Onboard the USS Enterprise which was Firebird, Turtle, and Mavericks typical carrier they were being debriefed before their mission by their Commander Stinger.

"Gentlemen, this is bull's-eye. The communication ship SS Layton has become disabled and has wandered into foreign territory. A rescue operation is to begin within the hour. Your mission is to give air support to that rescue. There are MiGs in the area, and tensions are high. If you witness a hostile act, you will return fire. Those MiGs carry the Exocet anti-ship missile. They can fire that missile from 100 miles away."

He paused looking around " Everyone, this is the real thing. This is what you've been trained for. You are America's best. Make us proud."

"Ice."

"Yes, sir."

"Hollywood."

"Yes, sir."

"Sector two."

"Firebird" Said pilot nodded her head before Stinger gave her orders "You, Turtle, Maverick, and Merlin will back them up on Ready Five."

Firebird nodded "Yes, sir."

"Rise!"

Iceman watched his girlfriend leave the room with Turtle before he approached the commander "Excuse me, sir."

"Yes." Stinger looked at the pilot

Iceman took a deep breath not wanting to say what he was about to say. But his girls safety was on the line, and he needed her safe because he hadnt had the chance to ask the question he planned on asking after they graduated. "This is not personal, but with regard to Maverick, is he the best backup that.."

Maverick froze where he was, glaring at the Icemans back as Stinger said "I know what's on your mind, Kazansky, just get on it."

Iceman frowned but nodded before heading out, if things went as planned neither Firebird nor Maverick would see the air today. But when do things ever go according to plan?

Firebird and Turtle loaded onto their plane and watched as Iceman and Hollywood took off. Firebirds eyes then went to where Maverick was checking his plane over, Turtle noticed and asked "Is he going to be okay Fire?"

Firebird shrugged "That's up to him, he has to come to peace otherwise he'll never right again."

With that the co-pilots sat in silence waiting and listening, finally voices came over the com

"Voodoo one, you've got a pair of bogies, 12 o'clock, 15 miles."

"Voodoo one, Voodoo one, 090 radar contact 15 miles."

"They're doing 500 knots."

"Roger, that's your bogey."

"Got them dead ahead, 15 miles, air speed is 600 knots."

"Bogies' air speed, 650. We're a little close together."

"Let's take a wider split."

Hollywood's voice came through and Firebird rolled her eyes at his innuendo, but Icemans voice took over

"Okay, Wood, I'm taking the lead. Let's identify them."

"Roger, Ice, you got the lead."

Firebird bit her lip muttering "You got this baby."

Suddenly Sliders voice cut through the comm with urgency "Ice, we got a problem here. Now I'm breaking out four aircraft on the radar. Not one pair, two pair. Repeat, four bogies."

"Wood, we've got four bogies."

"Wrong ! Make that five! There's five, sir."

"Oh, shit!"Hollywood called "He's got a radar lock on us!"

"Get out of there, Hollywood ! Get out of there!" Ice yelled

"Break left!"

"I'm hit! I'm hit! We're coming apart! I can't control it! Hold on !"

"Zero for twenty! We're going down!"

"Wood's been hit! Wood's been hit! Shit! Wood's been hit!"

Firebird slammed her hand down on the dash in frustration, she could hear the panic in Icemans voice but there was nothing she could until she was given orders.

The voice of Stinger was finally heard "Launch Firebird and Maverick on Alert Five."

"I'm coming Ice.." Firebird muttered too low for the com to pick it up, then she and Maverick took off.

"Iceman what is your position?"

"090 at 180 miIes."

Firebird tuned them out quietly whispering to herself, the same thing her father would whisper when he taught her to fly.. The same thing his father whispered when he taught him

"I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed."

Firebird hand's that had been shaking began to stop "I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet."

Icemans voice came through the comm "I'm going after them. I'm bringing it around to the left."

Firebird bit her lip before she continued muttering her hands now completely steady on the controls "For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me."

"He's firing ! Break right"

"Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me."

"We'll be there in 30 seconds." Maverick called and Firebird muttered the last part of her mantra "They cried, but there was none to save them."

"Will you two move your asses and get up here?!" Iceman screamed "I'm engaged with five! Repeat five! I'm in deep shit!"

"Language!" Firebird called before speak in with an obvious smirk "and patience is a virtue Ice."

With that she flew into the fray locking onto a MIG which she quickly shot down, Turtle whooped from the backseat but this cheering quickly died down.

"Shoot! Another MiG incoming 4 o clock!"

Fire immediately began evasive maneuvers but the MiG managed to get on her tail "Mav!"

Iceman moved between Firebird and the MiG shaking the other plane from her tail. The second she was safe he screamed "Maverick, get your tail up here now!"FFiFirebird was too busy taking care of her own problems to see what happened next she only heard Turtles voice cutting through to her "5 oclock!"

Firebird did what she did best she went up putting on the breaks and cutting her engines to fall back behind the MiG.. Bullseye! Two down!

Firebird tuned back into the conversation taking place between her two wingmen just in time to hear

"I'm hit! I'm hit!"

And for just one moment Firebirds world fell away, as she imagined what her life would be like without Tom... She had only known the pilot eight weeks and yet she couldnt imagine her life without him...

She decked a hard right heading towards her crew, but she didn't see the MiG on her tail until Merlin screamed "Fire! Theres a MiG on your tail!"

Firebird fought hard, but no matter how good a pilot you are, no matter whether or not your the best, some one always knows a trick you don't... And this pilot got her in his crosshairs and fired..

Iceman felt empty, he didnt have time to look and see if Firebird and Turtle had escaped, but he knew no matter what had just happened he and Maverick were going to finish this....

They landed on the carrier not long after and the four men exited their planes. Iceman looked around he saw Hollywood and Wolfman, but he couldnt find Firebird and Turtle.. Until he heard voices yelling over the crowd

"Will you shut up Turtle?"

"No, I will not! I am telling you I will gangrene and die if I am not seen by a hot nurse immediately!"

Iceman turned and smiled when he saw his girl glaring at her best friend who was holding his bleeding arm, she turned her head his direction and gave a smile to match his own. He ran forward pulling her into his arms "I thought I had lost you!"

Firebird laughed "You aint getting rid of me that easy handsome."

Iceman pulled back and reached up to tuck some hair behind her ear "Good, I never want to get rid of you!"

Behind them the crowd erupted in cheers and Firebird looked back and rolled her eyes "Figures, he would get all the credit."

"And the chicks." Turtle groused making Iceman smirked "Not all of them."

Firebird grinned looking up lovingly at her boyfriend "No, not all of them."

Iceman smiled before wrapping his arm arounder her shoulder and moving in Mavericks direction.

"You!" Maverick froze and looked to Iceman who glared for a second "You are still dangerous." A grin crossed his face and he took his arm from Firebirds shoulders "You can be my wingman anytime."

Maverick smirked "Bullshit. You can be mine."

Firebird smiled fondly as the two hugged and Turtle muttered "Oh great they're friends now.. You know what this means right?"

"We all get a happy ending?"

"Nope, it means that idiots is invited to Christmas at your house, and all the little kids birthdays."

Firebird looked to her friend and raised an eyebrow "You say that like its a bad thing."

Turtle rolled his eyes "Duh, I'm supposed to be the cool uncle."

Firebird laughed and looks back towards her boyfriend who had turned from Maverick to face her. He moved forward and knelt down making Gemma gasp and the surrounding crowd go silent "Tom?"

Iceman looked up at her "Gemma, I know this is fast, and we've only known each other a short time... But, I love you, I know I love you.. And when I heard you go down today it solidified a decision i had already made.. So Gemma Magnolia Ross, will you be my forever wingman?"

Gemma threw herself into Icemans arm's kissing him fiercely while the crowd around them cheered...

Iceman and Firebird were not married immediately, they had an almost two year engagement. During this time Gemma took a position teaching at Top gun alongside Maverick. Mav didnt last very long but Gemma stayed on for about five years.

By the time she and Iceman got married both of them had ranked up to Lieutenant Commander. The wedding was the happiest day of their lives, and after waiting for two years their night was magical.

Barely three months after they were married Firebird got sick, throwing up every morning

"You should go to the doctor." Iceman called to his wife as she threw up in the bathroom, she wouldnt allow him in.. Something about not wanting anyone to see her looking weak.

Gemma finally jerked open the door and glared at her husband "Is that what you think?"

Tom sighed, Gemma had been really touchy for the last month and he wasnt sure how to deal with it. "Gem. I'm just worried."

Gemma snorted and stomped past him "Yeah, so worried that your about to get on a ship and leave me for six months."

Tom frowned "Gem, you know as well as I do that I cant refuse orders, why are you being like this?"

Gemma raised an eyebrow "Like what?"

"Your acting crazy." Iceman wasnt someone who feared most things, but when his wife turned the look in her eyes made him take a step back.

Gemma gave a cold laugh "Oh, I'm crazy am I? Well guess what Iceman, maybe I am crazy after all I married you didnt I!"

Tom felt tears in his eyes and he saw Gemma realize what she had just said "Tom."

He raised a hand and shook his head turning he grabbed his hat and walked out the door, and Gemma waited until she heard his engine start, to break down crying wondering why she had just said that.

The ship had left port by the time Slider found his co-pilot, Iceman was on his bunk staring at a picture with a mopey expression, Slider raised an eyebrow

"Hey man, you've been on cloud nine for 3 months whats got you down in the dumps?"

Iceman shook his head "I had a fight with Gemma... Its nothing."

Slider shrugged "I mean makes sense I guess, she's pregnant right?"

Ice froze and turned to Slider "What?"

Slider frowned then laughed "Oh, I forgot you dont have siblings, man you've been telling me she's throwing up for the last month... She was eating weird things the other night when we all had dinner together, remember you said she hates shrimp. Those are all signs that the girl is pregnant."

Iceman stood up with a panicked expression "You think she knows?"

Slider raised an eyebrow "I doubt it."

Iceman groaned, he had just left his wife at home alone angry at him and pregnant... She was really going to hate him when he got back.

Gemma stared at the doctor in disbelief "I'm pregnant?"

He nodded "Congratulations."

Gemma drove home where she grabbed the picture of her and Icemans wedding day and stared at it. Then she grabbed the phone and made a call

"Hey, Carol.. I need your help."

For the next six months Gemma had Carol and when her mother found out she and Thomas came to help her. Turtle was there for his co-pilot as much as he could be, but Turtle was now engaged to a girl he had met at an officers dinner.

Iceman tried to write a million times but found that mothing he could say was enough. And so six months later he came home, he entered his house to find little Bradley Bradshaw.

"Hey Bradley."

Bradley ran up with a big grin "Hey Mr.Iceman."

Iceman smiled and knelt down "Do you know where Miss Firebird is?"

Bradley nodded "She's outside with momma."

Iceman stood rubbing the kids head affectionately "Thanks buddy."

He headed outside and froze when he saw his wife, she was even more beautiful then he remembered. Her stomach swollen with their child, a smile on her face as she spoke to Carol.. He took a step forward and stepped on a branch making it snap, Gemma's head shot in his direction...

For a moment they just stared at each other, then she stood and ran (waddled) towards him, Tom opened his arms only to instead be greeted by a slap

"You dont write me for six months! Do you know how worried I was!"

Tom looked down "I'm sorry."

Carol stood and walked inside while the two hot headed pilots worked it out.

Gemma shook her head "No, I'm sorry.. I didn't mean what I said, it was all the hormones and I was upset.. And.."

Tom reached up placing his hands on her face "Hey, no, no, I shouldnt have left before we had sorted everything out.. I love you Gemma."

Gemma smiled then frowned "Hey, how come you dont seem surprised that you came back to a whale?"

Tom laughed "Slider had already figured it out before we even left, he knew when we had dinner that night and you ate shrimp."

Gemma grinned "Actually, shrimp sounds really good right now."

Iceman laughed pulling his wife close so he could kiss her within an inch of her life. Suddenly Gemma gasped pulling back to place her hands over her stomach

"Whats wrong!" Tom reached out to grab her and gasped as he noticed water spilling out from between her legs "CAROL!" He screamed and Gemma finally looked up gasping "The baby wants to meet you apparently."

Carol ran out and took over yelling at Tom "Go to your room, theres a bag in the closet grab that and grab Bradley... I'll get her to the car."

Tom frowned "Maybe I should stay with her..." The look Carol gave him could have frozen Mt.Vesuvius in its tracks and Gemma laughed weakly "Just listen to her Iceman."

What took place over the next several hours was a blur to the Iceman, all he remembered was his wife's screams of pain. He was pretty sure he could feel the bones breaking in his hands as she squeezed... There were times where she told him how much she hated him and that she was never letting him touch her again.

Thankfully her mother entered the room telling him that Gemma meant nothing she said right now... And it seemed to be true because the pain would withdraw for a few minutes and Gemma would apologize.

After what felt like years a cry was heard and the doctor lifted a child up

"Congratulations, its a boy."

They handed the child to Gemma and both she and Tom stared at the little boy in awe, he was beautiful..

After the doctors and nurses left the room Gemma handed their son to Tom who was stillstaring at his child "How did I help you make someone this amazing?"

Gemma smiled tiredly "Well honey when two people love each other."

Iceman rolled his eyes fondly before looking back down, Gemma watched the two of them with a smile before she said "What should we name him?"

Tom frowned thinking for a second "I guess Jet is too obvious?"

Gemma laughed and nodded she thought about it for a second before she said "Garrison? Its my dads middle name. And then we could make Tom his middle name."

Tom considered it for a second before he grinned "Garrison Tom Kazansky, yeah, that sounds really nice."

And so Garrison Thomas Kazansky entered the world, less then two years later his sisters entered the world with a bang of their own.

Gemma was still teaching at TopGun, and when she found out she was pregnant with twins she was amazed.

The twins were born both as blond headed as their parents and as different as could be. Kailani was the older twin, she was quiet rarely making a noise, and as she grew older she was the calm one, much like her father.

Avia was loud, as a baby her parents had been at their wits end trying to calm her down when she screamed. As she grew older she was the one who rushed onto things, she was moody and did her best to make sure people knew she was her own person.

Gemma knew where her daughter got her temper, it had come directly from her mother. Gemma had been the same as a teenager, it had taken the navy to calm her down.

The three children were happy kids, they grew up alongside Turtles children, (Carol had moved back to her childhood home so they rarely saw her). As the years passed it became apparent that Garrison would not be following in the footsteps of this parents. Ever since childhood the boy could hardly stand a roller coaster without getting sick much less a fighter jet. Instead he entered law school, graduating top of his class from Harvard and joining the Navy JAG.

The girls on the other hand loved to fly, from the moment their mother and father first took them up in a plane they knew exactly what they wanted in life. The same year they entered the Naval Academy their parents both hit the rank of Admiral.

By the time they had graduated their father was placed as Commander of the Pacific fleet their mother working to retire but the Navy wouldnt allow it.

Then disaster struck their lives, Tom "Iceman" Kazansky was diagnosed with throat cancer, for a while it didnt seem like he wouldn't make it. But like he had fought so many years before to stay alive when facing impossible odds, he did the same now.

He survived but he knew that he was now living on borrowed time, because the doctor told him the odds were that the cancer would come back.

"No matter what happens you have to promise me that you will not give up." He told Gemma "You have to keep fighting Gem."

And so Gemma stood beside her husbands side, praying, that the Good Lord would spare him just a little longer.. Because without him, Gemma didnt know how she would survive.

As for the girls they both became top pilots, they were sent to Topgun seperate years and both won. Kailani got married to a hotshot pilot and had a child, but it wasnt until they were called back to Topgun that Avia would realize there was more to life then flying.

And that is the first Top Gun movie! I really appreciate the support so far.. I plan on continuing this soon with Top Gun: Maverick and I am really excited about it!
