Night time was quickly upon us and we were bolting down the hill with wargs not far behind. I tried to run through the pain and it physically hurt to breathe due to the burning sensation in my chest. My legs were extremely weak, I couldn't run any longer. The wargs had caught up to us and now we were trying to fight them off. We ran further only to reach a cliff. Great!
"What do we do now?" My heart was pounding a thousand miles in my chest. "Up into the trees! All of you! Come on, climb!" Gandalf ushered us to the trees. We all climbed up into the trees. Everyone was swinging onto beaches and hoisting other dwarves up, it seemed impossible to climb up a tree but even with fatigued muscles I managed to claw myself up the trunk and onto a higher branch.
I was close to climbing onto the same thick, branch as Fili and Kili until I made the awful mistake of looking down to see the wargs jumping up into the tree and barking it's jaws up at us, they couldn't reach me but my fear consumed me. "(Y/N)!" I could hear Fili calling out from above me, I tore my eyes from the wargs and up to Fili on the branch closer to me, reaching out his hand for me.
"Grab my hand." He reached down a bit further so I could stretch my arm and wrap my hand around before he hoisted me onto the branch with him and Kili. We all turned to look ahead to see a large, white Orc with scars all over his body and a blade in his arm. "Azog." I could hear Thorin from the tree next to us.
It's him. The orc who sliced the head off of the king and scarred Thorin, changing him for all eternity. He fought against Azog with only a sword and a clump of wood as a shield. The story was incredible, as traumatic of an event it was, it was an opening to a fresh story and the rise of a man these dwarves could call king.
Azog said something, possibly in orcish, I could not understand but whatever he said Thorin didn't like. A new wave of the wargs came charging as us and began climbing up the trees, clawing into the bark of the three trees we were spread out among. We screamed as the wargs were jumping up and chomping down on the tree.
Then all of a sudden the trees began coming out from the roots and fell in a domino line. It seemed like something out a movie as we jumped from tree to tree until we were all on the last tree on the edge. It wasn't looking to good for us. I was frantically looking around at the wargs below us. If they manage to knock over this tree we fall over the cliff and die.
From above me I saw a small ball of fire soar through the air and down to the wargs below, scorching their nose forcing them to back off. Gandalf, from above me, was throwing pinecones which were on fire down to the wargs which made them back away. Gandalf threw us all down a pinecone, as the burning wood dropped into my hands I juggled with it before pulling back my arm and threw it down which was close to hitting a warg.
From all of us throwing down small balls of fire onto the grass and dirt, a wall of fire had formed acting as a border, keeping the wargs on the other side so they couldn't touch us. We all began cheering, thinking the worst was over until we could all feel the roots below us start ripping at the tree began falling. We were hanging on by only a few roots which weren't going to hold on for very long.
"(Y/N)!" The scream of Kilis voice make my stomach drop as I spun my head and saw Kili barely holding onto a branch with his legs not on anything. He grunted when he tried to pull himself up by his arms, but he couldn't. As the tree was falling Fili fell onto another branch below us so now there was a huge gap between me and Kili on the end, holding on for dear life.
"Kili! Hold on!" I held a hand up as I steadied myself onto the branch on my hands and knees, the horrifying drop below us churned my stomach but my head was set on getting to Kili. I carefully began crawling along the branch, the end on either sides of my hands. I couldn't help as a tear blurred my eye. I can't do this.
"(Y/N)!" He screamed my name again as he was slipping, I was wasting time. "I'm coming!" I began to pick up the pace of my crawling until I finally reached him, I sat up and squeezed my thighs around the branch as my hands reached out for him. "I'm here, Kili," I inhaled a shaking my breath before sort of wrapping my arms around him, it was enough support for him to pull himself up a bit to hoist a leg over "Pull yourself up."
It was almost like he hadn't been listening to me because he looked up into my eyes, like he was lost in them. The look in his eyes was something that I could not describe but whatever was made my heart flutter. His mouth fell open slightly, time felt like it had stopped. His eyes looked deep into mine, a way he never has before. The fire gave Kili an orange tint to his face and I could see the drops of the sweat forming on his face from the heat.
It was impossible to look away from the pair of eyes that contain so many emotions in one gaze but he was still hanging off a tree by the strength of his arms. "Here, if I grab onto your coat you can swing your leg up and climb back on." I pulled him up by his coat, and with a grunt he swung his leg and I pulled him onto the branch.
Once he was finally safe he looked at me again with that same look. "Kili." I whispered. "(Y/N)." He pushed a bit of hair off my face. "Kili...i'm scared." Tears blurred my vision and threatened to fall. Kili looked sad and brought me into his chest whilst we were sitting on the branch. He didn't deny it. We're going to die. I tired my best to hold back the tears of terror but it was pretty damn hard. I'm not ready to die.
"Thorin!" I heard someone yell. I turned around to see Thorin on the floor infornt of Azog. "Oh no." I whispered to myself. The only thing we could do was watch Thorin fight Azog. "No!" Everyone screamed when Azog swung at Thorin in the face with his mace. Thorin let out a terrible scream as the warg held Thorin in its jaw, the pressure built in its jaws making Thorin scream again. His scream of pain made the tears from my face when I realized we are all going to die.
This is it. After everything we have been through, everything I didn't get to complete in life, it's all slipping away. Thorin was thrown around in the wargs mouth like a toy before he was flown onto a rock with a loud thump. However, my panic spiked when I saw Bilbo at the corner of my eye pull out his sword and began walk down the tree which was now laying flat.. "Father! No!"
I tried to stop him but he didn't hear me. I tried to run after him but Kili held me back, right against his chest. "Kili! Let go of me, he's gonna get himself killed!" I tried to tug myself away from him but he had held me too tight. "You will get yourself killed if you go." He pleaded me not to go but I couldn't watch Bilbo fight on his own. He can't even make himself a cup of tea without burning himself let alone fight someone like Azog.
I could only watch in horror when Bilbo threw himself into the path of Azog and other orcs on wargs who were lowly growling, licking their lips practically with a smirk on their face. He swung his sword whilst Azog stared him down like he was some sort of weasel. It was impossible but to watch...so i'm going to help him.
"I'm going." I whispered to myself quiet enough to make Kili question me, slightly releasing his grip around me which allowed me to tug myself out and run off the branch and down the trunk with my sword held above my head as I let out a loud battle cry. If i'm going to die then I will die knowing I tried.
I sprinted straight to Bilbos side and held out my sword, gulping when I realized how huge they were compared to us. "(Y/N)!" Bilbo yelled "What are you doing?" "I'm going down with a fight." I adjusted my grip on my sword before an orc without a warg came running at me. Just as he brought up his sword I jumped out the way with only a millisecond to spare and as I did I spun on my heel and sliced the back of its knee.
When it fell down to the floor with its head facing down, I came up behind it and dug my sword into it back, the feeling of it making me cringe hard. But he was dead. "Go!" I heard the dwarves behind me yell, I thought they were talking to us down here but when I turned around I was wrong. They were running down the tree with their weapons in hand and determined faces on. I couldn't help as my smile widened. We may just have a shot at this.
We all fought back and fought for our lives. Many times I was thrown onto the floor but I only came back up. I was fighting a one-on-one until a huge falcon came out of literally nowhere, and began soaring down towards us. I gasped before I covered my head before diving to the floor as the falcon picked up the warg in its talons and threw it over the edge. I looked up to see many falcons throwing our enemies over the cliff. They were helping us.
I watched in amazement when a falcon, with its wings, fanned the fire walls and into wargs which pushed them away from us, expanding the border with them on the other side. We all watched as a falcon picked Thorin up in its claws and began to fly off. I saw as the falcons began picking up the dwarves and flying away with them to safety so when I saw one coming towards Kili I saw the window to freedom and ran over to him.
I made it just in time before Kili and I were picked up in the claws of a falcon but my heart stopped when instead of flying away...we were thrown over the cliff. We screamed as we fell as the ground came closer and closer to us and i'm sure I saw my life flash before my eyes just when another falcon flew across and caught us on its back and began flying us away from Azog and the remaining wargs. We were safe.

It was now sunrise and we were still riding on the flacons backs who are the most incredible creatures ever, their intelligence was beyond all animals, they were giant and the softness of their coat of feathers was indescribable. "It's beautiful isn't it?" Kili asked sat behind me. "It truly is." I was taken back by the beauty of the land below us and the golden colours of the sky and the valleys below. "I can't believe we made it out alive, I thought our fate was decided." "Our fate is decided, it's just not what you thought." I turned my head back over my shoulder at him and smiled at him. We did it.
Our falcon was the last out of them all so we were the last the land. Gandalf has mumbled something under his breath with a hand over Thorins face which woke Thorin. "The halfling." Thorin shot up off the ground with the help of Dwalin and Fili. "Yes, the hobbit is okay." Thorin stood up and he was furious. Kili helped me off the falcon and we walked over to the company. "You." Thorin stood in-front of Bilbo who began playing with his dungarees, showing his anxiety. "What were you doing? You nearly got yourself killed."
Bilbo gulped when Thorin approached him. "Did I not say that you would be a burden? That you would not survive in the wild?" Oh no. Kili and I were at the back of the crowd, far from everyone with the enchanted sky behind us, waiting to see what Thorin was going to do.
"I have never been so wrong in all my life." Thorin's smile widened from ear to ear as his face lit up and embraced Bilbo with a hug. The moment was magical, Bilbo finally looked like he belonged and for the first time in a while, he was truly happy. The dwarves cheered in victory.
My hand snapped down to Kili's hand which had snaked around my waist. "We did it." He beamed. I smiled and angled my head to Kili. "Your right, we did it." I was completely unprepared when Kili lifted my chin up and placed a kiss on my lips. My stomach fluttered as I grabbed his face as I kissed him back. By my waist he pulled me toward him, holding me up as my legs weakened under his touch. His lips were soft and gentle on mine. The moment was perfect.
He pulled away and looked deep into my eyes. "I have waited so long for this moment, (Y/N). You have no idea." I could feel myself blushing hard, I couldn't wipe the beaming smile off my face. But why should I? We have finally made it. I brought my hand down from his cheek. Once I finally found words I finally spoke.
"From the moment I left the Shire I knew this is a journey i'll always remember."
