The plan

It was the service for Admiral Kazansky. River was devastated by his passing, he was a really good friend of her mom's.

Lana's mind was on what she and Harper had to deal with last year.

Lana looked over at Maverick. She closed her eyes as she saw the pained look on him. He was really close with Iceman.

Maverick was grounded by Admiral Simpson and Penny convinced him not to give up so easily.

"So what's the plan?" Penny asked. Maverick then thought of both Lana and Harper. "The Sommer sisters." Maverick said. "Harper is seventeen?" Penny questioned. "But she knows what she's doing, Cyclone and Warlock just recommend her as well, she has flown before." Maverick said. "But knowing Harper she'll do it." Penny said.

"Lana will go through the course while Harper will get a sight on the target." Maverick said. "Question is, will Lana allow Harper to do this?" Penny questioned. "We can hope." Maverick said.

Lana sat at the table with Harper. "Your mind was else where today." Harper said. Lana looked up at Harper. "It was..." Lana said. "It was mom, wasn't it?" Harper questioned and Lana nodded.

"Losing her was like a nightmare... for the both of us. It made me scared because I knew you are my responsible then I thought so many wrongs things. Am I going to do a bad job? Am I going to be overprotective? Like some many thoughts came to mind that day." Lana explained.

"Even thought I acted dramatic when it comes to you being protective, you been doing a good job Lana, I'm alive am I?" Harper questioned. Lana looked over at her sister, "Yes." Lana said.

"Then you are doing a good job." Harper said.

"Well, that means a lot little sis." Lana said as Harper looked at her and smiled.

Then the door knocked, the two sisters looked at each other. "Was you expecting anyone this evening?" Harper said. "No, everyone is settled in for the night, we decided that was best after Admiral Iceman's funeral." Lana said as she got up from the chair and headed to the front door.

She opened it to find Maverick standing there. "Maverick, what brings you by?" Lana questioned as Harper looked confused. "Well I need to talk to you and your sister." Maverick said. Harper gulped.

"Of course, can we offer you something." Lana asked but Harper went ahead and got him a glass of water. The three of them sat down. "Thank you Harper." Maverick said to her and she nodded.

"So How are you doing?" Lana asked. "Not good, I was just ground by Admiral Simpson." Maverick responded and both of the girls eyes widen.

"With the mission not that far away." Lana said. Maverick was silent. "This can't be happening, Lana, He's going to change things that Maverick taught you guys... meaning most likely you won't come home." Harper said as she began to panic.

"Harper just calm down alright, Maverick there has to be something." Lana said.

"Well there is something, I do have an idea." Maverick said.

"Oh no, you know Chaos is about to hit when Maverick has an idea." Harper said. "Harper Lynn!" Lana said as Harper threw up her hands. "Maverick, what is that idea." Lana said.

"You and Harper run the course." Maverick said. Both of the sisters looked at each other with wide eyes. "I knew Maverick dangerous and chaotic but this is the icing off the cake." Harper said.

"You mean the course you have been teaching us?" Lana questioned and Maverick nodded. "Why do you need Harper?" Lana asked. "She can be your RIO, she does have experience with flying." Maverick said and Harper got excited.

"No, I can do this by myself." Lana said. Harper scoffed. "Come on Lana!" Harper exclaimed. "Flying can be dangerous." Lana said. "But if I am going to Top Gun, I will be doing whole lot of flying Lana." Harper argued. "But if you do this with me, Admiral Simpson... he'll find a way for you to get decline for Top Gun, I don't want that for you." Lana said.

"If I want my sister to survive this mission, that's a risk I am going to take... Lana, like it or not, I am doing this with you... end of story.... you have to trust me... please?" Harper questioned. Lana looked over at Maverick.

"You know, you are good sister Lana but trusting your little sister can make that bond between you but stronger." Maverick suggested. Lana looked back at her little sister. "Alright, but listen to me when we do this." Lana said sternly to her little sister. Harper nodded.

"So this is happening tomorrow I presume?" Lana asked and Maverick nodded.

"Wait wait... I don't have a call sign, I can't go up in there air say Harper here, that's boring, like where is the excitement in River and Harper." Harper said. Lana and Maverick chuckled.

"Lightning." They both called out. Harper rose a brow at them both.

"Lightning?" Harper questioned and they nodded.

"It fits you because not only your spirit but your attitude." Lana said.

"River and Lightning, now there's the pizzazz in that." Harper said and Both Maverick and Lana chuckled.

"Don't worry, I'll have you a helmet ready, the plane will be ready as well." Maverick said as he got up.

"I hope this works." Lana said.

"Me too, River, Me too." Maverick said as he approached the front door.

"Get a good night rest, good luck tomorrow." Maverick said and they both nodded. Maverick left and Lana looked at her little sister. Harper smiled then shock hit her face.

"Holy shit, I am flying with my older sister tomorrow."
