and I became protective of her."
I cringed just by hearing that. In all my time getting to know Adam, one thing for certain was that he meant trouble in the past. "What would he do?" I ask with a slightly disgusted tone of voice.
"Whenever we skated together as a group, I noticed how close he would get to her. I tried to intervene, but I think I did it too much. Eventually, (M/n) pulled me aside and asked what was wrong. I opened up and told her about everything I was feeling, including my own feelings towards her." My eyes widen a bit after hearing Kaoru say that. I knew that if I had been there to witness their confession, I probably would have been smiling from ear to ear. I wait to hear him say how my mother reacted to this. "Surprisingly, she also confessed that she had feelings for me, which made me feel better about the situation..."
Now a smile made its way onto my face as many things were shouting inside my head. 'That's how they confessed! Now I finally know how it happened!' My thoughts scream, but it's silent outside my mind.
"...And ever since then, I put my full trust in her whenever it ever came to skating. I knew I didn't have to worry because, knowing how your mother is, she knows how to stand up for herself. She was a very strong woman, and she stayed strong when the day came when she had to leave Okinawa."
There was a bit of silence as Kaoru's facial expression changed from a calm one to a slightly disturbed and saddened one. I started to lose my smile because of that because I knew something was bothering him. He inhales deeply before speaking in a softer tone. "It was very heartbreaking, but she had no choice. She had to return to America to follow her career path, even if her parents were forcing her to do so."
I nod my head, almost as if I was telling him that I understood his feelings. My mom told me everything about how my grandparents were very controlling over her and her future. Surprisingly, I was able to understand what she meant at that young age.
"I never liked my grandparents, even if I don't remember them," I say with my arms crossing over my chest and I look up towards the sky. "My mom told me stories about what happened after I was born. She said that my grandparents weren't going to support her for having a baby that early because it would also ruin plans for her career. But after so much yelling and arguing, she moved out and wanted to start a new life with me."
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of astonishment in his eyes-- almost as if what I was saying about my mom was news to him. Or maybe it confirmed something he had already suspected. To confirm my suspicions, I turned my head and looked directly at him. He may have thought I was waiting for a response because he spoke...
"I see. The last time I saw her was many years later. She came to visit a few months before you arrived in Okinawa. By then, 'S' had already been created and Kojiro and I were well-known there, as well as Adam. She told me everything that had happened, which was similar to what you just explained, and she also mentioned that her parents had forced her to cut communication with me. However, I was happy to hear that she had made enough money to move here and that she was bringing a surprise with her." He looked to be lost in his own head when he explained all of that, because now after he said that and he looked into my (e/c) eyes, I saw the corner of his lips starting to tug upwards, indicating that he was smiling. "Now I realize that that surprise was you."
My heart warmed up just hearing Kaoru say that. Coming from a father, this meant so much to me. But before I could fangirl more about that wholesome statement, there was something else I wanted to know about that still haunts me to this day.
"So, how did you find out about Mom's death?" I ask with my head tilted to the side a bit. Now that we're going to be talking about the most tragic part of my mother's story, I had a feeling that a few tears were going to be shed, whether those were going to be my tears or Kaoru's tears.
Kaoru's smile faded and he took a moment to speak, and his voice also sounded a bit shaky as he spoke. "I found out when a police officer came to my house and told me what had happened to her. I was very heartbroken when I heard the news and things were never the same after that," Kaoru says. Looking closely, I could see his eyes tearing up and it made me feel a lump in my throat just seeing him sad. It made me want to cry, too. Kaoru takes out his fan from his kimono and holds it close to his face to conceal his tears.
The next thing he said broke my heart: "I just wish I knew about you sooner, then I could have at least tried to be there for you and her. I wish I was there to watch you grow up."
I could see why he felt so miserable right now. I bet things would have been different if I had met him sooner and didn't have to figure out until later that he was my dad. With a sigh, I averted my gaze and looked down with my hands on my knees, feeling tears of my own already spilling from my eyes.
As I wipe my tear-stained face, a bird flies by in the corner of my eye and lands on a branch in a nearby tree. It chirps ever so lightly that it sounds like a whistle of a very melodic tune or lullaby. I remembered the times when my mom got to sing and hum lullabies to me before bed and I still miss it till this day. She did so many things with me and always saved those memories in photos. Just looking at them makes me feel better sometimes...
Photos...
With a small gasp, I opened my backpack that was under the bench and reached in there to find the box that kept that one photo I found of her and my father. There were other pictures in the same box and thought I should show them to Kaoru. I cleared my throat so that I could talk clearly and not sound hoarse. "If it makes you feel better, Mom took pictures of me when I was younger. This was when she was first teaching me how to skateboard for the first time," I say as I hold them out towards him.
Putting his fan down just a bit, Kaoru looks at the photos I was holding and takes them in his hands. There were only two photos, but I was hoping that they would help him not feel sad anymore. Both of them had cute pictures of me when I was around five years old and was on a skateboard.
After looking at them, I shifted my gaze to look up at Kaoru and I could see some of the sadness fading away the moment he saw my younger self. He even manages to muster a small chuckle as the smile comes back.
"You look so adorable in these photos..." He looks down at me and he smiles warmly at me. "...And you still look adorable up until now."
I felt my face heat up in embarrassment at Kaoru calling me cute. I know those words are coming from my father, but it always seems to cause my heart to flutter. Clearing my throat again for the second time, I try to change the subject. "What else can you tell me about my mom? Other than skating, was there anything else she liked to do?"
Kaoru handed the photos back to me and I put them back in the box from my backpack as he replied, all while I was listening the entire time.
"Her passion for art was immense. She firmly believed that the world had a plethora of art styles, and she considered skateboarding as one of them. She felt that the skill involved in skateboarding helped her to be more creative. As a matter of fact, it's because of her that I own a skateboard now."
I gasped in realization of what skateboard he was talking about and I sat up after zipping my bag closed. "Carla?" I ask with a lightened tone in my voice, to which Kaoru nods in response. "Yes, she helped me decide what kind of newer skateboard would be a good fit for me. She even suggested a name for it, 'Carla', which I kept remembering until the day I got my very own improved skateboard."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing from him. I couldn't even hold back the smile that wanted to express my happiness. 'Mom named his skateboard Carla! It was her idea to name her that!' It keeps repeating in my head and I get excited at these new things I've never known about my mother.
"Wow. I didn't know that," I mumble beneath my breath as my smile became brighter.
Suddenly, another voice spoke up from behind, almost startling us: "Tell me about it. He would not shut up about that girl."
Kaoru and I turn around in a quick motion and my eyes widen in shock while the AI skater's eyes widen in annoyance at who was standing there behind the bench we were sitting on. I say the first thing that comes to mind at the sight of this person.
"Joe!"
That's right! The six-pack skater was standing there with one of his signature smirks that he has. The only difference about him right now is that he's not in his usual skater outfit. He was in an orange and white-striped buttoned-up shirt with a jacket over along with tattered-up jeans. But before I could say anything else, I was interrupted by Kaoru...
"You dimwit! What are you doing here?" he asks as his glaring eyes never leave Joe.
"I thought I should come by and see how things are doing between you two," Joe responds as he walks over and sits to the left of Kaoru, as the said pink-haired male gets even more annoyed. I swear I could see a tick mark on the side of his head as his childhood friend continued to speak. "Besides, I also wanted to make sure you aren't leaving out any important details to your story about (M/n)."
I get a bit curious at what he meant by the last part and tilt my head to the side a bit. "Like what?" I asked him, to which Joe looked back at me with a warm smile.
"Back when (M/n) started hanging out with us, Koaru would not stop thinking about her. He would even daydream during class that he wasn't focusing on the lesson. I bet there were even times when he hugged his pillow every night and pretended that it was your mother," he explains with a smirk, his chuckle sounding dark almost like he just revealed a deep and dark secret.
I felt my cheeks get red from how embarrassing that may sound but I was also quite curious and excited. I looked over at Kaoru with sparkles in my eyes, wanting to know if what he was saying was true. He sees the look I am giving and quickly shakes his head, grumbling something to himself as he redirects his focus to Joe. "Stop telling her lies, you dopey gorilla!"
"Oh, come on! Am I lying?" Joe says with a sly tone of voice as his smirk never disappears. The argument continues between the two of them and I'm sitting here on the bench as I watch.
"Yes, you certainly are!"
"Okay, you don't need to get all worked up just because you're embarrassed about (Y/n) finding out about all this. Heck, I'm still surprised that you were able to have a kid with the woman you loved so dearly."
Their yelling slowly started to switch into their usual Japanese dialogue and I couldn't tell what they were saying by how fast they were talking. I let out a sigh as I slumped back against the bench. I look up as their voices travel into one ear and then out the other. But despite how loud they were, I missed this. It felt like things were going back to the way they were in the beginning, except for the fact that I was still trying to be aware of my surroundings. Even though it is confirmed that Kaoru is my father, some doubt still lingers that I'll be sent back to America, which I don't want to happen.
Speaking of being aware of my surroundings, underneath all of the yelling of the two males who sounded like a married couple, I heard the crunching of footsteps over grass getting louder and approaching our spot. It actually sounded like there were two pairs of footsteps approaching. I quickly turn around to look over the bench and my eyes widen in surprise at the sight of a familiar tall man, along with another man, in a dark blue business suit.
.
.
"Adam?" I say the first thing that comes to mind as the gears in my head are racing to remember what his real name is... 'Honestly, I forgot what his real name was. I don't even remember if he ever told me since the last time we saw each other outside of 'S.'' He had on a smirk that I could only describe belonged to the devil himself. And I'm sure with me saying his name it caught Kaoru and Joe's attention because now they went silent and their bodies shifted to look in the same direction I was currently looking at.
"Hello, there, (Y/n). I hope I'm not interrupting anything," Adam says as he takes a step forward. But as he does, Kaoru is the first out of the three of us on the bench to stand up defensively with his closed fan in one hand. "Yes, you are, Adam. I suggest you walk away now before things get bad," Kaoru says in English and also in a threatening way, which even surprised me. Joe also stands up and it looks like he is about to get involved as well, but Adam cuts him off before he can even speak.
"I'll only be here for a minute," he says as he looks over at Kaoru. "I need to have a talk with your little daughter." Kaoru didn't seem to like the sound of that and glared at him.
"Not a chance—"
"It regards having to do with her current situation," Adam then states, which catches my attention. What he wants to talk about probably has something to do with me leaving Okinawa. I get off the bench and step away from it.
"What do you mean by that?" I ask, wanting to know since I don't know if what he's going to tell me is good or bad news.
Adam looks back at me and replies. "I'll gladly tell you... if that's okay with your bodyguards," he tells me, referring to Kaoru and Joe as the bodyguards. I couldn't tell if that was supposed to be an insult or anything, but I let it slide for now and looked over at my father.
He looks back at me with a bit of a look of worry. He has many reasons not to trust Adam when it comes to me and skating, but this was important. I couldn't hold back my curiosity anymore and sighed in defeat. "Let me talk with him. If he tries to do anything, I'll holler," I tell Kaoru reassuringly. It looked like he was about to protest, but he cut himself off and thought about it. He, too, lets out a defeated sigh before nodding.
"Okay. Just be careful," Kaoru tells me, to which I nod back before looking over at Adam, whose smirk never faded. 'Sometimes I just want to smack that smirk right off his face,' I think to myself as I hesitantly walk over to him.
We didn't go far from the bench, but now it was just me, Adam, and his secretary, Tadashi. Tadashi doesn't say much as he bows his head down as a greeting. I find some respect for him considering how nice he is, so I return a quick bow before I look back at Adam.
"Hello, again, Adam," I tell him with my arms crossed over my chest to show how much I didn't feel like talking with him, but I had to to see what news he had to bring.
"Hello, again, (Y/n). It's been a few hours, hasn't it?" Adam says in return with his hands behind his back. "No, it hasn't, actually," I tell him as if making a point, but then change the subject. "What is it that you want to tell me about?"
"Well, my dear child..." he starts, "...I've come here to tell you about Inspector Kiriko Kamata."
It took me a few seconds to comprehend who he was talking about because, like before, I'm not good at memorizing names. The only thing that made me realize was when he said "Inspector." "What about her?" I ask curiously, my arms being less tense from their current position.
Adam takes a moment to collect all of his thoughts and then speaks, saying, "It has to a conclusion that you wouldn't have to worry about seeing her anytime soon." After hearing those words leave his mouth, my eyes widen in surprise and relief. I didn't think what he was saying was true, but he continued right before I could ask anything. "She is being sent back to America as we speak, which leaves her off my case as well as yours. And for any other suspicions, I may have gathered a few documents together to ensure that you remain here in Okinawa."
I was beyond shocked at this point. 'How was he able to do that? Maybe it had to do with his politician magic or something.' Shaking my head as if to brush my thoughts to the side, I try to find the words to speak, fumbling a bit while doing so.
"W-wait, you're saying that I'm not going to be sent away?" I ask almost desperately, to which Adam nods his head with a surprisingly warm smile.
"That is true. Originally, I was just going to send her off in regards to my problems, but I decided last minute to consider you," he says as his gaze shifts to look up towards the sky, almost as if he was thinking of something else to say. He did eventually after a few quiet seconds. "The other night, you opened up a new perspective I thought I lost so long ago. You showed me what it was like to view skateboarding as something fun other than a necessity. So, take all of this as a gratitude of my appreciation."
He looked back down at me as the only thing that was written all over my face was astonishment and... maybe a bit of appreciation. I never stopped to think that Adam would do something as nice as this for me. Now it's thanks to him that I get to live my life here with my father.
I quickly snap out of my trance and clear my throat before saying something. "Wow, uh... thanks, I guess."
Adam chuckles at how I thank him, considering that it feels a little weird to be thanking a guy like him. But who knows... Some people can change for the better. "You're very welcome, (Y/n). That was all I needed to talk to you about. Tadashi and I will be off now... unless you have anything else you want to say," Adam says.
I shake my head as I take a step back. "No, that's okay. I'll be heading back to Kaoru and Joe now," I inform him. He nods his head to that. "Of course. I'll see you soon, Phoenix," he says as he straightens the sleeve of his business suit. I watch as he walks off, but Tadashi stays behind for a quick moment, saying, "Have a good day, miss Sakurayashiki," and then he follows Adam.
I had to remember that the name Sakurayashiki was now part of my name since Kaoru is my biological father. But Adam didn't need to call me by my skater name out here. Letting out a sigh, I grumble to myself, "Do I need to tell Adam to not call me by my skater name out in public? Phoenix only exists at 'S'..." I froze for a moment and my eyes widen a slight bit at the realization of what I said... or more like how I said it.
"Oh, my God, I'm starting to sound like my father."
3rd POV
At the bench, Kaoru and Kojiro were standing while waiting for the conversation between (Y/n) and Adam to finish. Kojiro was mostly standing while Kaoru was pacing back and forth, looking a bit anxious. Some part of him wanted to march on over and hear what was being said, but he had to stop himself from doing so.
With a heavy sigh, Kaoru finally stops pacing and places his hand on his temple in frustration, speaking in his original language now that it's just the two of them. "I should just go over there. It shouldn't be taking them this long to—"
"Hey, calm down. I know how worried you are, but I think (Y/n) can handle this. Remember, she can take care of herself... That's what she's been doing most of the time, hasn't she?" Kojiro tells his childhood friend. Not wanting to admit that he was worried, Kaoru had to take his word for it. (Y/n) is still so young and has grown to be a bit mature. "But I have the right to know what they are discussing. I am her father," Kaoru tries to argue back, but he stops when Kojiro places his hand on his shoulder.
"And you will know as soon as (Y/n) gets back here. She is still a child, but put some trust in her. You don't want to make the same mistake you made earlier, do you?" Kojiro asks the pink-haired male. The said pink-haired male turns his head and glares at him, with the sun reflecting off his glasses to hide that glare in his eyes.
"You're still going to pester me with that, aren't you?"
"What can I say?" Kojiro says with a shrug. "You messed up big time. I just don't want you to do anything like that again and I'm sure you don't want the same either. I care for my niece, too, you know."
"You're niece?!" Kaoru asks out loud, questioning Kojiro's use of words.
"Of course! I can legally say that now!" The green-haired male says proudly while crossing his arms over his chest. Kaoru was just about to argue against that claim but stopped when both males noticed (Y/n) coming back to the bench.
Kaoru lets out a relieved sigh he didn't know he was holding back and walks over to his child and kneels to their eye level. "(Y/n), what happened? What did he tell you?" he asked the (h/c)-haired girl, going back to speaking in English, as Kojiro also stood beside the two. (Y/n) took a moment to think about what Adam told her and she couldn't hold back her smile anymore. Now the adults were wondering what was going on.
But not long after, she answered back. "Adam told me that I get to stay here... with you," she explains briefly, directing her wording towards Kaoru mostly. The said man's eyes widened in shock after hearing the news and was more than just relieved now.
"What? He said that?" Kaoru asks, not knowing what else to say.
Kojiro, on the other hand, chuckles as he, too, is amazed by the news. He never thought that Adam would do anything like that. "That bastard. Who knew he had a heart," he mumbles to himself, but loud enough for the other two to hear.
(Y/n) stood there with a brighter smile as something else came to mind and wanted to share with Kaoru. "There's something else I want to tell you after the conversation Adam and I had," she announces, getting Kaoru's attention. "I'm glad to have a father like you, Kaoru. I want to skate infinitely with you, just like how my mom would have wanted me to do."
Hearing those words felt like an arrow shot right through Kaoru's heart. It's important things like this from (Y/n) that make him happy. "My sweet daughter, I promise you that I will always be here to care for you and to support you. I love you very much, (Y/n)," he tells his child. The nine-year-old had the urge to hug her father, and that's exactly what she does. Kaoru didn't hesitate to hug her back as they were now having a father-daughter bonding moment right now. Kojiro was proud of his childhood friend for successfully making (Y/n) feel like she could rely on him whenever she needed to.
One thing is for sure, (Y/n)'s mother would be proud of her daughter for finally achieving her goal of finding the one role model she was missing in her life. Not only will life be easier for the little girl in the future, but now she can focus on the present, which is to skate with the one she calls her father...

"Memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose. But what if the one you are seeking is not a memory? Are they truly lost...?
...Sometimes the one thing you are looking for is the one thing you can't see."
"As the time passes, things change. Many things changed for my friends. Langa and Reki are still skating together. Miya is starting to talk with a friend he thought he lost a long time ago at school. Turns out Shadow got turned away by a crush he had for a while at the flower shop, which is sad, but he still skates through the pain. He's a champ at that! Adam seemed to have changed the most. When I and everyone else were celebrating my win against the Matador of Love at Oka's shop the day after the race, the said guy crashed the party by jumping out of a helicopter all while in his skating outfit. This won't be the last time I see him, that's for sure, but I like to try and enjoy the little things that are brought to me."
"For me, a lot of things have changed. Throughout the weeks, my dad helped me get into online schooling as a start before I go to school in person and I'm getting more lessons on learning the Japanese language. I'm not fluent in it yet, but I'm getting there. Besides skating, I found out that I have a talent for art, just like my mom. Not just art, but also writing. I guess I know where both of my talents come from."
"Speaking of skating... I still skate to this day. I like to skate alongside Cherry— my father— and Joe at 'S' as well as just hanging around with my friends. I like to make as many memories with them since I still have my childhood. There's a quote I came up with not too long ago..."
"Memories that are made can last for a huge amount of time. You just have to decide whether you want to keep them or not. For me, I want my memories to last as long as how long I skate... Infinitely..."
~~~~~~~~~~
"(Y/n). Are you ready?"
A familiar voice rings into the girl's ear just as the AI skater walks into her room. Turning around from her computer, (Y/n) sees Cherry standing there at the doorframe, who was already in his skating outfit. It was already close to midnight, which was also close to when the gates at Crazy Rock opened.
"Hey, Dad. I'm almost ready. I was just finishing up the story I was writing," (Y/n) responds with a smile, speaking the first part in Japanese and the last part in English. For a while now, the child was starting to get into story writing and was almost finished with writing her first-ever story. She wasn't going to share it with the public because she sees it as more like her diary.
"How is the story going for you?" Cherry asks as he leans against the doorframe.
"I actually think this will be the first and best ever story I wrote so far," she says as she gets up from her chair and goes to grab her new jacket from her bed.
Cherry smiles warmly at his daughter. She was acting all grown up yet not much time had passed. "That's good for you, sweetheart. I'll be waiting outside. Don't try to take too long," he tells (Y/n) before he exits the room and leaves the girl to be by herself for a moment.
(Y/n) quickly puts on her jacket and goes to grab her skateboard. But before she does, she looks back at her opened computer for a split second. She still hasn't come up with a title for her story yet. 'This is a story about my life of being a young skater. So what should I call it?' she asks herself in her head. She thinks back on the first time she became well-known in "S," seeing herself as a Phoenix with so much potential and energy in her heart as well as being given the name Phoenix...
Then it came to her. Scurrying over to her desk, she quickly types a few words in the title section:
"Sparks that Fly"
Satisfied with the name, she closes the computer, picks up her skateboard, and leaves the room after turning off the light. She runs outside, which is where her father is waiting and they both head over to "S" on Cherry's motorcycle.
Once there, (Y/n) goes to meet up with the teenagers while Cherry walks over to Joe and Shadow, who are waiting patiently for the two skaters to arrive. Reki immediately catches sight of the girl and nudges Langa's arm to get his attention.
"Hey, she's here!" he says with an excited look on his face as he points to the nine-year-old. Langa smiles at the girl. Miya ran over to hug the girl, to which she hugged him back with the same attitude as him.
"(Y/n)! You made it! And you look amazing!" the cat-boy says as he just noticed the new skate outfit (Y/n) was wearing. It was still the same look as before, except the only difference is the skirt and the jacket. The jacket really expresses more of the Phoenix side of her. (Y/n) blushes at the compliment and thanks him.
(This is just an idea of what the new skating outfit looks like. You can make it any color you want or you can change the way the outfit looks.)
To the side, Joe looks over at Cherry and asks, "You helped her with designing her new look?" From underneath the mask, the AI skater smiles as he looks over towards the group of children. "Most of it was her idea. She wanted to match with her skater name, Phoenix," he tells the six-pack skater.
Shadow also smiles while crossing his arms. "It's not bad," he says out loud.
Back with the others, Langa walks up to (Y/n). "How's it going, (Y/n)? You're not using your phone to translate anymore?" he asks her in English. The said girl shakes her head and replies in Japanese instead, at least as best as she can. "No. I'm trying to get used to speaking without it... so that I could get better at talking fluently." "It sounds like you're off to a good start," Langa then switches up the dialogue as he nods at her idea.
Reki then spoke up as he held his skateboard up with so much excitement. "Hey, why don't we do a race? It can be against all four of us and whoever wins gets to decide where we get to eat tomorrow," the redhead says with stars in his eyes.
"I'm up for it," Langa says.
"Me too!" Miya replies.
And of course, (Y/n) couldn't refuse a challenge like that. She loves to meet up with her friends outside of "S."
The sirens blared throughout the abandoned mine, indicating to everyone that a race was about to start. Reki, Langa, Miya, and (Y/n) both stand at the starting line as many people in the crowd are cheering them on. (Y/n) was excited and jumped up and down in glee before getting ready for the race. In the crowd, Cherry watches with a proud smile on his face even if his mask is concealing it. Only one thing was going through his mind as he watched his little girl in a ready position with her skateboard in hand.
'Go ahead and show them, my little spark. Spread your wings...'
Everyone watches as the traffic lights above them start the countdown...
Red...
Red...
Red...
Red...
GREEN
'...and fly.'
The End
A/n: THERE IT IS!!!!! The last chapter! I'm so glad I got this done before spring break. And I'm sorry it took so long to post this. I got so much writer's block throughout the weeks, but I got the encouragement and had to finish this off for all of you. But I also can't wait for season two and the OVA to come out! I was a little sad that this would be it for now, but I started posting a few things on my new TikTok account about this story. It'll mostly just be videos of my drawings involving (Y/n) and cosplays of my sister and me of Sk8 the Infinity. If you're interested to see, my account is @falcon_lover.
Thank you all so much for reading until the end! LOVE YOU ALL! 💖🔥
